You give bouquets to show the depth of your love, but then they wither within a week's time. With these fun and colorful projects, the blooms—and your sweet gesture—could last a lifetime.
When you don't have a fresh bouquet, make your own beautiful blooms using crepe or tissue paper. They don't need watering, thrive even without sunlight, and never wilt. In other words, they're an easy way to ensure you can enjoy spring all year long.
With a few snips and folds and a bit of floral tape, paper can be transformed into exuberant flowers with real staying power. (Crepe paper—more durable and textured—can also be fashioned into decorative fruit and fauna .) The ideas that follow were envisioned for a party, but you don't need a special occasion to make them. As decorations, crepe paper flowers are vibrant and lovely—and they rebound well from embraces. They can be made to match the style and palette of a party in any season, even if that means pink sunflowers in January. Regardless of which type of flowers you'll make, you can practice with scraps of crepe paper in order to master several styles. Follow one of our basic techniques for paper flower-making or learn how to make a particular species of flower for a spectacular gift, centerpiece, table place setting, party favor, or decoration.
Flower for flower, faux floral arrangements are less expensive than those made with live blooms, plus they'll last for decades—not just days—if properly preserved. These projects were inspired by nature , although curly petaled and cone-shaped flowers are decidedly otherworldly. You can mix and match shapes and colors to create, say, pink daffodils or green warblers, or render your crafts to mimic Mother Nature's work. Either way, the finished pieces promise to be memorable .
Paper Daffodils
A triangular vase displays welcoming crepe-paper flowers in shades of yellow. Painted, striped petals and mottled-crepe leaves give each flower a layered look, as well as a wild personality. To add these details to the crepe paper, use a thin brush and a craft sponge.

They're great for decorating wrapped presents or for use in home décor.

We placed bulbs in votive candleholders with enough water to cover the roots, then added paper blooms and a vellum seat assignment to each one. Download our templates, and print onto card stock; then cut out with scissors to create patterns. For each tulip, trace and cut petals onto pink cover stock or heavy paper, glue an 18-inch length of 16-gauge green cloth-wrapped floral wire for a stem, and slip into the leaves of a potted tulip bulb.
Shop Now: Recollections Pink Buttons Card Stock Paper, 8.5" x 11", $6, michaels.com ; Panacea 16-Gauge Cloth-Covered Stem Wire, $5.94 for 8, amazon.com ; Pottery Barn Modern Glass Votive Holders, $12 each, potterybarn.com .
Watercolor Paper Roses
A few strokes of watercolor paint transform basic coffee filters into beautiful paper roses. All you need is a set of watercolor paints, floral wire and tape, a bamboo skewer, and a box of disposable cone coffee filters (eight filters will make one full bloom rose).
Scented Paper Flowers
Just because your flowers are made out of paper doesn't mean that they can't smell like the real thing. A little bit of fragrance oil goes a long way with these faux blooms to give them a little something extra. Cut a 9-inch piece from the crepe paper streamer and fringe it with scissors. Dab a single cotton ball with a small amount of fragrance oil, and wrap it as the stamen with paper.
Shop Now: Revive Lavender Certified Essential Oil, $13, revive-eo.com .
Splattered Tissue Paper Flowers
Spritzing these paper flowers with a bit of paint makes for a splattered look that mimics the random, unique color patterns on true blooms. First, assemble a few tissue paper flowers. Then, fill a spray bottle with water and a few drops of paint, and spray the paper with one color at a time.
Shop Now: Celebrate It White Tissue Paper, $8.99, michaels.com ; ArtMinds Spray Bottle, 99¢, michaels.com .
Crepe-Paper Roses
Add a pop of color to the room with a bouquet of these larger-than-life crepe-paper roses that will never wilt. They're made with double-sided crepe paper, floral wire and tape, and an easy-to-use template.
Hanging Paper Flowers
With a few snips and folds, and a little imagination, you can turn humble paper bags into party-perfect decorations. For this project, you'll need six gusseted bags (same size and color) for each flower.

How I Started My Paper Flower Business – Interview

How to start a paper flower business - FancyBloom's story
I was pleased to be interviewed by Voyage Magazine about my paper flower business story.
This is an online magazine featuring creatives, artists, professionals, and local entrepreneurs, and their inspiring stories.
They interviewed me for their The Trailblazers series about my journey as an artist and the FancyBloom’s story.
As part of the interview, I also shared my advices for young women who are just starting their creative business.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Oksana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started with a photo of the paper flower wall on the Internet that I stumbled upon in 2016. Back then, large paper flowers were just gaining momentum in the United States. I instantly fell in love with them and started to make my first flowers.
I remember how I searched Google and YouTube trying to find masterclasses or online courses about large paper flowers, but there was very little information at that time.
Now I am glad that this was so, because I started to design my own flowers from the very beginning. And today I get the biggest buzz when I come up with a new flower, this process is just my favorite!

So after a few months, when I gained a little experience, I opened my Etsy store and started an Instagram account @fancybloom_ .
Then later I began making giant standing paper peonies as well as other giant standing flowers. And this is how FancyBloom was started.

After a couple of years of successful work, I’ve reached an important milestone in my paper flower business where I had to make a decision about further growth, development and optimization, as there were more and more orders, that I could no longer fulfill on my own.
4 Main ways to build and grow a paper flower business
In general, if you make paper flowers, you have several options on how to build and grow your business:
- You can be a decorator for various events , exhibitions, shows - then you will most likely need a team of people, as well as a studio or warehouse to store all the decor.
- Hire of flower walls and standing giant flowers is also very popular. You can make 2-3 paper flower walls and several giant flower stands and rent them out. Most likely you'll also need helpers and a storage room.
- Another way is to focus on your Etsy store or grow your own online shop to sell and ship paper flower sets all over the country and even the world.
- If you have a passion for creating new flowers, new shapes, and something unique, you can sell your templates or tutorials online as well as host live workshops if you like to teach.
First, I was selling my flowers mainly through Instagram and Etsy. But over time, I started to notice that most of my Instagram audience was not my potential clients, but they were the same paper flower artists like me, who keep asking me to teach them to make my flowers.
On the other side, my clients from Etsy more and more often were asking me to decorate large events and there was a high demand for rentals as well.
And I had to make a choice:
- Either I start to hire people, rent the warehouse and work on big projects by producing lots of flowers and decor,
- I’m ready to share my knowledge, techniques, and ideas with other people and gradually redirect the focus of my paper flower business towards content creation and online education.

It was not an easy decision for me, I felt like I was leaving money on the table, refusing big projects. But eventually I realized that in order for me to be a happy person, I need to be in a free, calm, and creative mode .
I love to scrupulously design new flowers, templates, tutorials, and techniques, and this is what I enjoy the most.
In 2020 I made my first online course, Giant Peony from FancyBloom, also I launched this website fancybloom.net where you can find free and helpful resources as well as my flower templates shop .
I have a lot of plans – I want to share my knowledge, I want to make new tutorials and build the best paper flower community. And I’ll be so delighted if my story inspires someone to start their own craft or paper flower business.
It may not be easy at first, but if you sincerely love what you do, all your efforts will pay off in full and your beautiful business can be the most rewarding adventures in your life. Just try it!
Has it been a smooth road?
No, of course, it wasn’t a smooth path. It’s always not easy to starting something from scratch.
I was struggling to find my first customers , I was afraid to voice the price and generally didn’t know how to properly price my work.
I didn’t know many things, and this is a very normal course of events!
All the knowledge and skills will come with experience.
My main advice to the young women who’re just starting their business – don’t be afraid to make mistakes and continue to act.
Step-by-step and eventually you will succeed. I believe in you, and you have to believe in yourself!
- Remember that half of the success of your business (if not more) is marketing , so train and educate yourself in this area.
- Don’t make a big bet on social media, you don’t own them. Build and grow your own website.
- Learn how to take beautiful photos and videos.
- Pay attention to Pinterest.
- Tell all your friends and relatives about what you are doing.
- Be proud of your work and never discount it, otherwise, you will burn out very quickly.
We’d love to hear more about FancyBloom.
At FancyBloom, I make paper flowers from cardstock for hanging on the wall as a composition, as well as giant stand-alone flowers from crepe paper. I also teach how to make flowers.
I designed all my flowers myself, so my templates are always unique. I also try to make all my works look very modern and as realistic as possible so that they can fit into even the most glamorous interior or event.

Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you have about the paper flower business in the comments👇, I will be happy to answer all of them!

Paper flowers are perfect for weddings, get-well-soons, birthdays, baby showers, decorations, and just a kind "thinking of you" moment for anyone in your life. They are easy and cheap to make, so you really don't have to worry about the cost or your level of skill. You don't have to make a whole bouquet either – just one flower with a card tied to it is pretty and can be that extra touch you’re looking for.
Making Petaled Paper Flowers

- For watercolor paper, you simply dip your brush in a bit of clean water, add some watercolor paint to the tips of the brush, and go over the paper. The best part about it is that it’s supposed to look slightly different in every spot, so you don’t have to worry about shading or blending.
- You can also use cardstock or construction paper, too, and it’s quicker and cheaper. You just won’t have the soft gradient of watercolor paper; however, you could choose a more vivid color with this type instead.
- Make a whole bunch. Each flower will require at least 12 squares or so. And it’s not that the 1" squares are in the middle and the 3" squares are on the outside – instead, it’s just the amount you roll them up to get them bigger and smaller. A 3" flower, for example, will be made entirely of 3" squares.
- To make your cut, place your scissors on the open side and cut it into a half-arch type of thing (that is, rounded at the top). When you open it up, you'll notice that it's now in the shape of a petal.
- And then unroll them. When you unroll them, they'll maintain a bit of the curve of the roll. Can you see how they might fit together to form a flower?
- Hold it there for a second, being careful not to get any hot glue on your fingers. You now have the very center of your flower and can start attaching petals.
- Every layer should peep out from between the layer before. In the valley where the two petals meet in one layer should be the center of the petal from the next layer. And again, with each succeeding layer, your petals should get less and less rolled up. [1] X Research source
- Once your layers reach the size and width that you want, you're done. It's as simple as that! With this technique, they look even better in groups, so don't stop now. Make a few to stick together to make their beauty (and your creativity) exponentially more remarkable.
Making Rolled Paper Roses

- For the paper, construction, watercolor, or scrapbook paper works best. Anything that's on the stiffer side and colorful will do the trick.
- It doesn't have to be perfect, uniform, or even by any means. A lopsided, wonky spiral will be just as adorable as a spiral that was meticulously drawn down to the millimeter. Just draw a spiral like your inner seven-year-old self might draw a spiral and that’ll be great.
- To roll, hold the very center to the edge of your pencil or Q-tip. then roll it up like a spool of ribbon, each length on top of the other. As your spiral starts to get bigger, you'll notice that it starts to move downward. This is how it's supposed to be.
- Your first one or two may not be perfect, but as you keep going you'll be able to figure out what will create the look you're going for. You'll also notice that as you create more, they look neater and neater.
- You could also attach a pipe cleaner or a hanger wrapped in green planter's tape to the bottom for a stem. Who doesn't love a homemade bouquet?
Making Tissue Carnations

- When you've chosen your tissue paper, place them together, lined up in a pile.

- If you're making several flowers experiment with different sizes. Just cut strips that are of various widths and it will automatically create smaller and bigger flowers.
- Leave an inch or so of tissue paper untouched at one end of the strip. This will be the part of the flower that you work with and use as your base, so you don't want it shredded.
- The strip should still include every layer of tissue paper that you started with. No need to cut one sheet at a time.
- If you don't want a masking tape bud, you can either color the masking tape or cover it with more tissue paper. You could also try leaving the floral wire exposed. With enough petals, it may blend right in.
- Once the tape is on, fluff your "petals" to give them a more flowery look. Spread them out and squish them a little to get them to sprawl out like a carnation.

- If your flower still seems like it's missing something, try wrapping a ribbon around the base. This also provides you another way to attach the flower to something without using the tape. A ribbon is much more delicate and will emphasize the cuteness of your flower.

About This Article
To make paper flowers, cut various size squares out of pieces of colorful paper or cardstock, and fold them in half. Use your scissors to round the edges of the squares into an oval petal shape. Then, unfold the squares. Next, roll the papers lengthwise to curve the petals. Glue the smallest squares in a tight circle to create the center of the flower. Continue adding petals to the outside, working in a circle. The petals should be layered and staggered so that the flower grows outward. This course is a wonderful introduction to making paper flowers. Eileen carefully walks you through each step of the way, her instructions are clear, and her creative eye teaches you to think about how to really "see" flowers to make them more realistic. I haven't started my project as I'm still waiting for my supplies to arrive, but this course has left me feeling confident to try!

5 Tips for Making Gorgeous Paper Flowers
May 14, 2018 By 12 Photography Masters filed under Paper Crafts Blog .
We’re excited to share a special guest blog post on paper flower making by instructor Lia Griffith!
Lia is the founder of LiaGriffith.com , a creative lifestyle brand offering daily inspiration for a handcrafted lifestyle. From the highest quality interior design inspiration to stunning DIY paper craft tutorials, Lia Griffith is defining, educating and growing the DIY movement around the world.
Do you love flowers but wish they would last longer than a few weeks?
I’m here to share five simple but effective tricks to making long-lasting, beautiful paper flowers. With these tips and the free downloadable paper flower lei pattern from the Lia Griffith studio, you’ll get plenty of practice making beautiful blooms.

1. Choose the right paper
One of the most important decisions you will make when you start a paper flower—making projects is which paper to choose.
Card stock is a no-no for most paper flower patterns, as it is just too stiff to create elegant shapes. I tend to favor text-weight metallic paper for my flower designs. The iridescent nature of metallic paper is perfect for adding depth to your paper flowers because of the way it reflects light.
You can also use found papers like book pages, gift wraps or magazine sheets to create interesting paper flower crafts.

2. Prepare your stash for flower making
Other than a stash of great papers, you will need very little to make stunning paper flowers.
My go-to tools are scissors, a low-temperature glue gun, floral stem wire, and floral tape. The glue gun makes assembly very quick and easy. You can use it to layer petals, secure the centers, and attach backings or floral stem wire to your flower.
Floral stem wire can be used in single stems or more to create thicker stems. Wrapping the floral stems with floral tape is the perfect way to finish your product in a clean, professional way.

3. Create a natural-looking paper flower
My top tip for creating natural-looking paper flowers is to curl the paper petals once they have been cut to size. Using a pencil, dowel, or the edge of your scissors, gently pull the paper through your fingers to curl the edges. This adds a depth and dimension that will turn your paper flowers from gorgeous to simply stunning!
Practice this technique on your chosen paper before you cut the petals — it’ll be worth it.

4. The options are endless!
Paper flowers are so versatile!
- Adding long stems to a bunch of five or six paper flowers makes a great arrangement for a vase or glass jar.
- Fold the stems in half and wrap them together in floral tape to make a pretty wedding bouquet.
- Omit the stems altogether to make pretty gift toppers or secure a pin to the back to make an attractive brooch.
- Use sewing pins to attach a number of paper flower heads to a foam wreath for your front door, or arrange them in a box frame to create a unique piece of handcrafted wall art.
- Mixing paper flowers with real greenery is also one of my favorite ways to display my projects.

5. Use a cutting machine to maximize your potential
When I first began designing paper flowers I used to cut all the pieces by hand. This was fun and satisfying, but it limited my options to a point.
When I invested in a Cricut Explore Air, the opportunities for paper-flower making (and more) were suddenly endless. Where it would have taken me hours to cut 90 petals for my paper hydrangea design, I could now cut all 90 in a few minutes. My paper flower wedding bouquets became even more intricate as I was able to incorporate paper Queen Anne’s Lace and eucalyptus foliage.
It’s not an essential tool for paper-flower making, but for intricate, beautiful, professional-looking paper flowers, there is nothing better!

Now that you know these tricks…
you can make a picture-perfect paper flower project, and we have just what you need to get started: a stunning flower lei that will brighten up any space.

Paper flowers make great decorations for weddings, baby showers, bridal showers and pretty mch every special occasion! And the best part is that the whole thing is made from nothing but paper and hot glue so they’re super affordable.

I went to Hobby Lobby and loaded up on cardstock in every color of the rainbow, literally . It takes 8 sheets of 8.5×11″ cardstock for the largest flowers shown and 3 sheets for the smallest flowers , so be sure you buy enough cardstock. Nothing’s worse than being one sheet of paper short and having to run back to the store in the middle of a project. I went when open stock paper and paper packs were all 50% off, so I feel like I scored big time.
How To Make Paper Flowers Step By Step
Making paper flowers is simple and so fun. All you need is paper, scissors and hot glue. You can use a Silhouette or Cricut machine if you have one, but cutting the petals out by hand is totally doable too. I created a video tutorial to show you exactly how to make them.

HOW TO MAKE PAPER FLOWERS BY HAND
- Free Printable Template (download below)
- Download the paper flower template below.
- Resize the petals on the computer if desired. Print.
- Cut out the flower petal templates. Trace onto cardstock and cut out with scissors. To speed up the process, you can cut through several layers of cardstock at a time.
- Glue the smallest center petals onto a cardstock circle, then repeat for the medium sized petals and repeat again for the largest petals.
For this particular display of paper flowers, I wanted a mix of big and small flowers with tropical greenery peeking out a bit, so I planned out which colors in rainbow order would be big and small, then mixed different flower shapes so there was plenty of variety.
It’s hard to tell in the pictures, but I found some really pretty pearlized paper at Hobby Lobby and used that for the lightest pink flower and the ombre aqua flower. It adds a subtle sparkle that I really love. I also bought a pack of vellum and created one entire flower from it. It basically disappears in pictures but is pretty in real life.

I’m even sharing the free paper flower templates for you to enjoy.
There are four files available. One file is for printing and cutting by hand and the other three are SVG files to use with a Silhouette or Cricut machine. The three SVG files are for easy paper roses, cabbage roses and peonies. You’ll see all four templates in the Google folder.
To get the templates, enter your email address right here:
Now go check your email and you’ll see an email from me that will have a link to all the templates.
I also purchased THESE cut files from the Silhouette Design Store. It’s what I used for the flower centers. I just added the slits to the bottom of each flower petal to make them more 3D.
This was such a fun project. Each paper flower is a miniature work of art and watching the rainbow of flowers come together was really satisfying. It will inspire me every day as I’m in my craft room creating.
I mean, how could you not be inspired when you look up and see this?!

DIY PAPER FLOWERS: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do you attach the paper flowers to the wall.
I used thumb tacks hidden under a layer of petals. If you don’t want to put holes in the walls, the velcro-like Command strips would work well. I don’t recommend using tape unless the paper flowers will only be used as a short-term decoration. Tape tends to fall off with time.
What type of paper do you use to make paper flowers? What is the best material to make paper flowers?
Cardstock. I bought it in packs at Hobby Lobby because it was cheaper per page. You can use any kind of paper, but if you use flimsy printer paper, the flowers tend to be a little bit droopy, so I prefer cardstock. It doesn’t have to be a particular weight. This pack of cardstock on Amazon would work great.
How do I download the templates?
Enter your email address in the teal colored box above. You will get an email with the link to download the templates.
What size do I cut out the petals?
Any size you want! You can adjust the sizes of any of the templates in Silhouette Studio or if you’re cutting the petals by hand, adjust the pattern on the computer before printing. You can adjust the size in software such as Paint, Photoshop, Illustrator, or PicMonkey.
As a reference, the largest flower in the photos is sized so that the largest outside petals fit ONE petal per 8.5×11″ sheet of paper. That’s a very large petal!
What size do I cut out the circle bases?
This isn’t an exact science… but as a starting point, if you’re making the largest size flower with one petal per 8.5″x11″ piece of paper, you’d need a circle that’s about 3 inches in diameter and progressively smaller circles for smaller sized flowers.
Where did you get the leaf patterns?
I purchased a cut file from Silhouette Design Store . They had a ton to choose from! If you are cutting leaves by hand, Google “jungle leaves” and print one out to use as a pattern.
I can’t open the free files. What’s wrong?
The number one reason people can’t access the files is that they are at work and their work server blocks access to Google Drive. This is especially true for school districts. Try opening the files again at home or from an unrestricted computer and see if that helps.
Aren’t these flowers a huge dust collector?
Not really. And when I notice they’re dusty, I spray them down with canned air (or blow air out of my shop vac), then vacuum the floor. Easy peasy!

This is AMAZING!!! I love it!!!!
Thank you, Megan! I love it too. It makes me ridiculously happy every time I walk in the room.
September 26, 2018
Jennifer can you tell me how I can make a large poinsettia. Would I not curl the edges? And any suggestions for natural materials to make the center would be very much appreciated!
Thank you!!!
April 5, 2017
Thanks for sharing! I've been looking for something over my windows in my craft room also!
You should definitely make some flowers. They are so happy and fun!
You chose beautiful colors! Love this idea!
Thanks Jenny! When I'm working on a craft I can just look up for color inspiration!
Wow… I'm not one to have flowery things but this looks amazing indeed! I'm inspired just looking at the picture 🙂
Thanks so much, Miriam!
So beautiful. I especially love all of the bright colors. Great job!
Hello I have a weird question for you? How many do I need to cut with the cut files on each petal to make it fuller and thicker? I hope that makes sense hah!! thank you so much for this great idea you are very very talented!!!!
Thank you Melissa! I would do 8-10 petals on each size of layer, then stack four or five layers together. Does that help?
June 13, 2017
Hello! Thank you so much for providing these cut files! Did you create other sized petals for multiple layers in Silhouette? For example, your cabbage roses look like there are more than 3 layers. Also, did you purchase the cut files from the Silhouette Store for the flower centers? Thank you again!
June 14, 2017
I did create more layers using the shapes in the cut files, depending on how large I wanted each flower to be. The largest flower shown has one petal per 8.5×11 sheet of paper… it was huge!
And yes, I did buy some of the flower centers from the Design Store. But you may already have some different shapes that would work.
Good luck making your flowers!
July 26, 2018
I went to the link you added for the center portion of the flowers but it went to all of her designs..all 23 pages. Do you know the name of the one or ones you bought. I can’t wait to add this design to my classroom.
July 29, 2018
My favorite center is this one: https://www.silhouettedesignstore.com/view-shape/122654
May 7, 2021
I have made flowers just like that but these are more detailed I will put them in y classroom!
April 6, 2017
Thanks for these files! I love making paper flowers with my Silhouette Cameo, but still have yet to make any giant flowers. (I think I just need a good excuse.) 🙂
I love making big flowers. They're so fun! I hope you get a chance to make one soon!
Hello! I am a cricut user and the cut files don't work for my machine, would you have the SVG version? Would really love to give this a try! Thank you 🙂
I tried uploading some of the files as SVG files. Did you see that there are two different file types in the Google folder linked above? It was a little tricky to get them to convert to SVG for some reason. The good news is that you can always download the printable template and just trace the shapes in your cricut software.
Thanks so much for sharing. I love these!
You're so welcome!
I am in awe.
THank you so much!
I love this!! I have downloaded the .svg files and noticed that 2 files have different sizes and the cabbage rose are all one size. For example, the cabbage rose. What size are the petals for each layer. I would hate to waste paper cutting the wrong sizes. Thank you
The cool thing about this project is that you can make them any size you want! For the very largest flower shown, I cut one petal per 8.5×11 piece of paper. Most of hte other flowers had about 4 petals per 8.5×11 paper to give you an idea of size. Just scale them so each set of petals is a bit smaller than the last, if that makes sense.
April 7, 2017
Hi there! I've been wanting to do this exact thing for so long in my girls' room but I am having a hard time finding instructions. Do you have a link or website you used to for constructing these?
Did you watch the video above? Basically you just cut out the petals, fold them together at the base where the slit is, then glue the petals onto a circle. Make a small, medium and large set, then glue them together.
April 8, 2017
Love these and want to do this in a miniature version for my daughter's American girl doll house,
That is a completely adorable idea!!! If you do really small flowers, try Googling "rolled paper flowers." They are quicker to make because it's all one piece, so no individual petals. I just don't love them when they get really big.
April 9, 2017
These are great! How did you affix the flowers to the wall?
I used push pins, but if you don't want holes in the wall, you could use those Command Strips that look like velcro.
These are beautiful. Which 3D flowers did you use from Silhouette? Thank you.
I used several different flowers from Carina Gardner. I added the slits on the bottom to help them have more shape. Without the slit on the bottom, they lay too flat. This is one of the flowers I bought: https://www.silhouettedesignstore.com/view-shape/122654
Oh thank you so much. And the larger flowers you just enlarged the pattern?
You must have the larger Silhouette machine? I just have the small one so mine would be smaller unless I cut them by hand 🙁
April 10, 2017
I actually only have the smaller Silhouette machine. The biggest flower shown is one petal per 8.5×11 sheet of paper. I resized things in Silhouette Studio.
Oh perfect then, thank you.
April 14, 2017
Hi Jennifer, gorgeous flowers! Is there are circle file available for the SIL? And how do the peony flowers go together? Thank you! 🙂
I didn't include the circle file because they're pretty simple to make on your own in Silhouette Studio. Just click on the circle tool and make three circles measuring around 2 inches, 3 inches and 3.5 inches.
All of the flowers go together in the same way… round off the petals, fold the bottom slit over on itself and secure with hot glue, then glue the petals to a circle. Repeat for 3 rounds in different sizes…
The only difference with the peonies is to roll the petals toward the center of the flower instead of away from the center, if that makes sense.
Does that help?
January 15, 2020
theres no slit for bottoms of Poenies petals on any layer…?
January 17, 2020
Hi Magen, That’s my bad. Just go ahead and add your own slits with scissors! I’ll try to update the pattern soon.
April 17, 2017
Thanks so much for the templates. Hopefully I can figure this all out. I've watched the video 3 times! 🙂
April 24, 2017
Are the leaves from the Silouette store as well?
Yes! There are a ton of options in the store.
April 27, 2017
Thank you!! Hoping to make a photo-booth for daughter's grad party and these would be perfect!
April 28, 2017
Perfect idea! That will be so cute!
Love these and can't wait to try!! My daughter has the same triangles on her wall. Can you tell me where you got the actual window treatment? It would look awesome in her space!!
It's a roman shade that I made myself from Nate Berkus fabric available at JoAnn.
Wow!Loved it! Thanks for sharing
How did you secure them to the wall?
April 29, 2017
I used push pins, but you could use the velcro style Command Strips if you don't want to make any holes in the wall.
May 6, 2017
The cabbage rose files are all the same size 15×11.5, what paper did you cut these out on?
I can't find cardstock that is bigger than 12×12, I have a 12×24 mat for the Silhouette but can't find large enough paper to cut this cabbage rose out in one piece
May 7, 2017
You should be able to adjust the size in the Design software. Just click on the images, then drag them smaller.
May 29, 2017
Muchas gracias, saludos desde Ecuador. Todo está muy lindo!
June 1, 2017
Beautiful flowers, will be making some for my classroom! Random question, where did you get the curtains?
I made the curtains with fabric from Joann. The fabric is from the Nate Berkus line and it's in the section of big rolls of home decor fabric.
These are beautiful flowers! I will be making some for an Alice in Wonderland baby shower, I don't have a hobby lobby by me so I need to order cardstock online, did these color sheets come in a book, or do you know if I can order loose sheets online?
Do you have a Michael's near you? They sell cardstock in packs for a good price.
June 27, 2017
how did you get a flower with the pedals separated and not one 2d flower
June 28, 2017
I'm not sure what you mean. Did you watch the video? Did you download the template? You cut each petal out individually, then glue them together to make a 3D flower.
July 5, 2017
wow nice i want make for my doter have any batern
July 19, 2017
This is beautiful. Is there a template to hand cut the leaves?
No, but if you Google "tropical leaves" there are a lot of images that you could print and use as a pattern.
July 23, 2017
These are gorgeous! I am making these for my classroom!
July 24, 2017
I'm going to make these for my new granddaughter's room!!! I would love to have the pattern for the largest one, the one that you said the largest petals where cut use one sheet per petal. Thank you for these patterns, I can't wait to start!
July 28, 2017
HI! I do have a silhouette and I am having trouble getting the files to open in my silhouette studio. Do you have ideas or tips on how I should go about doing this? I am new to this silhouette world and need some tips.
August 8, 2017
If you click on "3D Paper Flower Cut Files" above in this post, it will open Google Drive with the files. Then, look for the heading that says Folders. The Silhouette files are in there. The other ones that pop up are SVGs which you need the Designer Edition of Silhouette Studio to open. Hope that helps you! I'm cutting my petals now! Wish me luck! 🙂
March 6, 2018
THANK YOU!!! I drove myself crazy yesterday trying to save and open those files in my silhouette studio. I finally gave up and downloaded 2 flower templates I found elsewhere. Today I opened google and was going to just find some templates there but read your comment. It worked and now I have all the different templates! I bought one file in the silhouette store but that had the center she used so still a good thing. You rock!!!! Thanks!!!
August 16, 2017
Hi are we able to use the templates for commercial use? To create paper flowers to sell? Thanks again!
No, sorry. Personal use only.
October 25, 2017
Hi, this may be silly. But this will be my first time doing this and I just wanted to know if there are instructions?
Yep! There's a video tutorial in the post that will walk you through the steps.
July 6, 2018
I can’t see the video tutorial. Am I missing something?
The video tutorial is between the subheadings “How To Make Paper Flowers” and “Instructions for Silhouette Paper Flowers.” It’s a darker image with two black bars on either side and a triangle play button in the middle. Hopefully that helps!
November 22, 2017
I would LOVE more instructions on how to do this. I think this would be so cute in my kids toyroom but have no idea where to even start. I understand that you use flower files… but then how are you building the flowers together? I'd love a longer youtube video tutorial <3
Thanks for the feedback, Nadia. It helps me know what is most useful for my readers.
Did you watch the video in this post? It's quick, but it shows you the steps.
I DO have a more in-depth video in the works, but it probably won't be done until January because I'm so busy making holiday crafts right now.
December 8, 2017
Hello, love this, where did you get the circle template for the flower to glue it on
December 9, 2017
Any circle will do. Try tracing a CD or plate. Or make a circle using the shape tool in Silhouette Studio.
April 29, 2018
Thank you for sharing the templates for these beautiful flowers! I haven’t downloaded them yet, but wanted to meanwhile watch your video. Unfortunately, I cannot find your YouTube link. ☹️ Can you direct me?
May 4, 2018
Hey Lani, I’ve been doing some website maintenance and some of my videos disappeared. I have it embedded again in this post, so hopefully that helps.
May 5, 2018
Love this! I’m going to make some for my daughters room! I don’t have a machine so I’m going to do it all by hand but doesn’t seem that hard. Quick question: if I were to do it by hand what kind of paper should I use? Is it like card stock?
Oops never mind just found my answer in your instructions lol sorry! Thank you for this site!!
May 14, 2018
I love it all but im have the hardest time printing only the large rose! The other pages printed fine but this one isn’t! Is there anything else i can do?
May 16, 2018
I’ll have a look at it and see if I can figure it out.
May 15, 2018
How are they attached to the wall?
Thumb tacks
May 24, 2018
Hobby Lobby is selling paper flowers like this with gold trim and they’re only $4 to $12 depending on size… BUT I may just copy them now with paper I already have 😁 Thank you for sharing this!
They’ve started selling several different types of big paper flowers, which is so great for people who don’t have the time to make them.
June 4, 2018
How did you attach them to the wall?
I used push pins.
June 9, 2018
I cannot find the link to download the file. What am I missing? Haha! Thank you!
June 11, 2018
In the post there is a teal colored box with the words “Get the Printable Files” in it. Enter your email address there and it’ll send the files to your email.
June 15, 2018
Is this template still available — I clicked and confirmed per instructions from Return email and still have not received template — thank you.
I just tried the box and it worked for me. Enter your email. Then it’ll send you an email where you confirm your subscription. Then a window pops up with a link to the files. If you are on a work computer, sometimes they block access to files like this.
Them are so cool looking!! Now I wanna make some! (Even though I have a million other projects staring me in the face) 😁
July 8, 2018
Hi! I love these so much and want to make them for my little girls room! Quick question though….I’m sure they get a little dusty and I’m just wondering how you dust them?
July 9, 2018
I’ve been using canned air. Easy peasy!
I have a question… so this is super random but some girl was making these and selling them. I bought some for my daughters room… but the petals have started to uncurl and going back to being straight. So my flowers look weird and not cute anymore. What do you suggest I do to try and fix them?
Is it humid where you live? That’s the only reason I can come up with for them uncurling. You can try shaping the edges around a pencil to give them their curl back.
July 10, 2018
No it is not humid at all… but I just remembered we used her humidifier alot this winter when she was sick. That probably did it. I will try to use a pencil and hope it works! If not I will be making her some more. Thank you for your reply 🙂
July 12, 2018
Hi! I’m so excited to use your tutorial to create these beautiful flowers!! Quick question, where did you get the template for the leaves? Maybe I’m overlooking it. 🙂 Thanks so much! Truly beautiful!!
I purchased a leaf cut file from the Silhouette Design Store.
July 14, 2018
do you have templates for the leaves? I’m going to be making these by hand
July 16, 2018
I don’t, but if you google “jungle leaves” you should be able to find a leave shape you like, print it out and use it as a pattern.
July 17, 2018
Thank you so much for the paper flower files, instructions and video! This is exactly what I’ve wanted for my great granddaughter’s nursery. I’m going to go watch the video now!
You’re very welcome Lynn! I hope you have a lot of fun making them!
How do you assemble the peony flower? Is it 6 to 8 of each shape?
Did you watch the video tutorial? You put six to eight petals of each size together around a paper circle base.
August 2, 2018
Paper Flowers have always scared me but I just got a silhouette and now after reading this I’m feeling inspired to tackle something life this for my craft room this weekend. Thanks for the files and inspiration!
August 3, 2018
Hurray! I’m so happy to hear that. I love making paper flowers… they are so fun! Enjoy!
August 22, 2018
This is so beautiful and the way the different colors blend together is amazing… I will try this . Thanks
August 30, 2018
How did you use only 8 sheets of 8.5×11 sheets of paper for the largest flower if the base layer has 8 petals that are as large as the 8.5×11 sheet of paper?
August 31, 2018
Ah… you’re right! It took 8 sheets JUST for the outside layer! I’ll go in and fix that. It must have taken more like 10 or 11 sheets. Oops!
September 3, 2018
What is the width of your window? I’m planning on doing this for my classroom and my window has a span of 12 ft. This way I can kind of gauge how many more flowers I’ll need to add in.
My window is about 5 1/2 feet across.
October 3, 2018
In order to download Files, I had to download a program called Silhouette Studio. Once there, I had to select the designs and change it to a black outline (instead of red) and increase the line to 2.00pt. I also had to select ‘show print border’ and adjust my print size down to 95-97% so that it wouldn’t get cut off.
Note, the instructions are not posted with the designs so you will have to return to the website to get the exact step by step instructions.
November 4, 2018
Hi. Thanks for sharing the free templates.
Only one template has directions. Do we use the same directions for all the templates (peonies, cabbage svg)
I am so confused.
November 5, 2018
All of the flowers are made in the same way, they just have different shaped petals.
January 10, 2019
Amazing. You just solved one of my life puzzle. Thanks a bunch.🌻🌼
February 25, 2019
How do you know what sizes to cut the circle (the base) for each layer?
I just eyeballed it. Or you can lay the petals out in the shape that you want them and then measure about what size the hole is in the middle. It doesn’t have to be super precise.
April 9, 2019
Can someone email the printable template because the link to download it isn’t showing for me 🙁
April 13, 2019
Click where it says, “Download the free paper flower templates”
May 26, 2019
Can these be put on stems to use in a vase?
May 28, 2019
These flowers are flat on the back, so they wouldn’t work very well to put in a vase.
June 28, 2019
These are beautiful, which pattern goes with the light teal one that has the pointed petals- it is on the right side. I am making these to match my Steam classroom. so excited to do this 🙂
February 6, 2020
Where can the scissors be purchased that you used for the fringe (flower centerpiece)?
February 10, 2020
You can find them on Amazon or at Michaels/Hobby Lobby/Joann. They’re called fringe scissors.
March 6, 2020
Hi! How in the world do you curl the petals so that they’re smooth? I tried curling a few around a pencil (and I also tried a pen), but they wind up looking like a lot of creases instead of a nice smooth curve. 🙁
March 9, 2020
That’s weird! I’m not sure why you’re having trouble with it. Maybe try a thicker Crayola marker or something like that?
You have to curl them and then hold them for a few minutes.
May 31, 2020
Oh, what a cool idea! thank you for the templates! super
July 4, 2020
very beautiful flowers! thanks for idea
September 9, 2020
Thank you soo much
I have a question will you tell if I can make smaller ones so we can make them for mothers day.
May 10, 2021
Yes, you can make them any size!
May 29, 2022
For the center flowers, when I click on the link to the silhouette store to buy the center pieces, it comes up with lots of choices. Many…which ones did you use and what material did you make the centers with? vinyl, cardstock? Also, did you also cut a small circle as the center base for each flower?
June 1, 2022
I used Design ID 195517 for the center cutouts and I cut them out of cardstock. And yes, I cut cardstock circles for the flower bases.
February 2, 2023
I can’t wait to try this!

How to Make Paper Flowers - Create a Big Impact With This Easy Craft

How to Make Paper Flowers
These paper flowers are simple to craft but make a big impact, especially if you make giant ones! All you need to make them are a few supplies you might already have around the house.

Gather Your Supplies
- Tissue paper in whatever colors you like
- Wire - floral wire works great but isn’t necessary. I’m using 18 gauge floral wire that’s precut to stem length. If you don’t have any wire around the house, you could make these using string with the same technique and make a garland or big blooms to hang around.
Optional but helpful supplies:
- Pliers for bending wire
- Green paper

Step 1: Fold Tissue In Half
To make a giant flower:
- Take 2 sheets of tissue paper, either the same color or 2 different colors for a 2-tone bloom, and fold them in half.
- Take the 2 sheets that are now folded in half and stack them on top of each other.
- You should have 4 layers of tissue.
To make a medium sized flower:
- Fold one sheet of tissue in half and then in half again.
- You’ll have 4 layers.
To make a small flower:
- Fold a sheet of tissue in half and then in thirds.
- You’ll end up with 6 layers.
Step 2: Accordion Fold Your Tissue

From the short side of your strip(s) of paper, fold back and forth like an accordion in even segments.
For giant flowers: the folds should be about 1- 1.5 inch
Medium sized flowers: aim for folds between half an inch and 3/4 inch
For small flowers: half an inch folds are best. You don’t want to make them much smaller than 3/8” or the blossoms will be hard to form.
When you’re done folding, you might have a bit of an overhang on one edge. Trim it off so the edge is even with your accordion. BE CAREFUL not to cut through any of your folds.
For medium and smaller flowers: you’ll have enough from 1 long accordion to make 2-3 flowers. Count 4-6 folded edges and cut along a crease. This smaller accordion segment will turn into a flower!
For giant flowers: use the entire piece you folded for one flower.

Step 3: Add a Wire Stem
Take a length of wire slightly longer than the flower stem you want. Make a sharp hook with one long end and one short. The short end should be about 2” long.

Tuck your folded paper up into the top of the hook. Note: if you’re using 2 colors, the one you want on the inside of the flower should be on top.

Starting at the bottom edge of your folded paper, twist the short end of the hook around the long end, securing the paper in the wire.

It’s helpful to use pliers for the end of the twist, unless you have really strong fingers! You can also crimp the other end of the stem up so there are no pointy ends.
Step 4: Choose the Shape of Your Flower
Grab your scissors and trim the 2 ends of the tissue paper on either side of the wire. Rounded edges will give you more of a peony/marigold/carnation look, depending on the size and pointed ends can look more like dahlias.
Note: When you’re shaping the ends, trim off enough paper so any edges that were folded are gone. You want all the layers to be individual.

Step 5: Form the Blossom!

Center your paper in the wire. Starting on one side, open up the accordion a little bit and gently pull one layer of tissue at a time up towards the crimped wire. This is now the center of your flower.

Try to get the layers as vertical as you can, especially the first few, but don’t pull too hard. It’s okay if you get a little rip here and there, you can disguise it in all the fluffy petals.

When you’re done, use your fingers to fluff it up and move the paper around until you’re happy with it.
Step 6: The Finishing Touches
This step is totally optional!
You can cover your stem with green tape for a cleaner look. Floral tape is ideal but green masking tape or washi tape works, too. Stick the end of your tape to the wire right below the flower and keep twisting/taping until you cover the stem.

Cut your favorite leaf shape out from green paper, (it doesn’t have to be accurate to the type of flower you’re making, these are abstract) add a half inch “stem” of paper to your leaf. This will help you attach it to the flower stem.

Start covering the top of the stem with tape. When you get an inch or 2 down the stem, add the leaf by holding the leaf stem flush to the wire below the area you just covered and tape the leaf stem to the wire as you twist and tape down.

If you don’t have wire, don’t worry, you can use string! Do steps 1-2 and tie a string around the middle of your folded paper and make a knot to keep the paper in place. Don’t tie it so tight that it warps the paper, just so that it’s sitting snugly in the loop of string. Then proceed with step 4.
Voila! Your Paper Flower is Done!

Before gluing petals, give them shape and dimension. Here are three ideas: Fold each petal in half to create a vein and then gently shape the outside edges of the petals with a bone folder. Curl the tips of each petal in or out. Cut a slit in the bottom of each petal, cross the two pieces, and hold with glue so the petal stands up.
