Human Body Systems — Worksheets

by Liesl - Homeschool Den

Today I’m sharing our Human Body Systems Worksheets with you.  This set provides an overview of the Body’s major systems. It also talks about human cells, tissues and organs.

Human Body Systems and Organs Worksheets

One year, I made this matching page of the body systems and we did this page one morning to add to their science notebooks.

BodySystemsWorksheet

We had two books we used a lot for these units: Human Anatomy Coloring Book ( affiliate link ) has pages you can print out and color in.

Human-Anatomy-Coloring-Book

The kids spent quite a bit of time on  how the human body is organized… from cells to tissues, then organs and finally the human body systems.    I go in a lot more detail about these new human body worksheets here: Organization of the Human Body: Cells, Tissues, Organs, Systems .

Now 50+ Page Human Body System Worksheet Packet

HumanBodyWorksheets-Cells-Tissues-Organs-Systems

We added a few new worksheets to the human body systems packet recently.  This time, we focused more on the organs in each body system and their organs. Plus, we also added a page on the integumentary/skin system which is the body’s largest organ.  These are included in this packet as well:

Human Body Systems and their Organs

So back to our overview of the Human Body Systems :  I mentioned above that the kids really love the catchy song — “Body System Rocks.”    They wrote down some of the lyrics to the song and some of the key organs connected with each body system in the chart below.

immune system — defends our body  skeletal system — all your bones  excretory system — cleans our body of poisons  muscular system — all your muscles  endocrine system is in control of the thyroid glands  digestive system — mouth and stomach  respiratory system — delivers your oxygen  nervous system — is your control center  circulatory system — is your life pump that keeps your blood flowing This worksheet is part of the Human Body Systems Worksheet Sets

—————————————————-

Each year usually in the spring semester, we focus on the human body.

We often spend a little bit of time reviewing what we learned the previous year and then add to what we learned.

If you have younger kids , you might want to just jump right in with the Skeletal System Unit and/or the Digestive System Unit.

Once my kids were a little older (with my youngest in 2 nd grade and my older two in upper elementary) – we started covering and reviewing Cells (the organelles and their function) each year. I want them to feel comfortable with the names and have a general idea of the “jobs” each of these organelles have. By reviewing it each spring, they’ve gradually come to understand how these work together a little better each year. That will be helpful once they get to high school level biology.

If you have a student who is 8+ you might want to do the units in this order:

Note: Since our family studies one major system each year, sometimes we skim over some of this so we can dive in depth into that particular body system.

  • Photosynthesis (and you can do a little tangent about atoms and building molecules)
  • Human Body Systems (Depending on the age of your kids, you might want to just introduce them to the major human body systems and then move straight on to one of the units below… or you can spend a little time talking about how cells/tissues/organs/body systems work as a whole. The packet you are getting includes ALL the materials, but I’ve added to this over the course of several years, so don’t feel like you need to cover all of this at once!
  • Skeletal System – We almost always review the major bones of the body each year. Some years, we go into more depth about things like the structure of bones or the axial system. Other times, we review the major bones and move on!
  • Digestive System – This was a fun, hands-on unit. I would suggest you do this one before the Circulatory System unit.
  • Circulatory System – In this unit my kids were in elementary and middle school so we did some data collecting, graphing and other activities. If you have younger kids, you can just focus on the blood system (how blood leaves the heart and enters the lungs to pick up oxygen, then returns to the heart where it is sent off to the extremities).
  • Muscular System

Hi i’m liesl.

Liesl HomeschoolDen

Do you believe education can be exciting, inspiring, and full of joy? We do too! I love the quote by William Butler Yeats, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." It's about getting the kids involved, engaged, and fired up about learning (while juggling the rest of life too!)

A bit about me: I have my Master's from Brown University. I have more than 20 years of teaching experience. I was a high school teacher for many years both in the U.S. and internationally and also taught for the University of Maryland before leaving to homeschool my 3 wonderful kids. This free human body printable pack includes human body worksheets with the major organs to cut and paste, simple body parts coloring pages, and free printable My Body posters to display.

This is a great way to introduce human anatomy, and can link in to the “All About Me” topic.

Simple Human Body Worksheets For Kids

These blank templates of body outlines, male and female, can be used for a variety of human body activities.

Blank Body Template for Girl

Blank Body Template for Boy

Suggested Activities

Human body play dough mats.

Laminate the blank templates and use as printable human body playdough mats. Have the kids create their own organs from playdough and place onto the mat to fill in their person.

Cut and Paste Human Body

Use the major body organs worksheet below, cut out each organ and glue down onto the blank template in the right place.

As well as getting familiar with the organs and their locations, cutting and pasting is great for building fine motor skills.

Human Body Drawing Activity

Have the children draw in the body parts, or decorate each person however they would like.

You can adapt this according to your lesson plan. Make two versions – a fully clothed person, and another with the body organs displayed.

Human Body Flip Book

Make a page for each layer of the body, and create a simple body systems flip book.

  • Fully clothed person
  • Muscular system
  • Body Organs
  • Skeletal system

Five Senses Labelling

Label up the five senses on the body outline template. What do we use to hear, see, touch, taste and smell?

Basic Body Organs Worksheet

Cut out the organs from the sheet and stick onto the blank body templates.

This is a simple worksheet for young children, it doesn’t include every organ but the most well known ones so that even younger kids can start to become familiar with the location of the main body organs.

The sheet does not include all of the internal organs of the human body, just the ones which will be more recognisable to younger children.

This activity includes the following major organs of the human body (top to bottom left to right)

  • small intestine
  • large intestine

human body organs coloring worksheet

Body Organs Memory Game

Print two copies of the page above, and create matching pairs. You can use this to create a simple memory match game.

Once you find a matching pair, can you name this body part and describe what it does?

Body Organ Coloring Pages

Color each of the organs below and write a sentence describing what it is, and what it does in our body.

Lungs Coloring Page

Color the lungs and write something about the respiratory system, and how our lungs help us breathe.

lungs coloring page

Heart Coloring Page

Color the human heart, and write a sentence or two describing how it works, or what you know about it.
