James Reece series by Jack Carr Author Jack Carr writes the “James Reece” series of political thriller novels. The series began publication when “The Terminal List” was released in the year 2018.
James Reece is an ex-Navy SEAL and has nothing left to live for. He also has everything to kill for after he learns that the American government is behind the death of his team.
Jack applies the emotions and experience from some real-world combat to the pages of each of these books. He brings some unprecedented levels of authenticity to the genre of political thriller, and takes his readers on a behind the scenes journey into a modern-day special operations solider’s mind. And they dispense an ancient form of justice in today’s modern geopolitical landscape.
“The Terminal List” and “True Believer” were both nominated for Best Thriller Barry Awards.
“The Terminal List” is the first novel in the “James Reece” series and was released in the year 2018. On his final combat deployment, Lieutenant Commander James Reece’s whole team was killed in a catastrophic ambush that claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue all of them. However when those that are nearest and dearest to him are murdered the day he returns home, James learns that this wasn’t an act of war by a foreign foe but a conspiracy that runs up to the highest levels of government.
Now Reece, without any family and now free from the military’s command structure, applies the lessons that he has learned in more than a decade of constant warfare toward avenging the deaths of his teammates and family. Reece targets his foes ruthlessly in the upper echelons of power without any regard for the laws of combat or the rule of law.
This is an intoxicating thriller that cautions against the seduction of absolute power and the people that are willing to do anything to achieve it. Fans of the novel found this to be a fantastic debut with action packed moments and featured some authenticity that only Navy SEALs are able to achieve.
“True Believer” is the second novel in the “James Reece” series and was released in the year 2019. James’ cunning, skill, and heroism put the United States government back into his debt and set him on yet another path of revenge.
When a series of gruesome terrorist attacks plagues the Western world in the midst of the holiday season, and pushes the broader markets fall down into a tailspin. The attacks have been coordinated by some shadowy ex-Iraqi commando that has vanished into Europe’s underground. The US government has an asset that can turn the Iraqi against his masters, and the most wanted domestic terrorist alive, James Reece.
After Reece avenges the deaths of his team and family members, he emerges deep within the wilds of Mozambique, kept safe by his estranged former SEAL member and best friend’s family of. When a sequence of events reveals his whereabouts, he is recruited by the CIA, giving Reece a Presidential pardon as well as immunity for the buddies that aided him in his vengeance mission.
Reece, who is now a reluctant tool of the United States government, travels around the globe, targeting the terrorist leaders and unraveling the geopolitical conspiracy that exposes one traitorous CIA officer and reveals an assassination plot with global repercussions.
Readers found this to be a high intensity roller coaster ride, and explodes with authenticity and action that cements Jack as a new leader in political thrillers. This is a thoughtful, realistic, powerful, and at times a horrifying thriller that is tough to set down, making for a tremendous addition to this genre.
“Savage Son” is the third novel in the “James Reece” series and was released in the year 2020. James has to infiltrate the Russian mafia and turn the hunters and make them the hunted. Deep within the Siberian wilds of, one woman is on the run, being pursued by some man who has secrets, one that is intent on murdering her. One traitorous CIA officer has found safe haven with the Russian mafia with designs on ensuring that a certain ex-Navy SEAL sniper is buried in the ground.
Half of the world away, James recovers from brain surgery in the Montana wilderness. He slowly putting his life back together with the aid of Katie Buranek, an investigative journalist, and Raife Hastings, SEAL teammate and longtime friend. Unbeknownst to all of them, the Russian mafia has set their sights on James in a lethal game of cat and mouse.
In Jack’s most heart pounding and visceral thriller novel to date, explores humanity’s darkest instincts through the eyes of a guy that has seen both the worst and best of it. Carr takes tremendous care in the minute details when describing ballistics, weapons, and battle. This is a brutal and gritty action thriller fueled by an evolving protagonist, tactically beautiful action scenes, and overpowering emotions which push the story forward.
“The Devil’s Hand” is the fourth novel in the “James Reece” series and was released in the year 2021. Twenty years have gone by since 9/11. Two decades after the United States got attacked on its home soil and then embarked on twenty years of war. The foe has been learning, patient, and adapting. And the foe is getting ready to strike again. A new president offers up hope to a country tired of conflict. He is a popular, young, and a self-made visionary, however he is also a guy with a secret.
Halfway across the globe one regional superpower struggles with some sanctions that are imposed by the Great Satan and her European allies, a country whose old religion spawned a team of merciless assassins. Confronted with internal dissent and extrajudicial targeted killings by Israel and the United States, so the Supreme Leader puts a plan in motion to beat the most powerful nation on Earth.
At the same time, in one classified facility five stories going underground, one young PhD student gained access to one level of bioweapons just known to a select number of officials. One second generation agent, he has just been assigned a mission that is going to bring his adopted homeland to its knees.

Just about finish Only the Dead and was attempting to find the next book. I am very disappointed to find this is the last book in the series! I am hoping you are writing a new one as I type this message. I am so invested in all these characters.
Love your books. Can’t wait to get the next in the series. I’m hoping a future book might go into the importance Alaska plays in the next(possible) world war. Alaska is my home. Your writing makes Reece and other characters real in their emotions.
Jimmy Klein said this author is outstanding. After reading The Terminal List, I totally agree. I am looking forward to reading all the other Jack Carr novels with former Navy Seal James Reece as the main character. Such a fun read. Even the late Robert Ludlum would enjoy this author. Keep them coming!

Since then, Carr has taken the industry by storm, quickly landing atop the Times list on his way to being one of the most respected, and recognized, thriller authors in all of publishing. Most recently, he released In the Blood (2022), the fifth book in his James Reece series, which was both critically acclaimed and a huge hit with readers.
In classic Jack Carr fashion, the title reveal came by way of a teaser video posted across various social media platforms. You can see the original post below.

In the Prime Video series adaptation, James Reece is dealing with the conflation of memories. Much like the series, there is a little conflation between the show, the novels, and the life of Jack Carr in The Terminal List “starter kit” below.

James Reese Books Overview
The book of shadows.
Alone among the young girls taught by nuns at a convent school in nineteenth century France, orphaned Herculine has neither wealth nor social connections. When she’s accused of being a witch, the shy student is locked up with no hope of escape… until her rescue by a real witch, the beautiful, mysterious Sebastiana. Swept away to the witch’s manor, Herculine will enter a fantastic, erotic world to discover her true nature and her destiny in this breathtaking, darkly sensual first novel.
The Book of Spirits
In his first novel, the national bestselling The Book of Shadows ,James Reese beguiled readers with a boldly imaginative, darkly erotic tale of awakening that introduced the captivating and deeply unusual Herculine. Now this extraordinary writer continues Herculine’s incredible journey of self discovery a search that will lead her into a world of shadows and perils, where she will taste the forbidden and find redemption.
September 1826. Taught to trust… and to learn by a quartet of remarkable saviors, Herculine is bound for America, leaving behind a strange and violent past in France for an uncertain future in an exotic new land. Arriving in Virginia, Herculine is led by fate to Mother of Venus, a mysterious old slave woman who is blessed with gifts both terrifying and strange, and to a young poet named Edgar Poe who is haunted by evils of the past. Under the mystical guidance of Mammy Venus, Herculine soon calls upon her powerful legacy to rescue Celia, a beautiful, damaged slave. Landing in the coastal wilds of Florida, Celia stirs passions and dark, otherworldly powers within Herculine, propelling them into an erotic obsession that only the missing witch Sebastiana d’Azur can break.
Hope comes in a missive that will lure the desperate Herculine north, to the chaotic streets of New York and a strange, magical house in which the confused and eager witch is accepted by a band of like minded sisters and introduced to exquisite carnal pleasures. Finally loosed from the shackles of shame and desire, Herculine heads south once again to find salvation and fulfill her destiny.
Set in a time of promise and peril, bondage and bloodshed, James Reese’s lush, richly atmospheric, and beautifully told tale shatters the boundaries between the living and the dead, the magical and the ordinary, the imagined and the historical. A novel of the mind and the senses, The Book of Spirits is a mesmerizing and unforgettable work from an exceptional talent.
New York Times bestselling author James Reese has been praised for his lush and evocative prose, his bold exploration of illicit sexuality, his deft handling of historical settings, and his extraordinary rendering of the supernatural. His novels are sumptuous trips back in time to an era filled with unforgettable characters, human strife, and emotions that transcend time. Now, in his most imaginative book to date, Reese takes the witch Herculine on a voyage that will test her in every way, elevating her from the depths of despair to triumph.
In the middle decades of the nineteenth century, Herculine is summoned from self imposed exile by her teacher, the witch Sebastiana d’Azur, and told to sail from the Florida territory to Havana. There she is to search out one Queverdo Br a cruel and demonic man whose house holds terrible secrets to learn of a certain ‘surprise.’ But lies and truths conspire to separate Herculine from those she loves, and she finds herself alone with Br , who sees in her something he has long sought, and now seeks to use, harshly, as he practices that most ancient of arts: alchemy.
Escaping Br , Herculine sails from Havana, knowing Sebastiana is near. In the Florida Keys, she reunites with her and meets her ‘surprise’ the shocking product of a forbidden encounter ten years prior. Surviving an Indian attack on a sparsely settled key, Herculine and family decamp to Key West. There they set out to make their fortune by means magical or otherwise as Herculine is tested at every turn by the harsh landscape and haunted by thoughts of her own demise.
With The Witchery , James Reese brings to a close a remarkable trilogy a story told by a character who ‘invades our consciousness’ Tampa Tribune and set in ‘the heady atmosphere of a bygone era brought deftly to life’ Eric Van Lustbader. Spanning decades ravaged by war, disease, and ideals that tore a nation apart, Herculine’s ultimately triumphant struggle is both a universal one marked by love, loss, fear, and regret and yet quite particular, as told by one of the most inventive novelists working today.
The Dracula Dossier
Stalled in his writing career and feeling overwhelmed by his charismatic, successful boss Sir Henry Irving, Bram Stoker returns to London in the summer of 1888 determined to turn his life around.
Late one night Stoker decides to take a stroll through the streets of Whitechapel, an impoverished district of London known for its many prostitutes as well as the citizenry crowding its shadowy alleys. Amid the shadows, he spies a seemingly familiar figure, a man resembling a quack American ‘doctor’ of his acquaintance. But before Stoker can be certain, the man disappears.
Little does he know that just a few steps away, the crime spree of the century has begun: a vicious killer has claimed his first victim, a local prostitute. And Stoker somehow becomes the prime suspect. To clear his name, he enlists some of his illustrious friends, including Walt Whitman, Lady Jane Wilde mother of Oscar, and the million copy selling Victorian novelist Sir Thomas Henry Hall Caine. When they discover that the murder weapon is a Gurkha knife owned by Stoker and recently stolen from his home, there can be no doubt that the elusive American doctor Francis Tumblety is the very same man terrorizing and taunting London as Jack the Ripper.
Moving from Manhattan to London’s West End and Whitechapel, from Dublin to a ritualistic denouement in Edinburgh, this sweeping, magnificent novel is a suspenseful trip into the heart of literature and history, as Stoker sets out on the ‘true’ adventure that will later inspire him to write Dracula . James Reese has been praised for his ‘sweeping narrative’ Clarion Ledger , Jackson, MS, ‘vivid characters’ Washington Post Book World , and ‘imaginative wizardry’ Orlando Sentinel , and The Dracula Dossier is perhaps his most stunning achievement to date.

“Infertility?” I wasn’t in the habit of parroting people’s words, but … what the shit? Infertility! I was barely thirty. I had at least five more years to make gorgeous, memorable mistakes with random men before I needed to think about having babies.
“Sorry, pal. My time with you didn’t chart in the first twenty memorable fucks I’ve had.”
“I’d still let you warm my bed, if you play your cards right.” I knew this was going to drive her bonkers. It did. She slapped my face now. Hard. I did not react. “Take me somewhere private so I can bite your head off properly,”
“There’s nothing you can do or say to make me see you as more than what you are. A spoiled little rich boy who ran away from home, but never really escaped the golden cage. You finally found the one thing you cannot have—me—and if it kills you… Well, then die.”
“Not until you answer me. Did. She. Suck. You. Off?” His pale eyes met mine soberly. “Yes.” “And did you enjoy it?” “Yes.”
“I don’t have any other hookups,” he said irritably, like I was the one who was being unreasonable. Was I? “The day your tires got slashed was the day I stopped taking other women’s calls. What do you take me for?”
“You two getting married?” Sam leaned against the foot of the bed, draping an arm over Aisling’s shoulder. “Not yet, I need to propose to him first.” Belle propped her head against my shoulder, and it hurt like all the bitches on planet Earth, but obviously, I did not say a thing. “Would you look at that. Not even married, and she already wears the pants in this relationship.” Hunter jerked a thumb in her direction, laughing. “Knowing Devon, he’ll find a way to get her out of them.” Cillian smiled—and for a second there looked almost human.
"Mummy." – said by a 41-yrs old skeleton
“The night we got in bed together for the first time, at Cillian’s cabin, was the night I first contemplated breaking my pact with myself to never marry a woman.”
He chuckled, and that was when I noticed them. The faint pink scratches on his neck.
“You’ll never be able to tame me,” I warned. “I have no desire to.” He licked his way up my neck, sealing my mouth with a red-hot kiss. With all the tongue and droplets of water and so much desire, I thought I was going to combust. “I like you just the way you are. Unlikely, I know, considering your mule of a personality, but true.” “I’m a mess,” I panted. “Be my mess.”
"It was a small, intimate ceremony in Madame Mayhem. The bridesmaids wore red lingerie and garters and couldn’t say shit about it."
“She was perfect. And by perfect, I meant a mess. No one would touch me with a ten-foot pole if I got her pregnant. Least of all Louisa Butchart.”
