Keurig 2.0 Troubleshooting: 16 Common Problems and How to Fix Them
Your Keurig stopped working or it’s not brewing properly? Need help with Keurig 2.0 troubleshooting? Here are the most common Keurig 2.0 problems and how you can solve them.

This can be frustrating but don’t worry, most of these things can be fixed in a few easy steps. Here are Keurig 2.0 troubleshooting tips you can use to fix your coffee maker (and your morning as well).
How to set up Keurig 2.0
You will find a step-by-step guide in the manual and it’s important to follow all the steps correctly. 1. Plug in the brewer. 2. Lift the handle and remove the shipping disk. 3. Rinse the water reservoir, fill it with water and return to the unit. 4. Press the Power button and wait to preheat (needs approximately 3 minutes). 5. Next, you need to run a cleansing brew. Place a mug on the drip tray, open and close the handle without inserting the k-cup, select 6-ounce setting, and press brew. When you finish the rinsing process, you can use your coffee maker to make the coffee.
Keurig 2.0 won’t brew coffee and it’s not dispensing water
The heating process may last about 3 minutes, so be patient. If nothing happens after this time, then make sure that: 1. The water reservoir is placed properly and there is enough water in the reservoir. 2. The handle is lowered completely and you have the brew setting screen.
If everything seems fine, the water reservoir is in place, the brew button has been pressed and nothing happens for more than 5 minutes, call Keurig Customer Service so they can troubleshoot your machine.
My Keurig 2.0 won’t turn on
To turn on Keurig 2.0, plug in the brewer, then press and hold the power button (the power icon will appear in the bottom right corner of the touchscreen). You should see a Welcome note. If it doesn’t turn on you can try several things: check to make sure that the brewer is plugged securely; unplug and plug in the brewer; plug the brewer into a different outlet. As the last step, Keurig even recommends resetting your home’s circuit breaker.
If nothing works, it’s time to call Customer Support.
Keurig 2.0 More water please error
If you’re getting “more water please” error, refill the water reservoir to the MAX fill line and press continue. You can also remove and place the reservoir back to the unit to make sure it’s placed properly.
If there’s enough water in the water reservoir, the reservoir is placed properly, but you’re still getting this error here’s what you can do:
1. Remove the water reservoir and empty the water. 2. Clean the reservoir by hand using soap and non-abrasive cloth and rinse thoroughly (not dishwasher safe). 3. Check the valve at the bottom of the tank and on the machine where the tank goes. The valve can sometimes get clogged and this can cause problems. 4. Fill the reservoir to the max fill and return to the unit, and make sure it’s seated properly. If it doesn’t work, it’s time for Customer Service.
Keurig 2.0 trickle while brewing
It’s absolutely normal for a Keurig 2.0 not to dispense water in a stream but to trickle coffee. As long as you get a selected beverage size everything it’s fine. If you’re getting only partial cups, try cleaning exit needles and descaling the machine.
Keurig 2.0 leaking
If Keurig 2.0 leaks while preheating, the machine might be clogged. Try cleaning exit needles, the k-cup holder, and the disc under the holder.
Check the valve at the bottom of the water tank to make sure it’s clean and looks fine. The third option is again, the tap method.
If nothing is clogged but the machine still leaks, it’s probably the hose or valve inside the machine and you will need to call Keurig Support for further assistance.
Keurig 2.0 won’t stop filling
If your Keurig 2.0 won’t stop pumping water try the tap method: turn off the unit, remove the water tank, turn the machine upside down, shake slightly and tap the bottom a few times.
If you’re using distilled water, switch to tap, filtered, or bottled water – this should fix the problem. It’s not recommended to use distilled or softened water in Keurig coffee makers.

Keurig 2.0 leaking water after brewing
If your Keurig 2.0 is leaking water after brewing, try cleaning the k cup holder and exit needles, and don’t forget the little tray that sits under the k cup holder. This part can get full of grounds and debris and that can cause problems. Take it out and wash it with dish soap and warm water.
Keurig 2.0 shuts off
Make sure that there is enough water in the reservoir and refill if needed. If that seems fine, check the energy saver option for K350 or auto on/off option for K450 and K550.
For K350 go to settings, energy saver, and turn off this option. Press save to confirm and then use back to return to the settings menu. For K450 and K550 go to the settings menu, then auto-off or energy-saving option, just uncheck the little box next to enable the option. Press save to confirm.
If auto-off/energy saving mode is disabled but the brewer still turns off on its own, please contact Customer Service.
Keurig water under pressure
Keurig “water under pressure” error indicates the problem with the exit needle. Carefully open the handle, take out the pod and clean the exit needle. You can clean exit needles using a paper clip or you can use Keurig maintenance accessory . If this happens more than once or twice in a row, or cleaning isn’t helping anymore (that’s possible too) call customer service for assistance.
Here’s how to clean exit needle on Keurig 2.0.
Keurig 2.0 won’t close
Sometimes the handle gets stuck for no reason. There is a really helpful video I found on YouTube that should help you solve this problem.
Keurig 2.0 stuck in preheating mode
The machine needs about 3 minutes to do an initial preheating. If the process takes longer, then it’s possible that something is wrong with the machine.
Unplug and plug in the brewer again to repeat the process, just in case. Make sure that the water reservoir is in place and there is enough water in the tank. If everything seems fine but still nothing happens, it’s recommended to call Keurig customer service.
There is a fix that worked for some of our readers. Unplug the machine, fill the tank with hot water and turn the machine back on. The machine should recognize hot water and start working again. Please note, Keurig only recommends adding cold water in the tank, so while the fix usually helps please use it at your own risk.
Keurig 2.0 auto on won’t work
Sometimes Keurig 2.0 won’t brew if there’s not enough water in the reservoir. If you lift the handle or move a carafe after you turn on the auto ON, the auto brew will cancel.
If you did everything right, there was enough water in the reservoir, you didn’t move a carafe or lifted the handle after you’ve set the auto on, the enable box was checked and you didn’t forget to press SAVE, but it still doesn’t work then it’s the brewer and you should call Customer Service.
Keurig 2.0 screen is blank or not responding
Unfortunately, screen issues are a very common Keurig 2.0 problem. Usually either the touch screen doesn’t work or there’s a blank screen. There’s really not much you can do about it except unplug and plug in the brewer to see if it work. This fix can often help (YouTube), so you can try that as well.
Please pay attention to how often this happens. If it’s just once or twice it’s not a big deal, but if you think it’s happening too often, call Customer Service. It’s not something that will solve on its own and you probably don’t want to turn the machine on and off all the time because the screen goes crazy.
Grounds in the cup
If you’re getting ground in your cup, switch to tap or bottled water. Keurig doesn’t recommend using softened or distilled water in their machines. If you’re using softened water, empty the tank, fill the tank with tap water and run a few rinse cycles to rinse the machine. This should solve the problem and you should be able to make the coffee without any issues.
Regular cleaning is important as well. Make sure to clean the brew head regularly.

How to use non-branded k-cups in Keurig 2.0
Keurig 2.0 brewers only work with Keurig branded k-cups. If you want to use non-branded k cups in Keurig 2.0 here’s what you can do: 1. You can cut the top of the Keurig branded k-cup and attach it on top of any other k cup. 2. Cut the left side of the updated label and attach it to the left side of any k-cup you want to brew. 3. You can attach a part of the label over the scanner itself.
If you want to use your own coffee in Keurig 2.0 or you simply prefer eco-friendly options, you can purchase Keurig 2.0 reusable filter for $8.00. This filter works with all 2.0 series brewers and it’s optimized for brewing a k-cup size (4 – 12 ounce). If you want to brew your own coffee as a carafe, you can get a reusable carafe filter .

Keurig 2.0 says add water but it is full
If your Keurig 2.0 coffee maker is displaying the “add water” message even though the water reservoir is full, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue.

If the water reservoir is seated properly and you’re still getting the “add water” message, try cleaning the water sensors. These sensors can become dirty or blocked, preventing the coffee maker from reading the water level correctly.
To clean the water sensors, remove the water reservoir and use a cotton swab or toothpick to clean the sensors. You can also try running a clean cycle with vinegar to clean the sensors.

If the reservoir is in place, try removing it and then putting it back on. This can sometimes jar loose whatever is causing the issue.
If neither of those works, you may need to descale your coffee maker. Descaling is a process of removing built-up minerals from the machine, and it’s something that needs to be done periodically to keep your Keurig running smoothly. You can buy descaling solutions specifically for Keurig coffee makers, or you can use a generic descaling solution.
Keurig 2.0 won’t power on after descaling
If your Keurig 2.0 coffee maker won’t power on after descaling, there are a few things you can try. First, unplug the coffee maker and then plug it back in. If that doesn’t work, try resetting the coffee maker by pressing and holding the power button for 30 seconds. If that doesn’t work, you may need to contact Keurig customer service for further assistance.
Keurig 2.0 only making half a cup
If your Keurig 2.0 coffee maker is only making half a cup of coffee, there are a few things you can do to try and fix the issue. First, check to see if the water reservoir is full. If it is, then empty it and refill it with fresh water. Next, check to see if the coffee filter is clean. If it isn’t, replace it with a new one. Finally, descale the coffee maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

In conclusion, if you are experiencing any problems with your Keurig 2.0, be sure to consult the troubleshooting guide above for help. If that does not resolve your issue, feel free to reach out to customer service for further assistance.

You’ll agree with me, we’ve really come to love Keurigs – they allow us to make a delicious cup of java with no mess, no fuss. Period.
As Keurig has evolved over the years, so has their ability to help their users maintain them. While all Keurig needs a bit of attention every now and then, the latest (Keurig 2.0) models alert themselves when it’s time to descale or add more water.
But it’s not always the case and oftentimes you deal with some problems like it leaks, won’t brew, won’t turn on, or won’t read the K-cups .
This can be frustrating, but you don’t need to cry over spilled milk; luckily, most of these problems require minimal effort to fix your machine.
In this article, I’ve jotted down the best possible methods to help you fight against the most commons Keurig problems.
Let’s get started…
Most Common Keurig Problems
Problem 1: Keurig Isn’t Working / Brewing Coffee Properly Problem 2: Keurig Won’t Turn On Problem 3: Keurig Keeps Shutting Off by Itself Problem 4: Keurig Machine is Leaking Water Problem 5: Coffee Is Tasting Like Feet All of a Sudden Problem 6: Keurig 2.0 Showing “add more water” Problem 7: Keurig Touchscreen Not Turning On Problem 8: Keurig Not Dispensing Water Problem 9: Keurig Stuck on Preheating Problem 10: Keurig Is Giving a “Prime” Error Message Problem 11: Keurig Isn’t Resetting Problem 12: How to Advance Resetting Keurig Problem 13: Keurig Not Brewing Full Cup of Coffee Problem 14: Keurig Says Brewing But Nothing Comes Out Problem 15: Keurig Dispensing Grounds in The Cup Problem 16: Keurig Brewing Weak Cup of Coffee Keurig Warranty
Problem 1: Keurig Isn’t Working / Brewing Coffee Properly
There could be many possible reasons that cause your machine to stop brewing coffee. Here is how to make your Keurig fully functional when you face any of the most common problems:
1. Too much scales buildup blocking the internal pipes / debris clogging the water lines.
This mainly happens due to the quality of water used in your coffee maker.
If you’re using hard water, with time, it will begin to fill up with scales (mineral-based deposits), and eventually your machine will stop functioning properly. In addition to that, if the water is too lacking in minerals, it will also make your machine struggle to function fully.
Here are the best water treatments to help coffee connoisseurs:
1. Softened Water
This type of water contains a high level of sodium and bicarbonate ions. In areas with hard water, using softened water (encapsulated with minerals) can be a useful option to stop the building up of scales in your coffee machine.

2. Ultra Pure Water (Reverse Osmosis)
Sounds complicated, but it’s really quite simple.
This another great approach not only prevents the debris build-ups but also improves the overall lifespan of your machine.
This process of this method involves keeping the water under pressure as it passes through the minute holes. The large particles (magnesium, copper, sodium, and even fluoride) leave behind while the clean water is filtered through.
However, using water with no mineral will make you an overly-acidic and unbalanced cup of coffee.
What’s the fix?
Baristas around the world use the following methods to achieve the right balance for coffee and coffee machines:
- Remineralisation : The process involves adding back some vital minerals which make the water blend correctly with coffee.
- Filtered Water : The improves the taste and quality of water by reducing the chlorine and chloramine – makes your coffee flavor more palatable.
So, using the right type of water is important, not only for making your Keurig fully functional but also for the brew.
2. Water lines have air bubbles
To get rid of air bubbles in the lines:
- Fill the Water Reservoir.
- Turn off the Keurig and pull the plug.
- Now, give your Keurig a quick gentle shake.
Performing this technique will ensure there’s no air trapped in the water lines.
Alternatively, you can use a straw to blow to getting rid of stuck air.
3. Mis-positioning of machine parts inside the unit
This isn’t very common in machines with magnetic components, but you can do a quick check to confirm if they are seated properly or not.
4. Insufficient warm-up time
Forcing the machine for brewing without giving an insufficient heating time either makes it stuck within the brewing process, or it will give you a very little or inadequate amount of brewed coffee.
So, if your Keurig isn’t working properly, performing the given methods/techniques will more likely reduce the chances for non-functionality while giving you a smooth and well-balanced cup of java (if the quality of water is the concern).
Problem 2: Keurig Won’t Turn On
This is quite a common problem when you’re trying your set up your newly purchased Keurig or powering the one you’ve been using for a while.
Here are the possible fixes for this issue:
- Perhaps, you forgot plugging in the unit – A rookie mistake, lol!
- Check your outlet by plugging some other electric machine to make sure if it’s working or not.
- Plug the unit, locate the power button and hold it down until the machine lights up.
- Make sure the water reservoir is seated properly at its place otherwise, Keurig won’t turn on.
- Double-check if the power cable is attached properly to your machine.
If nothing helps, it’s time to call Keurig Customer Care support.
Problem 3: Keurig Keeps Shutting Off by Itself
There could be two possible reasons that cause your brewer keeps shutting off randomly.
1. The magnet in the water reservoir is out of place.
For instance, once you remove the water reservoir, you’ll have to make sure you’re placing it correctly, in other words, magnetic contacts on the reservoir should be in contact with the ones on the machine. If it’s not in its right place, Keurig will be shut down as it’ll not sense any reservoir for freshwater.
Fixing this issue is so easy : Simply use your hand to realign the magnet and place back your water reservoir properly.
2. Auto off timer is set.
Keep in mind, some machines in the latest Keurig line have auto shut-off feature that might cause your brewer to shut off automatically.
If you don’t want this feature, you can adjust or disable the timer so it will no longer be set to “auto” and cause your brewer to power down unnecessarily.
Once you’re done making the possible fixes, resume the brewing process to see if the problem is resolved.
If none of the solutions work, Keurig Customer Care can assist you better with this.
Problem 4: Keurig is Leaking Water
Keurig customers often complain about water leakage, mainly while heating OR out of the bottom. Here are the possible fixes to encounter those problems:
1. If Keurig leaks water while heating
This might happen due to clogged needles or by using incorrect capsule size. You can try cleaning both exist needles and K-cup holder. Also, make sure the valve at the bottom of the water is clean and looks fine.
About correct pod size, there are many trustworthy instructions available to guide you better, and also make sure you follow the Keurig guidelines to prevent unwanted damage to your machine.
2. If Keurig leaks water from the bottom
In this case, the problem might be due to a ring at the bottom of the water reservoir or damage on the hose or seal inside the machine.
If it’s an o-ring that’s causing the water leakage, you can easily replace it with the new one ( here is the tutorial on how to replace the o-ring inside Keurig). However, if it’s due to the hose or seal inside the machine, you’ll have to disassemble your Keurig that I won’t recommend.
If nothing helps, It’s always better to call Keurig Customer Care service for further assistance.
Problem 5: Coffee Is Tasting Like Feet All of a Sudden
For instance, if you haven’t changed your coffee brand , there would be several reasons that can affect the taste of your coffee, i.e.; pungent vinegar smell and bad coffee taste.
Here are the possible solutions to the most common reasons:
1. Leaving a filter paper during descaling
If you knowingly left the filter paper while descaling, it’s now soaked with vinegar water that causes your coffee to taste flat due to unwanted sharp vinegar smell.
In this case, it’s helpful to consult the user guide and make sure you’ve removed/replaced all the filters.
2. Water reservoir isn’t rinsed properly
Your coffee is 98% water, if the water tank isn’t rinsed properly after cleaning with vinegar, the brewed coffee leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
The easy solution to this problem is emptying the water reservoir thoroughly and refill it. Before doing this, please ensure that the unit is cooled down for several hours.
3. Absorption of vinegar by plastic parts
The easiest solution to this problem is rinsing your Keurig with hot water to get rid of the irritating vinegar smell in your cup of java.
4. Oil/Scale buildups
As we’re already discussed in the #1 Problem, make sure you use the right quality of water to avoid scales built up and make sure you clean the coffee grounds and other dirt that come in contact with your regular cup of java.
Whereas the advance Keurigs alerts automatically for descaling, you’d possibly do well by thoroughly cleaning your coffee maker after every 3 months or even sooner if you brew the coffee more often.
Problem 6: Keurig 2.0 Showing “add more water”
Try filling the water reservoir to the maximum level and see if the error message persists. If this doesn’t help, here is the possible way to fix this issue:
- Remove the water tank unit and empty the water fully.
- Clean the water reservoir with the soap, and non-abrasive cloth (not dishwasher safe), then rinse from top to bottom.
- Check the valve at the bottom of the water unit and on the machine where the water unit goes. Sometimes, it gets clogged and causes a problem.
- Now, refill the water reservoir to the maximum level and place it back in the machine. Make sure it’s placed properly.
- Once done, check if the error message is gone.
If the above solution couldn’t fix the “add more water” error, it’s time to call Customer Care service.
Problem 7: Keurig Touchscreen Not Turning On
Touchscreen issues are very common with the new Keurig 2.0 brewers, and in often cases, either the touch doesn’t work, or screen goes all blank.
There’s nothing more than you can do except unplugging the brewer and plug it back in.
If a brewer prompting the start a brew or water only dispense, the problem has been fixed successfully, but if it’s getting frozen or not working too often, it’s time to call the Customer Service team for further assistance.
Problem 8: Keurig Not Dispensing Water
When your Keurig got a water pumping problem, you just hear some kind of grinding noise as the Keurig pump attempts but fails to pump the water through.
There could be several reasons, but most likely it happens because of water scaling, debris build ups and interferes with the water pump.
Here is the possible way to fix this pumping issue:
- Simply take the water reservoir out, empty it out and refill it about a third of the way.
- Shake the water around in the water reservoir, empty it fully and locate the opening from where the Keurig pumps water into the brewer.
- Clean the opening fully and make sure there’s no debris that may obstruct the action of Keurig water pumping.
Hopefully, Keurig water pumping should function correctly after this.
But if it still not pumping water, you can try:
1. Insert Turkey Baster
You can try inserting the turkey baster into the part that connects the machine and water reservoir, with some water already in the unit.
You’ll notice, water gets cloudy as the scaling and debris are forced into the Keurig water reservoir, giving the turkey basket will all the debris from that part and makes it easier for the pump to push the water freely, and you’d brew your delicious cup of coffee.
If this is still not effective, try descaling the machine with a mixture of vinegar and water and put it through a brewing cycle.
But what if the machine still not pumping water?
It’s likely the motor is trying to pump the water but isn’t able to do it. This might be due to air bubbles have trapped into the machine, declining the pump’s ability to pump the water.
Try various shaking methods to force the unnecessary air out of the Keurig. If this was the problem, try refilling the water reservoir before it gets fully empty in order to prevent this issue again.
But if you don’t hear grinding noise and water isn’t pumping, this indicates the motor may be entirely broken and in this case, motor or entire unit will need to be replaced.
Problem 9: Keurig Stuck on Preheating
Keurigs usually take around 3 minutes for the initial preheating; if the process takes longer, possibly there’s something wrong with the machine. In this case, just unplug and plug back the machine to start the brewing process once again.
Make sure there’s enough water in the reservoir, and it’s seated properly at its place. The problem should be fixed now.
But if nothing happens, there’s a method that’s reported to work for some Keurig users. It involves filling the water tank with warm water. In this way, Keurig should recognize hot water and start working again.
Keep in mind, Keurig recommends only adding cool water in the tank, so if you follow the above method, please do it at your own risk.
However, if the problem still couldn’t be fixed, call Keurig Customer Care for further assistance.
Problem 10: Keurig Is Giving a “Prime” Error Message
This error message indicates there’s low or no water is channeling between external and internal water reservoir. This can be due to a handful of reasons:
- Reservoir is out of alignment
- Reservoir is dirty
- Debris clogging the needles
This can easily be fixed by cleaning your Keurig and testing it with a water-only brew cycle.
Let’s start with the cleaning of the water reservoir to see if this error persists. Here is the instruction to do it:
- Switch off and unplug the machine. Remove the water reservoir and empty it completely.
- Take a damp cloth and use clean water and mild dish soap to scrub inside of the water tank.
- Once you are done cleaning. Rinse it thoroughly and refill it.
- Place back the water reservoir and make sure it’s seated properly.
- Now run test water only brew cycle without using a K-Cup.
Performing this process should remove the dirt for easy channeling of water between the reservoirs, and “Prime” error message should disappear.
But if this doesn’t clear the “Prime” error message, you may also need to remove the debris from the needles and holder as well .
Here’s how to do it:
- Turn off and unplug Keurig. Remove the water reservoir and empty it completely.
- Gently lift the machine’s handle. Hold the Keurig steady in one hand and use your other hand to pull the portion back holder out of the machine.
- Tightly hold the portion back holder with one hand, and using your other hand pull the funnel out of the holder.
- Use the point of a paper clip to scrape around the interiors walls of the back portion of the holder. This will help dislodge if there’s any debris that may be stuck to the walls.
- Force and keep the holder and funnel under the water until all the dirt is gone.
- Let the holder and funnel dry, and then push it back to the coffee maker. Make sure it’s placed properly.
- Keep the lid open and clear the debris away from the entrance needle using a paper clip.
- Once done, fill the water reservoir to the maximum level and run a water-only cycle. This helps to remove any debris from the machine.
You should now be able to make steaming hot, delicious brew without interrupting the annoying “Prime” error.
Still No? Yikes!
Try cleaning the filter screen, and “Prime” error message should be gone. If still it’s not fixed, it’s time to call the Keurig Customer Care to assist you further.
Problem 11: Keurig Isn’t Resetting
Periodically, you may experience technical issues, and your Keurig is incapable of completing the brewing cycle that will require you a reset of the internal computer. If you’re not sure how to do a basic reset to fix the most common issues you encounter with Keurig brewers:
- Turn the machine off and unplug for several hours.
- Plug back the machine and run a test brew cycle.
This should reset your Keurig. But, if simply unplugging the brewer isn’t working, try this approach:
- Remove the water tank before turning off and unplugging your Keurig.
- Leave them unplugged for several hours without the reservoir attached.
- Now plug your Keurig into its own designed outlet.
- Power back the machine and again place the water reservoir. Make sure it’s seated properly.
This brew cycle was interrupted, simply opening and closing the K-Cup holder resets the brew cycle.
Problem 12: How to Advance Resetting Keurig
When a basic reset doesn’t work, an advanced reset technique is required. Here is how to reset your digital display Keurigs:
- Press the small and medium cup button simultaneously and release at the same time.
- Just as you release the buttons, press the “menu” three times. If you see “06:09 on the clock, it means the steps are performed correctly.
- Press “menu” once more, and digital display change to “brew 0:00”.
- Press the “medium cup” button and at the same time press and release the “menu” while still depressing the “medium cup” button.
- Keep holding the “medium cup” and press the “small cup” button. Now release both the buttons at the same time.
- Once done, unplug the machine for several minutes and then plug it again.
Following this advanced technique should reset the internal computer and resolve all the technical glitches if there were any.
Problem 13: Keurig Not Brewing Full Cup of Coffee
A short cup occurs when Keurig doesn’t brew the coffee size you selected. This might be due to a clogged needle (due to coffee grounds or cocoa mix), a machine requires cleaning or a water reservoir being removed while brewing.
This is the best possible method to achieve the perfect size:
- Make sure there’s enough water in the reservoir, and it’s seated properly.
- Perfect a water-only cycle on the brew size 6 oz or 8 oz into a measuring cup. If the expected amount of water is dispensed, it means it’s fixed properly. But if it couldn’t.
- ( Optional : If you’re using Water Filter): Remove the water filter and run water only cycle; if the machine dispenses the right amount of water, you’ll have to change the Charcoal filter or Water filter back to the machine. But if it couldn’t.
- Clean the entrance and exit needles. Now run a couple of water-only cycle, and with the measuring cup, determine if it dispenses the right amount of water.
Hopefully, your machine will begin dispensing the proper amount of water. But if still, it couldn’t, Call the Keurig Customer Care service for further assistance.
Problem 14: Keurig Says Brewing But Nothing Comes Out
The initial preheating takes about 3 minutes, so be patient. If nothing happens thereafter, then make sure:
- There’s enough water in the reservoir, and it’s placed properly at its place.
- You fully lowered the handle, and there’s a “brew” setting on the digital display.
If everything seems fine and still your coffee maker doesn’t brew, seek help from Keurig Customer Care service to troubleshoot your Keurig.
Problem 15: Keurig Dispensing Grounds in The Cup
Here are the most common reasons if you’re seeing grounds in your waiting cup:
- Incorrect size pod or pod failure
- Clogged needles due to hard water or scales
- Refilling K-Cup not using the right ground size
- Improper positioning of pods lid
If needle clogging is the reason, you’ll need a paperclip for unclogging the exit needle. Run water only brew cycle and look for any grounds are coming out. Repeat the water brew cycle to clean any residual grounds.
Always use coarse coffee grounds if you’re using reusable filter and also make sure you don’t overfill the K-cup as it may also make the coffee grounds settle in your cup.
Problem 16: Keurig Brewing Weak Cup of Coffee
Most Keurig models allow you to select the amount of water to go through the grounds. The default is for generally accepted American tastes, which is more of flavored water, in my opinion.
I’d suggest not using 8-ounce or further higher cup options when you’re concerned about weak coffee taste. Since it will be the same amount of grounds no matter how much liquid you use.
The easier and best possible hack to combat this weak coffee by Keurig is by using the 2 pods on the lowest ounce setting in your machine.
Alternatively, you can use a strongly roasted K-cup. The companies like Death Wish Coffee and Barista Prima are claimed to best in terms of strong taste coffee.
Keurig Warranty
If you’re a java lover like you may have come to the point that Keurig is more like a family member and first stop to get you up every morning. I depend on it, and living without it would be impossible, so I make sure it’ll be there for me in the long run.
Luckily, Keurig® company offers a generous 1-year limited money-back guarantee that mellows me out and take all the risk off the shoulders.
The guarantee begins from the date of purchase, you must save your original receipt to prove and troubleshoot your Keurig if any problem were to arise. Just in case you lost the warranty card that comes with the box, try other possible ways like your email address, date of purchase, your name, etc., to verify your purchase and guarantee.
Keurig is pretty lenient to support you if you somehow misplaced your paperwork, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Keep in mind this 1-year warranty is only limited to genuine Keurig Units. Buying from other manufacturers like Breville, Cuisinart, and Mr. Coffee will carry an only 30-day money-back guarantee by Keurig.
I’m pretty much pleased with the material it built and the craftsmanship involved in its construction. However, the Keurig warranty is applicable only if it was intended to be used according to their implied limitations .
So, how does it work?
In most cases, your Keurig brewer will be replaced, or replacement of defective part will be mailed to you if it’s something simple as drip tray, brew basket, mesh filter. They may prefer to repair your unit or refer you to some near local distributor but this happens rarely.
In most cases, a replacement will be a refurbished unit but don’t fret as it will carry a new 1-year warranty (starts from the shipping date).
Again, just don’t forget to save the original receipt that comes with the unit!
How can you take advantage, if your Keurig is still under warranty?
Just call Keurig’s Toll Free Number , or send an email with your questions, they will be happy to assist you.
A Few Final Words
Keurig has a true-hearted fan following, and its coffee makers are loved around the world. They are multi-functional and can make you anything from coffee, tea, and even hot chocolate – definitely a wonderful choice for anyone who is a fan of speciality beverages .
But waking up to no morning cuppa can be surprisingly daunting when your Keurig doesn’t work for any reason. So, it’s always better to prepare yourself to deal with such problems rather than not expecting them at all.
I hope this article might have solved the most common problems you encounter with your Keurigs. However, if you’re facing any other problem not mentioned in the article, please do let us know with the proper solution; we’ll be happy to add so it would be helpful for other readers too.
Lastly, if none of these help to fix your Keurig, the best option is to contact the Keurig support centre.

I just got a new Keurig after my 10 year old classic stopped brewing correctly. The coffee is like water. I called to see what was going on, and a rude customer service rep said that they’re completely different now, and I need to either use two pods on the smallest cup setting, or buy stronger coffee. So basically, they ‘improved’ their product and now I can’t use the same pods I’ve enjoyed for 10 years, because their new machine/technology is somehow so much better? It spits out an extra ounce of clear water at the end of the brewing cycle, after brewing a weak cup to begin with. So disappointed.

I feel the water reservoir all the way to the max put my coffee filter in And hit the 12 cup button and it will only make 10 I have cleaned it twice and it’s still only makes 10.

January 8, 2021 at 3:08 AM
Mine either. Have you figured it out? I did the descale today, and on the 3rd rinse it ran out of water and steam started coming from the top. It turned off and now it wont turn back on at all.
March 23, 2021 at 7:50 AM
Same thing happened to me today.
March 28, 2021 at 5:36 PM
Mines did the same thing and for the third machine but happened when I first purchased in October they replaced it. Then it haooen d to replacement in January and they replaced it. Then rescaling yet again yesterday on the third machine d and in 30 seconds of call they replaced it. I think there is an issue with this model they are not admitting to.
January 26, 2021 at 8:50 PM
Mine doesn’t turn on either. I was going to descale this morning and it won’t even power on. Tried everything. Have they replied to you?
January 30, 2021 at 7:52 AM
Mine won’t power on either! Did you ever get an answer to your question?
February 4, 2021 at 5:08 AM
did you get an answer? mine won’t turn on after descale
March 19, 2021 at 6:56 AM
Hopefully yours were all replaced under warranty. I had the same issue and a new one was sent. I popped open the old one and found the thermal fuse in series with the heater element and hot connection to the control board was open. Based on the number of occurrences here, I suspect this is a design flaw.

My 2.0 (admittedly pretty old) has just stopped allowing me to adjust the size of the cup being brewed. We have unplugged and reset several times. Is this a sign that it’s on its last legs?
March 7, 2023 at 10:13 AM
JoAnn, did you ever get an answer to your question on why the coffee maker would not let you adjust the cup size ? Mine is also a 2.0 and has started giving us only a 4 cup brew instead of the 6 or higher. I adjust it for higher and still get 4. Just wondering if you figured out what to try or got yours fixed or had to buy a new one . Thanks so much …

Your suggestion on how to solve the “ADD WATER” problem by washing out the connections worked. (Rebooting did not work for me…)

Here’s a new one. I have a keurig classic with the filter in the water tank, I bought last year in June. I clean in regularly. Yesterday I turned it on, it heated up fine, put a pod in, it started running water and clicked off. Alright, I’ll try again. Same issue. So I took it all apart, cleaned it and ran a descaling cycle then a water cycle. No problems there. Put a pod in to, now this time I tried a cappuccino pod instead of a coffee pod. Same issue as before. Alright, I’ll let it sit over night and try again tomorrow. Tried again this morning, same issue as yesterday. Tried going through the whole descaling process again, that includes letting it start running then stopping it so the solution sits and can dissolve anything that may be building up in the tip. Waited for the timer to be done then ran the easter cycle through, tried making a pod again, clicked off. Frustrated I gave up honestly, went on keurig’s site, then I noticed my product although I haven’t owned it a year doesn’t have the one year warranty WTF. How did I miss that? Luckily the lady at Walmart caught me in the right mood and I purchased the 2yr extended warranty through them and since keurig wouldn’t cover it, they did. I would however like to figure out what’s wrong with my keurig. Anyone else have this issue?

I descaled my Keurig about a month ago and everything was fine. This morning I turned it on as usual, put my coffee pod in and put the top down. It shut off. It went through this process several times and just enough water leaked through that the hole made nothing but coffe grounds come through. I tried running just plain water through and it worked fine. I wiped down the needle and the inside of the basket, pulling the coffee pod holder out also . I repeated this process three times! Still only will work with plain water. If I hadn’t just descaled it and cleaned everything I could understand that maybe the needle might be somewhat jammed up but really? Well when I come home tonight I will do it all again!! Crossing my fingers!

We got a K*Duo Plus. We are mostly using the Carafe side. Now for the last couple of weeks it’s been acting up. It brews not the wanted amount and I cleaned it and it doesn’t help. Instead of 12 cups we get 8 (if we lucky). It’s just 2 years old and for that price we expected a little longer life time. Anyone have similar problems ?

Keurig has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I called in three times to try and get help. The people on the other end have such poor English you can’t understand them. I spelled my email address seven times before they got it correct, then she said the system was updating and wanted me to call back a fourth time. When I asked to speak with a manager, a miracle occurred, and the system stopped updating. I finally got frustrated and hung up without a resolution to my issues.

I have a K-Supreme single serve coffee maker. When using MyK Cup reusable filter (without the 2.0 brewer adapter), the water comes out the dispense hole but also around the sides of the pod holder. It spashes outside the cup and weakens the coffee. This doesn’t happen when I use the commercial pods. I have cleaned the needle, snd cleaned the My K cup filter assembly. This didn’t happen when I first got it.

How To Solve Keurig 2.0 Water Under Pressure Error
Your Keurig 2.0 machine may occasionally show an error message stating, ‘Sorry, Brew Interrupted WATER UNDER PRESSURE.’ This issue is often due to some clogs in the machine. To resolve this, you’ll need to undertake some maintenance procedures to clear the obstruction in the needles. Fortunately, there is a straightforward solution. By following a few simple techniques, you can easily rectify the “Water Under Pressure” error on your Keurig 2.0.
Continue reading to discover the steps!

Table of Contents
Why Keurig 2.0 Says WATER UNDER PRESSURE
The most common issue many people have with their Keurig 2.0 machines is that they will sometimes display a water under pressure error message on the screen. This alert serves as a built-in safety mechanism to prevent potential damage to the machine and to ensure the quality of your brew. Generally, the message indicates that water is unable to flow through the machine as it should, often due to a blockage or clog in the system.
Clogged Needles
The most common reason for this message is a clogged needle. Your Keurig machine has needles that puncture the K-cup pods to allow water to flow through and brew your coffee. Over time, coffee grounds or tea leaves can accumulate, causing a blockage.
If this happens, the cause is that the needle assembly inside the machine is dirty or blocked. The needles are located on the top bottom of the chamber, enabling it to punch off the K-cup, and that allows water for the infusion of coffee grinds.
Internal Tube Blockage
Another area that can become obstructed is the internal tubing of the machine. Mineral deposits from hard water can accumulate over time, leading to reduced water flow and increased pressure.
Early Signs of Keurig Blockage
There are some early warning signs that indicate that your Keurig Needle is clogged. Any of these issues may cause your brewer to malfunction.
- Coffee starts to bitter taste, even after descaling.
- Brewer takes more time to brew.
- Keurig flows a lesser cup of coffee than you selected.
- Brewer unexpectedly shut off while brewing.
- Coffee leakage from the bottom of the machine.
These early signs warn you to clean the needle as soon as possible to avoid unexpected damage.
How To Fix Keurig 2.0 WATER UNDER PRESSURE Message
The key to resolving WATER UNDER PRESSURE lies in regular maintenance and understanding the specific areas that require attention. For the Keurig 2.0 model, there are primarily two solutions to consider: cleaning out the needle and unclogging the tubes inside the coffee maker. The first line of action is to clean the needle.
⚠️ Remember to be careful when you clean the top Needles, as these needles are so sharp.
Method 1 – Clean Keurig 2.0 Needle
Maintaining the cleanliness of the needle in your Keurig 2.0 is a straightforward process that can prevent many issues, including the “Water Under Pressure” message. The most convenient way to clean the needle is by using the orange brewer maintenance accessory. This tool usually comes with most Keurig 2.0 models, but if you’ve misplaced yours, replacements are readily available for a nominal cost.
Using Orange Tool
Here’s how to unclog the needle using the orange maintenance accessory :

- Turn off and unplug the machine.
- Fill the orange tool ‘s silicone bulb with water.
- Place the tool in the pod holder, arrows down. Press firmly.
- Carefully open and shut the lid five times to remove grounds.
- Take out the tool and inspect for removed grounds.
- Power ON the brewer and run a 6-ounce cleansing brew, using water or a rinse pod. Discard the liquid.
- Rinse the orange tool with warm water and air dry.
- Click the pod holder and water tank back in place.
Cleaning Keurig 2.0 Needle Using Paper Clip
A DIY alternative to the orange maintenance tool is to use a paper clip. Here are a few steps on how to do without a tool:
- If you don’t have access to the orange maintenance tool, a paper clip can serve as an effective DIY alternative. Exercise caution due to the sharp needles involved.
- Turn off the brewer, unplug it, and remove the water reservoir.
- Open the brewer’s head and look underneath. Gently pull the pod holder away from the brewer by grabbing its sides.
- Press buttons on both sides to separate the holder from the housing. Push the lever to reveal the exit needle, then flip the holder over while holding the lever down.
- Insert the straightened end of the paper clip into the exit needle and move it around in a circle to loosen any clogs. Rinse the holder and set aside.
- Open the handle to locate the top entrance and exit needles. Insert the paper clip into each and move it around to clean.
- Before using the brewer, run a 2-3 hot water cycle.
Using Keurig Rinse Pods
One of the easiest methods to clean the clogged needle by using the Keurig Rinse Pods . The pods contain an effective cleaning solution that can help you to clean the needle in no time.
- Turn on the brewer and place the Rinse Pod in the K-cup holder.
- Now place the mug under the coffee outlet and brew an 8 oz cup as usual.
- After the brew is complete, remove the pod and run a cleaning cycle. You’re done!
Method 2 – Unclog Keurig’s Internal Tubes
After addressing the needles, the next step is to tackle potential clogs in the internal tubes of the coffee maker. Even with clean needles, some users still encounter the “Water Under Pressure” message. This is often due to mineral deposits that accumulate over time, particularly with frequent use and insufficient cleaning. Air trapped in the tubes from brewing with a low water level can also cause this issue.
The first thing you should do is clear the water tank exit part. This can be done by following this process:
- Remove and empty the water tank and filter holder.
- Flip the reservoir over to find the nozzle with the spring. Use an eraser end of a pencil to push the spring a few times. If it moves easily, the issue likely lies in the water line.
- Reattach the tank and add some water.
- Suck up some water with a turkey baster.
- Directly splash the baster’s contents into the nozzle where the tank meets the water line. This flushes out the line and nozzle.
- Continue this process until the water line runs clear.
- Run a hot water cycle to finalize cleaning.
- Finally, run a hot water cycle to ensure the water line is thoroughly cleaned.
These concise steps should help you efficiently unclog the tubes inside your Keurig coffee maker and resolve the “Water Under Pressure” issue.
If your problem is fixed but does not deliver a selected amount of coffee when brewing, then you will need to Descale your brewer using a Keurig descaling solution . This will remove any buildup inside the machine that may be causing pressure problems.
Understanding and addressing the “Water Under Pressure” issue in your Keurig machine is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and longevity. From needle maintenance to tube unclogging, the solutions are straightforward and can be performed with basic household items. Regular upkeep not only resolves current issues but also prevents future complications, making every cup of coffee a perfect brew. Keep these tips in mind, and your Keurig will serve you well for years to come.
Why does my Keurig keep saying water under pressure?
Your Keurig displays this message as a safety feature to indicate that water is not flowing through the machine as it should. This is often due to a clog in the system, either at the needle that punctures the K-cup or within the internal tubes. Mineral deposits and trapped air can also trigger this message.
How do you do needle maintenance on a Keurig without a tool?
If you don’t have the specialized orange maintenance tool, a straightened paper clip can serve as an effective alternative. Turn off and unplug the machine, remove the pod holder, and use the paper clip to gently dislodge any coffee grounds or tea leaves from the needles. Move the paper clip in a circular motion a few times in each needle, then rinse the holder with water.
How do I know if my Keurig needle is clogged?
A clogged needle will often result in incomplete brew cycles, smaller-than-expected beverage volumes, or the “Water Under Pressure” message. You may also notice that water is not flowing through the K-cup as it should, or you may hear unusual noises during the brewing process.

Keurig Problem 1: My coffee maker is not working
The most common complaint about the Keurig coffee makers that can be seen over the internet is “my Keurig stopped working,” or it simply quits working after a shorter period of time.
The main reason for this Keurig malfunction with coffee machines is the quality of water you’re using. If you’re using tap water in Keurig machines, the chances are that the water is rich in a variety of minerals, including calcium. The debris can build in thin water lines on the coffee maker, making it difficult to work.
The good news is that you’re not facing any kind of technical problem, and it can be fixed easily.
Quick Fix: Blow air using a straw to give it a clean-up.
Solution: For troubleshooting a Keurig coffee maker, the solution is simple. In order to get it up and running, run the machine with water several times without a k-cup inside.
Keurig Problem 2: My coffee maker has caked-on debris
Not cleaning your machine for a long time will cause built-up minerals to form within your Keurig machine. Here are a few solutions that can help your Keurig breathe easy and function like new!
Solution 1: If the Keurig malfunction is due to the calcium scaling in the machine, you can descale it with vinegar mixed with water and soak it in the solution for half an hour. After that, flush the machine several times with fresh water and then try to start it.
Solution 2: Cleaning the dispensing line with something like a paper clip (when the machine is turned off and unplugged) can be helpful in removing the leftover coffee grounds from it.
Keurig Troubleshooting Tip: Keep In Mind
Using vinegar is not recommended by the brand as it might void your warranty.
Keurig Problem 3: My coffee maker makes brewing noises but does not brew
A common complaint across some reviewers is the Keurig coffee maker not brewing. There may be multiple reasons why this is happening.
Reason: The most prominent cause of a Keurig machine not brewing is a deposit of debris within the machine. If this is the reason, it will not brew your coffee and you will end up getting air bubbles or insufficient warm-up time. Or perhaps parts of the Keurig machine are not assembled properly.
Quick Fix: Insufficient warm-up time will not allow the coffee to brew. Make sure that you’re allowing enough warm-up time.
Solution: The other thing that you can try for when your Keurig is not brewing is to check if all the components or parts of the machine are seated properly and are in their correct placement. Just give it a check and you might save a couple of bucks.
Keurig Troubleshooting Tip
If your Keurig mini is not brewing, you can try these potential fixes for the Keurig k mini plus and Keurig k mini compact too!
Keurig Problem 4: My coffee maker is making air bubbles
A common reason a Keurig machine makes air bubbles is because there are trapped bubbles within the dispensing line.
Solution: For air bubbles, fill the water reservoir to the brim and give it a few gentle shakes (while the machine is unplugged and switched off) . This should remove all the air bubbles trapped within the machine that might be interfering with the brewing.
Keurig Problem 5: My coffee maker is leaking or not dispensing water
Not dispensing water is another common issue with the Keurig coffee machines.
There are a number of online customer reviews complaining about the dispensing issue and wondering “why my Keurig maker is not dispensing water out,” so here is a probable cause.
Partial water or no water coming out from the coffee maker is a result of a clogged water line that causes a significant reduction in a brewing cycle. So if you’re wondering Why my Keurig is not brewing? , there is a high chance your water line is clogged.
Quick Fix: The solution to this Keurig malfunction is thankfully really simple and can be fixed by unclogging the water line through a system reset.
Solution 1: Operating the brewing cycle with simple water a few times and without k-cups can be helpful in fixing the issue.
Solution 2: You can also clean the spout and drain the Keurig coffee maker by using a paper clip or a sharp sewing needle.
Solution 3: Descale the clogged water lines and the needles to remove all the excess grounds and debris that are preventing the water from coming out.
You might also experience the Keurig coffee maker leaking water when heating. This also happens because of a clogged water line and you should follow the same steps as a result.
Keurig Problem 6: My coffee maker is not heating
- The water pump is out of order and not functioning properly.
- The heating device inside the coffee maker shuts down due to overheating issues when water is not being pumped properly.
- The water pump is not working on maximum efficiency.
- Dirt and dried coffee get accumulated and cause clogging, which causes the coffee maker to malfunction.
Solution 2: Hold the brew button for a few seconds so that the water pump can work on its maximum efficiency.
Solution 3: If the water pump is not working properly, you might have to get the water pump repaired or you may be having ‘ add water ’ issues. You can avoid this by cleaning the water reservoir.
If nothing else helps, try using hot water for your coffee maker.
Keurig Problem 7: My coffee maker doesn’t turn on or shuts off
- Sometimes the magnetic water reservoir is not properly sealed and this causes the coffee maker to remain switched off.
- The Keurig is not getting enough time to warm up and the water isn’t getting hot enough.
- The water reservoir is not filled up properly.
Solution 2: Hold the power button and check if the power icon appears on the bottom of the screen along with a welcome note.
Solution 3: If the icon doesn’t appear, there might be a problem with the Keurig touchscreen.
Keurig Problem 8: Coffee from my coffee maker tastes bad
Have you ever wondered why can coffee can go bad? Well, if you haven’t changed your coffee brand yet you’re noticing different flavors, look into what is causing your coffee to change its taste.
- The difference in taste mostly occurs due to the build-up of scaling in the coffee maker.
- Use of regular water or tap water for brewing can cause scaling to build up fast.
- Mineral build-up can cause your coffee to start tasting odd.
Clean the coffee maker regularly. The latest Keurig models will give you alerts when it needs descaling.
Solution 1: It’s necessary that your machine goes through a descaling or cleaning process every two to three months. A common home remedy is using a vinegar and water solution to clean the dirt, debris, and residue accumulated in the appliance.
Solution 2: Always use boiled or filtered water for brewing your coffee; tap water has lots of residue and minerals that can accumulate in the machine and buildup scaling.
Solution 3: Get a descaling product and clean your machine properly by disassembling it and cleaning each and every part.
Keurig Problem 9: My coffee maker won’t reset
If you want to know how to reset a Keurig and need guidance on the Keurig 2.0 reset process, we’re here for you. Learning how to reset the Keurig 2.0 is pretty easy, but if your Keurig coffee maker continues to malfunction afterward, you should contact customer service as it might need a repair or replacement.
- The coffee maker isn’t put together properly or the magnetic reservoir isn’t sealed the right way.
- Air gets trapped between various parts of the machine and thus the malfunction occurs.
- There may be a problem with the Keurig’s internal system. The computer or device may have stopped working properly.
- Step 1: Turn it off and keep it unplugged for several minutes.
- Step 2: Plug the machine in again and start a brew cycle. If unplugging doesn’t, work try the following steps.
Solution 2:
- Step 1: Turn it off and keep it unplugged for several minutes. Remove the water reservoir.
- Step 2: After waiting a while, plug in and power on the machine. Replace the water reservoir.
Solution 3: Open and close the K-cup holder. This will reset the appliance if the brew cycle was interrupted.
Keurig Problem 10: My coffee maker is giving the “Prime” error message
This message usually appears when the water doesn’t come out of the reservoir. The water fails to come out of the reservoir for many reasons, such as improper alignment or clogging. Luckily, this can be fixed easily.
- Step 1: Clean the dirty reservoir, using the steps mentioned in the above solutions.
- Step 2: After you’ve replaced the water reservoir, run a water-only brew cycle to check whether the machine draws water or not.
- Step 3: When removing and replacing it, make sure that there aren’t any air bubbles inside and everything is properly aligned.
- Step 4: Fill the water to the max line in the reservoir and place an empty mug to fill with water.
The machine will be flushed and it should start drawing water properly.
Keurig Problem 11: My coffee maker is giving the “Add More Water” error message
The “add more water” error message mostly occurs due to the water reservoir issues. You might see this message if there are problems such as the Keurig coffee maker leaking water when heating.
This error can also occur if you’re adding less water than the maximum line.
Solution 1: You’ll need to take out the reservoir to clean it. Clean the reservoir thoroughly using soap. Rinse it and then dry it properly using a cloth. Place the reservoir back and fill it to the maximum line again. Turn on the Keurig 2.0 and check whether the error message is gone or not.
Solution 2: If the issue persists in your Keurig 2.0, it is fixable by doing a basic Keurig reset.
Keurig Problem 12: My Keurig 2.0 coffee maker is not turning on
Luckily, most Keurig 2.0 problems such as this one are easily fixable if you know how to reset a Keurig 2.0.
As with most machines that don’t turn on, there could be a problem with the power outlet.
Solution 1: Make sure the power button is switched on. The power button is located at the lower right side of the LCD screen of the machine.
Solution 2: If the above solution won’t work, try resetting your Keurig 2.0.
A Major Fix for Most Keurig Problems
- Display fails to change from “not ready” to “ready”
- The machine fails to turn on

If this Keurig troubleshoot doesn’t work, try the advanced technique to reset the internal chip to resolve the glitches. The Keurig 2.0 reset is somewhat different and may require an advanced resetting.
Keurig 2.0: Advanced Reset
- Step 1: Simultaneously press the “ small ” and “ medium ” cups buttons and release them at the same time.
- The clock will read “ 6:09 ” if these steps are performed perfectly.
- The display button should go to “ Brew 0:00 .”
- Step 4: Now, press the “ Medium Mug ” button and then press and release “ Menu ” while still pressing the “ Medium Mug ” button.
- Step 5: Press the “ Small Mug ” button while continuing to hold the “ Medium Mug ” button at the same time.
- Step 6: Unplug the machine several times and plug it again.

Frequently Asked Questions: FAQs
Q: How to reset keurig coffee maker?
- Remove the water reservoir from the machine and allow the brewer to sit unplugged for few minutes without the water reservoir.
Q: Why is my Keurig not brewing?
If your Keurig doesn’t brew the exact amount of cup you requested, this is due to a clogged needle (clogged by ground coffee beans). The best way to fix it is to descale your Keurig coffee maker or remove and reset the reservoir.
The best solution is to buy a descaler designed specifically for removing the dirt and debris from a coffee maker. These descalers can easily remove the blockage without damaging the machine and they make it easier for the machines to perform at their maximum efficiencies.
Q: Why do you descale a Keurig?
Our coffee makers are excellent machinery that can brew fresh and hot coffee within just a few minutes (and give us ~life~ am I right??). However, we sometimes forget to give them their due attention. Descaling is imperative to keep your appliance functional.
This is because this coffee maker has thin water lines which can get easily jammed due to debris. When these lines get clogged, you get little or no coffee. The K-cup pin or the exit needle can also get clogged and may need to be descaled occasionally.
Hard water is more of a trouble for the coffee maker as it has more minerals than normal water, and it can make the water lines clog easily. So if your machine isn’t working properly these days, there might be a mineral build-up inside if you haven’t descaled it for a few months.
If you don’t descale your Keurig coffee maker regularly, you might start facing any of these situations:
- The coffee maker not working.
- The coffee maker not pumping water from the reservoir.
- The coffee maker not brewing enough coffee.
- The coffee produced either tasting off or not being the right temperature.
Q: How do you descale a Keurig 2.0 coffee machine?
The best solution is to buy a descaler designed specifically for removing the dirt and debris from a coffee maker. These descalers can easily remove the blockage without damaging the machine and they make it easier for the machines to perform at their maximum efficiency.
The descaling solutions are made of chemicals and they can cut through the lime and scale easily. However, they are harmful too as they can leave their effect or scent in the water lines.
Q: How to descale Keurig using vinegar?
Vinegar is one of the strongest and most effective products that can easily remove the scaling, clogging, and any other type of debris that accumulates in the water lines. The good thing is that it is very easily available and is very cheap too. Also, you can use it to clean the exterior of the machine just as easily.
Q: How to descale Keurig coffee maker using baking soda?
Another natural remedy for descaling your coffee machine is baking soda. To use baking soda for descaling, you must dissolve it in water, otherwise it can clog the water lines and cause further problems with your Keurig.
On top of that, baking soda is inexpensive and probably present in your house right now! You can use this descaling product to make your machine work as well as it did when your first bought it.
Q: How to descale Keurig coffee machine using lemon juice?
Just like vinegar, lemon juice is also used to clean various parts of coffee makers, and you can use it to clean your coffee maker too. However, you’ll need to use many lemons to descale your machine, as only one or two won’t be of help.
If you don’t like squeezing lemons, you can buy already made lemon juice and use it for descaling. This descaler will clear up all the blockage and scale build-up in the water lines so that you can brew your coffee easily with a good flow.
Q: Can a Keurig be repaired?
The appliance can be easily repaired no matter how big the problem is: the coffee maker not working, water leakage, it isn’t pumping water from the reservoir, the coffee is tasting odd, Keurig doesn’t turn on, Keurig auto on not working, etc.
The main problems most of our readers face are:
- Air bubbles in the water lines
- The various components of the machine aren’t properly fixed or seated and thus the machine doesn’t work properly
- Build-up of scale or the presence of dirt and debris that leads to clogging in the line
- The warm-up time isn’t sufficient and the coffee comes out cold (or at least not as hot as it should be)
- The coffee maker isn’t properly working due to unknown reasons
- The machine is brewing too little coffee
- The coffee has suddenly started to taste bad
- There’s some leakage in the coffee maker, which is making it difficult to perform

Let’s see if someone can help me. My mom’s machine isn’t a year old yet but all light stay on, they won’t shut off. She has u plugged it, left the water tank off, then plugged it into its own outlet but still the lights stay on. The lights are not blinking, just constantly staying on. What could be the problem?
December 7, 2018 at 8:37 AM
That’s the same problem I’m having, machine isn’t even two months old. Pat

Hey Melissa,
I have the exact same problem. It’s so frustrating. I tried the fixes recommended for a reset and none of them worked.
February 18, 2019 at 6:03 AM
Melissa, I have a Keurig Compact K-35 and all of a sudden all of my lights started flashing and would not turn off. I have to unplug to make it stop. I called Keurig and was told that there was no trouble shooting for this problem, but they would be willing to sell me a new one for $110!! I only paid $59 at WalMart!!! Guess what? I’ll get out my Mr. Coffee that I’ve had for over 10 years and use it again. Keurig is such a disappointment. I will never buy another one and will never recomment their products. Their customer service is worthless!! What a waste of money!
March 6, 2019 at 11:44 PM
I just called for service and was told that nothing could be done and to buy a new unit. What kind of advice is that after only 2 years of use? any machine that has been cared for cleaned etc. should be operable. I can’t say much for your product or your service. Lots of Hype but no results.
November 26, 2019 at 5:45 AM
Melissa, I have the same problem , all lights just stay on. I can’t even clean the machine because I can’t get the power button to work when all the lights are on. I’ve tried the recommended fix’s from the troubleshooting guide like you did and none of them work. This isn’t the first time I’ve had issues with Keurig, I think they are just very sensitive and finicky. I’ve noticed that the commentor has not posted any answers to this thread 😞

My maker will not use name brand k-cup. It over flows and make a mess. How do you fix this
April 27, 2019 at 3:01 AM
What’s the model you are using Todd?
June 5, 2020 at 10:02 AM
I’m having the same problem, or similar. The Keurig 2.0 brews a10 oz. cup then you go to brew another cup and the brewer stops, overflows and displays a message something like “Oops….”. You open the handle and it’s a mess with grounds everywhere. Not 😆
December 30, 2021 at 8:30 AM
Sounds like one of two possible issues; 1) the bottom nozzle that pierces the bottom of the K-cup is plugged or broken off. Is there a hole in the bottom of the overflowed K-cup? If there is a hole in the bottom of the used/overflowed K-cup the needle is probably plugged and needs cleaned with a needle or paperclip 2) if no hole in the bottom of the used K-cup the needle is broke off and you need to replace the bottom head assembly. Cheap on Amazon
November 17, 2019 at 1:17 PM
Im having the same issues! My machine hasn’t even been used a dozen times and already having problems! I’m at a point of not knowing what to do to fix it and there’s no help on the internet. All others having the same issues have been told to buy a new one! Craziness!!!
November 19, 2019 at 2:55 PM
Jean could you please let us know what kind or problems you are facing? May be we can help you here.
May 9, 2020 at 8:21 AM
How do you descale the unit when you can’t even hit a button to make it work? All my lights stay on and I can’t chose. I have the duo.
October 25, 2020 at 8:18 PM
Ours is doing the same thing. Were you able to get any assistance???
August 15, 2021 at 8:48 PM

The Keurig starts pumping clear water as soo as the power button is pushed to “on” and wil empty a reservoir which has only filtered water. Help please
January 17, 2019 at 10:26 PM
Rogers did you try descaling or resetting it?
June 26, 2019 at 7:38 AM
Can u help me reset?
June 26, 2019 at 11:51 AM
Sure Jessica! Turn the machine off and unplug it for a few hours. Remove the water reservoir from the machine and allow the brewer to sit unplugged for few minutes without water reservoir. Power the machine again and then replace the reservoir.
Let me know if it works?
March 10, 2019 at 6:58 PM
Same thing happened to me. Wound up pulling the power cord off the wall, cleaning the cup holder and removing the water reservoir. It did go back to work. Buy the way, I only use distilled water as tap or spring water will scale the machine quickly.
April 25, 2019 at 11:25 PM
My Keurig suddenly drains the entire reservoir occasionally. It is quite new and gets regular but not intense usage. It works well otherwise and seems to go back to normal right after it drains. Any suggestions?
August 2, 2019 at 3:02 PM
I have the same problem
August 2, 2019 at 3:07 PM
I have the same problem ; did you find the solution?
September 4, 2022 at 4:51 PM
MIne is doing the exact same thing…..K Elite K90. It will keep pumping the water out until the tank is empty and it doesn’ heat the water. Our machine is not that old, but not Warrantied. Many Thanks if you found a reset or solution.
November 9, 2022 at 8:34 PM
The biggest thing to take note of is the lack of heat. If it’s not heating your water you may be having an electrical issue with the heating element. If you find yourself handy with fixing common household items, this is a fairly easy fix. It could be a lose wire, fixing a burnt out connector, or something of that sort. However, if you are newer to DIY fixes, this may be a little more complicated and could end up being frustrating. I’m sorry your machine is not warrantied, but an easy home fix may not be an option. Personally, I have two coffee makers. My fancier model is in the kitchen which I use the most, but if there are any issues I have a super simple drip coffee maker in the garage that I can grab as a back up. I hope this helps and I wish you the best, DIY repairs can be rewarding or a headache.
March 17, 2019 at 12:23 AM
My machine is not recognizing that a mug is in place, so it does not proceed to BREW.
June 24, 2017 at 3:29 PM
Great article. Thank you. Just curious about something. Many times my Keurig will fail to stop brewing; it gets stuck in the brewing cycle. Sometimes it finally will correct itself while other time it never finishes the brewing cycle. Do I need to reset the machine with the process shown? Thanks
June 25, 2017 at 7:13 PM
Leslie please try this method of resetting your machine. I’m sure it’ll work. Also update here after going through the process.
August 21, 2017 at 10:25 PM
Im impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog thats both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.

My Keurig’s water Reservoir stays full of water, water does not go in machine to make coffee
November 21, 2017 at 10:48 PM
Laura there might be a blockage in your coffee machine. Please clear it with hot water and try again.
October 1, 2018 at 3:44 AM
Laura your keurig coffee maker needles are clogged. You need to unplug your keurig coffee maker and clean the entrance and exit needles with a paper clip. Watch some videos on youtube.com on how to clean the entrance and exit needles. Be extra careful while cleaning the needles. It’s sharp. Or simply call keurig technical support for US 18669012739
October 1, 2018 at 3:45 AM
Thanks for your help Nan Su.
March 8, 2019 at 12:54 AM
Used the paper clip to clean needle at the top of my K cup–1 cup machine (and unplugged/unhooked water vessel) and it worked like a charm.
Thank YOU SO MUCH!!
March 8, 2019 at 4:28 PM
Thanks for giving your input Val dosta.
March 17, 2020 at 12:41 PM
My older single serve Keurig just started spewing water/coffee grounds out of the K-cup just before brewing ends. The needle that punctures the base is clean; I have cleaned it with a needle each time and can see expected light through it. The top needle is clean as there isn’t a problem until the end of the brewing time. What is the origin of the problem??? Otherwise it is fine.
December 17, 2017 at 7:27 AM
I have to say that I can attest to the quality of water problem. Once I switched to filtered water it fixed my problems.
December 29, 2017 at 6:33 AM
I seem to have lost the spout that connects from the water reservoir to the Keurig. Can I buy a replacement, or do I have to send it in for repair?
December 29, 2017 at 8:18 PM
Karen you can get that specific part from the market as well if you don’t want to buy a replacement. I think repair will be a good option.
January 8, 2018 at 10:22 PM
Does the spout connect to anything? I had 2 Keurig machines that worked without a spout. Then a bought a new Keurig Hot, and it would not work, no spout. Last December I ordered Keurig Classic and it has a spout and works. Only problem with it only uses K-pods. no carafe or using my own coffee.
January 9, 2018 at 10:39 PM
Karenn the spout connects your machine to the water reservoir. There are machines with different type of functionalities so you can’t expect every one of them having the same specs and machinery inside them.
May 10, 2020 at 9:35 AM
I have a newer K duo-essential when I brew a carafe The cup and the carafe lights blink , brews a little bit and then blinks again. The cup side seems to be working fine any suggestions?
January 2, 2018 at 5:51 PM
I’m on my 2nd coffee maker in 4 yrs! I love it, but around 2 years, it growls, rumbles & sounds horrible & it brews only 1/2 a cup, PLUS it takes forever for the coffee to come out!!! I’ve read your website & done EVERY recommendation, ie:cleaning w/a paper clip, jiggling air bubbles out, using filtered water every time & using only your k-cups!!! My husband & I only drink 1 cup in the morning, so it’s not as if it’s used all day! I’m ready to scream & throw this one out, as i did the 1st one! what is the warranty on it & how long before it expires? Thank you for your reply back PLEASE RESPOND TO ME………..
January 6, 2018 at 8:26 PM
Helen I think then you really want to throw that thing out and look for the one that can better suit your requirements. Here’s a list of top coffee makers that I have reviewed according to their usage and depending on the reviews of other customers.
April 17, 2018 at 6:07 AM
Buy your pots from Bed Bath and Beyond. As long as you have a receipt they will take it back and give you a new one no matter how old it is.
October 2, 2018 at 3:38 AM
Hi, Warranty on all keurig coffee makers are for one year . Depends when did you purchase your brewer? If your brewer is two years old then warranty is up on that.
November 3, 2018 at 5:58 PM
If you purchase these types of appliances af Costco, they will usually let you return one that has failed, even after a year has passed!
November 3, 2018 at 6:26 PM
Thanks for helping out Carla.
February 3, 2020 at 12:58 PM
This is going to sound a little crazy, but I turned my Keurig upside down dumped all the water from it and “spanked” it and it went back to new operational function! No, I am not kidding! Try it.
February 4, 2020 at 10:39 AM
It sounds funny Kathi but that’s how technology is. We don’t know what works or not.

My Keurig machine is saying Prime. Don’t know how to fix it.
January 18, 2018 at 6:56 PM
Normally this error occurs when water fails to come out of the reservoir. There are several reasons water may not be coming through. The reservoir could be out of alignment, your reservoir could be dirty, or there could be debris clogging the needle. This video also helps you to fix the problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2oEfcjYgpI

Hi, I have the same problem. I cleaned i and I can get water just fine, but no coffee. It begins to process the coffee and then stops. Did you ever find a solution?
February 6, 2018 at 12:46 AM
Hello Edna, I can’t find an answer for this problem. Maybe you can help. My K2.0 has stopped recognizing the carafe k-cups. These are Keurig brand cups but my machine only recognizes them as regular singular cups, I think it’s color blind! I noticed the carafe k-cups have green circles on them. It used to work with the carafes. Thanks!

February 24, 2018 at 4:31 PM
my keurig 2.0 takes forever to stop dripping at the end of the brewing. i have cleaned all parts of the machine.
February 24, 2018 at 8:52 PM
Leslie that’s because the brewed coffee is still left inside it. Try screwing it tightly while fixing the parts.
October 25, 2018 at 6:48 AM
I have the same problem with my 2.0. What do I screw tightly while I fix what part?
October 26, 2018 at 2:30 PM
Sharon! Can you please elaborate on which type of problem you’re facing in Keurig 2.0?
October 31, 2018 at 4:09 AM
Hi Edna, My problem is the same as Sharon’s & Leslie. The coffee drips out long after the brew is over. You said to screw tightly while fixing the parts. What did you mean by that? Gina
February 24, 2018 at 4:36 PM
Keurig 2.0 K400 plus
Instructions for water filter say “Place the now assembled filter into the water reservoir. Push down firmly until it locks into place.”
Well it doesn’t really lock into place. you put in onto the receptacle in the reservoir, push down and then the filter assembly just sort of flops around.
Is this normal?
February 24, 2018 at 8:53 PM
Yes Mark that’s completely normal.

It will not stop dispensing water until the tank is empty and will not heat
January 9, 2020 at 1:57 PM
I’m having this same issue and it came on all of the sudden. The screen is digital and only shows the power icon for me to use. Once I press that, it says “dispensing” and drains all of the water out which is not heated at all.
March 19, 2018 at 3:05 PM
How do you empty the internal water reservoir of all water so the machine be stored away for months??
March 21, 2018 at 2:18 PM
When I open my Keurig to put a k cup in, the compartment does not pop out anymore. Can this be fixed?
March 21, 2018 at 6:20 PM
I also have a Keurig 2.0 Coffee Maker that has the same exact problem. Unfortunately, Keurig Customer Support claims they have not had any other complaints pertaining to this issue. After researching online, and tinkering with my existing Keurig, I was able to find 2 easy solutions without having to take apart or troubleshoot the Keurig. Simply place a K-cup into the Keurig; when you’re about to close the lid either (1) Hold both sides of black frame piece (right above where K-cup sits) and simply pull the handle down or (2) There is a hole in the same black frame that my finger fits in perfectly. (located to the left of the puncturing needle) simply put a finger in the hole and pull towards you to be able to pull down the handle without an issue. If your problem is still there and then I would prefer to see this forum https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/280372/lid+will+not+close
March 22, 2018 at 5:04 PM
I love the Keurig and haven’t experienced problems yet but this is an awesome guide to correcting any issues. I will save this one for the in case. Thanks for this info.
March 24, 2018 at 7:24 AM
Thank you Kelly!
March 22, 2018 at 5:54 PM

I have a 3yr old Keurig 2.0 – All is working well with doing the recommended maintennace periodically. Now this issue has surfaced – After seeing a full cup of coffee the process keeps doing something ( heater / Pump noise) long time until message “ENJOY” … Also it seems during this time it is spattering / spitting liquid over the counter. Any suggestions to clean / adjust ????
March 24, 2018 at 5:30 PM
Many people are facing the same problem consistent humming noise when pumping the water because of the old version model, I highly recommend you to descale your keurig coffee make and if you don’t know how to descale then read our latest article https://homekitchenary.com/how-to-clean-and-descale-keurig-coffee-maker/ . Let me know what you’ll get
Happy Cleaning 🙂

I have a new K-Select classic series (used it 3 days, no problem). When I turned it on this morning the water kept streaming out. I turned it off and tried again, same problem…water coming out. I unplugged it, waited a while, plugged it back in and the same problem! Help!!
April 5, 2018 at 4:19 PM
Denise can you please try to reset it using the method described above. I’m sure it’ll work.
April 6, 2018 at 1:17 PM
Resetting didn’t work so I called Keurig, explained the problem and guess what the problem was…the water! I use distilled water 💦 to fill the tank! Big no-no, tap water or purified water only! Who knew? It works perfect now…

My Kurig will not dispense if there is a k-cup. Without a k-cup it goes through cycle and dispenses hot water. With a k-cup nothing.
April 10, 2018 at 7:16 PM
John did you try resetting it?
April 18, 2018 at 12:58 PM
My Keurig machine will sometimes pump water out to the counter when it is suppose to be heating the water. Not good for hardwood floors. HELP please.
April 18, 2018 at 8:01 PM
Betty please first try to reset your Keurig and if the problem remains then try cleaning your machine using the method described above.
March 10, 2019 at 5:33 AM
Same problem. I will refill the tank, replace it to the machine. Some mornings I will go into the kitchen and find water all over the counter and under the machine. Source…I suspect the O ring on the reservoir coupled with a full tank. Today, the tank is almost empty and after three cups with no leakage, water everywhere when I went back to shut the machine down. I have a model B70 and have owned it for three years. Great unit except for this problem.
April 23, 2018 at 8:54 PM
Is it normal to have a foam ring on top of freshly made 10 oz cup of coffee? I received the machine from someone. I done a vinegar cleanse 1st.
April 23, 2018 at 10:52 PM
Yes it is Melanie.
June 23, 2018 at 8:58 PM
Elite model turns on and accepts pod and when I press the size cup I want it immediately shuts off? It is 2 months old. Any thoughts?
June 25, 2018 at 12:41 AM
I think it needs a resting. Try that if that doesn’t help then do let me know.
June 24, 2018 at 4:22 AM
My keurig shuts off when i press the brew button
June 25, 2018 at 12:40 AM
Betty did you try resetting your machine? I have explained the method above in my article please have a look and give it a try.
June 25, 2018 at 10:58 PM
My Keurig will try to make a cup of coffee, but after a bit of water comes out immediately after pressing the cup size button, it stops and will not brew–although it sounds like it is. I removed the check valve and soaked it in vinegar. After putting it back together, it worked so I descaled it with professional descaler. I made a cup of coffee and was proud of myself (prematurely). The next day it was bcak to the same problem. ???
June 26, 2018 at 1:11 AM
Thanks for sharing your experience Randall. Can you please try the procedure again and after that try resetting it before using.
June 28, 2018 at 9:29 PM
I’ve had several Keurigs and absolutely LOVE having a fresh coffee with each cup. Your article might have saved me many returns (good thing there’s a great return policy at Bed Bath and Beyond!) Right now we have a 2.0, not the carafe version. This new one dribbles more than any other, it took a bit of getting used to the longer wait. The biggest problem I wonder about it is this, it turns on and warms up for a few minutes. The first cup serves just fine. Then it warms up for about two minutes before we can start the second cup. Is this normal for this version? It definitely means my morning coffee ritual takes more attention than with any previous Keurigs.
June 29, 2018 at 1:08 AM
I think it’s a normal behavior with this version.
July 2, 2018 at 10:25 PM
I waned to descale my Keurig so I poured about 1/2 Cup into the water filled reservoir. I use spring water because the apartment water tastes stale. It’s worked for over a year no problems. As soon as I did that It did not work. When i turned it on the 3 green lights came on but did not blink. I pressed a selection but nothing happened and the lights stayed stationery. I plugged and unplugged with the same result.
July 3, 2018 at 9:01 AM
Tamara try descaling your keurig again and after that try resetting it before operating.

My Keurig Model SS-780PC Is acting strange. 1) It sounds like it’s always boiling water. 2) Display message says “not ready” 3) Can not turn off the machine. Even after unplugging, the machine, it comes back with same message.
July 24, 2018 at 12:32 AM
Gus you need to reset and descale your machine and see if it fixes the issue. I think it will.
July 28, 2018 at 12:29 AM
I was hoping to find a fix for my Keurig, but nothing here. The clock on my unit runs fast. I reset it, and it adds approximately 2 minutes each day. Any fixes?
July 29, 2018 at 12:09 PM
If resetting didn’t fix the issue Cyndi then you should contact the manufacturer for its maintenance.
July 30, 2018 at 7:04 PM
My Keurig is startling to put a big hole in the top of all K-Cups instead of the “pin-size” hole. This is making quite a mess. What causes this?
July 31, 2018 at 11:39 PM
SANDRA it needs maintenance.
August 2, 2018 at 6:26 AM
We’ve been using our 2.0 daily with no problems. As of this morning, however, we can’t lower the arm to start brewing. The arm is stuck in the fully raised position. I’ve inspected it closely and nothing seems to be keeping it from swinging back down. Have you ever heard of this problem before? Thanks. AJ
August 2, 2018 at 11:50 AM
AJ I think you need to contact your manufacturer because your machine needs a bit of maintenance.
August 10, 2018 at 5:11 PM
My Keurig is 2 weeks old and I’ve only used it 10 times. Yet every time I brew a cup I have large amounts of grounds in my cup. I have cleaned the needles and taken it apart and cleaned it. What else can I do?
August 11, 2018 at 11:48 PM
Yolanda if you still have the warranty then I would suggest to contact your seller.
August 18, 2018 at 12:44 AM

Noe try resetting the machine by using the instructions explained above.
August 28, 2018 at 2:32 AM
Shortly after replacing my filter on my Kuerig 2.0, the coffee when dripping into my cup has started to spray all over and not gone out in a steady stream. I have tried several different pods with the same problem. I have rechecked my filter and run clear water numerous times but still a problem. Any ideas??
August 30, 2018 at 12:28 AM
Linda did you try descaling your machine? I think it will work for you.
August 29, 2018 at 7:27 AM
My 2.0 just continuously dispenses cold water. As long as the reservoir has water, it’ll send it through. I’d be grateful for any suggestions!
August 30, 2018 at 12:29 AM
Michelle please try resetting your machine.
September 1, 2018 at 10:04 PM
My clock on my K-elite kept flashing after the set-up process per the Quick Set Up instructions and the hour on the clock would go back to 3 am. I unplugged it and then reset the clock. After going there the settings screens and returned to the clock, the clock was not flashing anymore and it displayed the correct time that I entered in the settings. I guess the trick is to unplug the device after set-up and redo the settings.
September 1, 2018 at 10:09 PM
Thanks Paul for sharing this piece of information. It’s really appreciated.
September 2, 2018 at 2:12 AM
We have a Keurig and the blue water light will not shut of even with full water tank.
September 3, 2018 at 7:36 PM
My K2 went nuts! It was off, but spontaneously started pouring hot water everywhere. I unplugged it, it kept pouring. Wouldn’t quit until I removed the reservoir. What do I do? I love my Keurig!
September 4, 2018 at 12:53 AM
Sue first apply the descaling process and then reset your machine.
September 4, 2018 at 5:48 AM
I’m still having trouble with my model K150. For some reason the cup size servings are smaller, like it starts to pour then cuts off early leaving half of the cup size you choose. Yes I tried vinegar, cycled it numerous times, cleaned the needle, and tank, and still the same problem. It still works, gets hot etc. But cup sizes are served smaller. (Example) 12oz, seems like 8oz, 10oz seems like 4oz. This just started happening after 4yrs of owning it with 0 issues. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you
September 5, 2018 at 12:24 AM
Rafael did you try resetting the machine and other descaling methods?
September 11, 2018 at 7:08 PM
The lid to close the unit will not go down with or without a k cup place in.. lid is stuck in the open position.
September 21, 2018 at 11:30 PM
I rescaled my machine using the Keurig product. After rescaling, I ran several (now over 10) clear water rinses. However, when I try to brew a mug of coffee, I get a curdled, undrinkable cup of yuck. I’ve driven to Starbucks for my AM coffee for the past several days, since I can’t get My Keurig to brew a drinkable cup of coffee. I’ve wasted at least a dozen K-pods. Can you help before I toss this in the garbage?
September 23, 2018 at 1:22 AM
Nancy try resetting it again and if it still shows the problems then go ahead with the later idea.
October 5, 2018 at 11:29 PM
I got a Keurig coffeemaker, from a goodwill store, and it doesn’t brew the big cup of coffee. I did the descaling with regular vinegar, and ran it w/o the the pod. It just won’t brew the 10 oz cup? What can I do to fix it. I cleaned the needle also.
October 8, 2018 at 2:10 AM
Are you sure your model can brew a big cup.
October 7, 2018 at 2:30 PM
Whenever I turn on my Keurig, the water comes out and won’t stop. I’ve turned it off, unplugged it, but nothing works.
October 8, 2018 at 2:09 AM
Pat did you try resetting and descaling it?
June 10, 2019 at 4:45 AM
Don’t despair, and keep trying to re-fix Your Keurig maker on Your own, b/c You may get as lucky as we did! I fixed ours with some of the ideas offered on the internet sites. Our Keurig maker is finally working again after messing around with it, off and on, for several hours this morning. I am not sure what finally made it work again ~ but we tried the following remedy step several times: turn it off, unplug it, empty and wash the water reservoir, let the maker sit 30 minutes “without” the reservoir attached. Then tip the maker upside down and give it a few hits with the heel of Your hand. Fill the water reservoir to the fill line w warm water and push the button at the bottom of it over the sink and let a bit of the water drain out. Then plug the maker back into a solid 3 prong socket, and hope that it finally says “preheating” v. “filling.” Let it preheat, then place the water reservoir back on.
October 27, 2018 at 9:14 PM
My Keurig brewed a brown cup of coffee. I immediately dumped it and tried again with a new k cup and it brewed a black cup. Strange. Anyone have any ideas?
October 31, 2018 at 11:57 AM
Gen! It sounds strange. I heard this first time ever 🙂
October 31, 2018 at 11:52 PM
I like these types of coffee pots. Just because you do not have to make a whole pot. In 3 minutes or less you have a great quick cup of coffee. But they do not last. My 1st machine my sister got me for Christmas 2 years ago $170. It stopped working after 1 year. Call tack support. My water was to hard and clogged it completely. No fixing the machine. So I go to our local Walmart and see the K35 machine for $49. So I buy that one. 3 months stopped brewing. Because discovering that my water was hard I put nothing in it other then bottle water. Walmart let me exchange it. Now 3 1/2 months later with only bottle water in it. Yes. It to has stopped brewing. With that being said 4 machines in 2 years. Not good. So today no coffee for me. And yes each time I troubleshoot each machine. Cleaned it once a month. Has anyone else had this much trouble with there machine? I just dont know if I should get another one.. please help!
November 2, 2018 at 9:36 PM
I have a Keurig 2.0 and it brews just fine, but after the cycle stops, water keeps dripping from the spout. Like it drips about a cup a day…after the cycle has stopped. Any ideas?
Hi Jenn! All that dripping would be extremly annoying. I am so sorry to hear you are dealing with this! My first suggestion would be to descale the machine to see if that helps. This is always the very first thing to try whenever these machines are having issues. If you have tried this and it is still giving you issues, please try the following: Turn off and unplug the machine. Remove the water reservoir. Turn the water reservoir upside down and give it a few shakes and taps on the bottom. Replace the water reservoir and attempt a brew cycle. Hopefully one or both of these tips will work for you! In the meantime, make sure to keep an empty cup under it to catch all that water! Good luck!
November 12, 2018 at 8:31 AM
This just started.. I noticed that prime came on my Keurig.. I fixed that problem, but now when I pull in my machine it displays not ready but water comes out and will not stop unless it’s unplugged. I have cleaned adjusted as I was told from reading off the internet. And nothing has worked! Any ideas? Please?
November 13, 2018 at 12:02 AM
Hi Melissa. It would be very upsetting to have water coming out of the machine and dripping all over the place! I am so sorry you are having this issue. You mentioned that you have cleaned the machine, but I want to make sure you have descaled it. This may fix the problem. If you have done that, there is one more possible fix. Please try the following: Turn off and unplug the machine. Remove the water reservoir. Turn the water reservoir upside down and give it a few shakes and taps on the bottom. Replace the water reservoir and attempt a brew cycle. Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you are still having problems.
November 18, 2018 at 8:20 PM
So aggravate with my keurig it’s new and it keeps stopping and won’t turn. On ready to throw it out the window 😠😠
November 19, 2018 at 11:26 AM
Hi Stacy Step away from the window and put down the Keurig. We’re here to help you 🙂 You may need to do a basic reset of the machine to fix this issue. This should allow it to start turning on again. Just follow these simple steps: Turn the machine off, if possible, and unplug it for several minutes. Plug the machine back in and try a brew cycle again. If the steps above do not work, try the following: Remove the water reservoir and then power the machine off and unplug. Allow the brewer to sit unplugged for a few minutes without the water reservoir attached. Plug your Keurig into it’s own designated outlet. Power the machine back on and then replace the reservoir. If the brew cycle was interrupted, opening and closing the K-cup holder resets the brew cycle. Hopefully this will work and if not then let us know 🙂
November 19, 2018 at 12:32 AM
Cleaned the screen on my Keurig K2.0 500. The power button quit working well. Takes forever pressing to turn on. Absolutely will not turn off. Seems to be a problem with that area of the screen as it will not take time correction input either which uses that same area to save. Everything else works fine . Had it almost a year but a gift so no purchase validation. Keurig “support” ran me through a litany of non-helpful advice (such as whether any other devices on the same outlets, or whether I’d descaled). Then offered me a “discount” to sell me a new one for the same price as on Amazon. Infuriating. Per the Internet, the problem with powering on and off is common. Appears either a design issue or a defect in manufacture of a part, like the touch screen. Should be lasting more than a year or two. Or else should be getting a real discount for folks with broken down pretty new units. My old Proctor-Silex percolator is decades old and still works fine. Just won’t do one cup. Now, my Keurig fights me for it.
November 22, 2018 at 11:41 AM
Hi Rick, This does look like a common issue and sounds very frustrating! There are a few YouTube videos about how to fix the screen that may help. I’m sure you have tried a basic reset, but in case you haven’t, here are the steps: Turn the machine off, if possible, and unplug it for several minutes. Plug the machine back in and try a brew cycle again. If the steps above do not work, try the following: 3 Remove the water reservoir and then power the machine off and unplug. Allow the brewer to sit unplugged for a few minutes without the water reservoir attached. Plug your Keurig into it’s own designated outlet. Power the machine back on and then replace the reservoir. Hopefully this will work and if not then let us know 🙂
November 24, 2018 at 3:16 AM
Our brew button doesn’t light up anymore and when you press it nothing happens. I’ve unplugged it and let it sit and I’ve cleaned it. We have a 2.0.
December 2, 2018 at 8:00 AM
My keurig 2.0 leaks all the water out from bottom when I press brew
December 31, 2018 at 7:37 PM
My Keurig is brewing extremely slow at the end of the cycle! When I run it on just hot water it does fine. I’ve cleaned everything from the needle to the tank! I’ve descaled it several times and it still does the same thing. What’s next?
January 1, 2019 at 5:08 AM
Lisa did you try resetting it?
January 15, 2019 at 10:00 PM
Is it normal for the Keurig to blow the electrical circuit fuse? Has anyone had this issue before? I called house maintenance and they said my kitchen breaker keeps blowing a fuse because of the Keurig machine. He basically blamed it on the machine instead of changing the electrical circuit breaker for the kitchen.
December 9, 2019 at 11:19 AM
I had the same thing happen. It wasn’t the keurig, it was the breaker. It was replaced and no more problems!
January 24, 2019 at 7:53 AM
I purchased a K elite back in December 2018 because my Classic stopped working after a little over 4 years. I had the K elite for 6 wks & returned it today after trying all of the fixes. Every time I tried to make a cup of coffee, water would leak underneath & go everywhere & the k cups were water logged after use as well. Frustrating.
I purchased another K elite today & the last one had a steady lit blue reservoir & I liked it as it helped me to see to fill it. The K elite I got today does not have steady blue reservoir. Bummer! Is it supposed to be continually lit or not? Also, I’ve owned a few Keurigs over the years & lost one because of using our well/tap water & was told by Keurig CS to always use distilled water. The elite says do not use distilled. I’m afraid to use our well water. Help please?
January 24, 2019 at 9:21 AM
Lory did you try reading the manual that came with your machine. I’m sure it will have instructions regarding that light.
February 9, 2019 at 2:34 AM
My Kerrigan 2.0 keeps saying Please Lower Handle. It is lowered all the way as normal. I have reset it with no avail. Is there a solution?
March 13, 2019 at 9:53 PM
Did you read the manual that comes with the machine? It must have instructions regarding the Lower handle.
December 15, 2019 at 7:52 AM
I just put my new Keurig together and it keeps telling to take out the shipping disk. It has been removed and it continues to say it. Please advise me what to do. Thank you in advance.
December 15, 2019 at 9:18 AM
Larenda can you please check if there’s no slip between the parts and everything is matted perfectly.
March 17, 2019 at 2:25 AM
I am embarrassed, but thank you. Machines & computers have been around long enough for an unplug/ reboot to be automatic. It wasn’t. I read, I tried, it worked!!!
My maker was not recognizing that a cup was in place & so would not continue the brew cycle. Happy coffee now.
March 17, 2019 at 3:45 PM
Thank you for your feedback Judy.
April 8, 2019 at 11:02 PM
I recently received the single serve mini plus as a gift. I also have the insert basket so I can use my own grounds. I have that figured out and brew with my own grounds. That works fine. Today I tried a k-cup for the first time. The water ran through and it was hot, but just water in my cup. It looks like there’s a hole in the top, but not the bottom of the k-cup. What am I doing wrong?
April 9, 2019 at 8:07 PM
Winnie please see if you can find a tutorial regarding the usage of the same model.
April 13, 2019 at 9:47 PM
When I brew, the water is drained from the reservoir, heated and poured back into the reservoir through the soft vent at the top of the machine. Tried reaching out to customer service twice with no help.
November 17, 2019 at 1:53 PM
Mine Keurig also pours hot water back into reservoir and sometimes cold water on the counter. Is this a problem descaling and resetting will fix? I have not used it very much. Only when company comes.
November 19, 2019 at 2:56 PM
Pam can you try the descaling and resetting it. I’m confident it will solve your problem. If not, then do let us know here in comments.
May 9, 2019 at 10:19 PM

June 11, 2019 at 4:40 AM
I have one for you, I put 1/2 & 1/2 in the coffee and sometimes it curdles, try diff. brand and still does it, use reg. milk and it’s fine ? It appears the water is too hot. I know it will do it after descaling if you don’t rinse it good, but it will be making good coffee and then stated it. Did it more then once. Anyone had the same problem?
June 25, 2019 at 2:54 AM
Recently our machine turns off while brewing? It gives just a few dribbles of coffee prior to shuting down… But if I don’t use a KCup and just run water it works perfectly and suggestions?
June 25, 2019 at 5:39 PM
Ashlee please try to clean and descale your machine. I think it will work.
July 2, 2019 at 7:55 PM
I have not found my problem discussed yet. My K45 will come on but the red preheat light never goes out, so the brewing options are never available. I have reset, and tried preheating the water, but no luck yet. Sounds like a heater or pump issue. May be terminal. Suggestions?
July 16, 2019 at 9:49 AM
I just got a K-elite to replace one that had a screen that went blank all he time. The coffee from the new one is very weak and the strong button doesn’t seem to make a difference. Any suggestions?
July 17, 2019 at 1:46 PM
Did you try using a different coffee?
September 16, 2019 at 6:42 PM

I have a friend who was diagnosed by the Dr that she was getting sick from using mher kuerig It tested for mold and bacteria I have heard this from others that there is a filter or something that you can’t clean in the bottom of the machine. I know my friend de scaled and cleaned her machine all the time and she still got sick from it Can you take the 4 screws out of the bottom and not ruin the machine?
December 1, 2019 at 5:15 AM
Jean I don’t think so this will be the case for your friend getting sick.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Tried to reset it, but it didn’t work.
February 10, 2020 at 9:06 PM
I just purchased the K Duo Plus Kerrigan model. It included a filter in a sealed plastic envelope. I can not find where to place it in the unit, in the quick start guide. Any instruction given would be very much appreciated.
August 21, 2021 at 1:13 AM
The filter goes into the clear plastic filter handle which seats into the water reservoir.
March 30, 2020 at 10:22 AM
I just bought a new Keurig because mine stop working , no coffee. Got the new unit unpacked it and tested it worked great. I was about to throw the old unit out but wanted to try 1 more time. I had taken the reservoir off and removed the filter. The machine worked perfectly, the only problem I had was a clogged filter. Can’t take the new one back but learned a new lesson.
June 6, 2020 at 7:45 AM
My Kerrigan 2.0 keeps saying “Please Lower Handle” and does not go to the normal menu. It is lowered all the way as normal. Is there a solution?
June 20, 2020 at 9:11 AM
I have a new Keurig K-Duo Essentials machine that is less than 5months old. All 5 buttons are lit up & the machine will not work. After paying $120 , I’m very disappointed to say the least. How do I fix this issue ?
June 20, 2020 at 11:33 AM
Tamara did you try resetting and descaling your machine?
September 6, 2020 at 4:58 AM
Hi, I have a Keurig Duo where the heating plate for the 12 cup carafe is no longer working.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and any suggestions other than calling for a new one? I’d hate to throw this out if there is something simple to do to fix it
October 8, 2020 at 5:01 AM
I have a K-Mini single serve model which I purchased approximately 6-7 months ago. Lately it has started making noises for several minutes after each use and just this morning it started making noises even though it was not in use.
Any ideas as to what the issue is?
October 12, 2020 at 4:14 AM
Hey Beverly, I think you might want to clean the needle or descaling your machine for this. I am hopeful this will resolve the issue. Sometimes it appears due to some clogging in the machine.

my keurig will not dispense enough water on 12 ounce setting it only dispenses about half it,s only about 6 months old
November 4, 2020 at 10:12 AM
Hello Jack, please try to reset your machine to it’s default settings. I hope this will solve your problem. The instructions to reset your machine are explained in our post.
November 10, 2020 at 11:56 AM
There is ONE glaring drawback that almost negates any pros….when you turn it on, the warm up cycle pumps out about a tablespoon of water on PURPOSE. Very inconvenient…especially if the drip tray is missing because a travel mug was last used. Not sure if other models do this, but I would NOT have bought had I known this.

we are on number 4 of the keurig slim machine. they keep powering out. they last bewtween 2 days and two weeks. we had to pay for an electrician to come and check out plug ins as we thought this was craziness. our plugs are all ok!!! Walmart has been excellent when i am returning them. but i am getting tired of doing this. we had an older model prior to this that we had for about 10 years!! it worked wonderfully. when it finally died we switched to this model thinking it would be ok. called company they are supposed to be sending new machine! we shall see. in the meantime back to using my old fashion perk😀
