A lot of excellent picture books are releasing in 2021, from books that celebrate identity to ones that address the COVID-19 pandemic to silly books about poop. There’s a picture book for every type of reader, and I had trouble picking only 25. I’m especially happy to see the number of #OwnVoices children’s books being released this year that celebrate identity. However, there could still be more, especially books with disabled characters and Native American characters.

As a parent, I know how boring it can get to read the same books again and again, and I crave new picture books to share and enjoy with my daughter. While rereading is developmentally important , there’s no reason not to freshen up the bookshelves with new, inclusive books that tell fun stories, and these 25 picture books from 2021 are my favorites. I’ve listed them in order of publication.

25 Picture Books From 2021

Cover of The Boy Who Loved Everyone by Porter

The Boy Who Loved Everyone by Jane Porter and Maisie Paradise Shearring

It’s the first day of preschool, and excited little Dimitri can’t wait to hug everyone and tell them how much he loves them. But when the other classmates in pre-k don’t return his affections, he becomes sad and doesn’t want to return to pre-K. His mother tells him that everyone shows their love differently, and on their walk to school that morning, she shows him how feeding the cats and birds is an act of love and waving hello and smiling at a friend. Not everyone wants a hug, and people show their love differently. At school that day, Dimitri sees love everywhere. This is such a tender and sweet picture book.

Outside, Inside by LeUyen Pham

This stunning picture book captures the moment the world went from outside (pre-pandemic) to inside (post-pandemic). The illustrations follow a black cat as it explores the world after the pandemic, from empty streets to busy hospital staff to zoom classes and phone calls with family. It’s about waiting, and growing while we wait, and eventually reuniting with loved ones. Of all the books published about the COVID-19 pandemic, this is my favorite. It will make you cry but also fill you with hope, and for my 3-year-old, there’s a cat, so she’s all over reading it.

Cover of Eyes that Kiss in the Corners by Ho

Eyes That Kiss in the Corners by Joanna Ho and Dung Ho

Eyes That Kiss in the Corners is a gorgeous and lyrical statement of self-love that celebrates Asian-shaped eyes and family heritage. “I have eyes that kiss in the corners and glow like warm tea,” the child narrator says, just like her mama, amah, and little sister Mei-Mei. The expressiveness in the prose is matched in the illustrations, which depict the glowing happiness of the narrator and her family. The entire book is a work of art, from the vibrant and colorful illustrations to the joyous and poetic prose.

Cover of Off to See the Sea by Grimes

Off to See the Sea by Nikki Grimes and Elizabeth Zunon

The inimitable poet Nikki Grimes pairs up once more with the equally excellent illustrator Elizabeth Zunon in Off to See the Sea , which features the same child as Bedtime for Sweet Creatures . This time, instead of procrastinating about bedtime, the child hides from imminent bathtime, but once in the water, the child has a blast. This fun and whimsical picture book is an excellent read-aloud, and kids will enjoy it whether or not they enjoy bathtime.

Cover of Jump at the Sun by Williams

Jump at the Sun by Alicia D. Williams and Jacqueline Alcántara

This picture book biography of Zora Neale Hurston depicts her life from childhood telling tall tales to her family to her adulthood writing them. Her mother encouraged her to jump for the sun, and author Alicia D. Williams uses that metaphor to show Zora jumping through the steps to becoming an author. The illustrations are vibrant and lovely, and this is one of the best picture book biographies I’ve read.

Cover of Don't Hug Doug by Finison

Don’t Hug Doug: (He Doesn’t Like It) by Carrie Finison and Daniel Wiseman

This is an adorable and essential picture book about consent. Doug doesn’t like hugs, but that doesn’t mean he dislikes you. Doug explains about consent in catchy, direct prose and the bright, simple illustrations are extremely kid friendly. It’s a fantastic book to read aloud and discuss. This picture book will probably be as helpful for adults as it is for children. Ask before hugging!

Cover of A Small Kindness by McAnulty

A Small Kindness by Stacy McAnulty and Wendy Leach

A classroom is transformed by small acts of kindness in this simple, sweet, and cleverly illustrated picture book. At the beginning of the book, Wendy Leach illustrates the school and its students in monochromatic shades, but as the book progresses and each student acts kindly toward another, she slowly transforms the students and the school by adding color. By the end of the book, all of the students and the school are in full color. This is such a striking way to capture how simple, kind gestures can spread.

Cover of The Midnight Fair by Sterer

The Midnight Fair by Gideon Sterer and Mariachiara Di Giorgio

This stunningly illustrated wordless picture book depicts a fair at night. Forest creatures sneak into the fair once the humans are away and ride the carousel, eat cotton candy, and go for a spin on a roller coaster. The dark and vivid illustrations create a hidden and magical world where animals intersect with the human world. Children will love the whimsical and imaginative story the illustrators create.

Cover of I am a Bird by Lim

I am a Bird by Hope Lim and Hyewon Yum

A little girl takes a bike ride to school with her daddy every morning and pretends she’s a bird. Their path intersects with a stern older woman, who never smiles at the little girl. As the days pass, and the woman continues to never smile at the girl’s bird song, the girl begins to feel less like a bird and stops cawing. Then one morning, she and her daddy are running late, and they spot the woman in the park, feeding the birds and speaking to them. The little girl realizes they’re both birds, and she begins cawing again. This is a delightful read, from the simple and sweet story to the brightly detailed and beautiful color pencil illustrations.

Cover of Standing on her Shoulders by Clark-Robinson

Standing on Her Shoulders by Monica Clark-Robinson and Laura Freeman

Standing on Her Shoulders is a poetic ode to the women who have paved the way for other women, from our mothers and grandmothers to political leaders and artistic legends. The back of the book contains mini-biographies of the women from the story, and the vivid illustrations are beautiful. This is the kind of book readers will want to hang on to as a keepsake, as well as read and gift to all the young girls in their life.

Cover of Sam's First Word by Birdsong

Sam’s First Word by Bea Birdsong and Holly Hatam

Sam can do many things, but she has yet to say her first word. Friends and family encourage her to speak their name as her first word, but instead of “Nana” or “Mama” or “Mr. Theotopolous,” Sam says “Poop.” That’s right, poop. This book is HILARIOUS. It gets big belly laughs from my 3-year-old. The bright illustrations with a cute little pup and big-eyed characters are as playful and engaging as the text.

Arno and His Horse by Jane Godwin and Felicita Sala (Scribble; March 2)

Arno has a very special horse carved by his grandfather that he brings everywhere. When he loses the horse, all the children in the town help him look for it, but they can’t find it anywhere. That night, Arno dreams of his grandfather and how he used to ride horses before he became too ill, and the dream reminds him of where he’d lost the carved horse. This is such a sweet story about the special bond many children form with an object and the special bond between a grandfather and a grandchild. The rich illustrations are as lovely as the story.

Cover of Zonia's Rain Forest by Martinez-Neal

Zonia’s Rain Forest by Juana Martinez-Neal (Candlewick; March 30)

This vibrant and gorgeously illustrated picture book by award-winning illustrator Juana Martinez-Neal tells the story of Zonia’s — an Asháninka girl — joyful play in her Peruvian rain forest home. She greets a sloth family, says hello to an anteater, and chases a jaguar. But then she finds an area where the rain forest’s trees have all been cut down, and she runs home to her mama, scared. How can she help the rain forest?

Cover of Too Crowded by Podesta

Too Crowded by Lena Podesta (Sourcebooks; April 6)

This hilarious picture book is about a goldfish whose tank is too crowded, so the fish decides to find a more spacious home. A bird’s nest is too noisy, and the cat’s house is too dangerous. Then the goldfish meets a turtle who lets the fish know it has to live in the water. Suddenly, the fish realizes it can’t breathe! In the end, the fish realizes it didn’t need a bigger home but a friend to share it with. This is such a fun book to read to little ones. The art and illustrations are bold and colorful, and the text print is a great size for little readers.

Cover of What Happened to You? by Catchpole

What Happened to YOU? by James Catchpole and Karen George (Faber & Faber; April 6)

Joe is playing pirates. He’s also being bothered by all the other children, who keep asking him, “What happened to you?” because Joe has one leg. But Joe doesn’t want to tell that story, he wants to play, and once the children realize how much fun Joe’s game could be, they all join in and play pirates. This is an adorably illustrated picture book with such an important story. Disabled kids and adults don’t need to explain their disability to anyone, and non-disabled folk need to accept that, and in doing so, they may find a friend that’s a lot of fun to play with. This is an #OwnVoices story based on the author’s childhood.

Cover of Hello, Rain! by MacLear

Hello, Rain! by Kyo MacLear and Chris Turnham (Chronicle; April 13)

This picture book is a lyrical and playful ode to rain showers with rhythmic prose that drip drops from the tongue like raindrops. A little girl and her dog watch the rain from a window, then get ready to splash and play and get thoroughly soaked in the deluge outside. The bold illustrations perfectly capture the girl’s joy and the feeling of a rain shower and the wet natural wonders it leaves behind. This is a blast to read for every child and adult who sees a puddle and simply must splash in it.

Cover of We Are Still Here by Sorrell

We Are Still Here by Traci Sorell and Frane Lessac (Charlesbridge; April 20)

This companion book to We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga describes important moments in Native American history that are too often skipped in the classroom, from the Indian New Deal to forced assimilation and tribal activism. After each section, author Traci Sorrell writes, “We are still here,” a refrain that reminds readers that Native Americans have both an important history and an important present. While this book is a little denser than other books on this list, younger children will enjoy its colorful illustrations, and it’s an important book to read.

Cover of Wren by Lehman

Wren by Katrina Lehman and Sophie Beer (Scribble; May 4)

Wren does not like noise. Unfortunately for Wren, he has five siblings, and one of them is a newborn. Desperate for some quiet, Wren moves in with his grandparents in the country, and while at first, he enjoys the quiet, he misses his family, even his noisy baby sister. A surprise awaits him when he comes back home, for his extremely fussy baby sister quiets right down when held by her quiet and calm older brother. Lehman’s story is so sweet and realistic and often funny, and Beer’s detailed illustrations can provide endless enjoyment for children. There’s always something fun to look at in the background, and everyone’s expressions, including the baby’s, are so on point.

Wishes by Van

Wishes by Mượn Thị Văn and Victo Ngai (Orchard; May 4)

Inspired by real events in author Mượn Thị Văn’s life, Wishes tells the story of a Vietnamese family journeying to a new country from a little girl’s perspective. The simple, lyrical prose paired with Victo Ngai’s stunning and intricate illustrations create a memorable story of hope and survival. I suspect this picture book will win some awards.

Cover of Line and Scribble by Vogrig

Line and Scribble by Debora Vogrig and Pia Valentinis (Chronicle; May 11)

This innovative picture book juxtaposes Line’s orderly illustrations with Scribble’s wild meanderings. Line “goes straight on her way” while Scribble “wanders.” I love the simple and direct black lines with pops of red. The playful art and prose make this a pleasure to read for both children and adults.

Cover of Pride Puppy by Stevenson

Pride Puppy by Robin Stevenson and Julie McLaughlin (Orca; May 11)

This rhyming alphabet book features an intentionally non-gendered family going to a Pride Day celebration with their doggy, who runs away. As they look all around for their excited and mischievous dog, they see all sorts of people and fun activities. The inclusive illustrations are vibrant and fun, with lots of things for young children to engage with in the background, like a sloth on a school bus for the letter S. The rhyming text makes it a super fun read-aloud.

Cover of We All Play by Flett

We All Play by Julie Flett (Greystone; May 25)

This gorgeous and simple picture book depicts animals at play, from a snake slipping and slithering through the grass to a baby bear wiggling and wobbling, and in between children play: “We play too! / kimêtawânaw mîna.” Flett uses Cree and English every time the children play, and the back of the book has a Cree glossary of animal names. The bold and simple illustrations and short but dynamic text make this a fantastic book for very young readers.

Cover of Bodies are Cool by Feder

Bodies Are Cool By Tyler Feder (Dial Books; June 1)

Tyler Feder follows up her graphic memoir Dancing at the Pity Party with this rhythmic celebration of all types of bodies: “Freckled bodies, dotted bodies, rosy-patched or speckled bodies, dark-skin-swirled-with-light-skin bodies, bodies are cool!” The illustrations are an absolute joy, depicting all different body types, skin colors, abilities, and ages. Kids will love the sing-song prose, and adults will enjoy reading it aloud. I can’t wait to pick up my own copy of this inclusive and delightful picture book.

Cover of Poem in My Pocket by Tougas

Poem in My Pocket by Chris Tougas and Josée Bisaillon (Kids Can Press; June 1)

A child writes the perfect poem and sticks it in her pocket. But when the pocket rips, the words from her poem scatter everywhere, creating new poems and phrases and words scattered everywhere for her to find. This lyrical celebration of poetry is a perfect book for aspiring young poets. The vivid illustrations capture the frantic word search and have lots of fun things in the background for children to find, like a chicken riding a scooter.

Cover of Aaron Slater, Illustrator by Beaty

Aaron Slater, Illustrator by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts (Abrams Books for Young Readers; November 2)

A new Questioneers picture book! These picture books are fantastic read-alouds featuring children from the same classroom with big aspirations. Aaron Slater wants to write stories one day, but he struggles with reading and writing. All the words look like squiggles to him. He worries he’ll never be able to tell stories, but then inspiration hits. The blurb doesn’t tell me what that inspiration is, but I’m hazarding a guess that he realizes he can tell stories through his illustrations. I love this book series and can’t wait to add this one to our collection.

Top 10 Cinderella Stories Picture Books

Interstellar Cinderella

The tale of Cinderella spans time and place. While many readers are probably familiar with Walt Disney's version of the story as told through film, there are as many different versions of Cinderella as there are cultures and times. Popular culture is, unfortunately, perhaps more aware of different versions of Cinderella movies (think Ever After, A Cinderella Story, Into the Woods, etc.) than they are of different versions of Cinderella books. We've created this ultimate list of the best Cinderella books for kids to include Cinderella adaptations from a host of cultures as well as fractured fairy tales of this beloved tale from the modern era. Some Cinderella stories enchant with their stunning illustrations as in the version by Kinuko Y. Craft. Other Cinderella adaptations nudge open the door to understanding another culture, like "Adelita: A Mexican Cinderella Story". Still other Cinderella fractured fairy tales, such as "Seriously, Cinderella is SO Annoying!: The Story of Cinderella as Told by the Wicked Stepmother," remind us to see things from other perspectives. This list includes books to appeal to readers ages 0 to 10 and beyond, from board to picture to chapter books. Board books are best for the littlest readers ages 0 to 3. Picture books are intriguing for all ages, but geared towards ages 2 to 6. Chapter books are generally for readers ages 6 to 12 and will include middle-grade fairy tale retellings such as "Ella Enchanted". 30 Inspiring Picture Books About Writing a Story

This post may contain affiliate links.

Teachers and parents,  use these  picture books  as  mentor texts  to show kids the process of writing a story. Read about getting ideas for stories, and the storytelling/story writing process, including story elements.

Some of these books show how writers get ideas.

Others show the challenges of plotting and drafting the words in a story.

All are about a part of the storytelling process and make for helpful mentor texts. Because kids need plenty of examples to encourage them as they develop their own storytelling abilities.

writing a story mentor text picture books

Look for mentor texts that meet your children where they are. In other words, what are your children or students struggling with currently? Is it finding ideas? Start there. Maybe it’s facing the challenges that come with writing a story draft.

I’ve divided this book list into three parts:

  • Finding an Idea
  • Plotting and Drafting
  • The Writer’s Life / Getting Published

Writing isn’t easy. Many of these books show that the struggle of writing is OK and part of the creative process. (And sometimes funny!)

Violet and Victor Write The Best-Ever Bookworm Book by Alice Kuipers, illustrated by Bethanie Deeney Murguia Violet Small wants to write the best-ever book with help from her twin brother Victor Small who would rather count his pet worms. But, through brainstorming of the bickering kind and some cooperation, the two invent a suspenseful adventure about a book-eating bookworm. The illustrations are eye-catching, too – mixed media and pencil sketches. I love how the twins each have their own color ink and own color notebook paper for the story. This is a fantastic story about the creative process.

Look! I Wrote a Book! (And You Can Too) by Sally Loyd Jones, illustrated by Neal Layton A little girl with a big personality narrates the basics of writing a story from coming up with an idea to knowing your audience, thinking of titles, problems and solutions, endings, revising, and publishing including an author section, drawings, and cover art. Picture Books Showing the Writer’s Life & Getting Published

My Worst Book Ever!  by Allan Ahlberg, illustrated by Bruce Ingman We adore this delightful story all about the picture book author experience. Allan narrates his process of sitting in his shed, thinking up, and writing a story. But he’s thwarted by one thing after another — a coffee spill, a family vacation, paper-eating snails, an uncooperative illustrator, messy kids, and the printer’s niece called Lucy. It turns out to be his worst book ever! It’s so charming, you’ll want to be a picture book author yourself.

How This Book Was Made  by Mac Barnett, illustrated by Adam Rex I love this humorous account shared by the author and illustrator about their amazing (and slightly unusual!?) process of writing a story and publishing a book. It goes something like this: getting an idea, writing lots of drafts, arguing with an editor, playing cards with a tiger, waiting forever for the illustrations, growing a long beard, printing the book in a huge pile which could be seen from space by ice-cream eating astronauts, sending books on a ship captured by pirates who don’t read, delivering books to places everywhere, and then the most important part — the waiting . . . the long waiting for someone to open a book. Because what’s a book without a reader?  Read more in  my interview with Mac and Adam .

The Whisper  by Pamela Zagarenski The little girl can’t wait to read her teacher’s magical book of stories. Only when she gets home, there are no stories, just pictures. The wind whispers, “ You can imagine the words. You can imagine the stories. . .  ” and so the little girl does, finding her inner storyteller. Not only is this story rich with the power of imagination, but the illustrations also evoke stories within stories. Use this mentor text picture book for writing a story — it’s marvelous!

Once Upon a Zzzz  by Maddie Frost Once upon a time, the author took a nap so the illustrator decided to write the story. It’s a story about a llama princess and her little Penguin sister who wished on a star that her older sister would be sent to the moon. As Princess Penguin tries to sleep, she realizes that she’s terrified without her big sister. Lucky for the illustrator, the author wakes up in time to help Princess Penguin rescue Princess Llama.

I Am a Story  by Dan Yaccarino This informative picture book describes the history of stories: oral tellings around campfires, paintings on cave walls, weavings into tapestries, printings, and more. For me, the writing is a bit too dry but I like that it exemplifies how stories connect us and endure throughout time.

It’s about a young writer who gets new colored pencils that inspire her to write and illustrate a story. As it continues, we see her discussing the plotting with her cat — it’s such a great example of the story writing process!! LOVE! Also see:  The Big Wet Balloon  by Liniers.

The article was rather catching and interesting enough to get all possible nuances to remember. I do get pleasure from reading the content and the writing mode of the author, etc as I did when found http://www.onlinetutorforme.com/history-tutor/ . I suggest you write such sorts of articles every day to give the audience like me all the essential information. In my view, it is better to be prepared for all the unexpected situations in advance, so thanks, it was pretty cool.

How can a self-published author of a children’s book get someone like you to review their book?

HOW TO WRITE STORY BOOKS WITH PICTURES

What makes a good story book with pictures.

A storybook with pictures is a very unique type of book. The best ones are a perfect symbiosis of words and pictures, each element supporting, furthering, or deepening the story in some way. Storybooks with pictures are mostly for children. Pictures help children understand what they are reading and allow young readers to analyze the story. Picture books help develop story sense. They are multi-sensory, which aids a child’s growing mind and stimulates their imagination

The best picture books have several key elements:

What Makes a Good Story Book With Pictures

  • A unique story . A unique story or a unique take on a familiar theme is what often gets an editor’s or agent’s attention.
  • The text and illustrations work together to tell the story : For a writer, this means looking at every sentence, every phrase, and asking if it can be better served in an illustration.
  • Illustrations that are colorful, varied, and full of movement:    Successful picture books surprise the reader by the art on the next page — whether it’s by using an unexpected image for humor, or using a different perspective, or using mixed media in ways artists haven’t done before, etc.
  • Lovable, identifiable characters:   Kids read picture books to see other kids (or kid-friendly characters) accomplish big things.
  • Universal appeal:  The book carrying a universal appeal will connect more with the readers.
  • Humor.  Funny picture books that take a new/unique look at something old do wonderfully well.
  • Pattern and/or repetition:  Some books are successful because of a refrain that kids like to hear repeated.
  • Re-readability: Because picture books have to be read to the child by the parent and children tend to want the same book read to them over and over again. Part of re-readability is the visual interest in the illustrations, which is why an illustrator will put a small visual subplot for readers to notice perhaps on their second or third reading. The other part of re-readability comes from some of the elements above — either a refrain, or humor, or wordplay.

How to Write Story Books with Pictures?

How to Write Story Books with Pictures

It might be tempting to think that writing a children’s picture book is easier than writing a full-length novel. However, a picture book requires all the same major storytelling elements that a novel does just in a much smaller space.

  • Come up with your idea: Successful picture books are the ones that strike the right balance between appealing to two different audiences: while a picture book is intended for children, it’s ultimately the parents who decide whether or not to buy it — or to read it aloud. Luckily, coming up with an idea for your picture book is essentially the same as coming up with an idea for any book, for any age category. It’s how you present that idea that will differ.
  • Identify your reading category: Picture book reading categories, including reading ages, word count, and examples as mentioned before, the way you tell your story should depend on the intended reading age of your children’s picture book . This includes everything from illustrations and marketing, to almost every other aspect of your book.
  • Work out your narrative voice: Even though many kids can read to themselves by the time they’ve graduated to the picture book and early reader categories, all books that rely heavily on illustrations are often still read aloud. That’s why rhyming in children’s books is pretty common — it creates a fun and engaging vocal storytelling experience. Besides prose that sounds good out loud, there are several other factors to keep in mind regarding the narrative style of your picture book:
  • Vocabulary: It is important to tailor the vocabulary of your picture book to the age range of your readers.
  • Repetition: The use of repetition allows children to anticipate what the next word or sentence of a story might be, encouraging them to participate in the act of reading and following along.
  • Rhyming: As with repetition, rhyming can help children anticipate upcoming elements in a story. It can also contribute to a more fun, memorable reading experience.

view

  • Point of view: Deciding what POV you want to use is a big decision when it comes to how to write a children’s picture book, and all of them have their strong suits, depending on the story you’re telling.
  • Develop engaging characters: Writing a picture book is an opportunity to scale back the work that goes into creating realistic, well-rounded characters with their motivations, struggles, strengths, and weaknesses. Yes, you’re telling a story with far fewer words than a novel , and you have the benefit of using illustrations to help convey meaning, but your characters should still feel like real people.
  • The show, don’t tell: A piece of advice extended to all authors, “show, don’t tell” actually puts picture book writers at an advantage because of the illustrations that accompany their books! And you should rely on your illustrations to convey things to readers, allowing you to save your limited word count for other things. Of course, the concept of “showing” by employing sensory details in your writing still applies to children’s picture books, too.
  • Edit and seek feedback: Every word needs to count in a book with so few words. So the first step of your editing process should be to go through your book line by line, and for each one consider: is this line crucial for my story? If the answer is yes, carry on. If it’s no, remove it. Once you’ve gotten your manuscript as polished as you can, it’s time to seek out feedback from the most honest beta readers out there: children! Finally, if you want to be sure that your picture book is ready to capture the imaginations of young readers, consider working with a professional editor.
  • Illustrate your picture book: If you’re hoping to have your book traditionally published, you can skip this step and go straight to the next. Now, if you’re planning to self-publish your children’s picture book, you will want to hire a professional artist to do the illustrations.

How Do You Begin a Story Book?

How Do You Begin a Story Book

A picture book needs to start somewhere significant, build up the tension, resolve the conflict and come to an unexpected climax, and end with a reassuring touch. It needs to tell the story in as few words as possible. The illustrations do tell the rest of the story . The first sentence becomes very important. Looking through some of the older picture books , first lines are not always on a page-turn. But they still carry a bigger responsibility than the subsequent lines.

  • Introducing the character: Some opening sentences introduce the character and the setting of the character, giving no hint about what the story is about. But the images that accompany the words, the choice of words can give you hints – on what is about to transpire.
  • Introducing suspense: Some famous writers’ first sentences do tell you who the character is. But the lines do not tell you what is about to come. They lull you into a reassuring comfort that everything is alright at this moment. But you turn the page and you are jerked into something fun, imaginative, or even sinister.
  • Begin an adventure: Every adventure has got to begin somewhere. Adventures need triggers, something that hints at the events to come. When you read these lines, you know that you are going to find the protagonist set off on a journey of fun, chaos, and more. The adventure can be simply in the high street or it can be in castles, dungeons, and even in outer space. The important thing is to start the story off, with that clue.

How Do You End A Story Book?

How Do You End A Story Book

Turn things around:  Picture book endings often include a little wink to the reader. It’s a line that leaves you wanting more.

  • Analytically read picture books: Think about the endings of the books you read. Did you like it? Did you not like it? What worked? Why did it work? Why didn’t it work so well? Endings can be ‘Happily ever after’ endings that leave a warm fuzzy feeling. These often work well for cozy bedtime stories but be careful that they’re not overly sentimental. Likewise, with moral or ‘lesson’ endings – make sure the message is subtle.
  • Consider using the endpapers: Increasingly, picture book illustrators are using endpapers to set up and resolve stories. Ben Mantle used endpapers in our book  Little Red Riding Hood  to make the reader consider what Wolf’s next story could be.
  • Center stage and spotlights: For our end, we will want to make sure that our main character takes center stage. It’s the main character the little readers have come to know and love, so it should be this character that brings the story to a close. That’s what will ultimately help you make your story feel complete to the reader.
  • Your message & purpose: Weaving our book’s message or purpose into the ending will make our story feel complete like it has come full circle. Not only will it satisfy our little readers, but also the grownups that are reading this book with or to their children.

How to Publish Story Books?

How Do You Get Your Book Published

  • Have an approved manuscript: You can’t have a book without a story! It took me 30 drafts to get the story right, but once I had an approved version, I was able to move forward. (Picture books have very few words so it’s important to make every word count! Don’t be afraid of editing your own story multiple times to get it right.)
  • Find the illustrator: An author usually needs someone else to draw the images for the book for me. If you’re working with a publishing house , they will find the illustrator for you. However, if you’re creating your book, then you’ll need to find an illustrator that fits the story.
  • Approve the cover design & dummy layout: After the illustrator has had time to play with the story, it’s time to approve the layout so they can begin to finalize the art. One of the first things we want to be finalized is the cover so the marketing team has time to promote the book while the rest of the final artwork is being completed.
  • Book marketing begins: Even before the book is finalized, the marketing team has started to promote it. This normally starts with cover reveals and sneak peeks, and eventually, branches into interviews and press releases. No matter if you’re publishing your book yourself or working with a publisher , you’re most likely going to need to help market your book.
  • The book is finalized:  Once the illustrator has finished all the artwork, then the text is arranged on the pages. This is also when pages like the copyright, dedication, and about the author/illustrator are decided. It’s time to lay everything out perfectly so you can officially publish your picture book.
  • It’s sent to the printers: One may go through many digital files and multiple hardcover samples to make sure everything is exactly the way we want them. But once the files are approved, it’s time to publish.
  • Launch the book:  The book launch requires a lot of planning. You need to decide when, where, and how you want to do things. Just remember to have fun and celebrate!! Your book just came out.

Alexandra Tanner's debut novel centers two sisters in their 20s struggling with the love, anxieties and truths that they hold about each other.

Your 20s are often painted as the greatest decade, but what's less talked about is how brutal those years can also be. There is pressure to declare who we are, uncertainty about what that even means, and confusion about what we want.

That is the case for two sisters in their 20s at the center of Alexandra Tanner's debut novel, Worry . Jules and Poppy Gold end up becoming roommates in New York City, and they torture each other with their anxieties, despair and truths. It's a portrait of sisterly love that's both hilarious and disturbing.

A former nun explains why she ran away from her 'cloistered' life.

Tanner spoke to All Things Considered host Ailsa Chang about how she tried to capture the complexities of the decade and sisterhood in this book.

This interview has been lightly edited for length and clarity.

Ailsa Chang: So can we just first talk about the 20s? Like, what is it about that decade that makes it so painful? You just finished the decade, right?

Alexandra Tanner: Yes. I'm in my early 30s now and very glad to be done with my 20s forever. I think they're this just super pressurized time where you feel like, you know, your early 20s, you're on your own for the first time, you're out of college, you feel like, "Here I am, I've arrived in my life." But often you haven't arrived in your life and you don't know who you are and you're still a child, really.

Chang: In the middle of this existential dread that is the 20s are your characters Jules and Poppy. And let's just talk about the relationship between these two sisters. I mean, it's loving, but it's so messed up. It made me wonder: Were you writing from personal experience there? Do you have a sister?

Tanner: I have a younger sibling. They're non-binary and trans, and they are my favorite person in the entire world. But sometimes a sibling relationship is quite diabolical. It's a very unique relationship in that it's someone you love so intensely and know so well – you think. There's this huge gulf between what you [think you know] of your sibling and what you actually know of your sibling. So I think the core of the novel is the horror of realizing that your sister is a part of you and the bigger horror of realizing your sister is separate from you.

The cover of the novel Worry.

Chang: Well, even though we're talking about the viciousness between these two sisters, it really, for me, was the mother in this book who was the most cruel. Like, you depict a particularly vicious woman who calls her daughter the disappointment of her life. You also, I noticed, write about these other annoying mommy bloggers out there, and all of that got me thinking: How do you feel about motherhood, Alexandra?

Tanner: I mean, I wrote 300 pages about it and I still can't quite figure it out. And I think that, you know, in the writing of the novel, I kind of endeavored to have the relationship Jules and Poppy have with their mother, which I think it mirrors the relationship they have with each other, and that it's a relationship of deep emotional extremes, deep boundaryless-ness. And that's the thing about family, right? You can say anything to them and they're the people who are always going to be with you.

Chang: You hope.

Tanner: You hope. But there's a huge responsibility in that to recognize that you have to treat other people with care. And that saying something like, "You are the disappointment of my life," in a moment of deep emotional stress, they're going to remember that for the rest of their lives. That's not a statement you can just walk back. And I think, mothers, daughters, you go through these cycles of being there for each other and not being there for each other and wounding each other and then being the only person in the world who can lift someone up from, you know, a breakup, getting fired, a devastation. That's the person you want to reach out to.

Chang: Why set this book in 2019, by the way? Because for me, you know, it's so specifically not the present day, but also not that long ago. So what was it about the cusp of the pandemic that you wanted to remind us about?

Tanner : When I look back on 2019, it was this year that felt really normal until all of a sudden it didn't. And I remember there was this period, especially toward the end of the year, where it started to feel like things were about to hit the fan in this really big, scary way. And maybe that's a little bit of an anachronistic thing to say. But now when we look back on it, it was the last year of a chapter in our collective narrative about the world and about so many of our individual lives. And it just had this bonkers energy that I really wanted to try to capture.

Chang: You know, loneliness became such a theme during the pandemic, but you remind us that there was a lot of loneliness before the pandemic.

Tanner: Everybody around the world was lonely in 2019, too. You sort of thought things were about as bad as they could get, you know, politically, socially, whatever. And then it got so much worse.

Chang: Well, I want to end this interview where I started. What do you hope current 20-something-year-olds come away with after reading your book? What do you want to tell them?

Tanner: You're going to strive, you're going to suffer. It's all going to be OK. You're going to make it even if you only make it with a percentage of yourself that is far less than you thought you would carry on to the other side of it.

EXCLUSIVE : Two nights before Cillian Murphy won the Best Actor Oscar for the Universal Pictures blockbuster Oppenheimer , the studio completed a pre-emptive acquisition for the Mark A. Bradley book Blood Runs Coal : The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America . It’s an epic story of a corrupt union leader who murders a rival and is taken down by the lawyer son of the slain coal miner. It will be scripted as a starring and producing vehicle for Murphy.

Blood Runs Coal takes place in the late 1960s in the coal mines of Pennsylvania and chronicles one of the most infamous crimes in the history of organized labor. Jock Yablonski was a second-generation coal miner who became an activist in the United Mine Workers union after his father was killed in a mine explosion. He fought for safety, better working conditions and health benefits as many around him were felled by black lung and other respiratory maladies, and mishaps in the mines were all too common and preventable. He made sure his children were educated and could find work above ground.

Jock ran afoul of Tony Boyle, the union president who would do things like show up in a mine company helicopter to address workers after another mine mishap and tell them that mining was a dangerous business. He also seemed to use union coffers as his own piggybank. When Yablonski ran against Boyle and made accusations of impropriety, Boyle – who spent union funds on his own election campaign – was re-elected amid charges of ballot box stuffing. He was so incensed by the audacity of being challenged that he was said to have ordered the murder of his opponent. After three attempts, Yablonski was killed along with most of his family as they gathered for New Year’s Eve.

Murphy will play Chip Yablonski, a role that seems tailor fit for him. The actor excels in period films from Oppenheimer to Dunkirk, The Wind That Shakes the Barley and TV’s Peaky Blinders , and NBCUniversal Chairman and Chief of Content Donna Langley moved quickly to pre-empt the package before other studios had the chance to bid.

John Davis and Jordan Davis will produce through Davis Entertainment. Murphy and Alan Moloney will produce through Big Things Films. Mark A. Bradley will be executive producer. Jordan Davis found the book, and the pieces came together quickly on a drama that could put Murphy back in an awards race down the line.

There is hope Murphy will reprise in a Peaky Blinders film scripted by series creator Steven Knight. He will star in Steve for Netflix, directed by Tim Mielants, who helmed Small Things Like These , the first film Murphy produced with Big Things Films partner Moloney, which premiered in the Berlinale. Murphy also is aboard as EP with the likelihood he’ll reprise in 28 Years Later , the zombie trilogy being mounted by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. It was a bloody photo from that movie that first caught Christopher Nolan’s attention and led to a Murphy relationship that has spanned The Dark Knight trilogy , Inception , Dunkirk and led to both of them winning Oscars for Oppenheimer .

Murphy is repped by CAA, Lou Coulson Associates, David Weber at Sloane Offer Weber & Dern. Jez and John-Henry Butterworth are represented by CAA and Alan Wertheimer at Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Bradley is repped by Grandview and Aevitas Creative Management. Todd Shuster of Aevitas brokered the publishing deal for the book with Norton.

An all-American Bible — with a cut of the sales going to Trump

Donald trump finds votes and profits at the intersection of politics and religion.

story books with pictures

Donald Trump is not a particularly religious person, if he is one at all. Even Americans who view him favorably are a lot more likely to say he’s “not religious” than “very religious.” He goes to churches for political rallies far more often than he goes for services. He says the Bible is his favorite book, though he generally qualifies that by noting that he’s also a big fan of “The Art of the Deal.”

Makes sense that he’d like his own book, given how much money he’s made off it over the years. On Tuesday, though, he announced a promotion that might endear him even further to the central Christian text: a “God Bless the USA” Bible, some of the proceeds of which will flow back to him.

Sign up for the How to Read This Chart newsletter

Trump announced the book on his social media platform, Truth Social — itself a particularly lucrative venture at the moment, given that its just-listed stock price has jumped nearly 50 percent .

“Happy Holy Week!” Trump’s post said. “Let’s Make America Pray Again. As we lead into Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless The USA Bible.” He tagged musician Lee Greenwood in the post because the “God Bless the USA” singer is also touted as an endorser on the product’s webpage .

The promoted Bible has not only the standard books, but also a few additions including the Constitution (“which I’m fighting for every single day very hard,” Trump says in a video attached to the post), the Pledge of Allegiance and, as the webpage touts, the “[h]andwritten chorus to ‘God Bless The USA’ by Lee Greenwood.” It was originally slated for release in 2021, but an outcry from a number of prominent Christians derailed the rollout.

That was then. The current website for the book includes an FAQ that addresses the question of how the former president benefits from the partnership. It assures visitors that no money from the sale of the Bibles will go to Trump’s political campaign. Instead, “ GodBlessTheUSABible.com uses Donald J. Trump’s name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.”

CIC Ventures, though, is a conduit to Trump — personally, if not politically. In his financial disclosure released last year, he’s identified as the company’s “manager, president, secretary and treasurer” and the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust is identified as a 100 percent owner of the business. The same entity also receives royalties from his book “A MAGA Journey” and speaking engagements. A person familiar with the agreement confirmed to the New York Times that Trump earns royalties from purchases.

In retrospect, we might have predicted this particular business venture.

First, Trump has increasingly branched out on his endorsement gigs, slapping his name or likeness on sneakers and NFTs in addition to campaign merchandise. He is in a cash crunch — personally and politically — and has been unafraid throughout his career to put the Trump name on anything that might yield a stream of revenue.

But, second, Trump has mined right-wing religiosity consistently for political support and political contributions. Why not branch out into private-sector benefits?

“That’s why our country is going haywire: We’ve lost religion in our country,” Trump says in the video hyping his new partnership. “All Americans need a Bible in their home and I have many. It’s my favorite book.” At another point, he insists that Christians are “under siege” and that “we have to protect anything that is pro-God.”

This is familiar rhetoric. In each of his presidential campaigns , he’s presented similar warnings and promises: Christianity is under threat, and he will be its relentless defender. He’s been effective at building fervent support among White evangelical Protestants, thanks to his insistent efforts to deliver on their political desires. He has been as effective at leveraging the insecurities of evangelical Christians as he has of White conservatives overall.

That this was perhaps predictable doesn’t make it less cynical. The pairing of foundational documents like the Constitution with the Bible has appeal to the conservative Christians Trump embraces but would unquestionably be viewed skeptically by the Constitution’s writers. And, again, even his supporters understand that he’s not really religious. If religion is as essential to America as he claims, why doesn’t that apply to him and his family? (In 2015, his putative church released a statement noting that he wasn’t an “active member.”)

More to the point, why is he plugging this Bible now? The answers are obvious: now because he needs money and this Bible because he benefits financially to some extent.

Perhaps you think I am also being cynical. After all, Trump offers that he’s pitching the book now because Easter is Sunday. Perhaps he simply wants Americans to have a Bible in-hand on the most sacred of Christian holidays.

We turn again to that FAQ.

“The God Bless The USA Bible is printed in limited-edition quantities,” it reads. “Most orders ship within 4-6 weeks of the time ordered. Your order will ship as it becomes available, and we will make reasonable efforts to ship your order as quickly as possible.”

You pay the cost of the Bible, shipping and taxes up front, of course. First things first.

Trump promotes Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless The USA Bible': What to know about the book and its long journey

story books with pictures

  • Former president Donald Trump encourages supporters to buy Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA Bible," a project inspired by Nashville country musician's hit song.
  • Resurgent version of Greenwood's Bible project a modified version from original concept, a change that likely followed 2021 shake-up in publishers.

After years with few updates about Lee Greenwood’s controversial Bible, the project is again resurgent with a recent promotion by former President Donald Trump.

“All Americans need to have a Bible in their home and I have many. It’s my favorite book,” Trump said in a video posted to social media Tuesday, encouraging supporters to purchase the “God Bless The USA Bible.” “Religion is so important and so missing, but it’s going to come back.”

Greenwood — the Nashville area country musician whose hit song “God Bless the USA” inspired the Bible with a similar namesake — has long been allies with Trump and other prominent Republicans, many of whom are featured in promotional material for the “God Bless The USA Bible.” But that reputational clout in conservative circles hasn’t necessarily translated to business success in the past, largely due to a major change in the book’s publishing plan.

Here's what to know about the Bible project’s journey so far and why it’s significant it’s back in the conservative limelight.

An unordinary Bible, a fiery debate

The “God Bless The USA Bible” received heightened attention since the outset due to its overt political features.

The text includes the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, Pledge of Allegiance, and the lyrics to the chorus to Greenwood’s “God Bless The USA.” Critics saw it as a symbol of Christian nationalism, a right-wing movement that believes the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation.

A petition emerged in 2021 calling Greenwood’s Bible “a toxic mix that will exacerbate the challenges to American evangelicalism.” From there, a broader conversation ensued about the standards by which publishers print Bibles.

Gatekeeping in Bible publishing

Greenwood’s early business partner on the project, a Hermitage-based marketing firm called Elite Source Pro, initially reached a manufacturing agreement with the Nashville-based HarperCollins Christian Publishing to print the “God Bless The USA Bible.”

As part of that agreement, HarperCollins would publish the book but not sell or endorse it. But then HarperCollins reversed course , a major setback for Greenwood’s Bible.

The reversal by HarperCollins followed a decision by Zondervan — a publishing group under HarperCollins Christian Publishing and an official North American licensor for Bibles printed in the New International Version translation — to pass on the project. HarperCollins said the decision was unrelated to the petition or other public denunciations against Greenwood’s Bible.

The full backstory: Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless the USA Bible' finds new printer after HarperCollins Christian passes

A new translation and mystery publisher

The resurgent “God Bless The USA Bible” featured in Trump’s recent ad is an altered version of the original concept, a modification that likely followed the publishing shake-up.

Greenwood’s Bible is now printed in the King James Version, a different translation from the original pitch to HarperCollins.

Perhaps the biggest mystery is the new publisher. That manufacturer is producing a limited quantity of copies, leading to a delayed four-to-six weeks for a copy to ship.

It’s also unclear which business partners are still involved in the project. Hugh Kirkman, who led Elite Service Pro, the firm that originally partnered with Greenwood for the project, responded to a request for comment by referring media inquiries to Greenwood’s publicist.

The publicist said Elite Source Pro is not a partner on the project and the Bible has always been printed in the King James Version.

"Several years ago, the Bible was going to be printed with the NIV translation, but something happened with the then licensor and the then potential publisher. As a result, this God Bless The USA Bible has always been printed with the King James Version translation," publicist Jeremy Westby said in a statement.

Westby did not have the name of the new licensee who is manufacturing the Bible.

Trump’s plug for the “God Bless The USA Bible” recycled language the former president is using to appeal to a conservative Christian base.

“Our founding fathers did a tremendous thing when they built America on Judeo-Christian values,” Trump said in his video on social media. “Now that foundation is under attack perhaps as never before.”

What is the 'God Bless the USA Bible'? The $60 Bible Trump and Lee Greenwood are selling

story books with pictures

Donald Trump is now in the business of selling Bibles, according to an announcement made Tuesday.

Trump announced the partnership with country music singer Lee Greenwood, best known for his song "God Bless the USA". The pair is selling a custom version of the Bible for $59.99, called the " God Bless the USA Bible," which was previously announced in 2021 by Greenwood but then fell to the wayside after hitting snafus with publishing.

"All Americans need a Bible in their home, and I have many. It's my favorite book," Trump said in a video posted on social media "It's a lot of peoples' favorite book."

"We have to bring Christianity back into our lives and into what will be again a great nation," Trump said. "Our Founding Fathers did a tremendous thing when they built America on Judeo-Christian values. Now that foundation is under attack, perhaps as never before."

The announcement comes as Trump is embroiled in several legal battles, leaving him reportedly strapped for cash. He recently posted a $91 million bond as he appeals a jury award in a defamation case and, on Monday a New York state appeals court ruling imposed an additional $175 million bond while he appeals a civil fraud verdict against him. He will owe another $354 million plus interest if he loses the appeal.

Trump has denied that he is facing financial issues and a disclaimer on the controversial Bible's website claims it "has nothing to do with any political campaign" and is "not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates."

What exactly is this self-proclaimed patriotic version of the Bible and what does it have to do with a country song from the 1980s? Here's what we know.

Trump bibles: Donald Trump is selling $60 Bibles as he seeks funds for for campaign, legal bills

What is the 'God Bless the USA Bible'?

The "God Bless the USA Bible" is a version of the Christian Bible "inspired by Lee Greenwood's patriotic anthem 'God Bless the USA,'" according to the official God Bless The USA Bible website.

Touting itself as the "only Bible endorsed by President Trump" and Greenwood himself, it incorporates copies of American political documents and Greenwood's song lyrics into the copy.

A "spotlight" section on the website shows other conservative personalities posing with a copy of the bible, including Tomi Lahren, Donal Trump Jr., Rita Cosby, Travis Tritt and Gov. Mike Huckabee.

According to the website, "high order volume" means customers will have to wait four to six weeks for delivery.

What is in the 'God Bless the USA Bible'?

The "God Bless the USA Bible" is the King James Version translation interspersed with copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance and handwritten lyrics to the chorus of “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood.

According to the Bible's website, it comes in a large print, two-column format.

Christian nationalism on the rise: As Trump support merges with Christian nationalism, experts warn of extremist risks

Who is Lee Greenwood?

Melvin Lee Greenwood is an American  country music  singer-songwriter. He has released more than 20 major-label albums but is best known for his 1984 patriotic song "God Bless the USA."

Greenwood identifies as a conservative Republican and Christian and his song has often been used at Republican political rallies and conventions. It has been used in the campaigns of Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and more recently, Donald Trump.

President Bush nominated Greenwood to serve on the National Council of Arts, which he did from 2008 to 2022. In 2018, Greenwood was awarded the MMP Music Award and was inducted into the MMP Hall of Fame by Commander Joseph W. Clark.

'God Bless the USA Bible' controversies, response

Constitutional and legal scholars, as well as people in the Christian church, have rebuffed the existence of a Bible that mixes religion and legal doctrine. When the concept was first announced, it received notable backlash.

In 2021, HarperCollins Christian Publishing  refused to manufacture the book after a preliminary agreement, leading Greenwood and Hugh Kirkpatrick, who led the company Elite Service Pro behind the custom Bible, to look elsewhere for publishing.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing, which includes Zondervan and Thomas Nelson publishing groups, is the North American licensor for the New International Version translation of the Bible, which ultimately was not used in the "God Bless the USA" version. Instead, it uses the King James Version translation.

It is now unclear who the publisher and licensor of the new version is. Greenwood's publicist previously told the Nashville Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY network, that Elite Source Pro is no longer a partner on the project. He was unable to name the new licensee who is manufacturing the Bible.

Book of Donald: Trump hawks special ‘God Bless the USA’ Bibles for $60

Former president sells Trump-endorsed Bible in concert with Lee Greenwood, country singer whose music is played at his rallies

Patriotic, prayerful and rightwing Americans are being offered the chance to purchase – for a mere $59.99 – a Bible endorsed by Donald Trump , in the latest example of the former US president touting wares to the American public.

In a post to his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, the current presumptive Republican nominee and 88-times charged criminal defendant said : “Happy Holy Week! Let’s Make America Pray Again. As we lead into Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless the USA Bible.”

In an accompanying video message, Trump said : “I’m proud to be partnering with my very good friend Lee Greenwood – who doesn’t love his song God Bless the USA? – in connection with promoting the God Bless the USA Bible.”

Greenwood, a country singer whose signature tune is played at Trump rallies, is offering the Bibles for sale through a website, GodBlessTheUSABible.com.

The site features a picture of Trump smiling broadly and holding a Bible in front of his red-and-white-striped club tie. The cover of the Bible is embossed with the words “Holy Bible” and “God Bless the USA” and a design based on the US flag.

Greenwood’s website says the Bible is the only one endorsed by Trump, counsels buyers on what to do if their Bible has “sticky pages”, and answers the important question on many peoples’ minds: “Is any of the money from this Bible going to the Donald J Trump campaign for president?”

“No,” the site says. “GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign. GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J Trump, the Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates.

“GodBlessTheUSABible.com uses Donald J Trump’s name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.”

CIC Ventures was established in 2021 by a former Trump aide and a Trump-linked lawyer in Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump has lived since leaving power. Its principal address is that of Trump International Golf Club. The company has also been involved in Trump-themed money making schemes including digital training cards and gold sneakers.

Given Trump’s status as a thrice-married legally adjudicated rapist and billionaire New York property magnate nonetheless dependent on evangelical Christian support , his true relationship with and knowledge of the Bible has long been a subject of speculation.

In June 2020, towards the end of his presidency, he memorably marched out of the White House, across a square violently cleared of protesters for racial justice, and posed outside the historic St John’s church while holding a Bible in the air.

A reporter asked: “Is that your Bible?”

Trump said: “It’s a Bible.”

after newsletter promotion

In his video on Tuesday, Trump said: “Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country and I truly believe that we need to bring them back and we have to bring them back fast. I think it’s one of the biggest problems we have. That’s why our country is going haywire. We’ve lost religion in our country. All Americans need a Bible in their home, and I have many.”

In response, Gregory Minchak, of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, commented : “There’s not a cross nor a picture of Jesus on the page, but plenty of photos of Trump. Who do you think this $60 Bible is for? It sure isn’t for Jesus.”

Sarafina Chitika, a senior Biden campaign spokesperson, issued a stinging statement.

“The last time the American people saw Donald Trump hold up a Bible,” she said, “it was for a photo op after he teargassed American citizens demonstrating against white supremacy.

“He can’t be bothered to leave Mar-a-Lago to meet with actual voters, but found the time to hawk bootleg sneakers, sell cheap perfume and promote his ‘new’ product to line his own pockets.

“It’s classic Donald Trump – a fraud who has spent his life scamming people and his presidency screwing over the middle class and cutting taxes for his rich friends.”
