How to Convert Word to PowerPoint

Last Updated: February 13, 2024

This wikiHow article will show you the best way to convert a Microsoft Word document into a PowerPoint presentation on your PC or Mac. By making a few quick formatting changes to your document, you can import the document into PowerPoint and automatically create pre-formatted slides without having to retype anything!

Formatting the Document Before Converting

Step 1 Separate the Word document into sections with titles.

  • Each section needs a title at the top, and the title should be on its own line. The title will then become the title of that section's PowerPoint slide.
  • For example, let's say the first page of your Word document contains sales information that you'd like to appear on a PowerPoint slide called "Sales." At the top of that section, you'd type "Sales" as the title, since you want that to be the name of your slide. Below that would be the content of the slide.
  • Press Enter or Return after each section so there's at least one empty line between the end of a section and the title of the next slide.

Step 2 Navigate to the

  • If you don't see style examples on the toolbar, click the Styles menu to view them.

Step 3 Highlight the title of your first slide/section.

  • Once you change the first title to "Header 1," go through the rest of your document and do the same with other slide titles. You'll want all of the titles to be set to this style so they'll convert properly.

Step 5 Highlight the rest of the content on your first page.

  • Make sure you have at least one blank line between the title and the rest of the page's content.

Step 6 Select Heading 2 on the Styles panel.

  • In the content area, press the Enter or Return key to add space between every block of text you want separated on the slide. Every individual line or paragraph will be a different bullet on your final slide.

Step 7 Add sub-bullets using Heading 3 (optional).

  • Text formatted with "Heading 3"

Step 8 Separate each slide with a blank line.

  • If you delete the spaces between lines or try to add new text, it may not be formatted correctly, so always do this step last.

Step 10 Save the document.

  • Close Word when you're finished so there are no conflicts with PowerPoint in the remaining steps.

Converting to PowerPoint

Step 1 Open PowerPoint.

  • Every title you set to "Header 1" appears on its own slide, along with its corresponding content, which you set to "Header 2."
  • You can now design the slides however you'd like using all of your favorite PowerPoint tools.
  • Word will not automatically convert images for you—you will have to manually add the images into your presentation.

Step 6 Save the file as a PowerPoint presentation.

How to Prepare Presentations with Microsoft Word

A presentation is a process of presenting a product or topic to an audience intended to inform and demonstrate that particular subject. Creating the perfect presentations will support your pitch and could get you to the next level of your objectives. Presentation materials could be a series of creative slides, brochures , flyers , or posters . The document is your key to impress your viewers. Don't have any idea on how to start one? Feel free to read further to find tips and steps on how to create a presentation effectively.

1. Determine the Presentation's Purpose

First and foremost, you should know the purpose of your presentation materials. Are you using it to present new products or  project proposals ? Do you want to show annual sales? You need to consider your intentions to deliver precise information to your audiences.

2. Choose a Layout Design

Presentations come in different layouts. You need to incorporate your design into the purpose of your material. Most presentation materials have simple arrangements with minimal designs. Others prefer their content to have beautiful backgrounds and a clean layout that makes it look appealing. For example, you are doing a presentation for annual sales report. You can choose designs that help you emphasize  datasheets  and numbers for your material to be readable.

3. Pick a Presentation Template

If you don't want to waste time creating presentations from scratch, look for presentation templates on our site that fits your preferences well. These ready-made templates come with unique and aesthetic designs that you can freely adjust. You will find different styles and themed materials to suit any field you are assigned. The editable templates are downloadable in any device you have, along with its graphic designs in file formats like Microsoft Word.

4. Come Up with Essential Details

Once you have your presentation templates with you, start filling in the details you need. Presentations need to be short and precise. You have to summarize your topics no matter how broad it is. Even if it's an annual business report or  proposals , your audiences won't be interested in it if you have wordy slides to present. Make sure you have displayed the critical areas of your topic and have it straightforward.

5. Finalize Infographics

It is better to add infographics like charts , timelines, and illustrations on your presentation to avoid making your material dull and boring. Audiences prefer visual content than texts. They take in more information expressed through figures and images than have it in paragraphs. Infographics will also help you summarize your topics and allow you to squeeze them in one graph or chart.

6. Make your Presentation Engaging

Presentations are more fun and enjoyable if you often interact with your viewers. Get your audience to participate in your discussion as much as possible—it prevents your viewers from getting bored. If you are doing a presentation for a product, it is better to bring in a prop like a physical sample, to entertain your viewers more. It's also the same if you are presenting services. Try handing our marketing brochures and flyers to your audiences to have them more engaged.

“A picture is worth a thousand words” and especially for PowerPoint slides, this is a well- known rule, used by most presenters nowadays. If you want to have an extraordinary presentation that stands out between the regular PPT slides, a PowerPoint word cloud is the solution. Just think about the impact that graphics and words together as PowerPoint word cloud can have!

Creating a word cloud for your presentation can be a difficult and tiring exercise if you have to adjust each word manually to its place.

Therefore, here are 4 free, easy, and quick ways and websites to create your own word cloud either online or in PowerPoint itself:

Copilot for Microsoft 365 has specific requirements for app version, license, network, and privacy settings. If you don't have Copilot available in the ribbon and you think you should have it, verify that you meet the Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 Requirements .

What are the limitations of creating a presentation from a file?

Creating a presentation from a file is not currently available to Copilot Pro users.

For users licensed with Copilot for Microsoft 365, we only support creating a presentation based off a single Word file, which can be referenced by typing “/” in the Copilot compose box and picking the file you want to use.

Will Copilot use my company’s branding?

Using your organization’s branding is only available to users licensed with Copilot for Microsoft 365.

You can use any PowerPoint presentation or template file with your corporate brand as a template. You can create a new presentation from your corporate template or save a copy of your presentation with your corporate branding to create a new presentation with Copilot.

To experience the best results with Copilot, follow the guidance at Use your organization's branding with Copilot in PowerPoint . You may need help from your template creators and IT admin to modify corporate templates and publish them in your Organization Asset Library (OAL).

Does Copilot understand any languages other than English?

English, Spanish, Japanese, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, and Chinese Simplified are supported in Copilot scenarios. The quality is expected to be highest in English, while in other languages the quality is expected to be improved over time. More languages and locales will be added in the future. Find more information at Microsoft Copilot supported languages .

The suggestions from Copilot in PowerPoint are from AI, and we highly recommend users to review the suggestions before accepting them.

How was Copilot in PowerPoint evaluated?

Copilot in PowerPoint was evaluated through extensive manual and automatic testing on top of Microsoft internal usage and public data. More evaluation was performed over custom datasets for offensive and malicious prompts (user questions) and responses. In addition, Copilot in PowerPoint is continuously evaluated with user online feedback.

What operational factors and settings allow for effective and responsible use of Copilot in PowerPoint?

Copilot in PowerPoint has been reviewed by our Responsible AI (RAI) team. We follow RAI principles and have implemented:

Responsible AI handling pipeline to mitigate the risks, like harmful, inappropriate content.

In-product user feedback with which users can report offensive content back to Microsoft.

What should I do if I see unexpected or offensive output when using Copilot in PowerPoint?

Copilot in PowerPoint includes filters to block offensive language in the prompts and to avoid synthesizing suggestions in sensitive contexts. We continue to work on improving the filter system to more intelligently detect and remove offensive outputs. If you see offensive outputs including images, please submit feedback in PowerPoint using the thumbs up/thumbs down feedback in the Copilot UI so that we can improve our safeguards. Microsoft takes this challenge very seriously, and we are committed to addressing it.

Can I trust what Copilot in PowerPoint creates?

Copilot in PowerPoint gives you a head start in crafting your presentation, but the content it generates can be inaccurate or inappropriate. It can’t understand meaning or evaluate accuracy, so be sure to read over what it writes, and use your judgment.

While these features work to avoid sharing unexpected offensive content in results and take steps to prevent displaying potentially harmful topics, you may still see unexpected results. We’re constantly working to improve our technology to proactively address issues in line with our responsible AI principles.

As with any AI-generated content, it's a great tool to get started, but it's important that you review, edit, and verify anything it creates for you.

Is the content original?

Copilot in PowerPoint generates the content on slides based on language patterns it has found throughout the internet. Sometimes its results will be very similar to existing internet content, or Copilot might generate the same or very similar content for multiple people who are prompting Copilot in the same way.

For example, anyone who instructs Copilot to “ add a slide about banana ice cream " is likely to wind up with identical or nearly identical content.

Where do the images come from?

Copilot in PowerPoint pulls images from the Getty image library and Microsoft stock images.

Where can I learn more about privacy?

Copilot and Microsoft 365 are built on Microsoft's comprehensive approach to security, compliance, and privacy.

For more information about privacy, see the following information:

If you’re using Copilot for Microsoft 365 in your organization (with your work or school account), see Data, Privacy, and Security for Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 .

AI presentation maker

When lack of inspiration or time constraints are something you’re worried about, it’s a good idea to seek help. Slidesgo comes to the rescue with its latest functionality—the AI presentation maker! With a few clicks, you’ll have wonderful slideshows that suit your own needs . And it’s totally free!

word presentation

Generate presentations in minutes

We humans make the world move, but we need to sleep, rest and so on. What if there were someone available 24/7 for you? It’s time to get out of your comfort zone and ask the AI presentation maker to give you a hand. The possibilities are endless : you choose the topic, the tone and the style, and the AI will do the rest. Now we’re talking!

Customize your AI-generated presentation online

Alright, your robotic pal has generated a presentation for you. But, for the time being, AIs can’t read minds, so it’s likely that you’ll want to modify the slides. Please do! We didn’t forget about those time constraints you’re facing, so thanks to the editing tools provided by one of our sister projects —shoutouts to Wepik — you can make changes on the fly without resorting to other programs or software. Add text, choose your own colors, rearrange elements, it’s up to you! Oh, and since we are a big family, you’ll be able to access many resources from big names, that is, Freepik and Flaticon . That means having a lot of images and icons at your disposal!

word presentation

How does it work?

Think of your topic.

First things first, you’ll be talking about something in particular, right? A business meeting, a new medical breakthrough, the weather, your favorite songs, a basketball game, a pink elephant you saw last Sunday—you name it. Just type it out and let the AI know what the topic is.

Choose your preferred style and tone

They say that variety is the spice of life. That’s why we let you choose between different design styles, including doodle, simple, abstract, geometric, and elegant . What about the tone? Several of them: fun, creative, casual, professional, and formal. Each one will give you something unique, so which way of impressing your audience will it be this time? Mix and match!

Make any desired changes

You’ve got freshly generated slides. Oh, you wish they were in a different color? That text box would look better if it were placed on the right side? Run the online editor and use the tools to have the slides exactly your way.

Download the final result for free

Yes, just as envisioned those slides deserve to be on your storage device at once! You can export the presentation in .pdf format and download it for free . Can’t wait to show it to your best friend because you think they will love it? Generate a shareable link!

What is an AI-generated presentation?

It’s exactly “what it says on the cover”. AIs, or artificial intelligences, are in constant evolution, and they are now able to generate presentations in a short time, based on inputs from the user. This technology allows you to get a satisfactory presentation much faster by doing a big chunk of the work.

Can I customize the presentation generated by the AI?

Of course! That’s the point! Slidesgo is all for customization since day one, so you’ll be able to make any changes to presentations generated by the AI. We humans are irreplaceable, after all! Thanks to the online editor, you can do whatever modifications you may need, without having to install any software. Colors, text, images, icons, placement, the final decision concerning all of the elements is up to you.

Can I add my own images?

Absolutely. That’s a basic function, and we made sure to have it available. Would it make sense to have a portfolio template generated by an AI without a single picture of your own work? In any case, we also offer the possibility of asking the AI to generate images for you via prompts. Additionally, you can also check out the integrated gallery of images from Freepik and use them. If making an impression is your goal, you’ll have an easy time!

Is this new functionality free? As in “free of charge”? Do you mean it?

Yes, it is, and we mean it. We even asked our buddies at Wepik, who are the ones hosting this AI presentation maker, and they told us “yup, it’s on the house”.

Are there more presentation designs available?

From time to time, we’ll be adding more designs. The cool thing is that you’ll have at your disposal a lot of content from Freepik and Flaticon when using the AI presentation maker. Oh, and just as a reminder, if you feel like you want to do things yourself and don’t want to rely on an AI, you’re on Slidesgo, the leading website when it comes to presentation templates. We have thousands of them, and counting!.

How can I download my presentation?

The easiest way is to click on “Download” to get your presentation in .pdf format. But there are other options! You can click on “Present” to enter the presenter view and start presenting right away! There’s also the “Share” option, which gives you a shareable link. This way, any friend, relative, colleague—anyone, really—will be able to access your presentation in a moment.

Discover more content

This is just the beginning! Slidesgo has thousands of customizable templates for Google Slides and PowerPoint. Our designers have created them with much care and love, and the variety of topics, themes and styles is, how to put it, immense! We also have a blog, in which we post articles for those who want to find inspiration or need to learn a bit more about Google Slides or PowerPoint. Do you have kids? We’ve got a section dedicated to printable coloring pages! Have a look around and make the most of our site!

How-To Geek

How to create a word cloud in microsoft powerpoint.

Though there's no built-in tool for creating a word cloud in PowerPoint, it can still be done with an add-in. Here's how.

Quick Links

Install the pro word cloud add-in, create a word cloud in microsoft powerpoint.

Adding a word cloud to your slideshow helps communicate what's really important about the presentation by making certain keywords stand out. There's no built-in tool in Microsoft PowerPoint for creating a word cloud, but it can still be done. Here's how.

Though there are several third-party applications available that claim to generate a word cloud in Microsoft PowerPoint, we'll be using the free Pro Word Cloud add-in in this tutorial. But there are some precautions you must take.

Related: How to Install and Use Add-ins for Microsoft Office

Freeware isn't known for its privacy or security. Pro Word Cloud's add-in capabilities include reading your document and sending data over the internet. If you're concerned about the confidentiality of your data, this may not be the best option for you. There are risks involved when using freeware as a quick and easy means to an end.

Almost all freeware comes bundled with bloatware and, while most bloatware isn't malicious, that's not always the case. But even if the bloatware isn't malicious in itself, it does consume disk space which in turn can slow down your computer---a price most aren't willing to pay for free software.

While we didn't encounter any issues when using this free add-in, that doesn't mean you won't. However, if you're still sure you want to give this PowerPoint add-in a go, head over to the Pro Word Cloud download page and click "Get it Now."

Get it now button

A pop-up window will appear containing links to the terms of use and privacy policy. If you agree, click "Continue."

Pop-up message containing privacy and use info

You'll then be redirected to the Microsoft 365 store. Click "Open in PowerPoint."

Open in PowerPoint button

Another message will appear, this time requesting permission to open PowerPoint. Click "Open PowerPoint."

Open PowerPoint button

PowerPoint will launch and the add-in will be installed. You can now close PowerPoint and access the add-in at any time.

Open the PowerPoint file that contains the text you would like to create a word cloud with and then click the "Insert" tab.

Insert tab in PowerPoint

Next, in the "Add-ins" group, click "My Add-ins."

My add-ins button

The "Office Add-ins" window will appear. Double-click the "Pro Word Cloud" add-in.

Pro Word Cloud add-in

Once selected, the Pro Word Cloud pane will appear on the right-hand side of the PowerPoint window. Here, you can adjust certain settings such as your text font, color scheme, layout style, and case. You can also choose how many words will appear in the word cloud, as well as the size (in pixels) of the word cloud image.

Lastly, common words (such as "and" or "if") are excluded from the word cloud by default. Uncheck the box next to "Remove Common Words?" if you'd like to keep them.

Word cloud settings

Once you've adjusted the settings to your liking, select the text in the PowerPoint slide by clicking and dragging your cursor over the text.

Back in the Pro Word Cloud pane, click the "Create Word Cloud" button.

Create word cloud button

Pro Word Cloud will now generate your word cloud. As you can see from the tip that's displayed, the word cloud image is copied to your clipboard.

Finished word cloud

You can now click and drag the image from the side pane over to your slide, or paste it from your clipboard by right-clicking on the slide and selecting the paste option.

Play around with the different color schemes provided to find one that matches your Microsoft PowerPoint theme!

New Platforms, New Players: Four Fan-Favorite Xbox Games Coming to Nintendo Switch and Sony Platforms

At Xbox, we strive to create games that inspire, entertain, and connect players from around the world. As a publisher and platform we are committed to meeting players where they are, by bringing more games, to more people, and on more devices. And at the heart of all we do are our players, and the vibrant communities that they build around the games they love.

Today we are announcing that four fan-favorite Xbox games will be coming to Nintendo Switch and Sony platforms this spring. The studios that built these celebrated games have drawn on their multi-platform experience to open the worlds they created to even more players and communities.

  • Pentiment from Obsidian Entertainment, a truly unique, critically acclaimed, and award-winning narrative adventure game with a striking visual style inspired by history itself will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on February 22.
  • Hi-Fi RUSH , the award-winning and beloved rhythm-based action game where the world syncs to the music from Tango Gameworks/Bethesda Softworks will be coming to PlayStation 5 on March 19 at midnight UTC, with pre-purchase available on PlayStation 5 digital storefronts on February 22.
  • Grounded – also from Obsidian Entertainment – a co-op survival adventure phenomenon that has welcomed 20 million players into the backyard, will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on April 16. Cross play will be supported across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.
  • Sea of Thieves , the shared world adventure game from Rare, will be coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30 – and will be available to wishlist by PlayStation 5 players starting tomorrow, February 22. Having built a passionate community of more than 35 million players from around the world, the support of cross play for Xbox, PlayStation and PC will allow players to experience epic pirate adventures with friends on more platforms.

These titles join franchises like Minecraft , Call of Duty , Overwatch and Diablo – which already reach players and fans on multiple platforms – and we’re excited for more players to experience these worlds and stories on more platforms.

Whether it’s Nintendo Switch and PlayStation players surviving in the backyard together in Grounded , or PlayStation players getting to live a pirate’s life in Sea of Thieves , with cross-play, these multiplayer titles available will bring more people together and continue to grow their communities of players.

Last week on The Official Xbox Podcast , we also discussed how our Xbox consoles will continue to provide a flagship experience for players . This is what it means to be a part of Xbox:

  • The biggest games in the world will be on Xbox.
  • Our first party games will come to Game Pass day one.
  • A robust and innovative multi-year hardware roadmap.
  • Compatibility with your library is a priority, inclusive of cross-play, cross-save, and robust cloud features.
  • Xbox will continue to help game creators find the biggest audience possible.

And as we shared at Developer_Direct , earlier this year, players can look forward to Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II , Avowed , Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and more on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Xbox Game Pass this year.

There’s never been a better time to play, and we can’t wait for more players to experience these great games.
