On demand used as recommendation for basic literature for case study research

An essential reading for people doing case studies.

very thoruogh introduction

Very good introduction to Case Study design. I have used case study approach for my PhD study. I would recommend this book for an indepth understanding of case study design for research projects.

Dr Siew Lee School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Practice Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.

The book is a really good introduction to case study research and is full of useful examples. I will recommend as the definitive source for students interested in pursuing this further in their projects.

In our Doctor of Ministerial Leadership (DML), Case Study is the Methodology that is required in this program. Robert Yin's book provides the foundational knowledge needed to conduct research using his Case Study design.

The Use of Yin's Case Study Research Approach as a Means to Stimulating Emancipatory Action Research

Profile image of Glenn Stewart

This paper describes the rationale for a collaborative research project between academe and industry that was studying barriers to the exploitation of information technology. In particular, the barriers identified include stereotypical beliefs about IT professionals, implicit beliefs about leaders, the nature of the relationship between IT and business management communities, organisational experience with information technology and innovation and IS/IT leadership. The major outputs of the research include: a) the development of an approach to uncover implicit leadership beliefs, and variations in the perception of leadership between the business and IT management communities, b) leadership performance of the IT managers using an established and validated instrument (the Multi-factor Leadership Questionnaire) and c) the first benchmarks obtained for IT leadership according to the Full Range Leadership Model. This paper discusses the use of Yin's approach to case study research a...

Existing information systems (IS) studies have investigated how senior IS executives’ leadership and knowledge can influence information technology (IT) assimilation. Other studies have investigated how various factors influence IS implementation. Yet even other studies though scarce and limited, have explored and attempted to determine those factors or capabilities that contribute to IS success. This research intends to extend the body of knowledge by providing empirical evidence of the positive role IS leadership plays in IS success. A conceptual model was developed and used to further advance the theoretical foundations for IS leadership and IS success as previously established in the available literature. An empirical test of the model was conducted. Data for the study were acquired through sampling the target population of IS executives and professionals. Through the use of path analysis and the underlying multiple linear regression, the results indicated that IS leadership directly and indirectly through certain IS competencies serving as mediating variables, positively and strongly influences IS success. Implications for future study as well as for practical application were also suggested.

The role of Leadership to improve IT management has been extensively discussed at both corporate and academic level. However, a model that relates both Organizational and Information Technology (IT) Leadership with the achievement ofInformation Systems (IS) success is not readily available. This paper discusses the preliminary findings of a study that assesses the effect of leadership on IS success. Leadership is measured at the organizational level as a component of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) and at the IT level as a part of IT-Business alignment structure. Instruments to measure Leadership and IS success are devised and an empirical study within a municipal government is conducted. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is used to evaluate the proposed “IS Leadership Success” model. The preliminary results of the study empirically validated the instruments and provided support for the relationship betweenleadership and IS success

A number of the information and communications technology (ICT) companies have lately faced serious financial problems and loss of customers. Layoffs and even bankcrupts are now typical for ICT industry. Media hype and initial public offering (IPOs) stories made this industry lucrative. Now, after the burst of hype bubble reorientation is needed. Learning to share visions, create effective ebusiness strategies and implement them with speed and quality are now the key priorities. ICT professionals and workers who previously dreamed about prosperous working life can now face unemployment or at least serious redirection in their professional career. Many of the former managers and even superiors have experienced a heavy growing process from” a friendship organization” culture to a more professional and “business-as-usual” type of management culture. An explorative framework for understanding changing leadership cultures in ICT industry is introduced. Findings and examples are based on ...

Despite the high level of information technology (IT) investments, IT is underutilized. This paper focuses on how IT can be utilized to innovate task processes, therefore contributing to performance. This paper conceptualizes and theorizes about ‘information technology (IT) self-leadership’. I define IT self-leadership as the behaviors of an individual that bring about a process innovation in the accomplishment of a task by incorporating information technologies, where the task definition does not explicitly refer to a need to use any information technologies. This paper concludes with the research model and the accompanying propositions. I expect that the characteristics of the individuals (such as their general self-leadership and computer self-efficacy) as well as the organizational climate (including formal leadership and the IT-related social norms) contribute to IT self-leadership. IT self-leadership, in turn, contributes to performance. I also expect that task motivation mode...

TITLE: Transformational Leadership in Planning Curricula

KEYWORDS: Critical Planning Pedagogy , Transformational Leadership , Community Engagement

JOURNAL NAME: Current Urban Studies , Vol.2 No.3 , September 18, 2014

ABSTRACT: Planners are expected to be ethical, advancing socially-responsible citizenship-based practices. They must also have a keen understanding of the implications of top-down policy decisions on communities. A Planner is a public servant. Public servants require a mastery of techniques for community engagement: involving a wide range of people in making decisions, an ability to work with the public and articulate planning issues to a wide variety of audiences, as well as the ability to function as a facilitator when community interests conflict. These skills call for a theoretical foundation in transformational leadership, but students will not learn transformational leadership unless the curriculum deliberately teaches and models it. This research considers the intersection of three major themes in the pedagogy of Planning: sustainable communities, transformational leadership, and community engagement. The intersection, a critical Planning pedagogy, should be a guiding principle of all Planning curricula. Although this is a case study, and its findings limited to one program, the framework can be explored as a means to examining transformational leadership as a means to advancing socially-responsible citizenship-based practices in Planning curricula.
