How to open any app on your samsung galaxy z flip 5's cover screen.

Good Lock can unlock the ability to run any app on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is one of the best clamshell foldable phones available. Samsung went with the trend, as seen on other flip phones, and increased the size of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen to 3.4 inches from 1.9 inches on the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The bigger cover screen lets you use widgets and apps and play games.

The Motorola Razr+ 2023 cover screen offers a better value proposition than the Galaxy Z Flip 5's screen. Samsung only allows a handful of apps to be used on the Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover screen. Samsung has a solution that allows you to use more apps on the cover screen, which we discuss in this guide.

Which default apps can you run on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen?

By default, when you purchase a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, you only see widgets for weather, calendar, notifications, and others. You can run a curated set of apps optimized for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen. For that, go to Settings > Advanced Features > Labs and toggle on the Apps allowed on cover screen option.

After turning on the toggle, select which of the five optimized apps (Google Maps, Google Messages, Samsung Messages, Netflix, WhatsApp, and YouTube) to use on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 review: Polished to a sheen

If you want to spruce things up and open any app on that cover screen, use a tool called Good Lock .

How to use Good Lock to use more apps on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen

Good Lock is Samsung's proprietary app that unlocks the potential for users to customize their Samsung Galaxy devices. It contains several mini-apps, known as modules, that allow you to tweak the screen lock effect, the app drawer animation, the notification behavior, and more.

One of the things that it lets you do is use any app on your Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen. Here's how to use it:

  • Launch the Galaxy Store app on your Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.
  • Search for Good Lock and install it on your phone.
  • Open Good Lock and select Life up from the bottom.
  • Download Multistar .
  • After the download finishes, open Multistar and choose I love Galaxy Foldable at the top of the screen.
  • Select Launcher Widget .
  • Tap Enable Launcher Widget .
  • Select the apps that you want to use on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen. There isn't an option to select all apps at once.
  • Leave the app after making your choices.
  • Open your Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen and enjoy your favorite apps on it.

This is the official way that Samsung allows you to use almost any app on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen.

Which apps can be used on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen using Good Lock?

Running a full-fledged app on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen doesn't have a pleasing experience because of the limited screen size. After testing multiple apps such as Google Maps, Gallery, Instagram, Samsung Internet, Calculator, Twitter, and WhatsApp, it was evident that the cover screen isn't meant to watch YouTube videos or movies on Netflix. While you can do that, you won't enjoy it. It's great when using the cover display for navigation, reading text messages or WhatsApp, or casually scrolling through Facebook feeds.

When you use Instagram, look at a profile on Facebook, and do more granular stuff, the cover screen feels cramped because of small touch targets.

How is the experience compared to other foldable, such as the Motorola Razr+?

Using an app on the Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover screen compared to its arch-rival, the Motorola Razr+, is disappointing for multiple reasons. First, you'll hop over different steps to use any app on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen. It's an out-of-the-box feature on the Motorola Razr+. You can open any app installed on your phone on the cover screen of the Motorola Razr+.

Second, the cover screen of the Motorola Razr+ is a 3.6-inch pOLED display with a 1066x1056 resolution and a super smooth 144Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen is a 3.4-inch AMOLED panel with a 728x740 resolution and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. The overall app usage experience is better on the Motorola Razr+ than on the Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover screen.

What's the difference between AMOLED, OLED, and POLED?

Do more with the second screen on your galaxy z flip 5.

Sometimes, multiple apps may not run properly or misbehave on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen. Not all apps are optimized to run on the cover display. If you face issues with a particular app, don't include it as your cover screen app. If the problem is at the system level, perform a factory reset to return the device to its original state.

City Street Guides by f.d. walker: A Street Photography Guide to Moscow, Russia

moscow-guide-cover

*A series of guides on shooting Street Photography in cities around the world. Find the best spots to shoot, things to capture, street walks, street tips, safety concerns, and more for cities around the world. I have personally researched, explored and shot Street Photography in every city that I create a guide for. So you can be ready to capture the streets as soon as you step outside with your camera!

At over 12 million people, Moscow is the largest city in Russia and second largest in Europe by population ( Istanbul is #1). An urban, cosmopolitan metropolis with more than enough glitz and glam to cater to the elite, but without losing its fair share of Soviet era roughness around the edges. It can be fast paced, brash, busy, and trendy like other big cities, but it has its blend of West meets Russia atmosphere and beauty that provides plenty of unique interest. The Red Square is as famous as it gets, but there’s so much more to this city, including the most beautiful subway system you’ve ever seen. It would take years to capture all of Moscow, but that means you have an endless amount of areas to discover.

led cover app samsung

So here’s a Street Photography guide so you can be ready to capture all that Moscow has to offer before you even arrive!

  • Patriarch’s Pond
  • Old Arbat Street
  • Maroseyka Street
  • Tverskoy Boulevard

Top 5 Street Spots:

1. red square.

The Red Square is the most famous square in not just Russia, but all of Eastern Europe. The name actually doesn’t come from the color of the bricks or communism, but from the name in Russian, Krásnaya, once meaning “beautiful” before its meaning changed to “red.” This large plaza is what you see on the cover of guide books and magazines for Moscow, with St. Basil’s Cathedral being the center piece next to Lenin’s Mausoleum surrounded by the Kremlin Wall. Of course, the Red Square attracts hordes of tourist due to the main attractions, but all that activity around an interesting atmosphere does provide street photo opportunities. It’s also the central square connecting to the city’s major streets, providing a good starting point to explore outward.

led cover app samsung

You’ll also find the popular pedestrian only Nikolskaya Street connecting the Red Square to Lubyanka Square. This line of expensive shops includes plenty of activity, while also leading you to another popular square. Filled with history rivaling any city, the Red Square and surrounding areas are the heart and soul of Russia.

2. Patriarch’s Ponds

Patriarch’s Ponds is one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Moscow. Despite the name being plural, there’s only one large pond, but it’s worth a visit with your camera. It’s a popular spot for locals and expats to come relax or take a stroll around the pond. You get an interesting mix of young and old too, from young love to “babushkas” feeding pigeons. It’s a very peaceful park atmosphere in one of the nicer areas within the city center, while bringing enough activity for street photography.

led cover app samsung

The pond is shallow and in the winter becomes a popular spot for ice-skating too. The area is also well-known for the location in the famous Russian novel, The Master and Margarita.

3. Old Arbat (Stary Arbat)

Old Arbat is the most famous pedestrian street in Moscow, and dating back to the 15th century, also one of its oldest. Originally, it was an area of trade, but soon became the most prestigious residential area in Moscow. During the 18th century, Arbat started attracting the city’s scholars and artists, including Alexander Pushkin. Cafes lined the streets and impressive homes filled the neighborhood. Since then, New Arbat street was created as a highway in the area, while Old Arbat was paved for a 1km pedestrian only walkway.

led cover app samsung

Due to the historic buildings, famous artists that lived here, and the bohemian atmosphere, Old Arbat has become a big attraction for tourists today. Now, there’s a mix of cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, street performers, street merchants and other attractions for visitors, and some locals, to come enjoy. It can get really busy here and there’s usually something interesting going on so it’s a good street to come walk with your camera for guaranteed life.

4. Gorky Park

One of the most famous places in Moscow is Gorky Park. The official name is Maxim Gorky’s Central Park of Culture & Leisure, which gives you an idea of what goes on here. When built, it was the first of its kind in the Soviet Union. Divided into two parts, it stretches along Moscow River. One end contains fair rides, foods stands, tennis courts, a sports club, a lake for boat rides, and more. This end brings more active life due to its number of attractions, while the other end is more relaxed, where you’ll find gardens, trees, older buildings, and an outdoor amphitheater.

led cover app samsung

Gorky Park attracts mostly locals so it’s a good spot to capture the non-tourist side of Moscow life. Muscovites come here to escape the city and unwind in a picturesque setting. The park remains alive outside of the warmer months too, especially when the lake turns into the city’s largest outdoor skating rink. I’d recommend taking the metro out here to spend at least half a day exploring the massive park’s life with your camera.

5. Maroseyka Street

Maroseyka Street is a popular area not too far from the Red Square. The long, winding street turns into Pokrovka and is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars and places to stay. It’s actually where I like to stay when I’m in Moscow due to its location and solid street photography opportunities itself. You have Kitay-gorod station near and if you keep walking southwest, you’ll get to the Red Square. But if you walk northwest, as it changes to Pokrovka, you can find a long street of activity for photography with its own interesting atmosphere.

led cover app samsung

6. Tverskoy Boulevard

Tverskoy Boulevard is the oldest and longest boulevard in Moscow, beginning at the end of Nikitsky Boulevard, and finishing at Pushkin Square, a spot to come for activity itself. The boulevard is made up of two avenues, with pedestrian walkways in-between. You’ll find grass, shrubbery, trees, benches and more walking it’s almost kilometer length. Many people come here to enjoy some relaxation, walk their dog, or just to use it to walk wherever they’re going. Its center location also provides a nice place to walk with your camera near plenty of other spots you’ll want to check out anyway.

Sample Street Walk:

For a full day of Street Photography, covering some of the best spots, you can follow this sample street walk for Moscow:

  • Start your morning walking around the Red Square (1), while exploring the surrounding area, including Nikolskaya Street
  • Then walk northwest to Patriarch’s Ponds (2) and slowly walk the pond and surrounding area with your camera
  • Next, walk east to the Pushkin Monument and stroll down Tverskoy Boulevard (6)
  • Once Tverskoy Boulevard (6) ends, it will turn into Nikitsky Boulevard. Follow this down until you get to the start of Old Arbat Street (3), across from Arbatskaya station
  • After you’re done walking down Old Arbat Street (3) for more street photography, spend some time checking out Moscow’s beautiful metro stations
  • To finish off the day with more street photography, get off the metro near Red Square (1) again, Maroseyka Street (5) or wherever you’re staying for the night.

3 Things I’ll Remember about Shooting in Moscow:

1. museum metro.

The Moscow metro system was the first underground railway system in the Soviet Union and today includes 203 stations across 340km of routes. The elaborate system has some of the deepest stations in the world too, with escalators that seem to go on forever. None of this is what makes it so special, though. Many of its stations feel like stepping inside a museum, making it without a doubt the most interesting and beautiful metro system I’ve been in.

led cover app samsung

When built, Stalin wanted to make the metro stations “palaces for the people” with marble, chandeliers, and grand architecture. The best part is the variety of architecture and styles used, making many of the stations a completely different experience visually. You could easily spend a whole day traveling the stations and there are even tours available for people who wish to do just that. My advice, though, would be just to buy a ticket and hop on and off at different stations, while exploring different lines. The museum-like surrounding mixed with the crowds of characters can make for a great photography experience.

led cover app samsung

Since there are so many stations, here are some of my favorites to check out:

  • Novoslobodskaya
  • Mayakovskaya
  • Elektrozavodskaya
  • Komsomolskaya
  • Ploschad Revolyutsii
  • Dostoyevskaya
  • Prospekt Mira

2. Moscow is Big

It’s no secret that Moscow is a big city, but it can feel even bigger with how spread out much of it is. This is especially true if you compare it to cities outside of Asia. If I compared it to cities in Europe, I’d probably say only Istanbul would warrant more time to really discover the depths of this city. Most only explore around the Red Square and surrounding area, but that is such a small part of the city. Although, that central area does give you plenty to see on its own.

led cover app samsung

Fortunately, I had a good friend living in the city to show me around, but it opened up my eyes even more to how much there is to discover in Moscow. It’s a big city with a variety of atmosphere that can take you from “east” to “west” and trendy to rugged depending on where you go. I’d imagine you’d have to live here a while to really know the city.

3. Cosmopolitan Mix of East meets West

Modern skyscrapers mixed with amazing architecture, a world-class metro system with museum-like beauty, trendy fashion and chic clubs, Moscow is a rich mix of Russian culture and history in a more western cosmopolitan package. There is a push to keep the Russian culture, while also pushing forward with a modern metropolis the whole world will envy. This comes with an impressive skyline, that continues to grow, and endless modernities, but with soviet nostalgia and atmosphere mixed in for good measure.

led cover app samsung

Mixed in with this grand western cosmopolitan atmosphere, is a strong national pride in Russia. This includes their famous leader, Vladimir Putin. Maybe no other place will you see a country’s leader more often. All over, from the pricey tourist shops to the underground walkway stalls, you’ll find goods with Putin’s likeness covering them. From t-shirts to magnets to Matryoshka dolls. There’s a strong national pride that can be seen around the city, which also extends to their leader. Moscow is many things. It’s East meets West, modernizations meets Soviet era, and a whole lot more.

What To Do For a Street Photography Break?:

Eat at a stolovaya.

Stolovayas are Russian cafeterias that became popular in the Soviet days. You grab a tray and walk down the line of freshly prepared local dishes, and select whatever you want from the chefs. They’re usually inexpensive and a much better value than restaurants, while giving you the opportunity to try from a wide selection of everyday Russian food. They’re also very tasty. I always include some borsch on my tray and go from there. The places themselves are all over Moscow and usually come with Soviet-era aesthetics to complete the experience.

Street Safety Score: 7

*As always, no place is completely safe! So when I talk about safety, I’m speaking in general comparison to other places. Always take precaution, be smart, observe your surroundings and trust your instincts anywhere you go!

Being the 2nd largest city in Europe with over 12 million people, you’re going to have your dangerous areas, but for the most part, it feels safe walking around. Russia is statistically higher in crime compared to most of Europe, but this generally doesn’t apply to tourists and visitors. Around the Red Square and surrounding city center, you should feel completely safe walking around. Pick pocketing can happen, but no more than other touristic places. I always explore Moscow freely without coming across too much to worry about. It’s a spread out city, though, so of course it matters where you are. Just use basic street smarts, know where you are and Moscow shouldn’t give you a problem.

led cover app samsung

People’s Reaction Score: 7

Moscow is fast paced, big city life, which usually means people aren’t too concerned with you, or your camera. I don’t find people notice or pay much attention to me when I’m out taking photos in Moscow. For the most part, people just go about their day. You shouldn’t get too many looks or concern. But it can depend on the area you are in. The more you stick out, the more you might get noticed with suspicions. I’ve never had any problems in Moscow, or Russia, but just be careful who you’re taking a photo of if you get out of the city center. Other than that, it’s about average for reactions.

led cover app samsung

Street Tips:

Learn the alphabet .

Much of Moscow, including the metro system, doesn’t use english. The Russian alphabet uses letters from the Cyrillic script, which if you aren’t familiar with it and don’t know the sounds, can be hard to decipher the words. This is most important for street names and metro stops when trying to get around. It can save confusion and make it easier getting around if you learn the basic alphabet. At the very least then, you can sound out the words to see which are similar in the english conversion, which can help matching them to maps. When out shooting street photography, getting around is as important as anything. So save yourself some time and frustration by learning the Russian Alphabet.

led cover app samsung

Use the metro

While Saint-Petersburg feels very walkable for a city its size, Moscow can feel very spread out, even for its bigger size. Outside of the Red Square area, you can have plenty of walking before getting anywhere very interesting, so you’ll need to take the metro a lot if you really want to explore the city. Maps are deceiving here too, it will always be further than it looks.

led cover app samsung

Another reason it’s less walkable than Saint-Petersburg is its completely different set-up. Moscow’s streets are mostly contstructed in rings with narrow, winding streets in-between. This is common with medieval city cities that used to be confined by walls, but you usually don’t have it in a city this massive. Saint-Petersburg has a more grid-like pattern that also uses the canals to help you know your way around. When it comes to navigating on foot in Moscow, it can be more difficult, so bring a map and take the metro when needed. It’s why Moscow’s metro carries more passengers per day than the London and Paris subways combined.

Explore other areas if you have time

Moscow is really big. While most people stay around the Red Square within the Boulevard Ring, there’s so much more to the city. I covered some other spots outside of this circle, but if you really want to see the city, you’ll need time. If you do have time, some other areas I’d check out first are Zamoskvarechye, along some of the south and western Moscow.

Inspiration:

For some more inspiration, you can look through the Street Photography of Moscow photographer Artem Zhitenev  and check out 33 of my photos taken in Moscow .

Conclusion:

Moscow’s name brings a certain mystique, but once you’re there it might bring a different atmosphere than you expect. It’s big and sprawling, but beautiful in many ways. It can feel like a European capital on a grand scale, but you can definitely find its Russian side in there.

led cover app samsung

The urban sprawl of Moscow can be intimidating, but give it enough time and you’ll be rewarded with plenty to discover. All with the world’s best metro system to take you around.

I hope this guide can help you start to experience some of what Moscow contains. So grab your camera and capture all that Moscow has to offer for Street Photography!

Moscow has launched a massive facial recognition system. One of the vendors supplying the tools says ... [+] it's the biggest system of its kind in the world. (Photo by Andrei Makhonin\TASS via Getty Images)

Built on several tens of thousands of cameras and what's claimed to be one of the most advanced facial recognition systems on the planet, Moscow has been quietly switching on a massive surveillance project this month.

The software that's helping monitor all those faces is FindFace, the product of NtechLab, a company that some reports claimed would bring "an end to anonymity" with its FindFace app. Launched in the mid-2010s, it allowed users to take a picture of someone and match their face to their to social media profiles on Russian site Vkontakte (VK).

Since then, NtechLab shut down the consumer app and pivoted to government surveillance, this week revealing it’s being paid at least $3.2 million for deploying its tools across the Russian capital. The initial news was broken in Russian media on Tuesday.

NtechLab CEO Alex Minin claims, in an interview with Forbes , that it’s the biggest “live” facial recognition project in the world, even if there are larger non-real-time deployments. Real-time, live recognition can pick faces out in a crowd and instantly say whether or not they match those in police databases of wanted criminals. London’s Met Police have been testing out a similar system with Japanese provider NEC . Older, “archived” facial recognition is slower as police have to take recorded footage and run it through a facial recognition system to find a match.

There remain deep concerns about the privacy implications for such technology, given the constant live scanning of people’s faces. Combined with Russia’s poor human rights record, the surveillance system in Moscow will worry those fearful of a Putin-led Big Brother state. Just last year, Russian women’s rights activist Alyona Popova filed a lawsuit against the Moscow city government over the project, claiming it violated privacy rights. The lawsuit was swiftly thrown out of court , however.

The Best Window Air Conditioners To Keep Cool In The Warmer Months

Ukraine packed a cessna style plane with explosives added remote controls and kamikaze d it into a russian drone factory 600 miles away, new billionaires 2024 taylor swift magic johnson and 263 others join the ranks this year.

But Minin is proud of the work, saying the company has been working on the project for two years and it was now finally being switched on. “The technology can can work across hundred thousands of cameras in real time,” Minin claims. He says one of the unique selling points of the business’ facial recognition tech is that it doesn’t require training on databases of faces beforehand like most systems do; it uses “very neat neural networks” to made assessments as to whether a face is a match. That means there’s less chance of racial bias — something that other tools have been criticized for, Minin adds.

Will NTechLab’s tech ever reach the U.S.? It’s possible, given American government organizations rate the tech highly. It’s been ranked highly by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for detecting faces and human activities and, though there are some security concerns for U.S. government bodies working with Russian companies, NTechLab has a partnership with Genetec, a video surveillance provider that already has contracts with the American government.

It’ll be going up against some significant startups if it does emerge as a U.S. player, including ClearView, which was the subject of a New York Times investigation. The Peter Thiel-backed business scrapes social sites like Facebook and Twitter and helps police find matches with its massive database of faces. Minin wasn’t sure about that strategy, given it wasn’t dissimilar to what FindFace used to do. “[ClearView] are creating really bad perception in general about the face recognition,” he added.

NtechLab has also been working on some high-tech glasses, which a police officer wears and will alert them to possibly criminal faces as they march about the city. According to the NYT , ClearView appeared to be working on similar tech. NtechLab at least has a product, but it remains a prototype and is not part of the huge Moscow system. “At least, not yet,” said NtechLab’s comms chief Nikolay Grunin. “The technical capability to use them remains and the pilots still continue.”

Napoleon enters Moscow

led cover app samsung

One week after winning a bloody victory over the Russian army at the Battle of Borodino, Napoleon Bonaparte ’s Grande Armée enters the city of Moscow, only to find the population evacuated and the Russian army retreated again. Moscow was the goal of the invasion, but the deserted city held no czarist officials to sue for peace and no great stores of food or supplies to reward the French soldiers for their long march. Then, just after midnight, fires broke out across the city, apparently set by Russian patriots, leaving Napoleon’s massive army with no means to survive the coming Russian winter.

In 1812, French Emperor Napoleon I was still at the height of his fortunes. The Peninsular War against Britain was a thorn in the side of his great European empire, but he was confident that his generals would soon triumph in Spain. All that remained to complete his “Continental System”–a unilateral European blockade designed to economically isolate Britain and force its subjugation–was the cooperation of Russia. After earlier conflict, Napoleon and Alexander I kept a tenuous peace, but the Russian czar was unwilling to submit to the Continental System, which was ruinous to the Russian economy. To intimidate Alexander, Napoleon massed his forces in Poland in the spring of 1812, but still the czar resisted.

On June 24, Napoleon ordered his Grande Armée, the largest European military force ever assembled to that date, into Russia. The enormous army featured more than 500,000 soldiers and staff and included contingents from Prussia, Austria, and other countries under the sway of the French empire. Napoleon’s military successes lay in his ability to move his armies rapidly and strike quickly, but in the opening months of his Russian invasion he was forced to be content with a Russian army in perpetual retreat. The fleeing Russian forces adopted a “scorched earth” strategy, seizing or burning any supplies that the French might pillage from the countryside. Meanwhile, Napoleon’s supply lines became overextended as he advanced deeper and deeper into the Russian expanse.

Many in the czarist government were critical of the Russian army’s refusal to engage Napoleon in a direct confrontation. Under public pressure, Alexander named General Mikhail Kutuzov supreme commander in August, but the veteran of earlier defeats against Napoleon continued the retreat. Finally, Kutuzov agreed to halt at the town of Borodino, about 70 miles west of Moscow, and engage the French. The Russians built fortifications, and on September 7 the Grande Armée attacked. Napoleon was uncharacteristically cautious that day; he didn’t try to outflank the Russians, and he declined to send much-needed reinforcements into the fray. The result was a bloody and narrow victory and another retreat by the Russian army.

Although disturbed by the progress of the campaign, Napoleon was sure that once Moscow was taken Alexander would be forced to capitulate. On September 14, the French entered a deserted Moscow. All but a few thousand of the city’s 275,000 people were gone. Napoleon retired to a house on the outskirts of the city for the night, but two hours after midnight he was informed that a fire had broken out in the city. He went to the Kremlin, where he watched the flames continue to grow. Strange reports began to come in telling of Russians starting the fires and stoking the flames. Suddenly a fire broke out within the Kremlin, apparently set by a Russian military policeman who was immediately executed. With the firestorm spreading, Napoleon and his entourage were forced to flee down burning streets to Moscow’s outskirts and narrowly avoided being asphyxiated. When the flames died down three days later, more than two-thirds of the city was destroyed.

In the aftermath of the calamity, Napoleon still hoped Alexander would ask for peace. In a letter to the czar he wrote: “My lord Brother. Beautiful, magical Moscow exists no more. How could you consign to destruction the loveliest city in the world, a city that has taken hundreds of years to build?” The fire was allegedly set on the orders of Moscow Governor-General Feodor Rostopchin; though Rostopchin later denied the charge. Alexander said the burning of Moscow “illuminated his soul,” and he refused to negotiate with Napoleon.

After waiting a month for a surrender that never came, Napoleon was forced to lead his starving army out of the ruined city. Suddenly, Kutuzov’s army appeared and gave battle on October 19 at Maloyaroslavets. The disintegrating Grande Armée was forced to abandon the fertile, southern route by which it hoped to retreat and proceed back along the ravaged path over which it had originally advanced. During the disastrous retreat, Napoleon’s army suffered continual harassment from the merciless Russian army. Stalked by hunger, subzero temperatures, and the deadly lances of the Cossacks, the decimated army reached the Berezina River late in November, near the border with French-occupied Lithuania. However, the river was unexpectedly thawed, and the Russians had destroyed the bridges at Borisov.

Napoleon’s engineers managed to construct two makeshift bridges at Studienka, and on November 26 the bulk of his army began to cross the river. On November 29, the Russians pressed from the east, and the French were forced to burn the bridges, leaving some 10,000 stragglers on the other side. The Russians largely abandoned their pursuit after that point, but thousands of French troops continued to succumb to hunger, exhaustion, and the cold. In December, Napoleon abandoned what remained of his army and raced back to Paris, where people were saying he had died and a general had led an unsuccessful coup. He traveled incognito across Europe with a few cohorts and reached the capital of his empire on December 18. Six days later, the Grande Armée finally escaped Russia, having suffered a loss of more than 400,000 men during the disastrous invasion.

With Europe emboldened by his catastrophic failure in Russia, an allied force rose up to defeat Napoleon in 1814. Exiled to the island of Elba, he escaped to France in early 1815 and raised a new army that enjoyed fleeting success before its crushing defeat at Waterloo in June 1815. Napoleon was then exiled to the remote island of Saint Helena, where he died six years later.

You fly for hours, anticipating your arrival, wanting to take in the area and the views of another country far away from your departure airport. The airport and the area you leave from is detailed and visually full, and you know you have a great airport scenery waiting for you at the other end of the flight, then when you arrive...

...  Nothing, but flat plain emptiness and the same boring standard X-Plane basic scenery, worse there is no OSM (Open Street Map) data in the tile either, so there is no road or autogen detailing in there as well, just well nothing.

When Drzewiecki Design released their UUEE Sheremetyevo Airport XP , I loved it because it was like a visitor from the Cold War past, the Soviet era, and it was also great scenery and great choice of a destination to fly to from any of the capitals of Europe...  but that was it, just this great airport in the middle of nothingness, bland....   zero ville.

Moscow old.jpg

Now Drzewiecki Design has released "Moscow City"  a scenery package to compliment their UUEE Sheremetyevo, and boy how much a difference this release has done to this totally boring area.

To get the full first impression effect I flew JARDesign's A320neo from EFHK Vatnaa, Helsinki to UUEE Sheremetyevo which is flight Finnair AY153 which is a daily 9.25am service.

Moscow City_ Dep Vatnaa 1.jpg

First Impressions

I was surprised to start picking up scenery still quite away out from central Moscow, as I approached my 6000ft transition altitude. Here there was buildings and houses and the physical visual notes you were arriving somewhere.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 1.jpg

Looking hard at the horizon through the A320's windows and you could see the iconic silhouette of Moscow city.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 5.jpg

The scenery provides lite versions of all Moscow's Airports, this is UUWW Vnukovo, which was easily recognisable as you flew over. As you fly closer to the centre of the city the density of the objects below becomes quite heavy as the landscape fills in. You have all kinds of infrastructure including, blocks of flats, tower blocks, factories, housing, skyscrapers and almost everything that makes up an urban landscape, in all there is 2000 custom-made buildings that makes up this impressive scenery.

A note here in that you don't get that rolling as you move feeling effect where as it just suddenly appears in front of you and then quickly disappears behind as soon as you have flown out over the area. There is a slight effect of that as there has to be, but only in the far distance and as you can see from the images the views in every direction are widespread and visually it is very good to excellent.

The "Seven Sisters" or "Stalinist skyscrapers" built from 1947 to 1953 are all in the scenery with their "Wedding Cake" architecture or officially  Russian Baroque               - Gothic style. Most famous is the Moscow State University, front and centre of the image below.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival LG 16.jpg

Central Moscow is excellent and extremely realistic, and you really need a travel guide to pick out the landmarks and detail, but it is hard to miss the Red Kremlin complex  and St Peter's square from the air.  Both sides of the aircraft is visually full until you have crossed right over the city.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 7.jpg

I am not a fan of the generated 3d OSM scenery, but this is very good in blending in perfectly with the X-Plane default scenery and giving you a smooth transition from country to urban and back again with great realism.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 14.jpg

Over the city and turning north towards Sheremetyevo, another Moscow airport UUMU Chkalovsky is represented on the turn.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 17.jpg

The city skyline is now easily visible on landing at Sheremetyevo, and that really helps in the arrival factor, more so in that the cities building infrastructure spread now comes up and around the airport to fill the gaps to the city itself, and making the original  Sheremetyevo scenery that was so open and lonely in the old X-Plane view is now a big part of the whole in this combination. No doubt it really brings this always good scenery now alive and very usable.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 19.jpg

Sheremetyevo Airport

Before we move on to the city itself. It is important to note the area around UUEE Sheremetyevo itself.

Moscow Sheremetyevo 1.jpg

Compare the large image above to the earlier image at the start of this review to see the amount of change there is around UUEE Sheremetyevo with the addition of this Moscow City package. The two sceneries are of course meant to be used together, and in reality it would look odd if you had Moscow City scenery installed without the Sheremetyevo scenery included to fill out the northern areas. A highlight is that both sceneries together form a single whole, as the areas between the airport and the central city area are well filled in and that gives you a huge area of coverage and the full visual aspect.

To get a closer lower look at the Moscow Center I commandeered Dreamfoil's lovely Bell 407.

Moscow Buildings 1.jpg

There is a 4.000km² total area covered with this scenery here, and you have expect some sort of building replication to cover all that ground. There is of course but as well in the fact there is also enough variations as to not keep it all interesting and not obviously visually obvious.

Moscow Buildings 2.jpg

The closer you go to the central area, the variations in the buildings change there in style and density as well. And then more of the iconic buildings start to appear as you get closer in again to the middle. The business district is excellent, with a lot of business towers and the more modern futuristic skyscraper architecture that stands out in every view point in eye scans across the city.

Moscow Buildings 5.jpg

The more recent is in tune with the more older Stalinist era that makes up the Moscow skyline.

The Kremlin Complex and the Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed (St Basil's) is excellently represented and so is "Red Square"

Moscow Buildings 10.jpg

There are Orthodox churches everywhere and all the big icons in the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Grand Arena of the Central Lenin Stadium, Otkrytive Arena and department stores, museums and power stations and more....

I did have issues with many buildings floating, including the Kremlin. I tried both "Runways follow terrain contours" on and off with no flattening of the objects and there is no information in the manual either on how to fix the problem.

Night lighting is very good, yes there is again a repeatable pattern to the majority of the hundreds of the apartment blocks that does stand out, but the more individual buildings do all have that personal touch and some buildings look really very good.

Moscow Buildings Night 1.jpg

The highlight here is the business district which looks magnificent and is very realistic from any direction at night as is the lit Stadium.

Moscow Buildings Night 3.jpg

Although away from the central area the Ostankino Tower that stands 540.1 metres (1,772 ft) tall, and is the tallest freestanding structure in Europe and it looks great at night and is a very good position indicator from the air from any direction.

Included Moscow Airports

As noted also included in the scenery are seven airports and several helipads.

UUWW Vnukovo

Moscow UUWW Vnukovo 1.jpg

The futuristic Vnukovo International is very good for a lite version, with great terminals and lots of small detailing. Only thing missing is the static aircraft and a bit more ramp equipment, but otherwise it is highly usable.

UUDD Domodedovo

Moscow UUDD Domodedovo 1.jpg

The oldest of Moscow's International airports is Domodedovo. Again it is quite devoid of static aircraft and I am not crazy about the blue terminal glass work, but it is still a very workable scenery to use and has a lot of well made objects.

UUBW Zhukovsky

Moscow UUBW Zhukovsky 1.jpg

Zhukovsky was a major aircraft testing facility since the  cold war years, with most of the major Russian Experimental Design Bureau's having facilities here. It is also now used by the Ministry of Emergency Situations! and cargo carriers. It was also used as a test site for the Soviet Buran  reusable Spacecraft because it has the world's second longest pubic runway at at 5,402 m (17,723 ft). Mostly it is a collection of very large hangars but has a lot of static aircraft in storage.

UUMO Ostafyevo International Business Airport

Moscow UUMo Ostafyevo 1.jpg

A former military airbase. Ostafyevo features a new modern glass terminal, and caters primarily to business aviation.

UUMU Chkalovsky

Moscow UUMU Chkalovsky 1.jpg

Chkalovsky is a military logistics airport that is famous for it's support for the Russian Space program and transport to Star City and the Yuri A. Gagarin State Scientific Research-and-Testing Cosmonaut Training Center. Yuri Gagarin left here on his final flight before crashing by the town of Kirzhach.

UUBM Myachkovo Airport

Moscow UUBM Myachkovo 1.jpg

Myachkovo is a small General Aviation Airport that is owned by the Finpromko company. Cargo aircraft up to the size of the Ilyushin ll-76 freighter can also use the airport.

UUMB Kubinka

Moscow UUMB Kubinka 1.jpg

Kubinka has been a significant Russian military airbase and large airshows are held here to show off the Russian military might.

There is also provided UUU1 Kremlin Airport, within the Kremlin walls, but I couldn't get it to work? There are two pads in H1 and H2.

Your first thoughts after reviewing this excellent Moscow scenery is not with this actual package. You then wish that you could have this extensive scenery at London, Rome, Madrid, Berlin and the list could go on with any of your favorite European Cities, and don't count a load in the Middle East and Asia. But a London scenery like this would certainly be a godsend in our X-Plane world. Drzewiecki Design has already done Warsaw and Manhattan, so there is always hope.

It is not cheap either and you need to add in their UUEE Sheremetyevo scenery package on top of that as well. But you get an awful lot of ground covered here for your money, with the area covered here that is extensive...  huge and flying into Moscow will never be the same again.

A few areas to note in one that in my case a few of the buildings floated, the download is huge load at 1.4gb and this Russian area is not the best for navigation aids and programming FMS units as most waypoints are not recognised. Most of the airports ILS coordinates also have to checked and recalibrated (Drzewiecki Design do provide all the correct coordinates) so there is a little work to do to set up repeat services but the work is worth the results.

Not only is the actual Moscow city and all it's buildings supported, you also get seven (if lite versions) of Moscow's other airports included as well, but the framerate processing of all this huge amount of objects and scale is pretty good to excellent. Framerate does hurt more on a lower (helicopter) level and certainly you need a computer with a little extra power is in no doubt required, but overall for the size of the area the scenery is extremely efficient.

Yes I was impressed by this Moscow City Scenery, as this once very barren area of X-Plane is now a very attractive repeat destination as nothing can give you a greater fulfilment than seeing your destination appear in the distance and then give you a huge visual experience as you fly over and approach your destination.

Moscow City certainly delivers that and more...  Just more sceneries like this please!

Thank you for this very thorough (as always) review. I just bought it (it's on sale) and have only one disappointment so far: Red Square has no ILS or any landing aids at all for that matter. And what a nightmare of an approach! Also I was hoping the package would include an add-on that gives my c172 a big cup holder for my Stoli. Otherwise the scenery is gorgeous. What a country!

What is resolution?

Resolution refers to the number of pixels a screen can show. The higher the number of pixels a screen can show , the sharper the image quality is. Baseline full HD features 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1080p) and there are sharper standards, QHD (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) and 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160 pixels)

Larger Screens, higher resolution

Pixel density is another factor when it comes to picture quality. Larger screens require higher resolution to maintain the same pixel density as smaller screens with lower resolution. Monitors with higher resolution deliver crisper details and provide more screen space.

The features of the LED cover on Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are identical, although the physical dimensions of the case for these 3 phones are different. So, in this guide, Galaxy S20 refers to Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra .

What are the unique features of the Galaxy S20 LED back cover?

Samsung introduced the first generation of LED back cover with Galaxy S10 . It was slightly changed for Galaxy Note 10 (and Note 10+).

So, Galaxy S20 LED back cover (aka Galaxy S20 LED cover in some regions) is actually the second generation of this cover with dramatic changes in materials.

Please do not confuse LED back cover with Galaxy S20 LED View (wallet) cover . The later is a flip cover with a pocket inside for a card. While Galaxy S20 LED back cover (or Galaxy S20 LED cover) is a one-piece back cover.

The unique features of the Galaxy S20 LED back cover includes:

  • Light up when facedown . The back cover can light up when you put the phone face down.
  • Customizable lighting style: mood lighting or LED icon .  When Galaxy S20 is facing downwards, You can customize the lighting as mood lighting or a LED icon.
  • LED notification icons for message apps and incoming calls . You will see the notification icons on the back when a notification from any message apps comes or when there is an incoming call. Please note, the notification LED icon is only available for messages apps including Messages, WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, Facebook Messenger and a few others. The notification LED icon cannot be customized (this is different from the Galaxy S20 LED View Wallet Cover ).
  • Camera timer countdown . If the timer for the rear camera is turned on, the countdown will be shown on both the screen and the cover.
  • LED icons for the rear cameras . When you open the  camera app , and the rear cameras are active, a LED icon you chose will be shown on the back cover.
  • Exclusive dynamic wallpapers for the Home screen and lock screen .  The wallpapers are updated regularly and automatically through Galaxy Friends services. Although this is not a new feature for Samsung's accessories, the LED themed dynamic wallpapers are quite interesting. Please note, for some unknown reasons, Galaxy S10 LED back cover was not compatible with this service.
  • Galaxy S20 LED back cover shortcuts on the lock screen . You will also get some additional app shortcuts on the lock screen. You can add some frequently used apps to the Galaxy Galaxy S20 LED back cover shortcuts.

The material used in the Galaxy S20 LED back cover also improved significantly compared to that on Galaxy S10 LED back cover (see the review of Galaxy S10 LOED back cover ). Instead of the slippery and mirror-like plastic used on Galaxy S10 LED back cover, the new material is very smooth with fabric-like textures. It is the best material used in Galaxy S20 accessories.

Some of these features are not available on the LED back cover for Galaxy S10.

How does Galaxy S20 LED back cover work?

Galaxy S20 LED back cover needs power. But there is no battery inside the cover.

It uses Galaxy S20 battery through NFC (you may check Galaxy S20 layout on the location of NFC on Galaxy S20), just like Galaxy S20 LED View cover does.

So, technically, the LED back cover may affect your battery life. But the impact is very marginal.

The communication between Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 LED back cover is also through NFC.

Such NFC communication is NOT affected by NFC settings on the phone. The LED cover will still work as usual even if you turned off the NFC on your Galaxy S20.

Once you put on the Galaxy S20 LED back cover, the setup should start automatically and you just follow the on-screen guidance.  It may take a few mins to download and configure the Galaxy Friends depending on your internet connection speed.

If you remove the back cover (e.g., to change SIM card , or to use wireless PowerShare ), all relevant features will be deactivated. But they are not deleted. The setup will be faster when you put the cover on again.

Change settings for Galaxy S20 LED back cover

You can access the settings page for Galaxy S20 LED cover from Galaxy S20 Settings (which can be accessed from the Settings app icon in the Galaxy S20 Home screen /Apps screen, or from the gear icon in Galaxy S20 quick settings panel /notification panel).

Tap Advanced features, as shown in the screenshot below.

Galaxy S20 Settings

In the Advanced Features page, tap Accessories , as shown above.

Now, in the Accessories page, you should find at least two entries, as shown in the screenshot below.

  • LED cover  (A)
  • Smart accessory settings (B) under Samsung Galaxy Friends.

If you cannot find these entries, it means the cover is not recognized by Galaxy S20 yet. In this case, you may try to remove the cover, then apply it again. Very rarely, you may need to reboot Galaxy S20 after the initial setup.

Please note, all software including Galaxy Friends are installed automatically. You do NOT need to manually install any apps .

Change settings for Galaxy S20 LED back cover

After tapping the LED cover (A), you can see the feature options for the Galaxy S20 LED back cover, as shown above.

The options include:

  • Turn on/off light up when face down .
  • Choose the cover lighting style as mood lighting .
  • Choose the lighting style as an LED icon.
  • Set the timer to turn off cover lighting .
  • Choose an LED camera icon .
  • Turn on/off  LED camera icon .
  • Turn on/off camera timer countdown .
  • Manage apps (message apps only) for LED notification icons on the cover .

We will cover these features individually in subsequent sections.

Use mood lighting

Mood lighting mimics twinkling stars in the sky. It lights up LEDs on the whole cover randomly and dynamically.  The fading-in and fading-out effects of the LED light may give you the illusion of the twinkling of stars.

You need to enable “ light up when face down ” (1) and choose mood lighting (2), as shown in the screenshot earlier, not LED icons, for cover lighting to use this feature.

By default, if you lift up Galaxy S20 (as long as it is not facing down on a surface), mood lighting will stop.` Otherwise, it will be always on.

You can set a timer to stop mood lighting automatically. Tap Auto turn off cover lighting (4) in the LED cover settings page (shown earlier) to set a timer.

As shown below, you can set the timer from 10 seconds to 10 minutes to turn off the mood lighting automatically.

If you set cover lighting as LED icons (read on), this timer also applies to the LED icon.

Please note, the timer was added for Galaxy S20 LED back cover. On Galaxy S10 , there is no timer option to turn off mood lighting automatically.

Use mood lighting

Show LED icons

By default, cover lighting is set to mood lighting on Galaxy S20 LED back cover.

If you want, you can change it to a LED icon.

In the LED cover settings page shown below, under style, tap LED icon to show a LED icon, instead of mood lighting on the cover.

As shown in the screenshot below, once you set the cover lighting style to LED icons, you get the option to choose a LED icon.

By default, the LED cover uses the Smile icon.  You can tap LED icons to change it, as shown below.

Show LED icons on Gala;xy S20 LED back cover

Now, you can choose one from other 15 LED icons, as shown above.

Please note, unlike the LED wallet (LED view) cover , the Galaxy S20 LED back cover (LED cover) does not support own LED icons.  There is no LED editor app loaded to customize LED icons when you use the LED back cover.

Besides, unlike Galaxy S10  LED back cover , the LED icon on Galaxy S20 back cover lights up only when the phone is facing down, and it follows the timer settings.

On Galaxy S10, the LED icon does not recognize the phone orientation or timer, you have to use the notification shade to stop it. There is no timer to control LED icons on the Galaxy S10 LED back cover.

Use and configure the camera LED icon on Galaxy S20 LED cover

The camera LED icon lets you show an icon on the back cover automatically when you are using the rear-facing cameras.

You can use the switch (marked as 6 in the screenshot shown earlier) to turn on or turn off the camera LED icon.

By default, the Simile icon is used. You can tap the Camera LED icon (5) field to change the icon to any of the other 15 LED icons.

Show camera timer countdown

The Galaxy S20 LED back cover can also show the timer countdown on the back cover when you take photos if:

  • You are using the rear cameras.
  • You enabled the camera timer. Please refer to this guide on how to enable timer on Galaxy S20 camera.

The camera timer countdown can be used together with the camera LED icon.

Manage message notifications on Galaxy S20 LED back cover

Galaxy S20 LED cover can only display notifications for incoming calls and messages . This is different from the Galaxy S20 flip covers like Galaxy S20 S View cover or LED View (wallet) over.

For notifications from messaging apps, by default, only Samsung Messages app is included. You can tap Message notifications (marked as 8 in the screenshot shown earlier) to add other messaging apps.

The supported apps include WhatsApp, Telegram, Google Hangouts, WeChat, and Skype.

How to use Galaxy Friends for Galaxy S20 LED cover?

As mentioned, when you apply the Galaxy S20 LED back cover, Galaxy Friends will be loaded automatically.

You can choose not to accept the terms and conditions and therefore not to use it. All the features mentioned above are NOT affected.

For Galaxy S20 LED back cover, Galaxy Friends adds a few additional features, including:

  • A special theme (mainly wallpapers for Galaxy S20 home screen, lock screen and apps screen) matching the colour of the cover.
  • New themed lock screen with special (and dynamic) wallpapers, shortcuts, and clock style.

The new lock screen, as shown below, looks quite different from the one you configured.

The LED icon themed wallpaper will overwrite whatever your settings for the Galaxy S20 lock screen . There is also one addition button near the bottom right for more app shortcuts.

The new clock style can be customized. But the wallpaper cannot be customized unless you turn off the new lock screen.

You can still use other advanced features of Galaxy S20 wallpapers on the lock screen and home screen . But by default, Galaxy Friends will overwrite them.

smart accessories settings (Galaxy Friends settings) for Galaxy S20 LED cover

Change settings for Galaxy Friends for Galaxy S20 LED cover

The settings for Galaxy Friends can be accessed from smart accessories settings.

In the Settings — Advanced features — Accessories page, tap Smart accessory settings (B, marked in the screenshot shown earlier).

In the Smart accessories settings page, as shown above, tap Registered accessories .

Now, you should find the LED cover, as shown below.

The colour in the name matches the colour of your LED back cover automatically. You cannot choose different colour profiles for your cover.

Change settings for Galaxy Friends for Galaxy S20 LED cover

In the Galaxy Friends settings page for Galaxy S20 LED cover,  as shown above, you can:

  • Enable/disable the special lock screen (I).
  • Enable/disable special themes  (II).
  • Remove the Galaxy Friends service (III).

Please note, when you choose the Remove services , all Galaxy Friends features (special lock screen and special theme) will be erased. All your personal data (e.g., location) associated with such features will be removed as well.

The Galaxy S20 lock screen and the theme will revert back to what you used before enabling the Galaxy Friends services. You can then customize your Galaxy S20 with themes and wallpapers as usual.

This operation does NOT affect any features of the Galaxy S20 LED back cover discussed in the “ How to use Galaxy S20 LED back cover? ” section

Galaxy Friends will NOT be uninstalled or hidden unless you remove the Galaxy S20 LED cover.

You can re-enable Galaxy Friends in the Smart accessory settings page.

Galaxy Friends does not affect the always-on display on Galaxy S20 .

Please note, you can also quickly access the Galaxy Friends settings page for Galaxy S20 LED cover from the notification panel.

As shown below, you can tap the gear icon next to the notification to access the Galaxy Friends settings page directly.

The notification appears when Galaxy Friends service is activated.

Use and customize Galaxy S20 LED back cover shortcuts

As you already know, you can add two app shortcuts on Galaxy S20 lock screen so that you can access these apps quickly. You can also customize the app shortcuts on the Galaxy S20 lock screen .

Galaxy Friends for the  Galaxy S20 LED cover allows you to use up to 6 app shortcuts.

You can expand the app shortcuts by tapping the 3 dots on the lock screen.

Now, as shown in the screenshot below, you can tap Edit or + button to add or remove app shortcuts.

Use and customize Galaxy S20 LED back cover shortcuts

There are up to 6 spots for app shortcuts, as shown above.

By default, Galaxy Friends migrates the existing two apps you set up in the Galaxy S20 lock screen settings , then adds two of its own.

You can customize these app shortcuts as you want. Of course, it is limited to the apps installed on the phone.

Also, because the shortcuts are residing on the lock screen, most features/apps will ask you to unlock the phone to use them.

If you use face recognition to unlock Galaxy S20 , and you did not disable “Stay on lock screen” , then you can easily use apps from the shortcuts.

Caveats of using Galaxy S20 LED back cover

There are no known compatibility issues with the Galaxy S20 LED back cover. But there are some caveats when using the LED cover.

#1. Wireless charging will overwrite LED cover settings temporally

When you put Galaxy S20 on the wireless charging pad to charge the battery wirelessly , mood lighting or LED icons will be disabled immediately, even if you keep the phone face down (i.e., put the charging pad on the phone).

#2. You may have to remove the LED cover when you use wireless PowerShare

When you charge Galaxy S20 battery with a wireless charging pad, normally, it is not necessary to remove the Galaxy S20 LED back cover.

But if you use Galaxy S20 battery to charge other devices through wireless PowerShare , very likely, you have to remove the cover.

Review of Galaxy S20 LED back cover

The Galaxy S20 LED back cover is a decent official accessory for Galaxy S20. It is, of course, far better than the clear view cover in Galaxy S20 box .

The advantages of the S20 LED back cover include:

  • Fantastic material quality (and build quality).
  • Perfect fit for the phone.
  • Moderate protection for the back panel.
  • Mood lighting is unique.
  • Camera LED icon and camera timer countdown is quite interesting.
  • Galaxy Friends adds some useful and unique features.
  • Easy to hold.

The disadvantages of the LED back cover include:

  • Overpriced.
  • Minimal protection for the screen.
  • No customization the mood lighting.
  • No customization for notification icons.
  • Notification icons only work with incoming calls, message apps, and a few Samsung apps.

Anyway, if you want to get a decent back cover with some fancy features, the LED back cover is a good choice.

Please note, like other official Samsung Galaxy S20 cases (e.g., G alaxy S20 S View cover (clear view cover) , or  LED wallet cover (LED view cover) ), the top part of the cover is covered (with a hole for the mic). If you need to  change the SIM card  or insert a micro SD card, you need to remove the LED cover.
