At least seven out of 10 Americans agree that presentation skills are essential for a successful career [ 1 ]. Although it might be tempting to think that these are skills reserved for people interested in public speaking roles, they're critical in a diverse range of jobs. For example, you might need to brief your supervisor on research results.

Presentation skills are also essential in other scenarios, including working with a team and explaining your thought process, walking clients through project ideas and timelines, and highlighting your strengths and achievements to your manager during performance reviews.

Whatever the scenario, you have very little time to capture your audience’s attention and get your point across when presenting information—about three seconds, according to research [ 2 ]. Effective presentation skills help you get your point across and connect with the people you’re communicating with, which is why nearly every employer requires them.

Understanding what presentation skills are is only half the battle. Honing your presenting techniques is essential for mastering presentations of all kinds and in all settings.

What are presentation skills?

Presentation skills are the abilities and qualities necessary for creating and delivering a compelling presentation that effectively communicates information and ideas. They encompass what you say, how you structure it, and the materials you include to support what you say, such as slides, videos, or images.

You'll make presentations at various times in your life. Examples include:

Making speeches at a wedding, conference, or another event

There’s an art to public speaking. Just like any other type of art, this is one that requires practice. Improving your presentation skills will help reduce miscommunications, enhance your time management capabilities, and boost your leadership skills. Here are some ways you can improve these skills:

Work on self-confidence.

When you’re confident, you naturally speak more clearly and with more authority. Taking the time to prepare your presentation with a strong opening and compelling visual aids can help you feel more confident. Other ways to improve your self-confidence include practicing positive self-talk, surrounding yourself with positive people, and avoiding comparing yourself (or your presentation) to others.

Develop strategies for overcoming fear.

Your presentation isn’t about you; it’s about the material you’re presenting. Sometimes, reminding yourself of this ahead of taking center stage can help take you out of your head, allowing you to connect effectively with your audience. The following are some of the many actions you can take on the day of your presentation.

Arrive early.

Since you may have a bit of presentation-related anxiety, it’s important to avoid adding travel stress. Give yourself an abundance of time to arrive at your destination, and take into account heavy traffic and other unforeseen events. By arriving early, you also give yourself time to meet with any on-site technicians, test your equipment, and connect with people ahead of the presentation.

Become familiar with the layout of the room.

Arriving early also gives you time to assess the room and figure out where you want to stand. Experiment with the acoustics to determine how loudly you need to project your voice, and test your equipment to make sure everything connects and appears properly with the available setup. This is an excellent opportunity to work out any last-minute concerns and move around to familiarize yourself with the setting for improved stage presence.

Listen to presenters ahead of you.

When you watch others present, you'll get a feel for the room's acoustics and lighting. You can also listen for any data that’s relevant to your presentation and revisit it during your presentation—this can make the presentation more interactive and engaging.

Use note cards.

Writing yourself a script could provide you with more comfort. To prevent sounding too robotic or disengaged, only include talking points in your note cards in case you get off track. Using note cards can help keep your presentation organized while sounding more authentic to your audience.

Never underestimate the power of great communication. It can help you land the job of your dreams, attract investors to back your idea, or elevate your stature within your organization. But while there are plenty of good speakers in the world, you can set yourself apart out by being the person who can deliver something great over and over. Here are a few tips for business professionals who want to move from being good speakers to great ones: be concise (the fewer words, the better); never use bullet points (photos and images paired together are more memorable); don’t underestimate the power of your voice (raise and lower it for emphasis); give your audience something extra (unexpected moments will grab their attention); rehearse (the best speakers are the best because they practice — a lot).

The best presenters capture audience attention from the beginning. They know that a lackluster start to anything will immediately sow seeds of disengagement.

Whether or not you believe human attention spans are like goldfish , the fact is, a strong start to your presentation will fill the room with energy that perks people up, while a weak start paves the way for staring off into space and discretely checking email.

Here are a few tips to start your next meeting presentation right:

Ask a question

Everyone likes feeling heard. One of the easiest ways to hook an audience from the start is by inviting them to respond to a relevant prompt. If a VP of marketing were giving a presentation about the company’s upcoming brand refresh, they might start by asking something like “How many people here feel like they have a good sense of how we’re perceived as a company?”

Share a story

As humans, we’re wired to pay attention to stories. They’re especially useful when the subject matter at hand isn’t particularly interesting on its own. If a CEO were giving a presentation aimed at motivating the entire company, they might share a story about how many people it once took to operate a battleship.

Effective presentations are usually the result of careful preparation. Here are a few skills to refine during the preparation phase:

Knowing your audience

Giving an effective presentation means knowing your audience. To earn and sustain their attention, you need to assess what they already know about the subject and how much they care about it.

Use this information to calibrate your approach. You don’t want to assume they’re enthusiastic experts if they’re not, but you also want to respect their intelligence by meeting them where they are without lecturing them.

It’s a delicate balancing act, but when you get it right, you’ll leave them enough room to figure some things out on their own.

WHAT Ask questions that anyone in the audience could answer. ‍ WHY This allows you to engage the room and keep the audience energy level high.

Framing your story

If you’ve ever watched TEDTalks, you know firsthand that many of the best presentations unfold like a detective story. The speaker presents a problem, describes the quest for a solution, and leads the audience to a collective “aha” moment where their perspective shifts and they become even more engaged. 

Take the time to plot your points in a meaningful way so that your message is not only easy to follow, but also easy to remember. That means eliminating any diversions that don’t serve the story. 

When framed correctly, even the most serious and complex subjects can be riveting.

<span class="h-circle">3</span> When to use a PowerPoint and when not to

PowerPoints have become the de facto tool of choice for meeting presentations. You can share visuals, advance slides with the click of a mouse, and they don’t take a ton of technical or design chops to look pretty.

The problem is, people tend to hide behind them. While it’s undeniably handy, PowerPoint isn’t the best vehicle for every presentation.

You should use a PowerPoint when:

• You want to review team progress against metrics
• You need to share a revenue report
• You have a lot of technical and/or data-rich information to convey

You shouldn’t use a PowerPoint when:  

• You need to create a strong connection with your audience
• You have an important story to tell (e.g. why the company is pivoting)
• You want to motivate and inspire people

If you’re still on the fence about whether you should use a PowerPoint for your next presentation, consider the goal of the meeting.

When your meeting goal is something straightforward, like assigning action items or reviewing team performance, go for the PowerPoint. 

If you’re aiming to convey something less cerebral—and potentially more emotional—don’t distance yourself from the message. Leave PowerPoint (and all technology) out of the equation.

<span class="h-circle">4</span> Presentation tips and tricks

There are a few universal tips that will make your next presentation more effective no matter what it’s about:

Follow a logical structure ‍ Even if you can’t think of a relevant story, the information you present have a clear structure to keep people on track.

Slow down ‍ Speaking too fast breeds boredom and confusion. Even if you think you talk slow, talk slower.

Use questions as segues ‍ In addition to being great presentation starters, asking questions enables the presenter to shift from one topic to another without losing momentum.

Build your confidence ‍ Letting your personality shine through is a surefire way to convince people they should listen. Practice your presentation until it feels like you’re talking to a friend.

3M Settlement with Public Water Suppliers to Address PFAS in Drinking Water Receives Final Court Approval

• Agreement includes pre-tax present value commitment of up to $10.3 billion payable over 13 years
• Supports PFAS remediation for U.S. public water suppliers (PWS) across the country that have detected any form of PFAS at any level or may do so in the future

ST. PAUL, Minn. , April 1, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- 3M today announced that on Friday, March 29, the company's previously announced settlement agreement with U.S. public water suppliers (PWS) received final approval from the U.S. District Court in Charleston, South Carolina.

The now-finalized agreement will support PWS that detect PFAS at any level or may do so in the future and will benefit U.S.-based PWS that provide drinking water to Americans across the country. The agreement received overwhelming support and participation from U.S. PWS, and the court resolved the small number of objections that were raised in favor of the settlement.

"This is yet another important step forward for 3M as we continue to deliver on our priorities. The final approval of this settlement and continued progress toward exiting all PFAS manufacturing by the end of 2025 will further our efforts to reduce risk and uncertainty as we move forward," said 3M chairman and CEO Mike Roman.

As previously disclosed, 3M recorded an accrual of $10.3 billion for this matter, which reflects the pre-tax present value of the expected payments over 13 years under the agreement. Payments under the agreement are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2024, provided there are no pending appeals of the final approval order. 3M also continues to actively engage in insurance recovery activities.

The table below sets forth the expected pre-tax payments that 3M would make assuming the nominal $12.5B settlement cap is reached.

Kelly: Does Diggs' Departure Mean Buffalo's Dominance of AFC East Is Over?

Trading Stefon Diggs to Houston was the latest in a series of moves that likely will weaken the Buffalo Bills and open up the AFC East division

Ding dong, the AFC East powerhouse is dead.

Well, maybe the Buffalo Bills still have a pulse, seemingly on life support considering we don’t know what’s next for that franchise.

At the very least, Buffalo’s run as the four-time division champions should be coming to a close based on the roster purge that franchise has undergone this offseason.

The move that should substantially close the gap between the Miami Dolphins and the Bills was Wednesday's trade that sent four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs, and a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Houston Texans for a 2025 second-round pick.

HOW MUCH DOES DIGGS' DEPARTURE WEAKEN BILLS?

Considering Diggs wasn’t shy about letting the world know he was unhappy in Buffalo, for whatever reason, the fact that the diva receiver was moved this offseason wasn’t completely shocking. 

But this trade seems more like a salary, and possibly a personality, dump than it was a franchise strategically positioning itself to improve for the upcoming season.

The Diggs trade was another cascading domino of a team acknowledging that its championship window was closing, and beginning the process of retooling its roster to make a resurgent push a season or two from now.

As good as quarterback Josh Allen is, and he’s clearly one of the top 10 players in the NFL, and a Dolphins assassin, the Bills have now had a mad exodus of starting talent.

Not only has Buffalo lost Diggs, and fellow starting receiver Gabe Davis this offseason, the Bills also released center Mitch Morse, cornerback Tre’Davious White and safety Jordan Poyer, who signed with the Dolphins. Linebackers Leonard Floyd and Tyrel Dodson have also taken their talents elsewhere, moving on from Buffalo via free agency.

COST OF DOING BUSINESS

When teams take an all-in approach to win a Lombardi Trophy, which is what Buffalo did when it acquired Diggs four seasons ago and then signed Von Miller to a lucrative, but irresponsible six-year, $120 million deal in 2022, eventually the bill comes due.

The unloading of Diggs and his $19 million salary is basically Buffalo’s attempt at paying down exorbitant credit card debt, and possibly give Allen a fresh start with emotionally stable receivers like Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins, who both were added in free agency this offseason.

But the bottom line is a receiver unit that features Samuel, Hollins, Khalil Shakir, Andy Isabella and Tyrell Shavers isn’t keeping Kader Kohou up at night like the thought of facing Diggs would.

So unless there’s a second act to this latest NFL soap opera, and the Bills have another game-changing receiver in their scope, it's safe to conclude that Buffalo is coming back to the pack a little and that a Dolphins team that continues to retool its roster has closed some ground on the division’s biggest bully.

While the Dolphins have some voids to fill of their own because of the free agent exodus of 2024, which led to the departures of Christian Wilkins, Robert Hunt, Andrew Van Ginkel, Brandon Jones and DeShon Elliott, none of those players had the impact that Diggs had on the Bills during their tenure.

And now that Diggs is gone, Miami’s chances of dethroning Buffalo are better because Allen needs to find a new favorite target.

Deadly nor'easter lingers across New England

A deadly, late-season nor’easter pounded the Northeast as the system meandered off the New England coast Thursday, bringing damaging wind gusts, rain and heavy snow from Pennsylvania to Maine.

BOSTON – A deadly late-season nor’easter that has hammered the Northeast and New England with drenching rain, heavy snow and gusty wind continues to pummel the region Friday. 

Snow will continue at times for Vermont , New Hampshire and Maine , but the worst of the weather should be on a downward trend by Saturday, the FOX Forecast Center said.

HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER

Tragically, two people lost their lives during the recent storm in Pennsylvania when trees fell onto their cars. One of the victims was an 82-year-old woman who was waiting at a stoplight in Collegeville on Wednesday when a tree fell and crushed her car.

A 70-year-old man was also killed when a tree fell onto his car in Aston Township late Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

Another death was reported in New York when police say a tree fell onto a car on Route 128 in Armonk , killing the driver. Police said the driver was the only person in the car then and was later identified as the wife of a New York Yankees front office executive .

More than a foot of snow falls across New England

Significant snow totals have been reported across the Northeast and New England, with plenty more left to go.

Since Wednesday, as much as 21.5 inches of snow have fallen in Rochester , Vermont, and Shapleigh , Maine.

"Oh my gosh. This is kind of wild. It’s April 4th, and we have a snow day and we haven’t had a snow day all year," Plymouth State University Professor Mark Fischler told FOX Weather Correspondent Katie Byrne in Plymouth , New Hampshire.

Late-season nor'easter blasts New Hampshire

FOX Weather Correspondent Katie Byrne is in Plymouth, New Hampshire, where heavy, wet snow forced officials to close schools and has led to more than 150,000 power outages statewide.

Up to 2 feet of total snow expected in some areas 

The higher elevations of the Green and White mountains, as well as the Adirondacks, will see the highest snowfall totals and could pick up 2 feet or more.

Northern and western Massachusetts could see several inches of snow by the storm's end, with some areas possibly seeing 8-12 inches.

Plowable snow is also expected across northern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire .

Lighter accumulations are expected in the lower elevations and farther south. About 1-3 inches could fall in places like northern Connecticut , as well as southern and central Massachusetts and parts of central New York.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. EDT Saturday for Franklin, Western Clinton and Western Essex counties in New York where additional snow accumulations of up to 7 inches are expected. The Winter Storm Warnings in the region have been canceled.

Power outages climb from Pennsylvania to Maine

Strong and damaging winds with gusts of 60-70 mph across the region Thursday caused power outages to skyrocket.

More than 600,000 customers were left in the dark from Pennsylvania to Maine. Around 400,000 outages were reported Friday morning, with Maine and New Hampshire taking the brunt of the outages.

An 85-mph wind gust was reported in Petersburg, New York, on Thursday. In Wellfleet, Massachusetts, a 73-mph wind gust was reported.

Bronny james enters nba draft ... could stay in school.

Bronny James has declared for the 2024 NBA Draft -- the USC freshman has officially thrown his name into consideration at the next level ... but it doesn't mean his college career is over for good.

The news broke just minutes ago -- LeBron James ' 19-year-old son will go through the pro process ... working out and visiting teams leading up to the draft.

Don't expect the James gang to team up in the Association just yet -- Bronny released a statement on the decision ... saying he will maintain his college eligibility and enter the NCAA transfer protocol.

In other words, Bronny's days at USC are over ... and his next home could either be an NBA team or a different university.

TMZ Sports broke the story -- Bronny suffered cardiac arrest while working out on campus back in July 2023.

He made a full recovery and worked his way back to the court ... appearing in 25 games for the Trojans this season, averaging less than 5 points, 3 rebounds and just over 2 assists.

"I've had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student and athlete," Bronny said of the news on Friday.

"I've made the decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility, and will also be entering the NCAA portal."

"Thank you to USC for an amazing Freshman year and as always thankful for my family, friends, doctors, athletic trainers and fans for their support."

LeBron may have to wait to fulfill his dream of playing alongside his son in the NBA ... but like he said this week, he is supporting Bronny no matter what he decides to do.

What does a DEI ban mean on a college campus? Here's how it's affecting Texas students.

What is happening at the university of texas at austin shows what a dei ban can mean at the campus level to individual students as a growing number of states – 12 so far – have passed anti-dei laws..

University of Texas junior Isabel Bellard was part of the Fearless Leadership Institute, a program that supported Black and Hispanic female students . The program helped her find a community on campus with shared experiences and gave her access to opportunities she wouldn't have otherwise had, such as taking her first-ever flight to New York to network with businesses.

Then on Jan. 1, the state's anti-DEI law went into effect. The legislation signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott last year banned Diversity, Equity and Inclusion offices and initiatives at public universities and colleges.

At UT Austin, that meant the leadership institute shifted to support all women regardless of ethnicity. The university's Gender and Sexuality Center became the Women's Community Center . And the Division of Diversity and Campus Engagement, of which both programs were a part, morphed into the Division of Campus and Community Engagement to comply with the law.

This week, the university began laying off at least 60 staff members , according to two people with knowledge who spoke to the Austin American-Statesman, part of the USA TODAY Network, on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the terminations publicly. In an email to the university community Tuesday, UT Austin President Jay Hartzell said that in implementing changes required under the law, the university would close the new campus division altogether and eliminate programs that "now overlap with our efforts elsewhere."

Bellard said she found out Tuesday that the leadership institute that meant so much to her was on the chopping block. An hour after Hartzell's email, Bellard said she saw the program's website was removed from UT's server.

The loss of the institute and other DEI programs is a crucial one, she said.

"Black people at UT, when they get here as students, the first question is where are all the other Black people?" Bellard said.

Only 4.5% of UT students in the fall 2023 semester were Black, according to a university fact-sheet. Black students were not allowed to attend UT until the 1950s.

"Most Black students, they're one of maybe two, maybe three other people of color in the room and so that creates this really isolating space for people of color," Bellard said. " "FLI was actually the space that said, 'Hey, there is a space for' you."

What is happening at UT Austin provides a revealing glimpse of what eliminating DEI initiatives can mean at the campus level, to individual students and student communities. A growing number of higher education institutions are grappling with state anti-DEI laws and protests from students and faculty who say the programs help improve student diversity and bring them a sense of belonging on campus.

At least 82 bills seeking to slash higher education DEI initiatives have been introduced in 28 states and the US Congress, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education's DEI legislation tracker. A dozen have been signed into law, including in Alabama, Florida, and Utah.

Amid a state DEI ban: The University of Texas lays off dozens of employees

University of Texas Austin students: 'We didn't see this coming'

Lacey Reynolds, a junior at UT and the president of the Onyx Honors Society, said she attended an emergency meeting with hundreds of students Tuesday night to process the news and action items.

"We didn't see this coming," Reynolds said. "We had no idea we would be hit this hard."

All students are affected by this, Reynolds said, adding that students are planning to stand up for staff members being let go ― many of whom felt like "families away from home."

"It's really hard right now being a student leader, when the people who you would seek advice from have lost their voices," she said. "Being a Black president at a predominantly white school during a fight that people are now starting to call 'Jim Crow 2.0.,' I would say it's extremely difficult, very heavy."

Shocked and angry, UT senior Amanda Garcia, an organizer for Texas Students for DEI, also attended the student emergency meeting Tuesday.

Over the summer and fall, Garcia said she had been in meetings with administrators and student groups to discuss how SB 17 would be implemented on campus. But, she said, she had no idea this was coming.

"Up until this point we had believed the administration was in some ways willing to work with us," Garcia said.

The loss of the division and staff members comes after UT Austin shuttered the Multicultural Engagement Center ; ended a program to support undocumented students, and cut its sponsorship of student groups at the center, including the Afrikan American Affairs , Asian Desi Pacific Islander American Collective , Latinx Community Affairs , and Native American and Indigenous Collective .

Garcia said the groups are now running GoFundMe accounts to make up for thousands of dollars lost from their budgets.

UT's Division of Diversity and Campus Engagement 'a national model'

The university's Division of Diversity and Campus Engagement was "a national model for integrating diversity and community engagement into the core mission of a university," according to an in-house description of the department in December.

In an impact report last year, articles described how the division was working to support students academically and professionally and how the division's work enhanced the university's strategic plan, "Change Starts Here."

"We know that many people of different groups and identities need to be at the table to solve the world’s biggest challenges and dream up new innovations for a better tomorrow," the report says. "That is why our units are supporting and uplifting diverse talent in an effort to make The University of Texas at Austin the world’s most impactful public university."

Hartzell, the university president, said in his email Tuesday that the university found that restructuring and rebranding the Diversity division wasn't enough.

"We have concluded that additional measures are necessary to reduce overlap, streamline student-facing portfolios, and optimize and redirect resources into our fundamental activities of teaching and research," he wrote.

Nineteen of the division's programs have been relocated to other divisions, including the Sweatt Center, the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, Advise Texas, First Generation Longhorns and Disability and Access. The Women's Community Center is not on that list.

Hartzell said the Division of Student Affairs would work to make student-facing services available through the end of the semester.

The Texas NAACP and the Texas Conference of American Association of University Professors released a joint statement decrying the university's actions, saying the division had already been modified to comply with the anti-DEI and dismantling it "appears to be an inappropriate and unnecessary." They called on the university to be more transparent about the moves and the related layoffs.

Multiple elected officials and social justice groups have also called on UT-Austin to reinstate the eliminated positions and programs.

UT students not giving up, pledge fight on DEI programs

Garcia said students are mobilizing and coming together in "unprecedented" ways to figure out how to support staff members who were laid off and move forward.

"We're more determined now than ever," they said. "I think they really underestimated how much these staff members meant to students."

Bellard also said that students will fight for staff members and for the return of programs that were integral to her experience at UT.

"In order for any marginalized students to be treated fairly at the University of Texas, because they weren't accepted for so long, diversity and identity-specific programs and partnerships are critical in developing students' sense of belonging" on a campus where white students are the majority, she added. "If I was a freshman, I'd be considering transferring and getting my degree from a different university."

Why were Trump’s bond documents rejected – and has this impacted his civil fraud appeal?

D ocuments for Donald Trump ’s $175m bond in his New York civil fraud case were rejected and “returned for correction” to the former president due to missing financial information.

A docket appeared on the New York County Supreme Court website on Wednesday, detailing that a “Bond/Undertaking” had been “returned for correction”.

The court said that the reason for the rejection was that some of the documentation filed on behalf of the Republican presidential candidate failed to include a current financial statement, power of attorney or list an attorney-in-fact.

The blunder was first spotted by New York attorney Jeffrey K Levine, who posted a screenshot of the court’s explanation for the rejection, which read: “The court has returned the documents listed below for the following reasons: Please include a current financial statement and Power of Attorney.

“Additionally, please list the name of the Attorney-in-Fact under the signature line on the Undertaking. Please use the ‘Refile Document’ link for Doc. No. 1707 to resubmit the corrected filing. Thank you and have a great day.”

Mr Levine added a comment of his own : “175 million reasons why 1 mistake should not have been made, much less 3!”

On Thursday, Mr Trump resubmitted the documents with the proper information in order for his bond to be accepted.

While there was speculation that it would include some of the former president’s financial records, the missing information actually related to Knight Speciality Insurance Co, which is underwriting the bond, as first noted by MSNBC legal correspondent Lisa Rubin.

The former president posted his $175m bond this week after he was handed an extraordinary lifeline by a New York appeals court, enabling him to pay only a portion of the total $464m judgment against him as bond and granting him a 10-day extension to the original deadline in which to do it.

That came after Judge Arthur Engoron concluded a three-month trial on 16 February by ruling that Mr Trump was liable for a decade-long scheme that saw the value of Trump Organization assets routinely inflated in order to obtain favourable loans from banks and insurers. The former president was ordered to pay $354m in fines and a further $110m plus in interest within 30 days.

As the interest ticked ever-upwards at 9 per cent or $120,000 a day, the exact total he owed by the time the original deadline day of 25 March arrived was closer to $468.1m, with Mr Trump’s lawyers complaining in the interim that he had been unable to find a surety company willing to stump up the cash – after approaching more than 30 – given the sheer scale of the money involved.

After the panel of New York Appellate Division judges intervened to offer the candidate a major concession, he was finally able to raise the money for his bond with the help of California’s Knight Specialty Insurance Company .

The company’s owner Don Hankey is a prolific Republican donor whose Axos Bank has refinanced several property loans for Mr Trump in recent years.

What the $175m bond really buys the candidate is time – several months in fact, as his appeal against the fraud judgement will not take place until September at the earliest , when the court’s autumn term commences.

That, however, does bring the matter uncomfortably close to Election Day on 5 November – a period when many of the candidate’s other legal entanglements likewise threaten to come to a head.

In addition to running for the presidency, Mr Trump is also battling four criminal cases in Washington DC, New York, Georgia and Florida, chewing up an estimated $230,000 per day in legal expenses and struggling to fund time to accommodate both court dates and campaign commitments, a problem that could become ever-more convoluted as the year progresses.
