Hey, commenting in 2023, seems like there's been an update to Google Slides that gets rid of the present button. Wondering if there are any plans to update? Thanks!

Remote for Slides to Control Google Slides Remotely
By Med Kharbach, PhD | Last Update: January 16, 2024
“Remote for Slides” brings a compelling and revolutionary solution to the table for anyone frequently using Google Slides. With this tool, managing presentations becomes much more comfortable and efficient, irrespective of the device being used.
One of the standout features of this tool is the ability to control your presentation remotely, whether it’s navigating through the slides or controlling embedded YouTube videos. This functionality indeed opens up a new realm of convenience, removing the necessity for any additional hardware. The user-friendly interface and the minimalistic design enhance the overall user experience, earning a thumbs-up.
Additionally, the ability to view speaker notes with adjustable font sizes is an absolute win for public speakers. This feature provides added flexibility and customization, ensuring your speaker notes are comfortably visible, allowing you to focus on the delivery.
The timer feature also earns high points as it allows users to keep track of their presentation’s length. A bonus feature is the Dark mode & Black Mode, which may prove to be a real eye-saver for those working late into the night. Plus, the multiple language support only adds to the app’s universal appeal.
The game controller compatibility is an exciting new feature, and while it may not be useful for everyone, it’s undoubtedly a cool addition for gaming enthusiasts. This feature enables users to navigate through slides using Xbox, PlayStation controllers, or Joy-Cons, making it a unique blend of fun and productivity.
The setup process is straightforward. The step-by-step instructions provided for installation and use are simple to follow. Once the Chrome extension is installed, it takes only a few clicks and a 6-digit code to start operating your Google Slides remotely.
However, the need for an internet connection to use the app could be a drawback for some users. The lack of offline functionality might be inconvenient for those who often find themselves presenting in locations with spotty or no Wi-Fi.
In conclusion, “Remote for Slides” offers an innovative solution for presenters using Google Slides. It amalgamates technology and convenience, providing a smooth presentation experience. Though it misses a full five-star rating due to the lack of offline functionality, it’s undoubtedly a tool worth having in your digital arsenal.
To start using Remote for Slides you need to install the Chrome extension . Once installed, open your Google Slides and from the editor mode click on ‘Present with Remote’. Next, click on ‘Start Remote’ and copy the 6 digits code. Open Remote for Slides web app or if you use Android device, the Lite Android app then type in or past the code.
Watch the video below to see Remote for Slides in action.
Final thoughts
“Remote for Slides” truly revolutionizes the way we interact with Google Slides, bringing a much-needed layer of ease and efficiency to presentations. Its standout feature of remote control functionality, whether for navigating slides or managing embedded media, marks a significant leap in presentation technology. The tool’s user-friendly interface, combined with its sleek design, enhances the overall user experience and makes it a valuable asset for anyone using Google Slides.
The inclusion of speaker notes with customizable font sizes is a game-changer for public speakers, adding a layer of comfort and personalization to every presentation. The timer feature is also a noteworthy addition, helping presenters stay on track with their delivery time. For those working late hours, the Dark mode & Black Mode options are a thoughtful touch to reduce eye strain.
While the game controller compatibility might not be essential for every user, it adds a unique and fun twist to navigating presentations, especially for gaming enthusiasts. The simple setup process, with easy-to-follow instructions, ensures that even those who are not tech-savvy can get started with minimal effort.
However, the reliance on an internet connection could be seen as a limitation, especially for users who frequently present in areas with unreliable internet access. This lack of offline functionality might be a hurdle for some, but it doesn’t significantly detract from the overall utility of the tool.

Remote for Google Slides: Control Slides With Your Phone
[UPDATE] As pointed out to us, this is not a feature developed by Google itself, but by Google Developers Group. We apologize for this faux pas.
Original Article:
Google Slides has quickly been becoming one of the most popular alternatives for making presentations. Today, Google announced that they are now introducing a remote for Google Slides – which will allow the users to control the presentation using their smartphone. This is particularly useful when it comes to timing the presentation as you can now tap on your phone to go forwards or backwards in the presentation without having to depend on someone or constantly touch your connected system.
What Does This Remote Allow You To Do?
This remote for Google Slides is basically a Google Chrome extension which functions with a progressive web app. It allows you to control your presentation from any device. Here’s a look at all that this remote allows you to do:
- Move Forwards or Backwards: You can move forward or backward in the presentation by tapping a button! This gives you a greater control over the stage as you do not need to depend on someone for controlling your presentation.
- Timer: Another major benefit of this remote for Google Slides is that it allows you to look at the time for which you have been speaking for. In case of timed presentations, this is really critical as you may not want to go beyond the scheduled time.
- Notes: Sometimes you write notes for a slide which are quick points that help you remember additional info. The remote also shows these notes.
How To Use Remote for Google Slides?
- In order to make use of the remote – install this Google Chrome extension on the device you are going to present on.
- After you’ve installed the extension – open this progressive web app on your device which you will be using as the remote.
Next, you will need to open the extension which will show you a six digit code. Enter the code in your web app and you can now begin to control the presentation. Moreover, it allows you to control a connected presentation anywhere on earth, remotely and not just while you’re on stage!
