When you were a kid, the Goosebumps books were a critical part of any trip to the Scholastic book fair, whether you adored the books or got goosebumps by just looking at the iconic covers. If you’re looking for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, or to pass on this iconic ’90s trend, this is the perfect list for you. Keep reading to find all of the Goosebumps books in order.
What is Goosebumps All About?
The first Goosebump s book was released in 1992 and the series quickly became a global hit. It is a children’s horror series written by R.L. Stine that has become symbolic for most childhoods.
The books see children placed in terrifying situations in which they have to overcome a frightening monster. Most of the original Goosebumps books can be read as standalones as they have self-contained plots. However, the exception to this is when a book has a direct sequel.
The original series had 62 books, but Stine has continued writing many Goosebumps spin-offs, including a new series: Goosebumps SlappyWorld.
Two new installments are expected in the Goosebumps SlappyWorld series in 2022. Slappy in Dreamland, the sixteenth book in the series, is expected be published on March 1, and the seventeenth book in the series, Haunting with the Stars, is expected to be published June 28.
Collectively, Stine has sold more than 400 million books and his books have been translated into 35 languages. Stine’s favorite Goosebumps book is The Haunted Mask, and all of the books that feature Slappy, the evil dummy.
Is There a Goosebumps TV Series?
Yes, the Goosebumps TV show premiered in 1995 and has four seasons. It was a live-action adaptation and featured stars such as R.L. Stine himself, Caterina Scorsone, and Hayden Christensen. You can now watch all of the seasons on Netflix.
Also, a movie adaptation was made in 2015. It stars Jack Black as R.L. Stine and Dylan Minnette as his teenage neighbor. It features 40 monsters and, of course, Slappy from the Goosebumps books.

Greg thinks there is something wrong with the old camera he found. The photos keep turning out…different.

Goosebumps are a series of horror stories for children written by best selling novelist R.L. Stine, starting from 1992. The books portray various teen characters in a series of scary situations. A total of 62 books are available in the series, with several spin off novels published as well following the explosive popularity of the original books. Various Goosebumps novels have been adapted for different mediums, including video games, comic books, a popular television show and a film in 2015 starring Jack Black.
Series Overview:
The books use a combination of horror and humor to explore the world of monsters from the viewpoint of children. Their is no one central protagonist, but rather a roster of young adult and teenage characters grappling with scary situations and homicidal monsters. The stories often unfold in remote corners of the country which are isolated from the rest of the world, such as boarding schools, summer camps, vacation houses or abandoned homes. The protagonists are typically loners or newcomers who find it difficult to fit in. The stories are written in the first person, providing the reader with a running commentary of the protagonist’s thought processes, and often include twist endings. Monsters range from the mythical to the supernatural, or belonging to the genres of science and speculative fiction.
Welcome to the Dead House:
The first novel in the series follows the story of the Benson family. Their desire to move to a new home brings them to Dark Falls, a house that appears to possess an unaccountable sense of menace, characterized by a brooding atmosphere and an inexplicably dark color tone. The house appears to exist in a permanent state of gloom, making for a difficult environment for the family and its children Amanda and Josh, as well as the dog Petey. Amanda notices many strange things about the house, and the children she meets nearby all seem to have a strangely purposeful method of behavior in befriending her and her brother. A nearby cemetery provides a sinister backdrop to disturbing occurrences that take place once they move into the house. The family begins to quickly realize that all is not well, and it is revealed that those who live nearby are dead people formerly belonging to the house, and require a blood sacrifice once a year. It is for the purpose of providing the sacrifice that the Benson Family had been lured to Dark Falls. After learning the truth, Amanda and her brother must find a way to save their family from the undead and from the house, while dealing with the sinister presence of their real estate agent.
Stay Out of the Basement:
The second novel in the series follows a brother and sister duo, Margaret and Casey, as they uncover their father’s plans to create a new kind of plant and human hybrid. The two are the children of a celebrated ex botanist with an obsession with plant experimentation. Initially unaware of his level of obsession, the children are engrossed in their game one day when they observe their father in the distance. Margaret attempts to follow her father into the basement, leading him to raise a hand covered in blood and warn her to stay out of the basement.
When their mother leaves to attend to her sick sister, their father’s behavior becomes increasingly more erratic. He repeatedly warns the children to stay out of the basement and wears a cap at all times, as well eating fertilizer and filling his bed with dirt and worms. It is revealed that he had been performing experiments on himself in order to create the perfect cross between man and plant, but insists that the side effects, such as leaves growing out of his head, are nothing more than a temporary occurrence. When their father’s behavior becomes increasingly deranged, leading to the possible murder of his boss and the continued absence of their mother, the children are forced to take matters into their own hands and venture into the basement to confront the source of the horror.
Series Discussion:
The Goosebumps series have been praised for their skillful combination of horror and comedy, with relatable protagonists and an engaging style of narration. Murder, violence and depravity very rarely occur in the series, and are believed to be one of the main reasons for their success. The series consistently portrays children overcoming great odds to defeat evil and using their wits to bring about the conclusion. The writing style is simple and unaffected, designed to be understood easily by children of all ages. Certain passages in the stories deal with occult witchcraft and other facets of dark magic that might be considered unsuitable for younger children, but the series rarely delves too deep into those subjects, and quickly returns to the problem solving nature of a crime thriller or a murder mystery.
Several spin off versions of the original series give their own unique twist to the story lines. Several short story anthologies written in the same style of horror comedy were compiled under the title of ‘Tales to Give You Goosebumps’. A similar spin off featured stories with multiple endings that were to be chosen by the reader in the make your own adventure style of narration. The reader is put in place of the protagonist and given a series of choices in the face of horror that determines the fate of the character and the ending of the novel.
Spin off stories that followed the original Goosebumps maintained the humorous tone of those first stories without minimizing the horror aspect of the narrative. Critics have praised the series for delving into the rich mythology of various countries to produce monsters that seem fresh and exciting to young readers. The series is also credited with getting an entire generation of youngsters to start reading again. The readership is split evenly between both genders, with R.L. Stine reporting that the fan letters he receives are sent by both girls and boys. The series has consistently topped favorite books lists chosen by young readers, and enjoys a huge popularity with readers of all ages to this day.

An extremely thorough guide to every ‘goosebumps’ book ever released.
Take me back to the days of the Scholastic Book Fair. The days long before the Republicans got to it , claiming it got them addicted to porn . The simpler days, when all I did was show up with a a crisp 10-dollar bill from my piggy bank and buy all the books I desired. At the time, all I desired to read was Captain Underpants . But my classmates? Goosebumps .
I never got in to Goosebumps as a child. I was too wee and sensitive. I was already sleeping with the lights on so the ghost from Scooby-Doo wouldn’t get me. I couldn’t handle Goosebumps . I could hardly even bear to lay me eight-year-old eyes on the covers of those books! Disembodied hands. Mad scientists. Goo monsters. They told me not to judge books by their covers, but I did. My judgment? “This will traumatize me.”
But years later, now that my elementary school days are (mercifully) behind me, I think I’m ready to give the Goosebumps series another shot. All three hundred million of them—or however many R.L Stine wrote. Behold, every Goosebumps book ever released, in chronological order.

Goosebumps in chronological order
The majority of the books in the original Goosebumps series are standalone stories and thus, don't have any chronological order within the plot. However, thanks to a few sequels in the series, there are some mini-arcs within the original series. Here are the chronological reading orders for those arcs.
Here are the books in the original Goosebumps series in chronological order:
How many books are there in Goosebumps?
The original Goosebumps series ran to 62 volumes. It was published from July 1992 through December 1997. It was followed by a sequel series, Goosebumps 2000, which included 25 published titles and was published from January 1998 through January 2000.
Two spinoff series were published contemporaneously during the run the original Goosebumps series. These included the six volume Tales to Give You Goosebumps short story anthology series, published from October 1994 through October 1997. And the choose your own adventure style Give Yourself Goosebumps series ran from July 1995 through February 2000. This included 50 titles, eight of which were special editions.
The next main Goosebumps series after the original series was Goosebumps HorrorLand , which included two arcs totaling 19 volumes and was published from April 2008 through January 2011. In addition to the 19 main volumes, Goosebumps HorrorLand also included a bonus book and a promotional book.
The Classic Goosebumps series was published contemporaneously with Goosebumps HorrorLand, and included some reprinted titles that tied in to the new Goosebumps HorrorLand books. 34 titles from the original Goosebumps series were reprinted in the Classic Goosebumps series. This 38 title series also included three books from the Goosebumps 2000 series and one from Give Yourself Goosebumps. Classic Goosebumps was originally printed from May 2008 through November 2011. Reprints occurred in April 2015, July 2018, and another is scheduled for March 2024.
The next Goosebumps series, Goosebumps Hall of Horrors , included six volumes and was published from March 2011 through April 2012. This was followed by Goosebumps Most Wanted , which was published from July 2012 through October 2016. It included one standalone title, ten main books, and four special edition books.
Next up was Goosebumps SlappyWorld . This included 19 titles and one special edition, and was published from February 2017 through July 2023. Finally, the currently ongoing Goosebumps House of Shivers had its first volume, Scariest. Book. Ever. , published in September 2023. The second book in this ongoing series, Goblin Monday , is scheduled for publication on March 5, 2025.
What was the original Goosebumps book?
The original Goosebumps book was Welcome to Dead House . It was published in July 1992.
Why was the book Goosebumps banned?
The Goosebumps books have been challenged, censored and banned many times over the decades since Welcome to Dead House was first published. The Goosebumps series deals with scary topics and sometimes veers into outright graphic storytelling. While they are not as gruesome as many horror novels for adults, it is no surprise that the spooky stories have inspired some parents who felt the books were too frightening for their children.
What is the most popular Goosebumps book?
A strong argument can be made for Night of the Living Dummy as the most popular Goosebumps book. The story introduces Slappy, a recognizable and iconic character who has not only appeared in subsequent Goosebumps books, he has also played a major role in many Goosebumps adapations and spinoffs. In the sequel series Goosebumps SlappyWorld , Slappy even gets the chance to tell his own story.
What are the four rare Goosebumps books?
There are four Goosebumps books that are particularly rare. This is because they each only exist as first editions, having never been reprinted. In fact, Goosebumps fans have dubbed the quartet of titles “The Unreprinted.”
The four rare Goosebumps books are:
- Legend of the Lost Legend (Goosebumps #47)
- Werewolf Skin (Goosebumps #60)
- I Live in Your Basement! (Goosebumps #61)
- Monster Blood IV (Goosebumps #62)
Werewolf Skin, I Live in Your Basement! and Monster Blood IV were the last three books in the original Goosebumps run. This could explain why there were not reprinted.
Meanwhile, Legends of the Lost Legend did not get reprinted until it was included in the September 2017 release of the 25th Anniversary Retro Set .

Who Is R.L. Stine?
Goosebumps cast a spell upon children by transforming even the most reluctant students into avid readers. Despite the fact that almost every book has a different collection of characters, the series has one common element that kids can't get enough of: THE AUTHOR !
However believable his plots seem to his readers, Stine insists he has never lived one of his stories. “I"ve never turned into a bee - I've never been chased by a mummy or met a ghost. But many of the ideas in my books are suggested by real life. For example, one Halloween my son, Matt, put a mask on and then had trouble pulling it off. That gave me the idea for The Haunted Mask .”
Although he never experienced terror first hand, he did enjoy reading about it. “When I was a kid, there were these great comic books called Tales From The Crypt and The Vault of Horror. They were gruesome. I discovered them in the barbershop and thought they were fabulous. I used to get a haircut every Saturday so I wouldn't miss any of these comic books. I had no hair at all when I was a kid!”
His ideas came from two sources: his memory and his imagination. “When I write, I try to think back to what I was afraid of or what was scary to me, and try to put those feelings into books.” He also keeps a tribal mask and a skeleton hanging in his writing studio to provide eerie surroundings. Although he handles the writing by himself, Stine says he gets “lots of help from my editors, my readers, and my friends.”
Kids reading Goosebumps may be looking for a scare, but the laughs they get are no accident. Before he was R.L., he was Jovial Bob, author of such works as 101 Silly Monster Jokes, and Bozos on Patrol and editor of Bananas magazine. His ability to know what kids will laugh at , as well as what will frighten them, makes the Goosebumps series all the more enjoyable for his readers.
Stine started writing when he was 9 years old! He would write stories and jokes on an old typewriter and hand them out at school. “The teacher would grab them and take them away,” Stine says, “but I kept doing it.” He wrote for his high school newspaper in Columbus Ohio. After graduating from Ohio State University, he moved to New York City, where he worked on a variety of writing jobs.
Although his books are fun and exciting, writing them is serious stuff. He treats writing “...like a job.” To unwind after work he enjoys playing the pinball machine conveniently located in his own apartment.
For aspiring authors, Stine feels reading is as important as writing. He offers this advice: “If you want to be a writer, don"t worry so much about writing. Read as much as you can. Read as many different writers as you can. Soak up the styles. You can learn all kinds of ways to say things.” As a boy he read Norse legends, Greek myths, Edgar Allan Poe and baseball stories. “And Mad Magazine changed my life” His favorite thriller? Something Wicked This Way Comes , by Ray Bradbury.

The Definitive Ranking of All 62 Original "Goosebumps" Books
The official ranking of all 62 of R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" books.
Image via Complex Original
Do you remember seeing your first Goosebumps book in the supermarket checkout line or Scholastic Book Fair ? The feeling that something terrible—or terribly awesome!—was hidden in the pages of Night of the Living Dummy or Monster Blood ? Kids these days may have The Hunger Games , but they'll never understand the spooky joy of staying up all night exploring Camp Nightmare .
Whether you followed the series for its entire run or, like most of us, stopped somewhere in the 30s, R.L. Stine continued to write the horror fiction novellas at an incredible pace from 1992 through 1997. (Seriously, the guy was a machine.) Twenty-two years after the release of the first volume, a spin-off series, and a television show, we decided to look back and rank all 62 of the original series below . 11. Piano Lessons Can Be Murder
Release date: November 1993
Most of the later Goosebumps books had pun-tastic titles that were basically just drawn-out into 125 pages jokes. It's an ingenious formula, sort of like what The Onion does today only with children's horror novellas. But of all the play-on-word plot devices, Piano Lessons Can Be Murder hits closest to home. Anyone whose parents forced them to take music lessons can attest: Sure, there's an actual horror plot to this book, but the scariest thing of all is just remembering how much you hated practicing for 40 minutes a day.
10. One Day at Horrorland
Release date: February 1994
Haunted theme parks have been a big thing for the horror genre since Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes , so naturally R.L. Stine would need to put his own spin on it. This version of the story centers on a family's terrifying trip to Horrorland, a theme park that more than lives up to its name. It also has a weird reality TV/ Truman Show -esque subplot that proved to be ahead of its time (the monsters in the theme have been filming the family for their own show). And the twist ending—that the family is offered more free passes by monsters—is more darkly humorous than most.
9. Say Cheese and Die!
Release date: November 1992
It's often said that Native Americans believed a picture steals your soul, so naturally horror writers have mined this trope for screams. One of the earliest Goosebumps titles, the book focuses on a haunted camera that kills anyone whose picture is taken. It's sort of like Marty McFly disappearing, only without time travel. And the cover, with a skeleton family flipping burgers, is perfectly macabre.
8. The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight
Release date: June 1994
Of all the Goosebumps covers, this is the one that scariest. There's just something about an evil scarecrow that's undeniably creepy. The plot involves two kids, Jodie and Mark, staying on their grandparent's farm. They notice some creepy-looking scarecrows, and soon enough, they've come alive and are looking for blood. The reason, though—that they were made using instruction from an evil book—is pretty cool. And the last page, hinting that a similarly evil teddy bear was created, is one of the best Goosebumps twists.
7. Welcome to Dead House
The first book in the Goosebumps series is also one of the best. R.L. Stine treats us to a classic family-moves-into-a-haunted-house scenario. Like all the stories that would follow, there's a spooky twist at the end of the book that young readers can identify with. Though the series would later get wild and zany with the plots (see: The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena ), this is where it all started.
6. The Werewolf of Fever Swamp
Release date: December 1993
Every horror series needs a werewolf (or two), and this is the best werewolf-centric book in the Goosebumps series by far. The story follows Grady, a new resident of Fever Swamp, who starts investigating howling in the woods. Is it the character known as Swamp Hermit? A dog named Wolf? Or even Grady's new friend Will? Like all good werewolf stories The Werewolf of Fever Swamp is a tale of alienation and transformation, but mostly it's about a kid who wants a pet dog really badly. Who can't sympathize with that?
5. Go Eat Worms!
Release date: July 1994
Go Eat Worms is a pretty #advanced Goosebumps book in that the main character is sort of a dickish weirdo you want to see punished. You see, Todd really, really likes worms. He's obsessed with them. He likes scaring people with them, playing with them, and digging for them in the playground. There was probably a kid like this in your class, and his name was also probably Todd. The story itself is basically about a giant worm that starts tormenting Todd in order to teach him a lesson. (The lesson: don't play with worms because that is a weird thing to do and the worms don't like it.) It may well be the strangest Goosebumps book in the entire series.
4. Monster Blood II
Release date: April 1994
There are actually four books in the Monster Blood series, but the second really knocks it out of the park. The story picks up after Evan Ross, of the original Monster Blood , moves to a new school where he's getting bullied by a kid known as Conan the Barbarian. (Oh, side note: Monster Blood is a substance that makes anything you feed it to grow huge, and become evil.) After finding an old tin of Monster Blood, Evan and a friend decide to feed it to a classroom hamster to get back at Conan. Things don't go as planned and Evan ends up drinking some monster blood himself to save the day (and Conan's life).
The moral of the story: don't feed classroom pets evil blood, no matter how good your reason.
3. Night of the Living Dummy
Release date: May 1993
Just look at that cover. Those eyes! How ventriloquist dummies were ever supposed to be anything other than nightmarish is unfathomable. This book focuses on twin siblings Kris and Lindy, whose dummies may or may not be coming alive and doing terrible things in the night (of course they are!). It's like Toy Story , if Woody wanted to kill you in your sleep.
2. The Haunted Mask
Release date: September 1993
The Haunted Mask may have been the eleventh book in the series, but it was the first one that you could find literally everywhere you looked. (Seriously, these things were sold everywhere from supermarkets to car washes.) The story focused on timid 11-year-old Carly Beth, who winds up with an evil Halloween mask she can't remove. The book is insanely thrilling from start to finish, with a twist ending that was just the right amount of horrific ("How do I look in your mask?"). Anyone who's read it will tell you, the thought of it still gives them shivers.

Goosebumps is a children's horror book franchise published by Scholastic Corporation. The books are written by author and creator R.L. Stine . It is currently the second best selling book series of all time, selling 400 million books worldwide in over thirty-two languages. At one point the franchise was the #1 best selling book series of all time, selling over 4 million books a month during its prime.
Beginning with the eponymous Goosebumps series in 1992, the Goosebumps franchise has spawned numerous follow-up and spin-off series. The franchise's other forms of media include a television series and feature films.
The series is named after R.L. Stine had seen an ad for "Goose Bumps Week," a television horror event. The name is also based on the skin condition goose bumps, which is a common symptom of fright. source

All 10 goosebumps books that were inspired by classic horror movies.
R. L. Stine's Goosebumps book series features several installments that were inspired by classic horror movies; here are each of them explained.
R. L. Stine has written dozens of Goosebumps books over the years, with a few of them being inspired by some of the most iconic classic horror movies of all time. Known as the Stephen King of children's books, Stine has had an impeccable career filled with fright-filled tales that range from terrifying summer camps to vicious creatures who force families into sadistic game shows. It is a little known fact that he's taken inspiration for horror movies to craft some of his most popular stories, but it must be noted as Goosebumps continues to dominate the children's horror sub-genre.
In the 1990s, the Goosebumps series started publication with Welcome To Dead House. Only a few years later, Goosebumps was transformed into a television show of the same name. Even when it came to a close in 1998, he returned for R. L. Stine's The Haunting Hour that ran from 2010 to 2014. He has had such an impressive impact on generations of horror fans that the year 2015 brought his Goosebumps books to life with Jack Black starring as Stine. In 2021, his lesser-known young adult series, Fear Street , will release as a trilogy on Netflix.

Stine's Goosebumps books have become classics in their own right, but some were inspired by even more iconic horror classics. Whether they're B movies or prolific zombie flicks, he has introduced some of the youngest fans to a life-long love of the genre while catering to the guardians who may have read alongside them. Without further ado, here's every Goosebumps book inspired by a classic horror movie.
Night Of The Living Dummy
Night Of The Living Dummy is based on none other than George A. Romero's Night Of The Living Dead . While Stine's book doesn't feature zombies, it does bring ventriloquist dummies to life that torment a family in their own home. It follows a similar storyline to Romero's 1968 movie, but alters it by making it more child friendly, removes the cannibalistic aspects, and plays on childhood fears of dolls and inanimate objects come to life.
Why I'm Afraid Of Bees
It may come as a surprise that Kurt Neumann's The Fly inspired Stine's Why I'm Afraid Of Bees, but its contents are relatively familiar to the 1958 horror flick. After Gary Lutz decides that he wants to switch lives with someone else for a while, a bizarre accident causes him to merge with a bumblebee. In The Fly, André Delambre (Al Hedison) DNA gets mixed with a fly's DNA while toying with his latest experiment. Both stories delve into the idea of body swapping with a flying insect.

It Came From Beneath The Sink!
It Came From Beneath The Sink! was inspired by the sci-fi horror movie It Came From Beneath The Sea. While the size and severity of their creatures are entirely different, they are also relatively the same, as they both dwell in dark and damp spaces. The Goosebumps book's title is a play on the 1955 movie's name, which happened to be a very popular title for movies featuring sci-fi elements in the 1950s like It Came From Outer Space. It Came From Beneath The Sink! is mostly a homage to sci-fi horror classics like It Came From Beneath The Sea that takes inspiration from how bizarre these features are and were at the time.
Phantom Of The Auditorium
It's fairly obvious that Phantom Of The Auditorium was inspired by The Phantom Of The Opera . It follows a similar plot where strange events are happening in an auditorium and it's up to Brooke to solve the mystery of who or what is causing stage lights to fall and curtains to drop. Phantom Of The Auditorium isn't as horrifying as the 1925 horror movie, but it does feature its core elements of strange happenings surrounding a theatrical performance.
The Werewolf Of Fever Swamp
Werewolf Of London inspired R. L. Stine's The Werewolf Of Fever Swamp. Stuart Walker's 1935 horror movie follows a group of academics who delve into the mysteries of lycanthropy, which is the transformation from human to werewolf. It was one of the first mainstream werewolf movies and preceded Lon Chaney Jr.'s famous depiction in The Wolf Man. The Werewolf Of Fever Swamp also details a scientist's exploration that leads to his family acquiring a dog that may be wreaking havoc on their Florida swamp.

Let's Get Invisible
The Invisible Man is one of Universal's most popular creature features and was even remade as recently as 2020. In Stine's version of the story, Let's Get Invisible, a group of friends discover a mirror that allows them to turn invisible when they use a light that hangs overhead. As it progresses, they discover that the longer they stay invisible, the stranger they become. The Invisible Man features a larger sense of horror when a man's invisibility impacts an entire town, while Let's Get Invisible is contained to a small group of friends. Regardless, the horrors of disappearing permeate throughout the entirety of both tales.
The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb
The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb was inspired by the classic 1964 horror mummy movie of the same name. They more or less share the same plot with an alteration to the explorer's age. As both characters explore the pyramids, they find that they're not the only ones inside and that, perhaps, something much darker awaits them as they work their way towards the mummy's tomb.
The Blob That Ate Everyone
The Blob is one of the most recognizable classic B horror movies that came from the year 1958. Stine took notable inspiration from the movie in his The Blob That Ate Everyone. It follows Zackie who purchases a strange typewriter. As he sets out to rewrite the classic horror story, he finds that whatever he types comes to life. Just like The Blob, Zackie's version of the monster also wreaks havoc on his small town.

The Abominable Snowman Of Pasadena
When Jordan and Nicole dream of a wintery vacation, they are given the opportunity to travel to Alaska where their father is tasked with taking photos of the abominable snowman. Being that the family is from Pasadena, Stine's book is aptly named The Abominable Snowman Of Pasadena. It is inspired by Hammer Films' 1957 British horror movie The Abominable Snowman about a scientist who joins an explorer on the hunt for the infamous Yeti.
A Shocker On Shock Street
A Shocker On Shock Street is one of Stine's most iconic Goosebumps books. It takes inspiration from Nathan Juran's 1957 sci-fi horror movie The Deadly Mantis. The horror movie is one of many featuring insects, creatures, and/or monsters who are discovered by scientists and then travel to a densely populated area to cause mayhem. A Shocker On Shock Street features numerous horrors that Erin and Marty run into while exploring the newly opened amusement park based on their favorite franchise, Shock Street. As they wander through the set, they discover that the horrors are real and the giant praying mantises are one of their biggest threats, similar to that of The Deadly Mantis.
Most, if not all, of R. L. Stine's books are based on some form of horror content. These ten happen to be apart of the category relating to those inspired by classic horror movies, whereas others, such as The Haunted Mask take inspiration from more contemporary works like Halloween III: Season Of The Witch . There are even several books that feature a popular setting of slashers: a summer camp. It is apparent that R. L. Stine is attentive to the genre he works within, as his Goosebumps books are inspired or influenced by some of the most iconic settings, sub-genres, and classic horror movies.

The Best Goosebumps Books to Read for Spine-Chilling Fun
Posted: October 19, 2023 | Last updated: October 19, 2023
Having just spent the past four days at Comic Con with a veritable monsoon of Goosebumps book fans, I'm so happy to know that another generation of kids is going to be haunted by that evil ventriloquist's dummy, Slappy, thanks to the new Disney+ series. During the panel, showrunners Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman spoke about how they were influenced by the books from RL Stine. They said that they wanted kids and adults who read the books to be excited about it, but also they added a level of continuity for the show that the books don't have, namely, the show follows a set of characters, and the only "set" character from the books is the freaking evil dummy. (Also, they had actors dressed as Slappy for the premiere party, and I was terrified.)
The new Disney + show is sure to bring interest back to the classic Goosebumps series this Halloween season. But with hundreds of titles in the catalog, it can be a daunting task to sift through all of them to find the best ones worth reading — which is where I come in. I curated this list of best Goosebumps books as a great entry point to the series and to introduce you and your kids to books you might not have read before. My kids and I have read almost every book on this list and thoroughly enjoyed them from cover to cover.
Check out our favorite Goosebumps books below — and don't forget, RL Stine is the gold standard of kid's horror for a reason!
1) 'Monster Blood' by RL Stine
I think this was the first Goosebumps book I ever read, and I know it's the first one I bought for my kids. When a kid is sent to his great aunt's house, he decides to do a silly thing and buy an old can of "monster blood," knowing it's just a silly thing — until it isn't.
2) 'One Day at HorrorLand' by RL Stine
If you've ever wondered what Six Flags would be like if it was full of real monsters, that's what you get at Horrorland. For one family, each scream in the park could be their last. Would you eat the funnel cake there? I would like to think I'd try it.
3) 'Night of the Living Dummy' by RL Stine
Enter Slappy. This Goosebumps book is where we meet the stupid wooden evil nightmare for the first time. Lindy thought the dummy was fun. Lindy was dumb. And so begins the creepiest first memory of many millennial horror readers. It's a tale of sibling rivalry gone horribly, horribly wrong.
4) 'Werewolf of Fever Swamp' by RL Stine
I was Team Vandal long before I was Team Jacob, but all I know is that my reading choices later in life make so much sense, given how many of these I've read. This is the quintessential werewolf book. Grady's dog, Vandal, maybe more than he ever dreamed possible.
5) 'Say Cheese and Die!' by RL Stine
I was terrified of cameras for so long after reading this book. Hilariously, my children read this book and loved it, but apparently, they both believed someone was messing with the digital images. Oh, those sweet, summer, digital-age children. Because in this book, when the camera can tell the future, they're developed on good, old-fashioned film.
6) 'Scariest. Book. Ever' by RL Stine
What do you do when you find out that your uncle is in possession of the "scariest book in the world?" You try to keep it safe and hide it from would-be readers. In order to do this, though, you're going to be putting yourselves in some serious peril.
7) 'The Cuckoo Clock of Doom' by RL Stine
Part time-travel, part annoying sibling story, part "how do I get one of these clocks as an elder millennial," This story is about a cuckoo clock that has the ability to open a spell that makes the person who unlocks the spell get younger by the minute. Not great when you're 9.
8) 'The Barking Ghost' by RL Stine
I think this was my gateway to reading Cujo the next year, and honestly, this may have scared me more. Ever wonder what it would be like to be possessed by an evil dog? Me neither, and even after reading this a mere 28 years ago, I can still confidently say I never want to know what it's like, even after this book spelled it out.
9) 'Chicken Chicken' by RL Stine
You'd think that being a former goth kid, I wouldn't like the story about the goth girl/resident witchy kid slowly turning into a chicken, but it's hysterical. More camp than anything, this is one of the more ridiculous RL Stine books, and that's what makes it great.
10) 'Attack of the Jack o Lanterns' by RL Stine
Would it be a pre-Halloween round-up of RL Stine without Attack of the Jack-O-Lanterns? I don't think so.
Trick or treating forever sounds like a good time, doesn't it? Not if evil Jack o' lantern-headed monsters are the ones forcing you to do it.
11) 'Deep Trouble' by RL Stine
Two words: evil merpeople. Yes, you read that right. Evil half-fish, half-humans living in the coral reefs off of the coast of Deep Island. As you expect, many shenanigans ensue, and yes, there are kids in massive amounts of peril. This one is not great for kids just learning to swim.
12) 'You Can't Scare Me!' by RL Stine
Ever dream of sticking it to someone you don't like? So did Eddie, and it backfires spectacularly when he lures Courtney to Muddy Creek, where it's rumored the mud monsters live. But it shouldn't matter because Eddie knows that mud monsters aren't real. But what if they are?
13) 'Phantom of the Auditorium' by RL Stine
What happens when the dramatic kid gets really into character and weird things start happening? That's precisely what happens when Zeke is cast in the titular role of the Phantom. Notes begin to be left behind. Strange things seem to follow Zeke wherever he goes. But is it Zeke's method of acting or something more sinister?
14) 'The Haunted Car' by RL Stine
Homework is so lame, especially when there's a cool car parked right downstairs. You've never seen this car before. It's almost like it's calling to you. What's the worst thing that could happen if you pause your homework to go check it out and maybe even take a ride?
15) 'Welcome to Camp Nightmare' by RL Stine
What could be worse than going to camp when you don't want to? Going to camp where people start disappearing, and your parents don't answer your letters, and there might be monsters chasing you. That's what happens at Camp Nightmare, and your kids will be so amped to go to sleepaway camp next year or not.

David Beckham on the Soccer Memory That Gives Him 'Goosebumps' and 25th Anniversary with Victoria (Exclusive)
The international soccer star reunited with former rival Thierry Henry for a new campaign with Lay's
David Beckham has "lots to look forward to" in 2024!
The internationally beloved former soccer star, 48, is celebrating two major milestones this year, as 2024 marks the 25th anniversaries of both his wedding to wife, Victoria Beckham , and Manchester United's Treble win in the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
"For me, personally, I am also looking forward to celebrating — it will be 25 years since Manchester United won the treble — including the Champions League of course! — and Victoria and I will also celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary," Beckham tells PEOPLE exclusively. "So lots to look forward to!"
The father-of-three says he's also looking forward to "a great year and summer of sport," noting the "Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium, the Men’s Euros in Germany, Copa America and the Paris Olympics."
"I’m hoping to get to see as much live sport as possible — it’s always really special to cheer on England Football and Team GB," says Beckham. "I’m also really excited that a new MLS season is about to begin, for my team Inter Miami. As a team we are working hard to build on the success of the 2023 season following last year’s Leagues Cup win."
As he looks back on the milestones, Beckham says he was thrilled to get to team up with his former rival, Thierry Henry. Beckham and Henry, 46, famously competed against one another as stars in the league before they retired from the sport.
Henry and Beckham's reunion is in support of a new campaign, No Lay’s, No Game 2024, rewarding fans who are game day ready with Lay’s chips, the official snack partner of the UEFA Champions League (UCL), throughout the tournament.
Beckham and Henry filmed the campaign's promotional video in front of 75,000 fans at San Siro Stadium during the UEFA Champions League season between AC Milan and PSG.
The ad shows the duo just before kick-off, as Beckham discovers that Henry had eaten all of his Lay’s chips. To solve the problem, the two put out a call through the Lay’s “Chip Cam” – a spin on the traditional kiss cam — to scour the crowd for Lay's. Two lucky fans, a father and daughter, are found with the chips and are invited to watch the game with the iconic soccer stars.
Beckham says he "loved being back at the San Siro" and was excited "to work with Thierry in this totally new way" for the campaign. "The energy in the stadium was amazing and the fans were so welcoming. We only had about 5 minutes to film the live stunt, so there was a lot of pressure to find the fans in the crowd who had Lay’s with them," he explains.
"Thierry and I found it so funny, watching all of the different ways fans embraced being on the jumbotron while we were on the hunt for Lay’s – it was great to see them so engaged."
And despite the two having "a great rivalry on the pitch," Beckham says, "We’ve remained friends and it’s been fun to see each other take on new projects and support each other."
It's hard for Beckham to point to just one memory that stands out during his playing career, but a certain victory "will always be incredibly special," for him.

"I have so many incredible memories of the Champions League," Beckham begins, "With Manchester United, 1999 will always be incredibly special given that we won the Treble, something no other club had done before."
Beckham continues, "I can’t believe it’s 25 years ago this year. I remember that final so clearly, it gives me goosebumps thinking about it now. To win the Champions League with that group of players who I’d grown up with — it doesn’t get much better than that."

“Audiences everywhere fell in love with the series’ chills, thrills, heart and humor, making it one of Disney Branded Television’s most-watched shows of last year,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “We can’t wait to dive deeper into the brilliant mind of R.L. Stine, and to collaborate once again with Sony Pictures Television, Scholastic Entertainment, and our fantastic creative team to bring an entirely new mystery to Disney+ for season two.”
Since their launches last year, both SuperKitties and Pupstruction have become fan favorites among preschoolers and their families. SuperKitties is about four fierce and furry superhero kittens who are on a mission to make their town of Kittydale a more caring and “pawesome” place while Pupstruction follows an all-dog construction crew.
