5 easy ways to find kindle unlimited eligible books.

These quick tips to find eligible books come handy if you want to join Kindle Unlimited or make the most of it.

Many Amazon customers have tried Kindle Unlimited already. Some of them are satisfied with a service and continue using it.

Other users developed a pattern to join the platform for a limited time, read the best books, and cancel the subscription – until the next chance to get it via the deal.

Finally, there is a large group of customers who tested Kindle Unlimited and canceled it for they didn’t find enough interesting books to read or realized they didn’t use the service often enough to justify the monthly price they were paying.

Amazon’s popular digital subscription gives unlimited access to over a million Kindle ebooks, as well as thousands of Audible audiobooks, comic books, and magazines. However, what you have to keep in mind is that some – usually most interesting – titles, due to various reasons, may disappear from the service.

In other words, the fact the book was available three years ago doesn’t mean you can get it via Kindle Unlimited today. I suggest you should assume that the service works similarly to Netflix: books originally published for Kindle Unlimited usually stay there forever, but books that enter the catalog through agreements with other publishers may be removed from the catalog one day.

This list is intended to help you quickly find out which books are available in Kindle Unlimited today, so that you can make a deliberate decision whether to join Kindle Unlimited or get the subscription again.

Although Amazon are trying their best to let users find Kindle Unlimited books, it’s confusing which ebooks are a part of the subscription and which are not. It’s because Amazon offers several subscription-based services that need to be marked one way or another – and they compete with each other.

Plus, many customers still confuse Kindle Unlimited with Amazon Prime Reading , FreeTime Unlimited, or Kindle Owners’ Lending Library (with the last service being discontinued).

5 ways to find Kindle Unlimited ebooks

1. browse kindle unlimited catalog.

Best for: Users who are not Kindle Unlimited members

This is the best option for anyone who is not an active Kindle Unlimited subscriber. What’s more, you can see which books are available via the service even if you are not logged in to Amazon.

Go to Kindle Unlimited eligible books page in your browser, and you are ready to browse the catalog of currently available titles.

How to find Kindle Unlimited books - enter the entire catalog

Entering the catalog of Kindle Unlimited eligible books is the best option if you want to find the most interesting titles in your favorite genres. For that, you can use all the standard tools the left-hand sidebar gives:

  • Browse the titles by category – when you click on a genre, let’s say “Literature & Fiction,” the list expands to sub-categories.
  • Narrow down the list of results to new titles only – in the “New Releases” section.
  • Find Kindle Unlimited books that come with audiobook companions – currently there are several thousands of Kindle Unlimited books you can enjoy by both reading and listening. Choose an option called “Audible Narration” to see them.
  • Show only the best-rated titles – select how many stars the book should have to be displayed. This option, under the title “Avg. Customer Review,” can be seen when you scroll down the page a bit.

Search tools are useful if you plan to spend some time on exploring Kindle Unlimited. If you prefer taking a quick look at what’s currently available, just look at the list of highlights which appear right under “Browse Kindle Unlimited Books” headline:

  • Popular in Kindle Unlimited
  • Popular Romance
  • Popular Mystery, Thriller, & Suspense
  • Popular Books with Narration

If you are logged in to Amazon, the list may be adjusted to show you the categories you are particularly interested in, which is based on your browsing and purchasing history.

The highlighted books are a way for Amazon to suggest you the books they think you will love. I prefer another way to find the most popular titles, which is based on an actual number of downloaded copies.

To reveal the most downloaded Kindle Unlimited books, scroll down the page to see the list like this:

Kindle Unlimited - list of most downloaded books

Some time ago, Amazon changed the way they display the number of results. For a long time, search result pages were showing the total number of matching items. Right now, they are less informative (and even misleading), saying “over 70,000 results” or “over 80,000 results.”

Don’t get the wrong impression – there are over a million Kindle Unlimited books , not just 70 or 80 thousand. But right now, the correct number is known only to Amazon.

What I like about this simple list is that it displays all the signals that I need to judge whether it’s worth downloading the book:

  • Number of reviews.
  • Date of release.
  • The regular price – single information that justifies paying a monthly Kindle Unlimited fee.

When I change the sort option (in the top-right corner) to “Publication Date,” I will see the newly released Kindle Unlimited books.

2. Visit Kindle Unlimited welcome page

Best for: Active Kindle Unlimited subscribers

If you are a registered Kindle Unlimited member, a much more convenient option than the one listed above is to go to a front page dedicated exclusively for the members of the program.

Enter amazon.com/kindleunlimited to see Kindle Unlimited at a glance.

Tip: If you are not logged in to Amazon, after clicking a link above you will be asked to log in. If you have multiple Amazon accounts, make sure to log in with the one that holds your active Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Kindle Unlimited - front page for registered users

Why is this solution better than exploring the entire Kindle Unlimited catalog? Here are the reasons:

  • You see new and notable books right away – there is no need to sort books by publication date; you see all the best new books first.
  • You see the books you are most likely to read next – Amazon is analyzing your browsing history and displays most relevant books. What’s even better, these books are grouped by category, browsing history, and shopping history.
  • Get instant access to top features and deals – the top banner displays what’s currently hot, including new books and deals that are available only for active members. You don’t want to miss the chance to save 40% on Kindle Unlimited extend plan, do you?

If you are a heavy Kindle Unlimited user, make sure to bookmark the front page in your browser for quick access any time you want.

3. Look for Kindle Unlimited signals on list and search pages

You can browse the entire Amazon site and still be able to locate Kindle Unlimited books.

The way Amazon marks eligible books is constantly evolving. It may be even different for different users. However, there are two main ways to spot Kindle Unlimited books on the list and search result pages.

Kindle Unlimited strip on the top of a book cover

One clear you are looking at a Kindle Unlimited eligible book is a strip at the top of a Kindle book cover, like in the example below.

Find Kindle Unlimited books by strip on a book cover

The rules are confusing, as the Kindle Unlimited logo sometimes competes with “Look Inside” layer. From what I’ve found, Kindle Unlimited is placed on hand-picked pages, such as:

  • Editor’s picks
  • Kindle deals (daily and monthly)
  • Special selections.

You won’t find it on all search pages, or category pages.

$0,00 price tag with Kindle Unlimited label

On other Amazon pages, especially on search results lists, you will find another way of marking Kindle Unlimited eligible books.

In the list view, next to the title, you will see the $0,00 price tag followed by Kindle Unlimited logo. Depending on whether you are a member or not, this message will be displayed with either “Read for Free” or “Buy Now” button.

4. Check out the info on a single Kindle book page

Best for: Current Kindle Unlimited users

When you are searching on Amazon for the specific Kindle book you with to read, you will in the end land on each title’s product detail page.

It’s where you can also find hints whether the book is Kindle Unlimited eligible. However, displayed messages strongly depend on your current status: whether you are logged in to Amazon, from which country you visit the site, and whether you are an active Kindle Unlimited subscriber.

Therefore, the single Kindle book page is a reliable source of Kindle Unlimited eligibility only for registered members. This is what you will see.

Kindle Unlimited info on Amazon single product page

There are two places which inform you that the book is included in your Kindle Unlimited subscription:

  • Formats section – under the title of the book, there are several boxes that represent different formats of the book. On the left, where usually Kindle edition’s price is displayed, you will see a price tag $0.00 followed by the Kindle Unlimited logo.
  • “Add to cart” widget – on the right side, there is a box that enables you to buy the product. The usual “Buy” button is replaced by “Read for Free.” Above it, you will find the Kindle Unlimited logo and the message “Included with your membership.”

In a drop-down list, select the desired device and then click the “Read for Free” to get the book instantly delivered.

5. Explore Kindle Unlimited recommendations in your Kindle app

Good for: Kindle Unlimited members and non-members

The best thing about Kindle Unlimited is that you don’t have to visit the Amazon website to explore eligible books.

Amazon is constantly improving their ecosystem to make subscription-based services as widely available as possible. That’s why, you can see recommended Kindle Unlimited books not only on your Kindle or Amazon Fire, but also in Kindle apps for iOS (iPhone), iPadOS, or Android.

All you have to do is tap “Discover” tab on the bottom navigation bar, and then tap the text saying “Kindle Unlimited.”

Find Kindle Unlimited books on iPad

Kindle Unlimited and Amazon Prime recommendations are shown in Kindle apps, no matter whether you are an active member or not.

Plus, if you are currently subscribed and own an Apple device, you can get the book instantly – there is no need to visit the Amazon website to buy the book.

Conclusions

One of the reasons users cancel Kindle Unlimited is that they can’t find books they would like to read. It’s true that the service doesn’t include many bestsellers from big publishers, but on the other side, there are hundreds of interesting books that are worth reading.

Having in mind the fact that most Top 100 Kindle bestsellers are included in the subscription, it’s just a matter of spending enough time on exploring the catalog of eligible books or finding the most efficient way of discovering next Kindle Unlimited books to read.

Big magic: creative living beyond fear.

by ELIZABETH GILBERT

Once upon a time, there was a man named Jack Gilbert, who was not related to me – unfortunately for me.

Jack Gilbert was a great poet, but if you’ve never heard of him, don’t worry about it. It’s not your fault. He never much cared about being known. But I knew about him, and I loved him dearly from a respectful distance, so let me tell you about him.

Jack Gilbert was born in Pittsburgh in 1925 and grew up in the midst of that city’s smoke, noise, and industry. He worked in factories and steel mills as a young man, but was called from an early age to write poetry. He answered the call without hesitation. He became a poet the way other men become monks: as a devotional practice, as an act of love, and as a lifelong commitment to the search for grace and transcendence. I think this is probably a very good way to become a poet. Or to become anything, really, that calls to your heart and brings you to life.

Singing the praises of ebooks, how to see the books you’ve read on kindle unlimited (updated).

how to check kindle unlimited books

Before this change, you found the books you had previously read under the “Manage Your Content and Devices” link under Your Account tab. Now, that method  only shows you the books you currently have borrowed from Kindle Unlimited. You can no longer see previously borrowed titles here.

Now, you can only see the lists of books you have previously borrowed on your “Your Memberships & Subscriptions” page.

UPDATE: The original method is working again. The method that follows is an alternative method for accessing the books you’ve read.

Getting to the page:.

Please note: Amazon uses dynamic pages for their website and frequently tests new designs, so all customers do not always see the same site. It will also vary depending on whether you are browsing the web on a desktop, laptop, tablet, ir phone or whether you use the Amazon Shopping app. Therefore, I am posting several different ways ways to find the Kindle Unlimited history lists.

So far, I have found several ways to get to the page where you can see your borrowed books.:

From your account:

Method one:

Click on Your Account, the choose “Your Memberships & Subscriptions” link under your account tab. If you do not see any subscriptions, click on the arrow in the section that say “Don’t see your subscription? Take me to my…”. Choose “Kindle Unlimited.” This works on the Amazon Mobile shopping App and the web browser on mobile and on a desktop.

Method two:

On the right side of the menu bar, mouseover or click your name and account. Choose “Your Kindle Unlimited” under the tab. This works on a desktop

Other desktop methods:

Directly:  If you are logged in to your Amazon account, you can get there directly via  https://www.amazon.com/kindle-dbs/ku/ku-central.

Kindle Unlimited main page:  From the drop down menu in the upper left corner, choose Kindle E-Readers and Books>Kindle Unlimited. This takes you to the main KU page.

If you are not logged in or do not currently subscribe to Kindle Unlimited, you will see the page to sign up.

If you are currently a member, you will see a slider with promotions:

how to check kindle unlimited books

Under the slider, you will see four links: Browse the catalog, Manage your titles, Frequently Asked Questions, and Gift Kindle Unlimited. Click on Manage your titles under the slider. This takes you to “Manage your Kindle Unlimited Membership” page where you will see info about your membership, payment and cancellation options, as well a your borrowed books

On my Chrome browser window, there is also a gray bar at the bottom of the window with “Your Kindle Unlimited titles”  on one side and “Manage Your Titles on the other. Click on the bar to go to the “Manage your Kindle Unlimited Membership” page.

The Borrowed items page:

Under your borrowed items, you will see the number of total titles you currently have borrowed. Underneath are your options for showing Kindle Unlimited titles.

  • Show all, current or returned books.
  • Sort by Title (A-Z and Z-A), Author (A-Z and Z-A), and Borrow Date (Oldest -Newest and Newest-Oldest).

On my mobile app, I only see a large orange button saying “Return.”

Note that, according to one of my readers, if you have cancelled Kindle Unlimited at any time and re-subscribed, you will NOT see the titles from your previous subscription period.

Need more help?

Amazon is currently making a number of changes to Kindle Unlimited. Current changes include issues with gifting Kindle Unlimited and buying pre-paid subscriptions. I have seen pages related to the subscription service come and go, then return over the past few weeks. I suspect that these changes will continue and plan to discuss some of those changes in a followup post.

The main help page for Kindle limited is here , however, the help page has not seemed to address the most recent KU problems. You may also be able to find additional information on the official  Amazon forums .

Kindle Unlimited features unlimited access to over a million titles, and includes audiobooks. Kindle Unlimited books can be read on any Kindle device, including apps, ereaders and tablets. From Amazon.com, it is available only in the United States. It is available internationally in select countries through the local, country-specific Amazon site.

Thanks for the update. I’m not a member of KU, but I shared your original post and it gets a lot of hits on my site. So I added a new link for the update.

Thanks so much, Carol! ❤

Thanks – and, I’ll also confirm that once you’ve stopped your subscription, you can’t see what you have read. 😦

Just a couple of months ago, when I had unsubscribed Kindle Unlimited, I could still see what books I had borrowed/returned, etc. Now, nada. This is disturbing because how can one know if they have previously read a book they are about to purchase if there is no record?

Everything You Need to Know About Kindle Unlimited

One of my favorite Amazon subscriptions is Kindle Unlimited . I’m not ALWAYS a member, but I’d say at least 50% of the time, I have an active membership and it’s such a great way to access millions of ebooks to read on your Kindle ereader or the Kindle app on your phone or tablet.

The thing about Amazon is that they have so many different subscriptions and programs, it can be hard to keep track of what they all include. There’s Prime, there is Audible , there is Amazon Kids +, there’s Prime Reading and First Reads and probably a dozen others that I don’t even know about.

what is kindle unlimited

What is Kindle Unlimited and how does it work?

Kindle Unlimited is a monthly subscription that gives you access to a massive library of Kindle books (ebooks) – more than a million titles!

The next most common question asked is how much is Kindle Unlimited? It usually costs $11.99 per month and then you can read as many books as you want from the Kindle Unlimited library.

There is also included Audible narration, which is a way for Kindle Unlimited books to read to you, available for thousands of the titles (you can see all the ones with narration here ). You’ll also see a little headphones icon on Amazon if it includes narration.

what is kindle unlimited

Some FAQs about Kindle Unlimited

Do you need a Kindle to use Kindle Unlimited?  No! You can use the free Kindle app on your phone or tablet and your Kindle Unlimited books (or any other Kindle books you buy). That said, I LOVE my Kindle Reader and can’t recommend one highly enough. I wrote a whole post about why I love my Kindle here and why I think it’s worth buying.

What books are worth reading on Kindle Unlimited? I’ll be the first to say that of the millions of Kindle Unlimited titles , many of them are ones you probably have no interest in reading. But there are a lot of gems and all of my absolute favorite Kindle Unlimited books for adults are on this list and the best Kindle Unlimited books for kids is here ! (the deal will be gone by then, so grab it now !).

How to get Kindle Unlimited? Make sure you are signed into your Amazon account and follow this link . All you have to do is click on “Start Your 30-day free trial” and your subscription will start immediately, allowing you to have access to the millions of titles. Keep in mind, the $9.99 will be charged 30 days after that free trial ends. This is a great way to try it out and see if you think Kindle Unlimited would be a good fit for you!

Do you own the books you get from Kindle Unlimited?  No, it’s like a lending library – once you cancel your subscription, you’ll no longer have access to those books.

How many Kindle Unlimited titles can you have at once?  Kindle Unlimited limits you to 20 books at a time, so once you have twenty books checked out, you’ll need to return one to get a new one in your library.

What’s the difference between Prime Reading and Kindle Unlimited? Prime Reading is a free perk that comes with your Prime membership and gives you access to about a thousand titles, versus the million plus titles in Kindle Unlimited.

Is Kindle Unlimited free with an Amazon Prime membership? No, Kindle Unlimited is a separate subscription.

How do I cancel Kindle Unlimited? Just sign into your Amazon account and under the “Accounts and Lists” menu, find “Your Kindle Unlimited.” When you click it, a new page will open and there is a button the left-hand side that says “Cancel Kindle Unlimited Membership.” Click that and it’ll let you cancel it (your membership will stay active until the end of the current billing period). Also, when you go to cancel Kindle Unlimited, they’ll often offer you another discount like a free month or three more months at 99 cents a month or something.

Any other questions that I didn’t answer?  Let me know in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer! And if you do have Kindle Unlimited, I’d love to know if you think it’s worth it!

I purchased a new Kindle, 2-weeks ago, and bought two books which I read easily. I then subscribed to Kindle Unlimited Free-trial 3-days ago, and chose a qualifying book. I see the book’s cover in my library, however, there is an “X” on the corner of the book, and I cannot open it up. I have been trying for 3-days to figure out what is wrong, with no luck. I sent a message to Amazon to ask about this, with no reply. Is there any way to get help? My Kindle came with the Kindle icon, so I assume I have the Kindle App already installed.

Hello! Please help! I’ve searched all over for an answer. Even called Amazon and they didn’t know the answer(!). You see, I just purchased a Kindle Oasis (I’ll receive it in about a week). I did not sign up for Kindle Unlimited, and probably won’t. My question is this: Many books on Amazon are listed as “Kindle Unlimited”, and underneath this will say something like “$3.99 to buy.” If I want to buy and download a particular book that’s listed as “Kindle Unlimited”, but I don’t have a subscription to Kindle Unlimited, can I still buy this book, download it, and keep it forever without having a Kindle Unlimited subscription? Thanks for your help with this! Jim Grandon

Yes – if you buy it, its yours forever. Doesn’t matter whether or not you have Kindle Unlimited.

Actually they’re yours until your Amazon account is csncelled. Mine recently got hacked. Amazon’s solution after a week and several hours on the phone was to cancel my Amazon account. Easy fix for them but I lost the 375 books that I mistakenly thought since I purchased them I would have them forever. I have 0 books and 0 compensation and now can start over.

October 15, 2023 at 12:39 pm

This is not true. If the books get removed from Kindle’s repertoire, it gets removed from your account whether or not you’ve read it. Also, there is a limit to how many books can be downloaded at once. If you have 10 books already downloaded, you will be required to remove one to add any other.

Kindle Unlimited actually has several limitations.

May 3, 2022 at 10:21 am

I’m curious as to if there are *purchasing* discounts with a KU subscription?

I like to reread, and so purchasing so I can do at any time (certainly outside the 10-at-a-time limit) is much more effective for me. But I cannot seem to find a clear answer as to if there is any difference between purchasing with or without a KU subscription.

' src=

May 5, 2022 at 2:16 pm

If you have a KU subscription, and are looking at a book in the KU library, the main button will say ‘Read for Free’ instead of ‘Buy with 1-Click’ (or whatever the usual wording is, I haven’t logged out of my account to check) and the default is to borrow the book. But there is a link right below that button to purchase instead. If I like a KU book well enough to re-read it, I usually do purchase the second time around, and it’s easy enough to do that. You don’t get a discount or anything, though. Kind of like in a physical book store – whether you have a library card or not doesn’t affect the purchase.

The KU library limit did just get increased (I think it’s 20 now instead of 10), but I totally get not wanting to use up one of those precious spaces on the off chance that you might want to re-read something later. It’s easier to return it, and when you want to re-read you can either purchase a copy or re-borrow (if it’s still in the KU library, I think they do occasionally rotate books out).

I like to read e-book and then listen when I have to get up and do things, I’ve found whispersync to be a great resource. Occas I buy Kindle books this way or I do it via my library by checking out e-reader and e-audiobook (cumbersome and inperfect].

What is the best way to do this by purchasing a subscription- Kindle unlimited? Doesn’t seem like Audible gets me any e-reader option.

I’d say Kindle Unlimited is better for what you’re looking for!

So here’s my question let’s say I buy like 10 books on kindle unlimited does that mean I can only “check out” 10 more? And like if I buy 20 books can I not “check out” any of the free ones?

January 19, 2023 at 6:56 am

You’re never buying books on Kindle Unlimited, but you are limited to 20 check outs at once. If you want more than that, you’ll need to return a few and then you can check out more. Does that make sense?

I bought my mom a year’s Kindle unlimited subscription for Christmas. We redeemed the membership the day after Christmas. She called and said that her credit card had been charged for 14 books. Help!! Is she ordering them incorrectly? Who do I contact to get her refunded? I have her email telling her that she had been gifted Kindle Unlimited, and I have a copy of my invoice showing that I had paid for the membership on my credit card. Please give me advice on how to proceed.

January 29, 2023 at 8:38 am

My guess is that she thinks Kindle Unlimited means she has unlimited access to all Kindle books, rather than just the books included in the Kindle Unlimited library (they’ll be clearly marked as Kindle Unlimited books) and so she’s buying ebooks that are NOT Kindle Unlimited books, thinking they’re free. Contact Amazon customer service and they can help straighten things out.

So I have the kindle app and also have the KU subscription already. I want to get a kindle for my birthday, I noticed on amazon it has 2 options under the kindle “Without Kindleunlimited” and “with Kindleunlimited” so i’m just confused, if i buy the “without KU” one will I still be able to just log into my KU account I already have? I’m just confused because I thought all kindles were able to have KU as long as you have a subscription so i don’t understand the option.

February 25, 2024 at 7:16 pm

It’ll be 3 free months of KU if you choose the option to have it.

What is kindle unlimited.

Our complete guide to Kindle Unlimited explains what it is, how it works, the cost, the type of content available, and why you should try it

Unless you're an avid reader of digital books, you may not have heard of Kindle Unlimited. Kindle Unlimited is an e-book subscription service from Amazon that gives you access to millions of books, audiobooks, comics, and magazines for a monthly fee. There are no hidden costs or due dates, and you can install the app on most devices with a screen, particularly the best of Amazon's Kindle lineup .

How to get Kindle Unlimited

Kindle Unlimited is a monthly subscription service from Amazon and the Kindle app. You don't need to be an Amazon Prime member to join Kindle Unlimited. However, you need a valid payment method on your account. You also need to have made at least one purchase from Amazon.

When that's squared away, signing up is easy. Go to the Kindle Unlimited subscription page and click Start your 30-day free trial . That's it. When your 30 days are up, Amazon charges you $11.99 every month.

You can read over 4 million books at no cost when you're a member. You can check out up to 20 titles at a time and keep them in your library for as long as you want. In addition to books, Kindle Unlimited includes access to magazine subscriptions, audiobooks, and comics.

How much does Kindle Unlimited cost?

Kindle Unlimited costs $11.99 for users of the US site. The service is available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the UK. Pricing and book availability vary by country. Amazon occasionally runs promotions with longer trial periods, and three months of Kindle Unlimited is included when you order a Kindle device from Amazon.

Why should you try Kindle Unlimited?

If you like to read books, you don't have much to lose by trying out Amazon's free 30-day membership. It's a great way to discover new authors and genres or catch up on your reading list. Kindle Unlimited is a lot like Netflix. It gives you access to a massive library of content and gets better at recommending new content the more you read in the Kindle ecosystem.

A service like Kindle Unlimited is a good way to read books without filling up your bookshelves or making a dent in your wallet. Reading two books a month is usually all it takes to recoup your investment.

Kindle Unlimited isn't for everyone

If digital books are distasteful and you yearn for the tactile nature and familiar smell of a paperback or the solidity and heft of a hardback, Kindle Unlimited might not be for you. If you need to cancel your membership, you can do so with a few clicks.

You can access a pool of free books in Prime Reading if you're an Amazon Prime member . The number of books available is smaller (about 2,000 titles), but it's constantly updated with new content while old content is cycled out.

How to use Kindle Unlimited

The best way to use Kindle Unlimited is by downloading the Kindle app to the device you read from. If your primary reading device is a Kindle, the app is preinstalled. You can also download the Kindle app to your Mac or PC if you want to read on your computer. After installing Kindle on your desktop, Android, or iOS device , look for the books marked with Kindle Unlimited branding or jump to the Kindle Unlimited page to find your next book.

The Kindle reader is preinstalled on Kindle Paperwhite, Oasis, and other Kindle devices . There are several to choose from, and Amazon has released updated versions over the years. To get the best Kindle, check out our comprehensive guide .

You can find e-books in the Kindle Unlimited section at Amazon.com or the Kindle app to download. Go to the general book section and look for the Kindle Unlimited logo on the cover or in the listing to make sure you can get it for free. When you're finished with a book, click Return to make space for another e-book.

If you checked out 20 titles and then download another, you're reminded to return one of the e-books on your device. You'll never pay extra for a Kindle Unlimited e-book, but you can buy a book if you want to keep it forever.

Is Kindle Unlimited worth the cost?

Considering the vast amount of e-books and other content, Kindle Unlimited is a great value. However, with any subscription, it's a good idea to take a moment to consider how often you use it and whether your money might be better spent elsewhere.

Another great thing about Kindle Unlimited is that you can share it with family members, reducing the cost per person. The monthly cost averages about $3 per person in a four-person household. Still, you must figure out how to share a download space limited to 20 e-books.

Since the subscription is monthly, you can cancel at any time and resubscribe later with no penalty. You might want to get Kindle Unlimited for a vacation or when you have extra time. A good e-book lasts longer than a movie and is often more satisfying.

To Kindle or not to Kindle

If you've never tried Kindle Unlimited, sign up for a free 30-day trial and cancel before the subscription starts if you decide against it. This is a risk-free way to explore what it has to offer. When your reading appetite is larger than your budget, check out the free e-books you can read on your Kindle e-reader or Fire tablet.

Amazon Kindle Unlimited

Open up almost the entire Kindle library on your phone, tablet, computer, and, of course, on your Kindle e-reader. If you're the type to blow through a whole trilogy in a weekend, Kindle Unlimited can keep up with your habit for the price of one book rather than paying for each individually. Avid readers also listen along to tens of thousands of audiobooks when their eyes are too tired from reading, but you need to hear what happens next.

Among the many services and subscriptions offered by Amazon, one that should pique the interest of avid readers is Kindle Unlimited . But with all the different ways we can get and consume our books nowadays, it can be hard to keep track and weigh the pros and cons of the services that are out there. Today, I’m here to help answer the question: How does Kindle Unlimited work (and is it right for you)?

The Basics: How Does Kindle Unlimited Work?

  • Subscribing to Kindle Unlimited will give you free access to over a million Kindle titles, which include ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines.
  • Kindle Unlimited titles can be read on any Amazon device or Kindle app.
  • You can borrow titles as often as you want with no due dates, and can keep up to ten at a time.

If this all sounds good to you so far (and why shouldn’t it?!), let’s get into some of the grittier details.

An image of a hand holding a kindle at the opening of a tent in the mountains

What do you need to be able to use Kindle Unlimited?

All you need is an Amazon account with a valid credit card, and to have 1-Click payment enabled. And since Kindle Unlimited is accessible via  the Kindle app (available for iOS, Android, Mac, or PC), you don’t even need a Kindle device!

To enable 1-Click:

  • Under “Your Account,” go to “Your Content and Devices.”

how does kindle unlimited work

  • Click the “Preferences” tab.

  • Set up your 1-Click payment method under the first heading, “Digital Payment Settings.”

Is Kindle Unlimited free for Prime members?

No. Kindle Unlimited is a separate subscription service from Amazon Prime, which also means it is not necessary to be a Prime member to get Kindle Unlimited.

There is a different borrowing service that IS free and exclusive to Prime members in the United States, called Prime Reading, that is similar but offers a much smaller library of content than Kindle Unlimited (over 1,000 titles available through Prime Reading versus over 4,000,000 titles available through Kindle Unlimited). You can learn more about Prime Reading vs. Kindle Unlimited here .

Kindle Unlimited Explained

How does kindle unlimited work, how much does kindle unlimited cost.

  • Step-by-Step: Sign Up for Kindle Unlimited
  • Cancel a Kindle Unlimited Subscription

Kindle Unlimited is sort of like Netflix for Amazon's digital e-books, called Kindle books .

You pay a monthly subscription fee for access to the full Kindle Unlimited library where you can read and enjoy as many Kindle books as you want. That's exactly why it's called "Unlimited."

Book publishers can choose to include their books in Kindle Unlimited when they list them on Amazon. There are over one million book titles, thousands of audiobooks and popular magazines included in the Kindle Unlimited library.

Just like you don't own movies you watch on Netflix or songs you listen to on Spotify , you don't own any books you read through Kindle Unlimited. You're essentially borrowing them until you're finished reading them and decide to remove them from your account—or until you decide to end your Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Kindle Unlimited works in a similar way to purchasing regular Kindle books. When you want to read a Kindle Unlimited book, you add it to your account and deliver it to your devices with just one click. The only real difference is that you're not charged for the individual price of the book.

Kindle Unlimited is $9.99 a month. Amazon offers a 30-day free trial so you can try it out and see how you like it before you decide to pay for a subscription.

How Do I Sign Up for Kindle Unlimited?

Follow these instructions to sign up for your 30-day free trial and start reading your first title.

Go to Amazon.com in a web browser.

In the app, type "Kindle Unlimited" in the search bar. At the top of the page, is a clickable link to sign up for Kindle Unlimited and start your free trial or sign up for a subscription.

If you're not already signed in, hover your cursor over Hello, Sign in in the top right corner to enter your login details and sign in to your account.

Enter Kindle Store in the search field and Return.

Select Kindle Store Kindle Unlimited in the search results.

Select Learn More under Kindle Unlimited at the top of the screen.

Select the 30-Day Free Trial option. During special promotions, the free trial may be for 3 months. Whichever one you see, the price should show as $0.00.

Select the Start your free trial button. Your free trial starts immediately. Unless you cancel before the trial period ends, the payment method you have listed at Amazon is charged. If you don't have a payment method on file, you are prompted to enter one.

After you successfully sign up, you are taken to a page with suggested Kindle Unlimited titles to start reading. You can browse through these or see the full Kindle Unlimited library by typing "Kindle Unlimited books" in the search field or by selecting Kindle Store in the Department section of the sidebar.

If you want to browse Kindle Unlimited titles on the Amazon mobile app, the best way to do it is to use the search field at the top to do a search for "kindle unlimited," "kindle unlimited books" or a related term since there's no dedicated section in the menu labeled Kindle Unlimited like there is on Amazon.com.

When you're ready to start reading your first book through Kindle Unlimited, select the title to go to its Kindle page and select the gold Read for Free button or the Read and Listen for Free button (for books with audio elements) to the right of it. The title is automatically added to your content and any devices you have integrated with your Amazon account.

To see all of your Kindle Unlimited titles, hover your cursor over Your Account & Lists at the top of the screen and select Your Kindle Unlimited in the drop-down menu.

Scroll down on the Your Kindle Unlimited page to the Your Borrowed Items section to see a list of up to 10 books you've borrowed. Select Read Now next to a book to read it on any of your compatible devices or select Return to make space for a new item.

You're now all set to read and enjoy your newly added Kindle Unlimited books on your Kindle device, on your iOS or Android device through the Kindle app , on your Mac with the Kindle Mac app or on the web with Amazon Cloud Reader .

Even though you can enjoy an unlimited number of titles through Kindle Unlimited, you can only keep up to 10 titles in your account at a time. If you already have 10 in your account and want to add more, you'll have to delete at least one title to make room.

How Do I Cancel My Kindle Unlimited Subscription?

If you decide that you want to end your Kindle Unlimited subscription either before or after the free trial, you can do that on the same Your Kindle Unlimited page that lists your borrowed books. Just select the Cancel Kindle Unlimited Membership button.

If you already have an Amazon Prime membership , you might not need Kindle Unlimited at all since you automatically have access to Amazon Prime Reading .

how to check kindle unlimited books

Is there a way to see how many books I’ve read?

does kindle unlimited keep track of the books you have read after you’ve returned them? Thanks

how to check kindle unlimited books

The answer to your question is maybe, sort of.

You said 'after you've returned them".

Where do you get your books, and what do you mean by 'return'?

If you are buying books from Amazon, or sending books to your Kindle App using the 'send to Kindle' function, then they will remain in your 'Library' in the Amazon cloud - unless and until you specifically direct that they be deleted. This is a case where terminology is very important, and unfortunately, Amazon has created confusion by using different terminology on Kindle Readers and the Kindle App.

On the App, the options are:

  • Remove Download - this removes the book from the device, but retains it in the Amazon Cloud
  • Remove from Home - this deletes the book from both the device and the Amazon Cloud

On a Kindle Reader, the options are:

  • Remove Download: - this removes the book from the device while retaining it in the Amazon Cloud
  • Permanently Delete - this deletes the book from both the device and the Amazon Cloud

But - you specifically asked about keeping track of the books you have read , and if we take that phrase literally, things are a bit more complicated. Obvioiusly, Kindle can't see into your mind to determine literally what you have read. But both the App and the Kindle Reader appear to have an algorithm that infers that a book has been read if you progress all the way through to the last page of the book. However, if the book includes additional material at the end (author biography, notes, the first chapter in the author's next book, etc), and you stop reading before you get all the way through that stuff, the algorithm will infer that you have not read the book - which may be an incorrect inference. And of course, that flag will only be retained on books that continue to exist in your Library (on the Amazon Cloud).

However, both the Kindle Reader and the Kindle app allow you to specifically declare a book as having been 'read' regardless of how far into it you actually got.

But there is yet another wrinkle to consider - Goodreads. This is a system owned by Amazon that tracks the books that are added to your Kindle account - purchased, Library loads, Kindle Unlimited, etc. As far as I can tell, it does not capture books or documents that are added to your library using the 'Send to Kindle' feature or some other form of sideloading.

how to check kindle unlimited books

OP clearly stated "kindle unlimited". Subscribers to this Amazon program have to return books in order to borrow more.

how to check kindle unlimited books

KU has a counter someplace but I do not think it is accessible by the end user. Amazon has a very high but finite limit to prevent automated borrow/read/return bots from trying to game the system to get royalites for an author. (And don't think people won't try this.)

The limit is somewhere beyond what would be possible for any human to actually read so no honest person will ever hit it.

KU authors are paid out of one pot of money shared by all whose books get borrowed and read in any given time frame, probably monthly.

Okay, so you just found that Kindle Unlimited is a lucrative deal, and you signed up for it! But, now what? The first question you probably will have on your mind is – how do I access Kindle Unlimited books? How to know which books are available with Kindle Unlimited?

To access Kindle Unlimited eligible books on Amazon, you can search for “Kindle Unlimited” in the Amazon search bar. Then, once the result page loads, enable the checkmark for “Kindle Unlimited Eligible” on the left part of the screen. You will now only see books available with Kindle Unlimited.

In this article, I’ll walk you through the complete process of not just knowing which books are eligible for Kindle Unlimited, but I’ll also help you understand how to find some of the best books on Kindle Unlimited.

Plus, I’ll also help you understand how to access your Kindle Unlimited books on your Kindle or another device so that you can start reading! That, and much more!

So, let’s get started!

Quick Tip! Check out this special deal on Amazon that offers 3-months of Kindle Unlimited for FREE with this Kindle model ! You can also try Kindle Unlimited for 30 days for FREE (no strings attached!)

How Do You Access Kindle Unlimited? Is There a Special Login?

There are actually multiple ways to access Kindle Unlimited eligible books. And, just in case you are wondering, not all books on Amazon are available in the Kindle Unlimited service (but, I guess you probably knew that already!).

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, make sure you check out my other article on this topic !

The easiest way to access all the Kindle Unlimited books is by using the special login page for Kindle Unlimited members . Once logged in, you can see an overview of all the titles available with Kindle Unlimited, discover new books recently released, and access magazines, comics, and audiobooks.

You can use your Amazon sign-in credentials to log in to the Kindle Unlimited account. The login credentials are the same. However, in case you have multiple Amazon accounts, make sure to use the account that was used to purchase the Kindle Unlimited subscription.

how to check kindle unlimited books

As you can see in the image above, you can view the overview of various Kindle Unlimited Books on the “Overview” tab. You can also click on other tabs such as “Magazine” or “Comics” to access them respectively. Do note that you get access to a total of 3 magazines or comics with Kindle Unlimited each month.

Likewise, you can also click on the “Discover (NEW)” tab to see books that have been recently added to the Kindle Unlimited library. You can also access books published as part of the Amazon KDP program under the “Amazon Originals” tab.

How to Find Kindle Unlimited Books on Amazon?

As I mentioned previously, there are multiple ways in which you can access Kindle Unlimited Eligible books. Let’s take a look at each of the ways one by one.

Method 1 – Using the Kindle Unlimited Login Page

The first method to accessing all the Kindle Unlimited eligible books on Amazon is by using the special login page for Kindle Unlimited members (the same as the one described above). Here’s a step by step process of what you need to do –

Step 1 – Visit the Kindle Unlimited Sign in Page

how to check kindle unlimited books

The first steps is to visit the Kindle Unlimited sign in page . If you aren’t logged into your account, you will be asked to “Sign in”.

If you are already signed in, you can skip the step 2.

Step 2 – Login to Your Kindle Unlimited Account

how to check kindle unlimited books

Next, enter your username and password to login to your Kindle Unlimited account. If you are greeted with the screen asking you to sign up for the service, it is possible that you haven’t subscribed to the Kindle Unlimited service or perhaps you are using an incorrect Amazon account.

If you have multiple Amazon accounts, make sure to use the one used for signing up for Kindle Unlimited.

Step 3 – Explore Your Kindle Unlimited Account

how to check kindle unlimited books

Once you’ve logged in successfully, you will be able to see only the books that are Kindle Unlimited eligible.

Feel free to scroll down the page to see different book options. Furthermore, don’t miss out on the various tabs to help filter different types of titles available within Kindle Unlimited.

Method 2 – Using Amazon Search Bar

Another method of finding Kindle Unlimited books on Amazon is using the search bar provided by Amazon. You can use this method to find Kindle Unlimited eligible books in 2 easy steps mentioned below –

Step 1 – Type “Kindle Unlimited” in the Search Bar

how to check kindle unlimited books

In this method, go to Amazon.com and type in “Kindle Unlimited” in the search bar as you would normally search for a product on Amazon. Then, press “Enter”.

Step 2 – Enable the “Kindle Unlimited Eligible” Option

how to check kindle unlimited books

Once all the results load, make sure to enable the “Kindle Unlimited” option from the left part of the screen. This will filter and show only the Kindle Unlimited eligible titles in the search result.

From here, you can also further click on any sub-category once you’ve enable the “Kindle Unlimited” option, and you will be able to narrow down the Kindle Unlimited eligible books in that specific category!

Method 3 – Using the Menu Options

Another method to access the Kindle Unlimited eligible books from Amazon is using the navigation menu on the Amazon website.

Here’s what you need to do explained in a step-by-step manner –

Step 1 – Click on the “All” Menu Option

how to check kindle unlimited books

To find Kindle Unlimited eligible books using the menu, first, click on the “All” button on the top left corner of the Amazon site. This will open up a hamburger menu.

Step 2 – Click on the “Kindle E-readers and ebooks” Option

how to check kindle unlimited books

From the options that appear in the hamburger menu, scroll down, locate and click on the “Kindle E-readers & Books” option. This will open up another menu page.

Step 3 – Click on the “Kindle Unlimited” Option

how to check kindle unlimited books

Next, from the options presented, click on the “Kindle Unlimited” option. This option will lead you to the Kindle Unlimited dashboard that we saw in method 1.

Step 4 – Browse the Catalog

how to check kindle unlimited books

Once you land on the Kindle Unlimited dashboard, you can either scroll through the page to see a few options, browse through the default tabs provided by Amazon, or click on the “Browse the catalog” option (recommended).

Doing so will open up a detailed page with several book options.

Method 4 – Checking the “Kindle Unlimited” tag on Individual Books

The last method that I’d like to share will allow you to distinguish Kindle Unlimited eligible books among all the other ebooks on Amazon.

how to check kindle unlimited books

Simply look for the “Kindle Unlimited” tag on top of the image of the book. This signifies that the book is eligible for Kindle Unlimited readers. Using this tag helps you easily spot a “Kindle Unlimited” book in a range of other ebooks on Amazon.

how to check kindle unlimited books

Other than that, you can also look for the “Kindle Unlimited” label on the book purchase page. Often, you can also see the option to “Read for free” on the book purchase page of the books that are eligible with Kindle Unlimited.

Although this method doesn’t help you filter and view just the Kindle Unlimited eligible books, but it will help you understand which can be read for free if you have Kindle Unlimited subscription.

How to Find the Best Books to Read on Kindle Unlimited?

As you may already be aware, Kindle Unlimited provides access to over 2 million titles on its platform. Obviously, you won’t be able to read that many books in your lifetime! So, how can you navigate to find the best books available on this platform?

Let’s take a look!

Method 1 – Best Sellers Tag

As you browse through the books, you will notice that some books have a “Best Sellers” tag on the image. These books have received this tag since they have done really well on the Amazon platform.

how to check kindle unlimited books

But the cool thing is, you can actually click on the “Best Sellers” tag to see many more books labelled as “Best Sellers”!

how to check kindle unlimited books

Another thing to note is that you can also go back to view the best sellers across all the Kindle ebooks by clicking on the “Kindle ebooks” option in the navigation menu on the left part of the screen.

As you do that, you will see the book options filter out accordingly on the right part of the screen.

You can click on any category or genre and explore the best sellers in that specific genre. Also, do remember to keep an eye out for the “Kindle Unlimited” tag in the best seller section to view only the books that are eligible for Kindle Unlimited members (follow the method 4 described in the previous section)

Method 2 – Editor’s Pick Tag

While the books that are tagged as “Editor’s Pick” are not necessarily the best sellers, but they handpicked by Amazon for its readers and often very good books.

how to check kindle unlimited books

Just as we did with the best sellers, simply locate any book with the “Editor’s Pick” tag. Then, hover over it and click on it.

how to check kindle unlimited books

Next, you will be greeted with a screen that shows several different book options identified as “Editor’s Pick”. Like before, we can search for books in the relevant category on the left part of the screen.

It is important to note that finding “Kindle Unlimited” eligible books as part of the editor’s pick category is rather difficult as compared to the best sellers.

Method 3 – Using the “Best Sellers & More” Button

The other option to find some of the most hottest selling or most read books on Amazon is using the “Best Sellers & More” button in the menu. Here’s what you need to do –

how to check kindle unlimited books

First, navigate to the “Kindle Books” option. This will lead you to a page that shows all the “Kindle Books”. Now, simply click on the “Best Sellers & More” option in the menu on the top (as displayed in the image above).

how to check kindle unlimited books

This will open a page that shows the best sellers and more options. Here, not only will you be able to find the “Best Sellers” and “Editor’s Picks” as you scroll through the page, but you’ll also be able to browse through the Amazon charts for the best books!

Simply click on the “See the full list” button to view the most read and most sold books in different categories.

You can also click on the “Discover which books are Unputdownable” option to see more book options that are doing well!

As always, to know which books are eligible for Kindle Unlimited, make sure you open the ones that have the “Kindle Unlimited” label with the book title.

How to Find Kindle Unlimited Books with Free Audible Narration?

If you are looking for book options that are Kindle Unlimited eligible and come with a free audio, then visit the Kindle Unlimited login page and sign into your Kindle Unlimited account using the Amazon login credentials (as described in the method 1 earlier in the article)

how to check kindle unlimited books

Then, click on the “Audiobooks” tab (as shown in the image above) to see all the Kindle Unlimited books that come with a free “Audiobook”.

how to check kindle unlimited books

Next, once the page loads, you can either click on the “right-arrow”, or click on the “See more” option to see more titles with audio narration. You can click on any title with the “Kindle Unlimited” member to read and listen for free.

how to check kindle unlimited books

Lastly, on the book purchase page, make sure you see the “headphones” icon. This denotes that the book comes with an audible narration.

You can also listen to the audio sample of the narration by clicking on the “Audible sample” button (as shown in the image above).

If you like the book and are satisfied with the option, click on the “Read and Listen for Free”.

How to Search Kindle Unlimited Books by Author?

If you looking for just Kindle Unlimited books by a specific author, there is a way to find that as well. Let’s take a look at what you need to do –

Step 1 – Open the “Advanced Search” Option

how to check kindle unlimited books

The first step is to open the page showing all the Kindle books on Amazon by clicking on the “Kindle Books” option in the navigation menu.

Next, once all the books appear, click on the “Advanced Search” option. This will open up a new page.

Step 2 – Search by Author Name

how to check kindle unlimited books

In the “Advanced Search” page, type in the name of the author that you are looking for in the “Author Name” field. Then, click on “Search”.

For the sake of this example, I’m searching for books from “Colleen Hoover”.

Step 3 – Enable Kindle Unlimited Eligible Option

how to check kindle unlimited books

Amazon will now show all the books by a specific author that we searched for.

However, the results will show not just the Kindle Unlimited eligible books, but also the other books that you will need to purchase (as you may notice in the image above).

To address this issue, we shall enable the checkmark for “Kindle Unlimited” on the left part of our screen. This should filter out all the other books and show just the Kindle unlimited eligible books by the specific author.

Step 4 – Access the Kindle Unlimited Options

how to check kindle unlimited books

As you may notice, you should now be able to see just the Kindle Unlimited eligible books by the specific author that we searched for.

This is a great way to find free books to read by a specific author and leveraging the Kindle Unlimited to the fullest! You can now click on any of the books and start reading!

How to hunt down even more audiobooks on Kindle Unlimited

If you want to peruse the Kindle Unlimited audiobook catalog on your own, we highly recommend using this link to Books with Narration in Kindle Unlimited , which will limit your search results to — you guessed it! — audiobooks that are accessible through a Kindle Unlimited subscription. You should see the following screen:

You can refine your searches further with a few secondary filters like publication date, reviewer ratings, and genres. Feel free to experiment and dig around — if the search itself is part of the fun for you, it might be worth it to look for diamonds in the rough 💎

Which audiobooks are free with Kindle Unlimited?

To check if a Kindle Unlimited book has an Audible companion available, look for a pair of orange headphones next to the ebook listing. It should look like this:

To determine whether that Audible accompaniment is free , look for the “Read and listen for free” button next to any Kindle Unlimited title. It should look like this:

Kindle Unlimited ebooks that have an accompanying Audible narration that isn’t free will only say “Read for Free” (you will, however, be able to purchase these audiobooks at a discount if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription).

Remember, Kindle Unlimited is not the same as Audible

Of course, keep in mind that a Kindle Unlimited subscription is not the same as a Audible subscription. Sure, Kindle Unlimited and Audible both fall under the Amazon umbrella. But Audible audiobooks are only available for a select number of KU books where the 'narration' has been made accessible to KU subscribers. If you want access to the hundreds of thousands of audiobooks on Audible (and the hottest new books you've been hearing about), you’ll need to pony up for a separate Audible subscription.

As a reminder, here's what you do get with a Kindle Unlimited subscription :

Kindle Unlimited audiobooks can be a bit tricky to navigate, but we hope this guide helps you find your next roadtrip marathon listen or casual relaxation audiobook!

how to check kindle unlimited books

One of the Kindle’s greatest strengths is its ability to store an enormous number of books, so you can take your entire library with you wherever you go. It’s so slim and light, in fact, that you’ll never have to go anywhere again without something to read. But if you buy a new Kindle device or install the Kindle app on your phone or tablet, how do you get to your library of Kindle titles? It’s super easy—here’s what you need to know.

How to get to your library on your Kindle

Your library of books and documents is easy to get to on your Kindle—you just need to find the home page. If your Kindle is already in a book, just tap anywhere along the top of the screen. You should see a drop-down menu appear with a variety of options like font, bookmarks, and search. On the left side, you should see Home . Tap that.

Now you’re on the home page. In the From Your Library section, you can see some of your most recently opened titles. Or tap the Library tab at the bottom of the screen to browse your entire library.

But what if you don’t see your Kindle library on your Kindle at all? The good news is that your library should automatically appear on your Kindle device and on any Kindle apps you've installed on devices like your phone or tablet. You simply need to sign in with the same Amazon account that you used to purchase the Kindle books to start with. For most people, that’s easy—you probably only have a single Amazon account, so use that to sign into the Kindle device or app.

But if your Kindle device is already connected to an Amazon account that’s not yours, you’ll need to deregister it from that account and then sign in with your own. To do that, go to your Kindle’s home page and tap the three dots at the top right of the screen. In the drop-down menu, choose Settings , then Your account . Finally, tap Deregister device and follow the instructions to remove the Kindle from that account.

After that, you can sign into your own Amazon account on that Kindle and you’ll see your own Kindle book library appear on the device.

How to troubleshoot your Kindle if it’s not showing your library

Most of the time, you’ll be able to see your library on your Kindle without any difficulty. But on those rare occasions when your titles aren’t showing up on your Kindle and you know you’re signed into the right Amazon account, there are a few simple troubleshooting steps you can take.

First, make sure your Kindle is connected to the internet—you should see a Wi-Fi symbol at the top of the home page. If you don’t, tap the three dots at the top right of the screen. In the drop-down menu, choose Settings , then Wi-Fi and Bluetooth , and ensure Airplane mode is off and the device is connected to Wi-Fi.

Then swipe down from the very top of the screen to reveal the Quick Actions menu. Tap Sync and let the Kindle ensure your data is up to date.

One last thing to try: restart your Kindle. Press and hold the power button until you see the pop-up Power window. Choose Restart and let the Kindle shut off, and then turn back on again. Sync the Kindle one more time. If none of those steps work, you might need to contact Amazon’s customer service .

Kindle Unlimited

Kindle Unlimited (KU) is a subscription program where customers can read Kindle eBooks and keep them as long as they want, for a monthly subscription fee. Customers don’t have to be Amazon Prime members to enroll in Kindle Unlimited (KU). When you enroll in KDP Select , your Kindle eBook is automatically included in Kindle Unlimited (KU). Your Kindle eBook will still be available for customers to buy, and you'll continue to earn royalties from those sales.

To be included in Kindle Unlimited (KU), you must meet the KDP Select requirements and enroll your Kindle eBook in KDP Select. If you don’t want your Kindle eBook in Kindle Unlimited (KU), you have the option to remove  it from KDP Select.

How readers find Kindle Unlimited books

When customers subscribe to Kindle Unlimited (KU), they'll see a badge next to your enrolled Kindle eBook indicating it is available in Kindle Unlimited (KU). They can also visit Amazon's Kindle Unlimited (KU) page to see Kindle eBooks that are available.

You'll receive a share of the KDP Select Global Fund as individual customers read pages of your Kindle eBook for the first time.

Abonnement Kindle

In France, Kindle Unlimited (KU) is now called "Abonnement Kindle." Abonnement Kindle subscribers residing in France get reading credits when paying their subscription. These credits are "mutualized" among all subscribers residing in France. This allows all subscribers living in France to read a large number of Kindle eBooks included in their subscription.

In the context, authors established in France have to set a price per reading unit (on KDP, per page read) for their Kindle eBook that is included in "Abonnement Kindle." You can enter this price in your KDP account . KDP authors not established in France don’t need to set a price per page for their Kindle eBooks included in our Kindle eBook subscription programs.

The royalties of KDP authors based in France don’t vary based on the price per page that is set. KDP authors established in France are paid a share of the KDP Select Global Fund , as are all KDP authors.
