Regular practice of yoga is useful in maintaining good health. It is also important for good concentration and peace of mind. You are Shivam/Shabnam. Write a speech in 150-200 words to be delivered in the morning assembly of your school, highlighting the impact of yoga in our life.

Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends, a very good morning to you all. I am here today to make you aware of the importance of Yoga in our daily life.

Yoga is a spiritual and ascetic discipline, developed by the saints of ancient India. They practiced yoga as an effective method of controlling their mind and bodily activities. Nowadays many lifestyle diseases are on the rise. Most of them are either physical, mental, emotional or psychological. People are always stressed and busy in their daily lives so they fail to relax and take care of themselves and their body. As a result, they suffer from one or more lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes, depression, even cancer, at the same time. Yoga in daily life is a system of practice consisting of eight levels of development in the areas of physical, mental, social and spiritual health. When the body is physically healthy, the mind is clear, focused and stress is under control. This allows one to connect with friends and loved ones and maintain socially healthy relationships. When one is healthy, one is in touch with one’s inner-self, with others and one’s surroundings at a much deeper level, which adds to one’s spiritual health. Yoga teaches to focus on breathing while you hold the poses. Even children can benefit from yoga.

I would like to conclude by saying that though yoga is a slow and steady process, its results, last for a long time. Besides working on body, mind and soul, regular practice of Yoga cures many ailments without any side effects.

Yoga has been used to help heal victims of torture or various forms of trauma. Since, yoga is a form of meditation, it results in a sense of inner peace and purpose, which has far-reaching health benefits.

Good Morning everybody, I am Shivam/ Shabnam, a student of class XII of your school. It is a great opportunity for me to share my views on the topic ‘Impact of Yoga in our life’ in today’s assembly.

Yoga is not merely a physical exercise which includes stretching, breathing or twisting the body in different ways, but it results into a healthy development of mind, body and soul. Today’s sedentary lifestyle has invited many diseases where man has limited time to spare for his health. It is also important for good concentration and peace of mind. With regular practice of yoga, we tend to become more sensitive to the kind of food our body asks. With the genuine effort made by our honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, it is celebrated every year on 21st June. Not only Indians but the whole world has accepted the power of yoga. A few minutes of yoga helps to get relief from stress. It helps detox the body and de-stress the mind. Yoga is the best way to calm a disturbed mind and increase the level of well-being in a person. On the other hand, yoga postures massage organs and strengthen muscles; breathing techniques and meditation release stress and improve immune system. Yoga and meditation work on keeping the mind happy and peaceful. When we feel drained out of energy, a few minutes of yoga can provide the freshness and energy back to our body. It also helps in improving body postures. Today, students face many problems due to the burden of studies and feel depressed but yoga acts as the stress buster for them. In many schools yoga is practiced on the daily basis as a part of curriculum. Hence, we too should add yoga to our daily routines for a healthy life.

Good morning, everyone! Today, I am going to expatiate on the benefits of regular practice of yoga.

Yoga is the most miscomprehended and misunderstood concept only in India but also throughout the world. The word ‘yoga’ conjures up the images of ascetics, or yoga gurus doing arduous physical postures or asanas! Only blending, stretching, moving, etc. of various body parts in an association of certain breathing exercises is not the totality of yoga.

The literal meaning of yoga according to the Vedas is ‘union.’ The reward of this union with the universe is the unfolding and blossoming of our potential to its fullest and optimal level. In the state of perfect yoga, one receives abundant cosmic energy, which heals, energizes, and rejuvenates each cell, nerve, and organ of the physical, mental, and spiritual body of a man. It cleanses the body of all ills and toxins that might develop into fatal ailments.

Yoga has become quite popular in the entire world, especially in western countries because of its wholesomeness. We must practice it for a healthy, happy, fulfilling life.

1. Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow:

1. While there is no denying that the world loves a winner, it is important that you recognize the signs of stress in your behaviour and be healthy enough to enjoy your success. Stress can strike any time, in a fashion that may leave you unaware of its presence in your life. While a certain amount of pressure is necessary for performance, it is important to be able to recognize your individual limit. For instance, there are some individuals who accept competition in a healthy fashion. There are others who collapse into weeping wrecks before an exam or on comparing mar-sheets and find that their friend has scored better.

2. Stress is a body reaction to any demands or changes in its internal and external environment. Whenever there is a change in external environments such as temperature, pollutants, humidity and working conditions, it leads to stress. In these days of competition when a person makes up his mind to surpass what has been achieved by others, leading to an imbalance between demands and resources, it causes psycho-social stress. It is a part and parcel of everyday life.

3. Stress had a different meaning, depending on the state of life you are in. The loss of a toy or a reprimand from the parents might create a stress shock in a child. An adolescent who fails an examination may feel as if everything has been lost and life has no further meaning. In an adult, the loss of his or her companion, hob or professional failure may appear as if there is nothing more to be achieved.

4. Such signs appear in the attitude and behavior of the individual, as muscle tension in various parts of the body, palpitation and high blood pressure, indigestion and hyper-acidity. Ultimately the result is self- destructive behavior such a s eating and drinking too much, smoking excessively, relying on tranquillizers. There are other signs of s tress such as trembling, shaking, nervous blinking, dryness of throat and mouth and difficulty in swallowing.

5.The professional under stress behaves as if he is a perfectionist. It leads to depression, lethargy and weakness. Periodic mood shifts also indicate the stress status of the students, executives and professionals.

6. In a study sponsored by World Health Organisation and carried out by Harvard School of Public Health, the global burden of diseases and injury indicated that stress diseases and accidents are going to be the major killers in 2020.

7.The heart disease and depression – both stress diseases – are going to rank first and second in 2020. Road traffic accidents are going to be the third largest killers. These accidents are also an indicator of psycho-social stress in a fast –moving society. Other stress diseases like ulcers, hypertension and sleeplessness have assumed epidemic proportion in modern societies.

8.A person under stress reacts in different easy and the common one's ar3e flight, fight and flee depending upon the nature of the stress and capabilities of the person. The three responses can be elegantly chosen to cope with the stress s so that stress does not damage the system and become distressed.

9.When a stress crosses the limit, peculiar to an individual, it lowers his performance capacity. Frequent crossings of the limit may result in chronic fatigue in which a person feels lethargic, disinterested and is not easily motivated to achieve anything. This may make the person mentally undecided, confused and accident prone as well. Sudden exposure to un-nerving stress may also result in a loss of memory. Diet, massage, food supplements, herbal medicines, hobbies, relaxation techniques and dance movements are excellent stress busters.

(a) (i) What is stress? What factors lead to stress?

(ii) What rare the signs by which a person can know that he is under stress?

(iii) What area the different diseases a person gets due to stress?

(iv) Give any two example of stress busters.

(v) How does a person react under stress?

(b) Which words in the above passage mean the same as the following?

(ii) rebuke (para-3)

(iii) inactive (Para 9)

Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow:

Research has shown that the human mind can process words at the rate of about 500 per minute, whereas a speaker speaks at the rate of about 150 words a minute. The difference between the two at 350 is quite large.

So a speaker must make every effort to retain the attention of the audience and the listener should als0 be careful not to let his mind wander. Good communication calls for good l listening skills. A good speaker must necessarily be a good listener.

Listening starts with hearing but goes beyond. Hearing, in other words is necessary, but is not a sufficient condition for listening. Listening involves hearing with attention. Listening is a process that calls of concentration. While listening, one should also be observant. In other words, listening has to do with the ears, as well as with the eyes and the mind. Listening is to be understood as the total process that involves hearing with attention, being observant and making interpretations. Good communication is essentially an interactive process. It calls for participation and involvement. It is quite often a dialogue rather that a monologue. It is necessary to be interested and also show or make it abundantly clear that one is interested in knowing what the other person has to say.

Good listening is an art that can be cultivated. It relates to skills that can be developed. A good listener knows that art of getting much more than what the speaker is trying to convey. He knows how to prompt, persuade but not to cut off or interrupt what the other person has to say. At times the speaker may or may not be coherent, articulate and well-organized in his thoughts and expressions. He may have it in his mind and yet he may fail to marshal the right words while communicating his thought;. Nevertheless a good listener puts him at ease, helps him articulate and facilitates him to get across the message that he wants to convey.

For listening to effective, it is also necessary that barriers to listening are removed. Such barriers can be both physical and psychological. Physical barriers generally relate to hindrances to proper hearing whereas psychological barriers are more fundamental and relate to the interpretation and evaluation of the speaker and the message.

(a) On the basis of your reading of the above passage, make note in points only, using abbreviations wherever necessary. Supply a suitable title. (b) Write a summary of the above passage in about 80 words.

arrow-right

Yoga unites the body, mind and soul. When you are in harmony, the journey through life is calmer, happier and more fulfilling. Write a speech in 150-200 words to be delivered in the morning assembly on the topic ' Yoga- a way of life'. You are Karan/ Kajal, Head Boy /Head Girl of D.A.V. Public School, Delhi. OR 'Homes for the aged is a necessity in India '. Write a debate in 150- 200 words either for or against the motion. You are Shivam/Shivani.

Good Morning everyone. I’d like to thank Principal ma’am and our dear teachers for giving me this opportunity to express my views on the topic ‘Yoga-a way of life’. ‘Yoga’ comes from the Sanskrit word ‘yoga’ which itself means ‘doing something with concentration’. So basically, doing anything with concentration and complete dedication takes the form of yoga.

When yoga is equivalent to concentration, then it becomes clear as to how much it is necessary for us in our everyday lifestyle. Concentration is very much the seed of success. And if one doesn’t practice concentration then success will be a far-fetched fruit.

Yoga is hence a few exercises that help train our body and mind in a systematic way. It constantly teaches our body how to properly breathe in and breath out in a particular way so as to keep the heart and lungs healthy. A healthy body will definitely lead to a healthy and focused mind. And a focused mind will definitely make success a cakewalk. So let’s make yoga a continuous way of life.

‘Homes for the ages is a necessity in India’ – I stand for the notion. Rather these homes are not only necessary in India, they are a necessity all over the world. I say so because the aged members of our family are not only lonely but also deprived of attention. This happens mainly because the other members of the family are busy handling their jobs at the office.

With the growing global scenario, it has become very necessary for every family to invest energy and effort in jobs. The growing global economy is an alarm saying so. Being engaged in nine to five jobs all day long, leaves the elderly members alone back at home. Also, there is rarely any time or energy left to spend time separately with them after office hours.

All these problems have a permanent solution. The old Age homes. I don’t support the children who leave their parents behind for years at a stretch in the old age homes. I rather support the children who do not want to leave their parents alone at home during the day. Old age homes should rather be like school for children. In this way, our aged family members will be able to spend quality time with the people of their age and share their problems. A better society will be created.

Write a speech to deliver in morning assembly to the school on the topic need of discipline in student life.

Good morning respected principal, teachers and my dear student discipline plays a major role in everyone’s life. hence, it is very important to know the value of discipline and inculcate this right from the childhood. it also plays an important role in students life. hence, for the purpose of discussion about the importance of disciplie among students we have organized this assembly today. being a teacher in this school, its my responsibility to make realise the importance of discipline in their lives. therefore, before i start, i will be glad to explain what is discipline discipline is a controlled behaviour of a person who follows every rules and regulations no matter where the person is discipline is the first thing in students life which help him/her to the way of success. the main purpose of rules and regulations set up in the school is to explain them the imporatance of discipline in their lives. students must practice discipline right from childhood. parents play an important role in maintaining discipline in their child because a child spends most of the time at home. discipline is important not only for students but it is important in every person’s life.self discipline is very essential as it help us to rule and govern ourselves. this is very tough task among all. a school can be called as a good school only if there is a discipline. just imagine if a students do whatever they want in school then it will be very hard for the teachers to teach. many students miss their school without permission of their parents or teachers i have got numerous complaints from students who are not able to study in their class because of the disturbance created by their classmates. this happens due to the lack of discipline among students. to maintain discipline we need responsiblity of parents and government also. schools should maintain strict rules for proper behaviour among students.sometimes bad behaviour of child depends on familiy situation and personal problems. usually students cannot express their problems to anyone and thus they get frustrated.this lead them to cause a bad behaviour among them. teachers should take the responsibility to understand the bad behaviour among children and help them accordingly therefore, it is most essential to cultivate the habit of discipline right from the childhood to lead a successful life. time management is very importan and popular technique of discipline. it helps the person to be more careful while talking with other. this help the person to be decent and appropriate everytime. a disciplined individual will have a proper schedule of every work. he does his each work at a fixed time. all these help the person to maintain a good health and body fitness. discipline is a ladder towards success. it help us to keep our mind, body and soul under control on this note, i would like to conclude my speech and hope from now onwards everyone will strictly follow discipline in your lives thank you all and have a nice day.

7. Class 11 & 12 Speech Writing : ‘How to Protect Your Eyesight’

A recent health check-up in your school revealed that many among your classmates were suffering from weak eyesight. You feel concerned. Write a speech in 150-200 words to be delivered in the morning assembly on ‘How to Protect Your Eyesight’.

Ans.                                                     ‘How to Protect Your Eyesight’

Good morning everybody. Today I have got an opportunity to share my views on “Protecting your eyesight”. Eyes are the most precious gifts which humans possess. It lets us explore the world around us.

But during a recent health check-up, it was revealed that many students are suffering from weak eyesight.

The probable reasons could be the increase in the use of mobile phones, tablets, laptops, pa and TVs. Children spend a major part of their day using these electronic gadgets which harm their eyes badly. Mother reason could be that children eat junk food more than healthy food. They are reluctant to eat green vegetables which are actually beneficial for healthy eyesight.

So what can we do to protect our eyesight t and make our eyes more healthy and sharp? We should have in a balanced diet containing green leafy vegetables and eatables rich n vitamin A, C and E, Omega-3 add zinc. Use sunglasses of right kind that block UVA and UVB rays. Avoid staring at PCs, TVs, phones for long. Give rest to your eyes by looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds. While using these gadgets, get up and take a 15-minute break after every 2 hours. When you feel changes or weakness in your eyesight, consult an ophthalmologist and if some problem occurs, visit him frequently for check-ups. We just have to be more responsible and careful about our eyes.

 Thank you,

Write out a speech to be delivered in the morning assembly of your school on the topic 'How prayer enriches your mind and soul'. Sign yourself as Karan / Kiran.

Good morning all. this is kiran. as we know prayer is a solemn request to god or object of worship. it can be an entreaty to a person too. but when in difficulties we usually turn to god and ask for his help. we pray to him to guide us and solve our problems. if not instantly but may be slowly our confused mind becomes clear and gets the strength to think and steer out of our problems. the world’s foremost scientist alexix carrel said: “the most powerful form of energy one can generate is prayer. prayer, like radium is a luminous and self-generating form of energy.” this great scientist further states that the most powerful form of energy one can generate is not mechanical, electronic or even atomic energy, but prayer energy. we are told there are, generally speaking, three ways in which men get what they want and need: by work, by thought and by prayer. the first two are used daily whereas the third is used only in our need. may be because the first two are obvious factors of our everyday experience very common daily things whereas prayer is associated with special postures or even simple rituals. without prayer we are compelled to bear the entire weight and burden of life. through spiritual procedures we contact a tremendous source of strength, more than by working or by just thinking. to reiterate, the most powerful form of energy one can generate is prayer energy. we are advised that to be efficient in prayer we must learn the art of praying. even some efficiency and skills are required in the operation of all power. in mastering the art of prayer it is only necessary to follow certain simple principles. one does not have to attend any college or technical school to become an expert in this field. the main thing in learning to pray is just to pray. though we may read various books on prayer or even have discussions on prayer, the only way to learn to pray is to pray. according to mahatma gandhi “the meaning of prayer is that i want to evoke that divinity within me.” he further says: “prayer is not asking. it is longing of the soul. it is a daily admission of one’s weakness. it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.” true prayer is a way of life. prayers must be said continuously. again to quote alexis carrel: “when we pray we link ourselves with the exhaustible motive power that binds the universe.” we can pray anywhere; in the street, in the solitude of our room or place of worship. it is not compelling that we must visit a temple, mosque or a church to pray. our spare moments can be used in saying our prayers. for example while travelling to our workplace even if we get those fifteen minutes we can spend those precious moments by praying instead of chatting. even at home when relaxing after completing one’s housework or chores one can easily say in one’s mind slokas, hymns or psalms or read them if possible. it will without doubt give us strength, serenity and confidence. one of the primary laws of prayer is simplicity as told earlier. it should be simple and natural. it is not necessary to use the same phrases or stereotyped phrases or words. we must talk to god as though to a friend; it should be quite natural. tell him all your problems, anything that is on your mind freely. let it be in your own language without any formal words. god is a patient listener and will surely try to help you. as gandhiji said: “god is not a power residing in the clouds. god is an unseen power residing within us and nearer to us than fingernails to the flesh.” just plead to god. putting aside all our worries we must try to fix our mind on god. even while doing your work dedicate whatever you do to god. think that god is with you and helping you. this will remind us of his presence and nearness. we need not beseech god for his blessings but just assume that he is near us to protect and showering his blessings on us. there have been many saints who doing their duty slogging the whole day have not failed to remember god and have attained godhood. we have an excellent example from pierre curie’s, life (husband of marie curie). once when he was stooping over a microscope in the laboratory a student entered but thinking the scientist was praying was about to leave the room when the scientist called him..
