“Writing is rewriting,” the adage tells us. But how do we rewrite? How do we decide what to leave in and what to take out? How do we determine the scope of a piece, divine its essence, know where to start and where to end?

We are so often caught up in the daily routine that we forget to think about developing our playful, creative side. We remember about that only when life hits us with a burnout or quarter/middle age crisis and only then (maybe) we do something about it. But it shouldn’t be that way.

I believe that experimenting with our creativity should be something we do regularly, because it has so many benefits!

It can be something you always wanted to try but life stood in your way, or you might discover that the only way to relax is by doing something creative. Unleashing your creativity can help when you feel stuck in any area of your life, by giving your brain a break from the repetitive thoughts and helping it find new solutions.

Amsterdam is a place that brings out the creative side in people; I’ve seen it many times in myself and others around me. But what do you if you don’t speak Dutch yet, or not enough? Fear not, because Amsterdam, being the shiny expat bubble that it is, has the solution: a good selection of courses taught in English .

NOTE: this article was updated in February 2023

CREATIVE WRITING
  • International Writers’ Collective : four levels of creative writing (8 weeks per module), personal coaching and various workshops organised throughout the year. They also organise periodical write-together meetings (open for everyone, student or not) and meetings with writers. This is the place where I re-discovered my taste for writing fiction; I did three modules and I hope one day I’ll be able to go back and continue. The method they use is the right one for me and I enjoy very much the community created around this school. There is also a workshop in the Hague and an online class which can be followed from anywhere.
  • Amsterdam Writing Workshops : as the name says, they have a few creative writing workshops from September to June. They also try to create a community to support writers in their endeavours and a safe place for receiving writing feedback.
  • Amsterdam Writers: an 8 weeks workshop cycle for both advanced and beginners. They claim that their workshops and seminars “keep writers fit, healthy and strong through invigorating and stimulating exercises”.
  • CREA : offers two levels for creative writing, memoir writing and more. There’s a tricky thing about CREA — you have to wait until their students enrol and only then you know if there are any spaces left and if you can apply.

Writing classes

  • Atelier Molenpad : Intuitive Painting Center for adults, all levels welcome. The intuitive painting classes aim to help you tap into your subconscious mind with art, and help you when you’re stuck, generating new ideas and feelings. The programme can be bought in one package, each session has a theme, and the content has a progressive flow. Atelier Molenpad also organises art retreats.
  • Ateliers Westerdok: develop your creative skills and knowledge about art (drawing and painting). They had to close during the pandemic, but looks like they are coming back soon. The main language is Dutch but English speakers are accepted and the teachers will give explanations is English too.
  • Vondelpark Atelier : a small international art school. The courses start every two months and there are also workshops organised upon request. You can choose from painting, drawing and photography courses, as well as workshops for collage, illustration, watercolours.
  • MK24 : offers a variety of courses, from painting and sculpting to ceramics and multimedia. The language is mainly Dutch but some classes accept English speaking students as well (you’ll have to check with them). You pay by module or the whole year. This is where I took a Model Painting class this year, and I loved the experience!
  • Impression Studio : this is a small studio run by Charissa van de Kerkhoff who teaches all the classes. All levels, English and Dutch.
  • CREA  Amsterdam has a wide variety of classes, some of them being offered in English as well.
  • Vincent van Oss : two courses and a few workshops. Private lessons are a possibility too, and the particularity of this studio is the Male Nude course, every Thursday.
  • Station West INT : they have a couple of drawing workshops taught in English, that look very cool. I particularly love the Visual Journalling one.

Painting

PHOTOGRAPHY AND AUDIOVISUAL
  • SAE Institute : OK, this is more than “feeding a hobby” kind of thing. If you want to go very serious about it, you can enrol to one of the study programmes at SAE, which offers a comprehensive course portfolio in creative media fields (audio, film, animation, games development, music business, and web). They organise open-days from time to time, when you can get a taste of what the institute has to offer.
  • The FOTOfactory : this International Institute of Photography is the most prestigious private educational Institute in the Netherlands, with students from all over the world. They have a three years programme but also summer courses and workshops.
  • Vondelpark Atelier : crash course, basic and advanced photography courses plus a few workshops like street photography, photoshop. There’s also an animation course and film making workshops.
  • Amsterdam Photo Club : there’s a big community created around this club, and, apart from the usual courses and workshops, you can register for photowalks and other events such as portfolio reviews.
  • Megan Alter : basic and advanced courses, workshops on street or natural light photography and even private photo lessons.
  • Photography Courses Amsterdam : basic, intermediate and advanced courses, also private lessons.
  • Foam : the Photography Museum periodically organises workshops and some of them are in English.
ACTING AND IMPROV
  • The Mulholland Acting and Film Academy : offers short and long-term classes, combining European and American techniques (Strasberg and Meisner, Scene study etc). Beginner and advanced acting programs are available.
  • Theodora Voutsa : acting classes based on the Los Angeles method — a combination of acting and personal development techniques. There are a few levels, from beginner to “transformational masterclass”. Theodora created also a few online courses, like “How to be a Successful Storyteller” and “Habits”.
  • Boom Chicago Academy – the training branch of the well known Boom Chicago venue offers long-form improvisation classes (six levels), pitch trainings, presentation courses, and InterActing, a program for young people with autism. For business groups they offer creativity worksops and team building activities.
  • Easy Laugh : this international improvised comedy group offers improvisation and stand-up comedy classes, as well as occasional various workshops.
  • Act Attack – a new English speaking theatre group providing acting classes for everyone interested. You will be part of a happy and dynamic multicultural club, developing your skills and having fun. You won’t receive a professional acting diploma at the end, but you’ll get to perform in their shows.
  • Art Ceramics Studio : all levels ceramics courses, Raku and mold making, as well as workshops like “Pottery painting”. A nice feature is that you can join the course at any time, as long as there are still places available.
  • Studio Pansa : is an open access clay and ceramics workspace, providing all the necessary facilities for their members to work freely. If you already know your ceramics, you can get a membership, but if you’re a beginner, try one of their courses first.
  • Patty Schilder : sculptural ceramic classes for all levels. The course can be joined at any time. Patty also offers a few interesting workshops, like “Raku firing”, “Ceramics and wine tasting” or “Totem team building”.
  • Pansy : ceramic painting workshops in their cosy shop. You can choose from from a selection of cups, vases, trinket boxes and plates and you’ll be guided on how to transform the object into a pretty one.

Honoursmodule: Creative Writing

writing course amsterdam

When engaged in scholarly research, we may forget that the act of writing can also be  imaginative, therapeutic, illusory, entertaining and inconclusive. We often separate our creative – and playful - selves from the productivity model of success.

In this course, however, we will foreground creative writing as both a discipline and an art form in order to ‘decompartmentalise’ our thinking. Students will engage with both the theory and practice of writing creatively, through 1) formal instruction 2) generating their own original pieces, and 3) participation in group ‘workshop’ analysis.

Students will read assigned texts on creative thought and process, craft and revision; they will subsequently write their own stories, poems and essays that engage in a rewarding conversation with other literature, past or present. In a workshop setting, students will share their work and produce cogent written and/or oral arguments to defend and explain their opinion on others’ writing.

As a group, students will find a shared language to communicate feedback that is observation-based, productive and supportive.

Individually, they will learn about the revision process through working on a multi-genre portfolio. They will also draft and edit a final project (fiction, non-fiction or poetry).

Students will have an opportunity to direct in-class activity by devising a writing exercise for their peers; finally, they will read their own literary works in a public forum.

We now expect that all lectures can take place  on-campus . In case the situation changes, you will be notified. You can find the timetable on  Datanose .

Registration

Registration is open for second-year or third-year Bachelor's students participating in an Honours programme. Between  30 November 10 am and 3 December 11 pm , you can register by completing the online registration form that will appear on Honoursmodules IIS . Placement is random and students will hear within two weeks for which course(s) they are registered.

Please note: There is no guarantee for placement if you register after December 3, so make sure you register on time.  For questions about registration, please contact us at  [email protected] .

Advanced Academic Writing | On-campus course | Full

writing course amsterdam

The Advanced Academic Writing course is designed for PhD students who write their dissertation in English. The course addresses different aspects of the writing process, such as becoming aware of disciplinary requirements, improving text coherence, writing effective sentences, using punctuation effectively, using varied vocabulary and improving the overall style of writing.

Course description

N.B. You should participate in this course about 6 months into your PhD project or longer, preferably when you are writing the pilot study.

The course focuses on writing effective, well-structured and coherent academic texts in English. It introduces strategies to improve the overall writing process, such as planning, outlining and becoming aware of disciplinary requirements. Other important course themes include writing effective and varied sentences, using punctuation marks effectively, improving text coherence and working with different techniques to improve the overall style of the text. Because the course participants typically use English as a second language (ESL), the course also pays attention to certain language issues that might arise at the level of vocabulary, sentence structure, punctuation and grammar. Throughout the course, the participants will work towards laying the foundation of one of the chapters of their dissertation (or an academic article/pilot study) and will write a considerable part of this text. They will receive detailed and extensive feedback on their writing from the course instructor, who will also use the participants’ texts as a basis for the course material.

writing course amsterdam

Room 2.14 Spuistraat 134 1012 VB Amsterdam

Course details

Attendance & assignments.

To be able to complete the course successfully, the participants have to attend all classes. They should also submit at least two writing samples for feedback (1000-1200 words & 2500 words).

Important information about the course

Native speaker of English?

Although this is very much a writing course and most classes focus on different aspects of the writing process, improving style, different writing practices and so on, many participants write in English as a second language, so certain themes or questions that are particularly relevant for non-native speakers of English are also addressed. If English is your native language, then a quick Zoom intake meeting can be scheduled to discuss whether you would like to attend all classes or perhaps only a selection. Please note that the group does usually consist of a mix of native and non-native speakers and that, on the whole, the native speakers typically do attend all/most classes.

Have you started with the writing process?

Because this is a writing course, it is strongly recommend that you join the course once you've actually started with the writing process (chapter, article, pilot study). If you've just started with your PhD project, it might be better to join the course a bit later (this course is offered once in the fall semester and twice in the spring semester). Throughout the course you can submit various writing samples for feedback and participants find the combination of the group sessions and individual feedback particularly valuable.

The course will be taught by Lotte Tavecchio. Lotte holds a PhD in English Linguistics and has a special interest in sentence structure, punctuation, matters of style and contrastive linguistics. She works as a lecturer at Amsterdam University College (AUC) and is the owner of b-eloquent ( www.b-eloquent.nl ).

  • Week 1: Introduction to course themes / overview of common mistakes & focus areas
  • Week 2: Strategies to improve the writing process and exploring disciplinary requirements
  • Week 3: Vocabulary: what do you need to know about words to use words effectively and to expand your vocabulary?
  • Week 4: Writing effective sentences: varying your sentence structure
  • Week 5: Effective and varied use of punctuation marks in complex sentences
  • Week 6: Elements of stylishness: improving your style of writing
  • Week 7: Text structure: improving text coherence
  • Week 8: Course conclusion & room for extra theme suggested by participants (e.g. writing abstracts, designing poster presentations, etc.)

Level I Amsterdam Tuesday – Spring 2022

Instructors.

Profile Photo

Inge Lamboo

This Level I creative writing course meets for 8 weeks from 19 April – 14 June with a hiatus on 3 May. The course meets Tuesdays from 18:30 – 20:30 at Boekhandel van Rossum, Beethovenstraat 32, 1077 JH Amsterdam. Class size is 6-9 people.

Please see our page on the measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 that we are putting into place and associated requirements for participation in this course. If you are unvaccinated or you or any members of your household are in a higher risk category, we recommend one of our online courses instead.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

A Level I course is a great place to start whether you’re just getting going or you’ve been writing for a while and would like more formal instruction. The focus is on giving you mastery over techniques fundamental to both fiction and poetry, supporting you in establishing a writing routine, and encouraging you to try new things and stretch your imagination.

During the 8 weeks you’ll learn how to:

  • Read like a writer, so you can see how your favourite authors and poets work their magic—it’s a skill that will serve you well throughout your writing life.
  • Construct a compelling narrator to tell your story.
  • Use elements of craft such as tone, mood, description and action to reveal your characters and pull readers in and make them want more.
  • Give your fellow writers useful feedback.
  • Revise your own work—as any professional writer will tell you, writing well is all about revising well.

Plus you can look forward to a weekly dose of inspiration and to meeting great people.

HOW IT WORKS

Each week we’ll unpack the foundational techniques in an example from a story, novel or poem. It’s your choice whether you would like to focus on prose or poetry. You’ll be given an exercise based on the example designed to help you master the techniques and tap into your imagination. You’ll need to upload your work to our online platform the day before the next class, in which it will be discussed.

You will need access to a printer or device (phone, tablet, laptop) that will allow you to read your fellow student’s work during class. There are no special textbooks required.

The Level I curriculum is designed to give you a toolkit of techniques foundational to good writing over the course of two to four terms, depending on your goals, focus and experience. We currently teach four core levels of courses—each level (usually completed over multiple consecutive terms) builds on the skills and techniques taught in the level before, and at the end of every term your instructor will help you decide on the best path forward.

HERE’S WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

“The workshops really encouraged me to write – something I’ve been talking about for years but never had the time or confidence to pursue. I’ve absolutely loved it and plan to continue with it, I really think if I am going to make a go of writing these workshops will be what helps me to do that.” – Jo Matthews

“If you like reading you should absolutely take a workshop. They are insightful into the craft of writing and hugely stimulating. It changed my life in so many good ways…” – Claudia Calori

“I have been writing since I was seven years old. In a very real way it is my oldest companion, yet though I have tried at different periods of my life, I’ve never managed to give it a steady and credible role in my daily life and for the last decade or more I simply did not write. Creative Writing Defined

Creative writing is an artistic expression of an individual, drawn on an original imagination to effectively communicate the meaning through the use of words and drama. It conveys an author’s exclusive expression, writing form, opinions, and ideas in an appealing and imaginative manner. Creative writing is in contrast to methodical, practical, or realistic forms of writing.

Creative writing is considered a form of art that is extremely versatile. Poetry, fiction, short stories, novels, personal essays, scripts, screenplays, and songwriting are many forms that fall under the purview of creative writing. Formal types of writing forms such as business writing, academic writing, technical writing, and journalistic writing fall outside the realm of creative writing.

While it comes naturally to some, many individuals acquire creative writing skills through constantly nurturing and cultivating habits of systematic expression of their independent ideas and imaginations on paper. Through persistent training, guidance, and feedback from experienced writers and peers, creative writers are able to showcase new perspectives which is usually an enhanced piece of writing, more engaging and appealing to a wider audience.

To develop or bring out such skills one needs to seek expert guidance in the creative writing field. This article provides some important information on some top institutes providing creative writing courses in Amsterdam. Now let us take a look at the benefits of doing such a course.

The Benefits of Doing a Creative Writing Course

History has witnessed many gifted painters who were never taught a thing about painting, they were born with such innate instincts. But such examples are few and most painters learn this art from experienced painters well conversant with various forms and techniques.

Similarly, creative writing is also a form of art and with guidance, one can be familiarized with various techniques and forms of writing which will not only help better understand the subject but also gain confidence to showcase their work. Some of the benefits are explained below:

1. Enhance Imagination

Creative writing entails you to create new imaginary places, characters, and situations for your creative piece which boosts your imagination power further. Your brain is constantly encouraged to think out of the box which results in the discovery of new ideas and alternative solutions to problems and look at issues from different perspectives. Your thinking is likely to become more innovative and you shall be able to push limits to solve various complications.

2. Develop Empathy

Creative writing requires you to constantly create new characters in your writing, these characters have different personalities, sentiments, and opinions that are different from yours. This characterization helps you develop your empathic skills and gain an understanding of others’ points of view who do not experience life as you do.

Empathy is an important trait to have in life, it helps you to understand and sympathize with your colleagues/classmates’ difficulties and will enable you to help them feel valued and supported in overcoming their problems. You will be building a more mutually beneficial environment which will eventually lead to improved relationships and success in your and your associates’ targets.

3. Improved Thought Clarification

Structure development within creative writing enables you to think clearly and categorize your thoughts and emotions into a rationally consistent process. This clarity in thoughts will ensure that you look at all the happenings around you and in your life with more clarity, as you are able to define clear routes to deal with various issues in the future.

4. Broader Vocabulary

Creative writing facilitates the increase in your vocabulary power as you keep on exploring new ways to express yourself. Over a period of time, as you develop your writing skills, you will automatically discover the progress in your usage and variety in language, which will surely be a priceless asset in any occupation and in real-life social circumstances.

5. Critical Review

Most creative writing courses in Amsterdam involve peer-to-peer reviews. Your writing work is reviewed by others and vice versa. Thus you will both learn how to critically assess someone’s work and receive critical reviews from others. Hence, this ability to listen to feedback from others and application of constructive criticism is a significant trait that will immensely benefit you in various walks of life.

Different Forms of Creative Writing

Writing can come in any form and size, but for a writing work to be considered as creative  writing, it must be based on original imagination, ideas, and emotion. Words offer us countless possibilities for expressing and narrating our stories. Our focus may be on what is the reason for loving someone, what attracts us to a musical piece, or why some things happen the way they do.

We mostly choose a direct approach to tell our story with a specific theme, a straightforward narrative style, and with some amount of dramatization. However, it is very important to evaluate if our thoughts or ideas are being told in the right form of writing. If we use the right medium to express our imagination, it will most likely have the strongest impact.

Most authors write straightforwardly and directly from the heart, they simply find this encouraging that their writing does not have to follow one style. But then the various types and forms of writing always leave some doubt in their minds.

That’s why choosing the perfect form to write down your imagination is as essential as the writing piece itself. Let us quickly see the most popular forms of creative writing to select from in creative writing. These forms are short stories, journal diaries, children’s books, graphic novels, plays, memoirs, essays, lyrics, scripts, fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, novels, and speeches.

Fiction Writing

This is a form of writing where the writer brings out original stories with their collective and creative imagination. Writing fiction stories can be an incredible and exciting journey for writers. In fiction writing, writers can take the liberty of their choice to bring out gems of beautiful, creative, and interesting pieces of writing. This type of writing can be either unreal or loosely based on some real events.  It encompasses plot creation, narrations, character development, storytelling, etc.

It Can Be Further Differentiated Into Different Types Like:

Historical fiction:.

Historical fiction is set in the old times. While writing historical fiction, the writer can take liberty with historical events and present alternative possible events or the entire fabricated story that has no link with actual history. A historical fiction story usually portrays mannerisms, social behavior, eating habits, lifestyle, etc. related to the period in which the premise is set. This required in-depth research of the cultural, social, and political influences of that era and their relevance.

The historical fiction type has gained a lot of ground in the recent past, and many writers have been writing in this type. The already available written history as source material and intriguing alternate possibilities of the past fascinates readers and writers alike. That is why this has turned out to be one of the most popular types of fiction writing.

Mystery Fiction:

Mystery fiction can be stories based on the unrevealed core of the entire plot that is revealed systematically by the end of the story. Usually, these are crime or thriller stories that are written with the aim of entertaining readers. A well-written mystery fiction keeps its readers captivated and makes them long for more. Writing mystery fiction involves creative ideas and great effort in execution.

Sometimes it is loosely based on events in the past with the majority of events being fabricated by the writer. The nature of this writing is mysterious and it keeps its readers captivated by the story. Mystery fiction has a central character with a detective capability and ultimately reveals the mystery by the end of the story. The entire story revolves around the mystery event with various characters involved in it. This type is one of the most popular in fiction writing, numerous best-selling novels are from the Mystery fiction type,

Science Fiction:

Science fiction is one of the most exciting, adventurous, and fascinating types of fiction writing. It brings out ideas anywhere from far galaxies to underwater creatures or anything we can imagine in our wildest dream. Its unpredictable nature makes it exciting and engaging for readers. Science fiction has all the imaginary elements that can portray stories based on time travel, future travel, space travel, unknown scientific and technological advances, etc.

Literary Fiction:

It is a story with a character-driven theme in the background. The entire story belongs to the well-drafted characters. Unlike usual stories, it is not driven as per plot. This kind of writing doesn’t fit properly in any identified type. It doesn’t have a particular formula that it follows. Literary fiction stories follow unknown waters that can make for exciting and unnerving stories for readers.

It can begin with a simple generic theme, and the moment you think it’s simple and predictable, the entire story will turn on its head. Literary fiction challenges generally accepted ideas like good vs. bad and happy endings and it can bring the most unexpected results for its readers.

Literary fiction stories can take their readers anywhere and bring out the most unexpected outcomes. This makes readers more anxious and excited. Writers have the freedom to experiment and bring out the most unexpected and out-of-the-box events in the stories and ultimately make for extraordinary stories for the readers.

Children’s Fiction:

As the name suggests, children’s fiction is written for children. Writing children’s fiction is very important as it helps set seeds of good morals, reality, and fairness in children’s minds. Simultaneously with all the good learnings for children, it also entertains them and draws them to reading and literature.

This writing has a huge impact on the reader and often these stories are carried from childhood a long way almost forever. This type of writing is very close to its readers’ hearts as it can stay and leave an everlasting impact on the children for a very long time.

Fan Fiction:

Fan fiction is an extension of existing original stories. These are often written by fans of original content. A fan fiction work can range from a paragraph to a full-fledged book. Fan fiction has gained a lot of ground after the advent of the internet. People got a platform for expressing their imagination based on the existing platform. It has also given a lot of material to read and enjoy for the fan of original readers.

Fan fiction authors use already available and copyrighted characters and intellectual properties. This work can have a positive, neutral, or negative approach from the original content creators. Often fan fiction authors have to face legal action from the intellectual property owners. These possible copyright infringements limit the financial viability of fan fiction authors.

Fan fiction gives a different perspective than the original plot of the story. It can be a treat for the other fans to read similar characters or premises with some minute to drastic changes. With the advent of the world wide web, fan fiction has gained a lot of ground. It enables readers and writers to think and answer questions beginning with “What if…?”.

Writing poetry is a creative process and a form of creative writing. It takes a lot of skill, hard work, and command of the language to write good poems. Poetry may or may not follow structure or rules. A good understanding of words and optimal application of thesaurus to find the right words are essential for writing good poetry.

The writer can also employ multiple literary devices like metaphors, allegories, metonyms and in the form of anecdotes to write better poetry. Poetry can be used for storytelling, expressing ideas, giving messages figuratively, etc.  A writer can choose to decide either to write in free verse form that is free from any rules or villanella which has a few rules and constraints to be followed.

Multiple forms of poetry vary based on rhyme-unrhyme, the number of lines used, the subject matter discussed, and more. These forms and considerations make poems unique from others and can help to distinguish them.

Non-Fiction

Creative non-fiction is a real story but expressed in creative writing form to its readers. This makes for entertaining, easy to remember, and effective storytelling of a series of events. To bring this into action, writers use creative literary crafts, techniques, and literary devices to bring out vivid, compelling, refreshing, and dramatic stories. These stories find relevant and entertaining at the same time to their readers.

Creativity is considered to be something that’s fabricated by the writer and created for entertainment consumption but that’s a very skewed way to look at it. A writer can produce creative, straightforward, honest, and genuine content at the same time. Creative writing is not just about exaggeration, prevention, fabrication, invention, or embellishment of events.

Writing a biography needs a lot of research about the subject. Usually, it’s written on or by popular and celebrated personalities and their struggle to succeed. The majority of such personalities have their lives available in the public domain, this makes it even more difficult for the writer to bring out unknown facts, stories, and events of their lives.

Writing a biography can have multiple objectives. It could be to spread the story of the subject or to correct the public image by telling their version, it can also serve as an inspiring, motivating, and learning experience for the readers. A biography can either be in the form of a memoir, autobiography, or biography. Memoirs are about a particular event that takes place in one’s life and their detailed implication on other factors, events, and people concerning it.

Along similar lines, an autobiography is written on the series of events taking place in the writer’s life and how these have brought the life of the writer to the current scenario. Here subject and writer are the same, whereas, in the case of biography, writer and subject are different. To write a biography, the writer has to carry out in-depth research, a series of interviews, and the impact brought by the subject.

Creative essay writing is information presented in a narrative form to its readers. It helps the writers to summarise analyze and exhibit knowledge about the subject to the readers in a creative but precise way. A creative essay goes beyond the realm of rules, regulations, and structures. It tells the story to the readers compellingly and interestingly which helps them to stay fascinated and attached to the subject.

Writers can take liberty in expressing their thoughts with a variety of tones, premises, language, words, etc. which is suitable for the context they want to present to the readers. It also helps to develop a different perspective in the readers’ minds about the subject.

Before writing a speech, the writer should have a detailed understanding of listeners. While addressing the subjects, one needs to have a good grasp of the subject matter supported by good in-depth research in the intended direction. All this can help to create a compelling, gripping, and effective speech for listeners. The usage of poems, prose, and anecdotes is pretty much common in speech writing, it also makes up for the entertainment part for the listeners and keeps them interested in the orator’s speech.
