4 easy ways to create a WordCloud for PowerPoint
02.09.22 • #powerpoint #wordcloud #tip.
“A picture is worth a thousand words” and especially for PowerPoint slides, this is a well- known rule, used by most presenters nowadays. If you want to have an extraordinary presentation that stands out between the regular PPT slides, a PowerPoint word cloud is the solution. Just think about the impact that graphics and words together as PowerPoint word cloud can have!
A word cloud in PowerPoint grabs the attention of your audience and makes them curious about each word that is hidden in the graphic. Particularly important words can be bold, colourful and bigger than other words, to transport the information of the topic in an intelligent way and ensure your listeners full attention.
Creating a word cloud for your presentation can be a difficult and tiring exercise if you have to adjust each word manually to its place.
Therefore, here are 4 free, easy, and quick ways and websites to create your own word cloud either online or in PowerPoint itself:
- Word Cloud Generator – website to quickly create a word cloud and download it
- Word Art – website that offers various modifications such as colours, shape, size,…
- Pro Word Cloud – PowerPoint Add- In to generate the Word Cloud in PPT
SlideLizard LIVE - Interactive brainstorming with participants
Word cloud generator – put in word crowd, get out word cloud.
The website Word Cloud Generator creates your word cloud out of an input text within some clicks.
- Paste your text into the given text box. (you can adjust the size of the box by clicking and pulling the grey, right, lower corner of the box)
- Adjust the options to your preferences, such as the number of generated words, scale, or the orientation.
- Download the finished image by clicking the download button.
Note: The website downloads images only as SVG file (scalable vector graphics)!
To use it as PowerPoint word cloud, you can either copy and paste it to your PowerPoint presentation or save it separately as PNG- file. If you want to have a png- format, open the downloaded SVG-image, (normally it gets opened in your browser) right click it and save it as .png, as it is shown in the picture.
Now you can easily add it as every normal image to your PowerPoint presentation by drag and drop or copying and pasting the picture.
Word Art – start easy and smart, your own word cloud heart
If you want to be more creative and adapt colours, fonts and arrange the words in a specific shape, Word Art is the website to go.
- To include the words for your text graphic you can either put in each single word , import content by including the link of any website , or write the input passages into the given box. Here you can also tick or tick off some modifications such as removing numbers or common words from your future PowerPoint word cloud.
- Choose a shape for your word cloud PPT and adjust it exactly to your needs. By clicking on the red “visualize” button you can see the first impression of your creation.
- If you want to have specific colours, click on the “STYLE” option and change “Words colors” from Shape to Custom. Then click on the colour buttons and customize your own ones. Do not like the colour? Click on it and it disappears.
- It is time to get creative and play around with all the different options Word Art offers. If you want to edit your image later again, Word Art also offers the possibility to save the image by signing up with an E-Mail account.
- To download your finished word cloud simply click on the download menu and choose the format you want to use. Standard JPEG and PNG are free to use and easy formats to import to your PowerPoint slides later.
Pro Word Cloud – A PowerPoint Add- In that makes a word cloud to begin
PowerPoint also offers a way to create your word cloud in the program itself, by installing an Add- In. This way you do not need to save and add the word cloud separately to PowerPoint. This is how you use the PowerPoint Add-In:
- Go to the Insert > Add- ins menu bar.
- Click on My Add- ins > See All…
- A new menu pops up, choose Store . No worries, the Add-In is completely free.
- Search for “Pro Word Cloud” and click onto the Add button.
- After accepting the conditions and license, the menu closes by itself and PowerPoint opens a new toolbox for the creation of PowerPoint word clouds.
- Now you can adjust the preferences the way you want it to be. If everything is ready, select some text and click the blue Create Word Cloud button.
- The generated word cloud can be re- generated by PowerPoint until you are content with the word cloud. By clicking the right button Save to Gallery , you can save the word cloud either in your gallery or the PowerPoint Cloud. (we recommend choosing the first option since the Cloud is open to everyone).
- If you want to use the word cloud for your PowerPoint slides, just click on the generated image and drag and drop it to a new PPT slide. The image will get copied and voilà the word cloud PowerPoint is ready!
With SlideLizard LIVE you can ask open questions to your participants and visualize the results in a word cloud. The word cloud is displayed immediately in the presentation and there is no need to insert an image. SlideLizard LIVE is therefore perfect for brainstorming sessions where all participants can bring their ideas into the presentation. The word cloud function is also a good option for surveys, where it is not possible to predefine all the answers, to get as many different answers as possible.

The final repudiation of ‘2000 Mules’
Since Donald Trump left office in January 2021, there has been no more influential presentation of his theory that the election was stolen than the film “2000 Mules,” created by activist — and Trump pardon recipient — Dinesh D’Souza.
D’Souza’s movie was a masterpiece of meeting market demand. There was a nationwide scramble by red-hat-wearing enthusiasts to prove that Joe Biden cheated his way into the White House, a rush for evidence that made mini-celebrities of people like MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. And into this bedlam strode D’Souza. He held in his hand data cobbled together by a right-wing activist group called True the Vote that he claimed showed thousands of people collecting and submitting fraudulent ballots in swing states.
It was exactly what Trumpworld was looking for. It was exactly what Trump was looking for. When he was asked in May if he was ready to admit that he had lost the election, the first words out of his mouth centered on the film’s claims.
“If you look at True the Vote,” he said, “they found millions of votes on camera, on government cameras, where they were stuffing ballot boxes.”
Sign up for How To Read This Chart, a weekly data newsletter from Philip Bump
The only problem, of course, was that it was all nonsense. It was immediately apparent nonsense , certainly, and not only because a national ring of thousands of people would have had to somehow go undetected, but because — even after the movie came out — the alleged caper yielded no arrests. It was also obviously nonsense because True the Vote’s data couldn’t do what the group claimed it did.
Back in 2021, True the Vote contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) about its allegations. Specifically, the purported vote-monitoring organization claimed to have cellphone geolocation evidence showing that hundreds of people had traveled to multiple ballot drop boxes on given days. This, the Texas-based group insisted, proved that there was an operation focused on depositing ballots in those drop boxes, something that it claimed was bolstered by a whistleblower who admitted to being part of this operation.
By September 2021, the GBI had rejected the claim, in part because True the Vote had declined to put investigators in contact with the alleged whistleblower. That notwithstanding, the data collected by True the Vote — using not GPS data but less-precise cell-tower positioning — showed nothing more than people traveling within 100 feet of drop box locations. (You can see examples of True the Vote maps created from Wisconsin data; there is no obvious targeting of any drop box site displayed.) The GBI declared the accusation “curious,” but took it no further.
It didn’t end there, however. Georgia officials, who had been under relentless attack in the wake of the 2020 election, demanded that True the Vote turn over whatever evidence or information about informants it had, eventually obtaining a court order for the group to do so. This week, the group’s attorneys responded: There was no such evidence to share .
This is not the first time that True the Vote has been caught flat-footed. Officials in Arizona recommended that the group be investigated by the FBI and IRS (given its tax-exempt status) for failing to provide evidence it claimed to have about ballot-stuffing in that state. True the Vote itself promised for months that it would release its data publicly to validate the claims made in “2000 Mules.” It never did .
Again, this is not surprising. The film features True the Vote founder Catherine Engelbrecht and investigator Gregg Phillips prominently and repeatedly, allowing them to allege that they had uncovered this network of ballot harvesters. But Phillips had already burned his credibility on vote-fraud allegations after the 2016 election, when he claimed to have found millions of illegal ballots. (Trump elevated this claim, too.) No such evidence was ever presented, obviously.
D’Souza’s argument depends entirely on True the Vote’s data, as he explained when we spoke in 2022. Much of it was immediately disproved, like the scene in the film where Phillips and Engelbrecht intimate that they had used cellphone location data to solve a murder that, it turns out, had already been solved . The movie relies heavily on video taped at ballot boxes, with Phillips and Engelbrecht providing voice-over commentary to suggest that something shady is going on. But at no point do they show a person at a ballot box matched to geolocation data, the purported evidence on which their allegations rest. In fact, only one map of an alleged ballot harvester’s path is shown in the film. In an email to The Washington Post, Phillips admitted that it was artificial.
In my conversation with D’Souza, I asked him about a scene in which the True the Vote team alleges that someone depositing a ballot in a drop box is taking a photo because it was demanded by his criminal handlers.
“We have this assertion being made by Gregg Phillips about what is happening with this picture being taken,” I noted . “You are saying — and, actually, you haven’t actually said yet — that this came from the whistleblower. Did the whistleblower say that they were paid only if they took photos of the ballots?”
“No, I don’t know that,” D’Souza replied. “I don’t know that because I haven’t talked to the whistleblower. The whistleblower spoke to True the Vote investigators. So I have to admit that my information from that comes from True the Vote and also from the Georgia reports, which I’ve read.”
This is the information that True the Vote now admits it doesn’t have.
There are numerous other flaws in the movie. There is one last point, though, that is worth highlighting.
I also asked D’Souza how he came up with the estimates of how many purportedly fraudulent ballots had been submitted. This is the crux of the film: At one point, D’Souza (as narrator) counts up enough illegally harvested ballots to have flipped several swing states. It delivers his audience exactly what they have come for, proof that the election was stolen. But with limited video surveillance, I asked, where did those numbers come from?
The “investigators could tell,” D’Souza assured me. “There actually is a way to know that, but it does require a pretty sophisticated ability to look more closely at video that is shown very broadly in the screen.”
Don’t hold your breath for True the Vote providing that evidence.
A previous version of this article misidentified the woman in the photo of a scene from "2000 Mules" as Catherine Engelbrecht. The woman in the photo is Deborah Fancher. The caption has been corrected.

Bubbles on the Beach
Ella Dershowitz declares her feelings in a lighthearted holiday puzzle.
By Sam Corbin
Jump to: Today’s Theme | Tricky Clues
WEDNESDAY PUZZLE — Subtle it’s not, but I still got a chuckle out of Ella Dershowitz’s declaration of L.O.V.E. blaring from today’s Valentine’s Day crossword. I also needed some L.O.V.E. myself, since I spent over 15 minutes struggling in the puzzle’s southeast corner and wondering: Is this the day I finally choo-choo-choose to walk away from a Wednesday?
I didn’t walk away, of course. I persevered, filled with certain gray-shaded sentiments represented in today’s theme. Valentine’s Day may be tiresome for single and partnered romantics alike, but Ms. Dershowitz’s crossword is a welcome escape from the demands of the day. Solving it also reminded me that there’s nothing I L.O.V.E. quite so much as a good puzzle.
Today’s Theme
In discovering the layers of today’s theme, I felt like a child plucking petals from a flower: I’ve solved it! I’ve solved it not. I've solved it! I’ve solved it not.
Gray-shaded letters in the grid clearly spell the word LOVE. But we don’t discover the significance of their fill until 35-Across, where a revealer points out that certain “Valentine’s Day exchanges” double as a descriptor for “what this puzzle’s shaded areas are?”
The answer is LOVE LETTERS. At first, this entry may seem too obvious — of course we’ve seen how those LETTERS spell LOVE! But as we fill in the grid, we discover that each letter contains a term for loving affection: The shaded L is filled with ROMANCE, the O with FONDNESS, the V with PASSION and the E with RESPECT.
That’s just wonderful. Bring me my fainting couch, would you? I’m swooning.
Tricky Clues
1A. The entry for “Confidence” — APLOMB — is a loanword from French . We don’t use the term in everyday speech, which makes it a tricky first clue for a puzzle. (If you do use the word often, though, I congratulate you on having the APLOMB to do so.)
22A. I’ve never had occasion to learn about “Oklahoma’s VANCE Air Force Base” in Enid, Okla. , which is used as a training ground for military pilots. This entry is made doubly difficult because we have to parse a partially abbreviated (albeit apt) crossing at 13D: THE V.A., a “Resource for service members, colloquially.”
63A. While some may have interpreted “Final watcher?” to mean a spectator of sports championships, my first instinct was to picture the grim reaper. How lovely to have a brain that does that! In any case, neither of these is right — the answer is PROCTOR, as in one who watches over final examinations.
9D. One “Fancy billiards shot” is known as a MASSÉ, which involves shooting the cue ball along a curve so as to sink a ball while evading an obstacle. You may recognize the name of the mathematician responsible for discovering the MASSÉ, Gustave Coriolis, for the Coriolis effect , which predicts the movement of weather patterns like hurricanes and tornadoes.
35D. I confused a few common phrases here, resulting in a spiral of wrong guesses about the answer for “Walk-ups, often.” (I mistakenly thought of the sports phrase “walk-ons” and the term for diners without a reservation, “walk-ins.”) The answer is LOW RISES, since buildings without an elevator often have fewer than five or six floors.
38D. This phrase for “Intervals” certainly took me an interval to come up with: TIME GAPS.
Constructor Notes
Happy Valentine’s Day or belated Galentine’s Day! It’s fitting that I made the mushy romance puzzle this year, because I got married. I also happen to have constructed last year’s Valentine’s Day puzzle, which was an ode not to romantic love but to junk food (something I will always deeply cherish, even though my now husband frequently waxes poetic about these things called vegetables). The most romantic part of this puzzle to me is actually not the theme but 40-Down — because while we have never exchanged LOVE LETTERS (35A), we did spend the first several months of our relationship binge-watching “The West Wing.” (He’d seen it before; I had not. We’ve since watched it together several times over.) I hope you all do, eat, read, watch or experience something you love today, and I hope you do it with someone you love!
