' src=

Bosch is a renowned home appliance brand that people across the globe trust to deliver time and time again on efficient and well-performing products , and a Bosch dishwasher is no exception.

However, even brands as big and popular as Bosch occasionally have problems, and their products won’t last forever.

If you’re wondering what common problems you might run into when you purchase a Bosch dishwasher , this article will tell you everything you need to know and how to solve those problems quickly and easily.

Keep reading to learn all the important facts that you need to know about your Bosch dishwasher .

The 9 Most Common Problems With A Bosch Dishwasher

Table of Contents

Here are the issues you might run into and how you will need to approach them if you do:

1. Filling With Water

Something that Bosch users experience quite frequently is their dishwasher filling up with water by itself when it should be empty. This can be a serious waste of water and is not very environmentally friendly.

It can also cause the appliance to overfill and spill water onto your kitchen floor, so it’s crucial that you address the issue as soon as you can . Luckily, the problem is typically caused by one of two issues: the water level sensor or the water inlet valve.

If your water level sensor is wet or dirty, it might send inaccurate readings to the control board and cause the dishwasher to fill with fresh, clean water. Cleaning the sensor will solve this problem in no time.

If it’s not your sensor, then you might have a faulty water inlet valve stuck in the “open” position, allowing a constant stream of water to flow into the appliance. In this case, the part will need to be replaced.

2. No Water Entering the Machine

On the other side of the spectrum, your appliance might not get any water supply whatsoever, leaving you unable to wash your dishes.

Once again, this problem is generally caused by a faulty water valve . If the valve is defective, it may close too early, preventing water from flowing into the machine during the wash or rinse cycle.

A faulty water inlet valve will need to be replaced;  this can be done by accessing the valve through the lower access panels and detaching it from a wire harness . If you don’t feel confident about completing a repair like this alone, call for assistance from a professional technician.

3. Draining Issues

Another common issue is your Bosch dishwasher not draining properly after a wash cycle. When this happens, you will be left with dirty water pooling in the bottom of your appliance, which can be extremely unhygienic.

Fortunately, this is yet another quick fix; all you need to do here is remove the filter and drain. You might need to manually drain the appliance using a cup or a jug to remove the water , and you can also place a dry towel or rag in the bottom of the dishwasher to mop up all the remaining water.

When all of the water has been removed, check the impeller to ensure no debris or obstructions are blocking it , and remove anything you notice.

4. Not Drying Properly

If your washer is cleaning your dishes thoroughly, but they come out dripping wet , this can be pretty frustrating.

However, it is important to note in this case that various Bosch dishwasher models use different drying methods . It might use a vent, a vent motor, or a heating mechanism, so you should refer to your dishwasher manual to determine which components your model uses so that you can take the correct steps.

If you have a vent, ensure it is opening properly; otherwise, check the vent fan motor – you might need to use a multimeter tool to test it for continuity to determine whether it is working properly . You can also manually turn the fan blade to check for any obstructions that prevent it from moving.

Finally, if your appliance uses a heating element, check this for continuity . If any of these components are defective, they must be replaced with new working parts.

5. Not Cleaning Your Dishes

Even more frustrating than wet dishes is when your load comes out completely filthy, needing to be washed again by hand.

If your dishwasher isn’t cleaning your dishes properly , it could be due to a few different causes. You could potentially be dealing with clogged spray arms or a dirty dishwasher filter.

You can remove both of these parts to clean. Run them under warm water to remove any obstructions, and use a soft washcloth and some soap to clear away dirt and grime build-up.

If this doesn’t solve the problem, be sure to balance your load of dishes properly and use the correct type of detergent for your appliance. If you place your dishes in a way that blocks the spray of water or obstructs the spray arm, your dishes might not get clean.

Similarly, the wrong type of detergent (or not using enough) can also lead to subpar cleaning .

6. Buttons Not Working

If the buttons on your appliance aren’t working, you won’t be able to select a dishwasher cycle or run the machine.

There could be a few things causing this problem, but the most common culprit is a foreign object blocking the button sensors . Check this, remove anything that might be blocking them, wipe them down , and then restart the appliance.

You might also have an issue with your selector switch , in which case you will need to replace it.

Your Bosch dishwasher might leak from the motor area if there is a leak in the pump seal. This could be caused by the sealant drying out, a defective screw, or damage to the pump itself.

You can use a silicone sealant to close any leaks and repair damage . You could also use a screwdriver to simply tighten anything that has come loose .

If the dishwasher is leaking from the door , you will need to assess the door latch and the door seal – if there is damage to either of these components, they will need to be replaced.

8. Noisy Operation

A noisy dishwasher can be a real frustration. It can also indicate a more significant underlying issue, which is why it’s important to investigate if you notice any unusual sounds coming from your appliance.

Here are a few things that could be causing a noise:

  • Overheating
  • An unbalanced load
  • An issue with the motor
  • A clogged filter
  • Poor thermal insulation

Be sure to take a closer look to diagnose the problem and call for professional assistance if you’re unsure  what steps to take.

Bosch Dishwasher Problems: Are They A Dealbreaker?

All dishwashers present problems from time to time, but this doesn’t have to be a dealbreaker for the product.

All these issues discussed above are common problems and don’t necessarily indicate a defect with the dishwasher or manufacturer . As you can see, these problems are also easy to diagnose and simple to solve.

Most of these issues can be avoided if you use your Bosch dishwasher with care, follow the correct use in the instructions manual, use a high-quality detergent, and schedule regular maintenance for your appliance.

Remember that home repairs can be dangerous if you’re not confident in your knowledge and abilities, so don’t rely on this guide alone to fix a broken dishwasher . If you’re unsure, contact a professional to help you with serious electronics or plumbing issues.

Inside a Bosch dishwasher with white dishes inside the racks.

Bosch dishwashers are designed to be smarter than the average dishwasher.

There’s a lot that goes into a modern dishwasher. With so many components and systems that have to work together, there are a number of things that could go wrong with a Bosch dishwasher. Here are a few things that could crop up, and what you should do about it.

1. Check for debris in the dishwasher door’s seal

A bit of broken glass, a food packaging tie, or a chunk of carrot can all keep the door from sealing closed, which also prevents the dishwasher from starting.

Use a finger or brush and trace around the exterior of the door where it seals closed. If there’s anything there, dislodge it.

2. Check the drain pump

Dirty water and food bits everywhere when the dishwasher fills up with water? Check to see if something is blocking the drain of your Bosch.

This can cause dirty water and gross bits to build up inside your dishwasher.

3. Check for error codes

4. clean out the soap dispenser.

If your Bosch is having problems dispensing soap correctly there may be just a buildup of gunk in the dispenser.

The soap dispenser mechanism is a sliding door that covers the compartment where you load detergent. Four tabs hold this door in place along its sliding rails. When the door is slid up, each tab can be moved through a notch to release the door.

Use your flathead screwdriver to pop this door off its rails. You’ll see a spring that connects the hatch door to its placement. Make sure to note how this spring connects to the dishwasher’s door.

Using a knife or toothpick, go through and work any gunk out of the notches of the soap dispenser door. Pay special attention to the spring release at the top of the detergent door.

When the mechanism is clear, reinstall the door, paying careful attention to the positioning of the spring. When properly reinstalled, the door should release as intended, midway through the load.

I did the above steps, and it took me less than five minutes.

5. Check your dishwasher’s installation

Most dishwashers installed into counters are held in place with fasteners that screw into the top of the dishwasher and affix it to the underside of your countertop. This fastener keeps the dishwasher from rocking about and coming loose.

Your Bosch dishwasher should also have small feet at its front that adjust where it sits under the counter. Look here and you’ll see screw braces that keep it from rocking side to side.

These can be adjusted to raise and lower the front of the dishwasher incrementally or position it left to right. If the door is catching on the counter or a cabinet, it’s worth adjusting these feet to see if this can free up the door to close properly.

6. Check the water supply valve

If your Bosch dishwasher was recently installed, then it’s a good idea to check the water valve underneath the sink.

In rare cases an installer might have forgotten to open this valve, which could keep water from entering the unit and keep it from beginning operation.

An easy way to rule this out is to start a cycle and see if water fills the unit.

This valve should be all the way open. If there’s no water in the machine, or only a little water, then locate the water valve and turn it counterclockwise to open it.

Also take this time to check the area under the sink to make sure your unit doesn’t have a leak.

7. Check the dishwasher’s water inlet valve

If you’ve established that the water valve is allowing water into the system, but there’s no water entering your dishwasher, then check the dishwasher’s intake valve. There could be a seal in the valve that needs to be opened and was missed in installation.

You could try probing the interior of the valve with a screwdriver to look for blockage. However, be careful. You don’t want to damage any components that are meant to be permanent.

8. Reset your Bosch

If your dishwasher is displaying error codes that don’t check out, then you should firstly try the old reboot.

A simple Bosch dishwasher reset is easy. The majority of Bosch units feature a start button that can be held for a few seconds to initiate a start reset.

If your load is having trouble and you need to cancel it, hold the start button and you’ll see the screen flash, signifying that it’s resetting.

For bigger issues or if this fails, it’s worth it to try a more total reset. Unplug your dishwasher and plug it back in. If that’s impossible because of the way it’s installed, then consider flipping the breaker switch to reboot it.

9. Check dish placement

Bosch dishwashers are designed to be smarter than the average dishwasher. But sometimes that means you have to use some brains to keep up.

The Complete Bosch Dishwasher Troubleshooting Manual for Common Problems

The table below is a summary of the most common Bosch dishwasher problems as well as how you can fix them fast.

1. Bosch Dishwasher Troubleshooting Not Starting

Your Bosch dishwasher won’t start because:

The power is not on. Verify that you have the dishwasher plugged into a power source. Look beneath the sink to ensure you set the power switch to ON.

The unit won’t start if you don’t latch the door. The door latch keeps the unit from leaking and sends signals to the control panel that it’s fine to start a wash cycle.

So ensure you shut the door completely, so the door switch can receive a signal from the control panel to start the dishwasher. Replace the door latch if the current one is faulty.

ENTERPARK door latch

The unit won’ start if you select wrong settings. Check the instructions for your Bosch dishwasher to learn if your model includes a child lock or delay-starting features.

Also, the unit won’t start if there’s insufficient water supply. Ensure the water valve is open and that you have dishwasher correctly connected to the water supply in your home.

2. Bosch Dishwasher Starts then Stops

It’s likely that a blown fuse in the fuse box caused the Bosch dishwasher to stop after starting .

It’s also possible that the thermal fuse in your dishwasher has blown, which would explain why it stopped running in the midst of a cycle.

A thermal fuse is a helpful component that trips and cuts power to the appliance if it detects that the dishwasher has reached an unsafe temperature.

You should replace both the fuse in the circuit breaker and the thermal fuse in the machine as soon as possible. If you notice that the circuit breaker tripped, just reset it to the ON position to have electricity following through the device.

3. Bosch Dishwasher Troubleshooting Not Draining

Your Bosch dishwasher won’t drain properly or fail to drain altogether for a number of reasons.

Bosch dishwashers do not drain correctly due to a clogged or kinked hose. Inspect the drainpipe for obstructions. Untangle or straighten the line to restore normal water flow if you’re dealing with a kinked hose.

A faulty drain valve can stop the unit from draining. The valve, which only opens when there’s enough pressure behind them, prevents water from returning to the dishwasher’s drain. However, the valve won’t work if there are debris blocking the path, hence the unit’s inability to drain.

Our guide on Bosch dishwasher not draining should help you to troubleshoot these and additional problems that cause the unit not to drain properly or fail to drain at all.

4. Bosch Dishwasher Won’t Start Wash Cycle

Doesn’t it disappoint if a Bosch dishwasher fail to initiate a wash cycle?

More often than not, a Bosch dishwasher will not begin a wash cycle if the door is open, the latch is faulty, or if the racks aren’t in proper position.

Faulty door hinges and corrupt unit programming may can cause the unit not to begin a wash cycle or even stop in the middle of a cycle.

And if you’ve had the control lock activated, whether that was intentional or by error, your unit won’t start a new wash cycle or continue the current one. Again, insufficient water supply and water pool might also prevent a washing cycle from beginning.

Check out my guide on Bosch dishwasher not starting a cycle to learn how to fix all these problems without the help of a technician.

5. Bosch Dishwasher No Lights on Control Panel

The lack of power supply to the unit is the most common reason for the Bosch dishwasher control panel not having lights.

  • Reset your home’s circuit breaker to restore power flow
  • Check if there are loose power cords and reconnect
  • Check if there are loose connections to the main control board and fix them

In the worst-case scenario, you may have to replace your Bosch dishwasher control panel with a new one.

6. Bosch dishwasher Not Starting Red Light Flashing

If your Bosch dishwasher won’t start and there’s a red light flashing from the unit, it means the door latch has a problem.

The sensor may be faulty or you forgot to engage the door latch fully.

I recommend that you read this guid e to learn more about why your Bosch dishwasher isn’t starting but has the red light flashing.

7. Bosch Dishwasher Won’t Start Just Beeps

I understand how frustrating it can be when a Bosch dishwasher can’t start but beeps instead.

As someone who owns a Bosch model myself, I can say that such an issue is quite common, and it can be quite an inconvenience. However, the cause of the beep and the failure to start are issues you can easily deal with it.

From my experience, the unit doesn’t start but beeps because of a faulty door latch, water supply problems, and selection of a wrong wash cycle.

Also, the unit may fail to start if the timer and drive motor are defective and if the selector switch loses its continuity.

8. Bosch Dishwasher Troubleshooting E24

If you have a Bosch dishwasher and you get the error number E24, it indicates that the drain line has some sort of clog or obstruction in it. Hair and food particles are the most typical causes of this problem.

In some cases, the E24 error may be an indication of a faulty filter, which means you need to have the filter replaced.

Bosch Appliance Filter Micro

9. Bosch Dishwasher Troubleshooting E15

The error E15 on a Bosch dishwasher means there’s water accumulation in the lower base of the unit. When the E15 error message shows, the dishwasher will not operate because its anti-flooding mechanism prevents the dishwasher from flooding your kitchen floor with extra water.

Code error E15 signals a leak in the unit, which might occur in the hoses, the sump basin, or the water tank. In the worst-case scenario, the source of the leak might be a damaged fixture.

When there is a leak in the sump basin, the water will flow directly to that trough, causing the disc to float and activate the safety switch. A loose, rusted, or worn out sump basin results in the failure to build a watertight seal, which subsequently permits water to leak out and drop into the trough below.

The best course of action would be tighten the screws that are securing the sump basin in place. In the event that the leak continues, you will need to remove the sump basin and install a new component.

Also, reset the error code and run an empty cycle in the dishwasher to remove any extra suds or detergent buildup from the unit.

10. Bosch Dishwasher Problems Not Cleaning

Your Bosch dishwasher isn’t cleaning dishes because:

You Loaded Too Many Items

If you load too many items in the dishwasher, there will be insufficient space for water and detergent to reach every item when the dishwasher. Overloading also increases the likelihood that an item may protrude from a rack and keep the spray arms from rotating.

  • Arrange one dish per slot and alternate forks and spoons next to one another to prevent nesting. Make sure bowls do not overlap in order to optimize access to water and detergent.
  • Make sure that loaded objects do not dangle below the rack so they don’t obstruct the spray arms.
  • Place big utensils on the top rack to keep them from obstructing the spray arms or overcrowding the silverware basket.

The Detergent Dispenser Isn’t Working

Detergent difficulties may also contribute to a Bosch dishwasher’s inability to clean dishes.

Always use a high-quality dishwashing detergent that has a combination of enzymes, soap, and rinse aid to break down food particles and reduce hard water stains.

Examine the dispenser and remove any residue that might clog it or prevent it from opening. After a wash cycle, if dishes are still dirty and the dispenser is still closed, there’s a high chance the dispenser is faulty and needs a replacement.

You can get a Bosch compatible dishwasher dispenser for replacement.

Bosch 645208 Dispenser for Dish Washer

Water Supply Failure

Not only does a dishwasher require sufficient amounts of hot water to remove food particles and detergent residue, but also to remove food particles and rinse away detergent residue. If your Bosch dishwasher is not rinsing soap and it leaves dishes filthy, the water supply may be malfunctioning.

  • Verify that your home’s hot water heater warms water to at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • The water input valve of the dishwasher requires at least 20 psi of pressure to completely open and enable water to flow from the household supply. If the pressure is too low, the water input valve may not open properly, resulting in diminished water flow and cleaning ability.
  • If the water intake valve exhibits apparent damage or a loss of continuity when tested with a multimeter, have it replaced.

5 Common BOSCH Dishwasher Problems

Bosch is one of the best dishwasher brands, but even their dishwashers are prone to breakage every now and then.

The above steps should help you figure out why your dryer keeps tripping the breaker. Taking a logical, patient approach will almost always yield favorable results.

Remember to always consult the manual for your specific dryer model. Parts and their locations vary from model to model.

Whenever problems arise, it is important to detect and diagnose the problem.

To make the process easier, we have compiled this guide of the 5 most common Bosch dishwasher problems and how to fix them.

Bosch Dishwasher Problems

Table of Contents

Here are the 5 most common Bosch dishwasher problems, as well as advice on how to fix them:

1.     Dishwasher Fills Up With Clean Water By Itself

One of the most common problems associated with Bosch dishwashers is that the dishwasher fills up with clean water by itself .

It is important to fix this problem or else you may be wasting water, which can add up quickly.

This also causes water to spill onto the floor, potentially causing water damage.

The reason for this problem is that the water inlet valve gets stuck in the open position.

A water inlet valve that is stuck in the open position causes water to get into the tub, even when the dishwasher is turned off.

Normally, water inlet valves get stuck in the open position whenever the solenoids got jammed by calcium build-up due to hard water.

Even if its small amount of water siping through the valve, in a couple of hours or on the next day you will see water level raised above fine filter mesh.

Just want to repeat, if its clear water it is 100% problem with inlet valve and it needs to be replaced.

There is no way to clean the valve, only replacement.

2.     Dishwasher Fills Up With Dirty Water

Another problem similar to the first is that your Bosch dishwasher fills up with dirty water .

This is extremely unsanitary, and it also causes leaking, which can result in costly water damage.

Obviously, you will know this problem is occurring whenever dirty water fills the dishwasher.

Most likely, the reason for a dishwasher that fills up with dirty water is that the check valve is damaged.

The point of the check valve is to allow the water to flow in one direction only, preventing dirty water from flowing back into the dishwasher from the sink.

If the check valve is damaged, then dirty water will enter the dishwasher.

The check valve will be located by the drain pump inside the dishwasher tub (on some models)

Replace the check valve by opening the dishwasher door and removing the lower washer rack.

Lift the lower spray arm up and set it aside. Next, remove the filter screen basket and filter screen.

Reach in and unscrew the cover. Lift the cover up and pull it out of the washer.

Then, use a flathead screwdriver to wiggle the damaged check valve out of the dishwasher.

Place the new check valve where the damaged one was located.

Once it is in the slot, press it in to ensure that it is firmly in place. Reassemble the dishwasher.

3.     Dishwasher Not Draining Properly

Another common problem associated with Bosch dishwashers is at the dishwasher does not drain properly .

When this happens, the dirty water is left at the bottom of your dishwasher.

bosch dishwasher problem solving

This is extremely unsanitary, which is why it is imperative to fix this problem immediately. Luckily, this problem is easy to fix.

Begin by removing the filter and drain. If there is a lot of water, you may need to remove the water by using a cup to ladle it out.

Once most of the water is removed, place a dry rag all the way into the washer drain to remove all the water and junk.

Next, loosen and remove the nut using a screwdriver. Then, remove the part to reveal the impeller.

Move the impeller around to see if anything is jamming the impeller. Remove any debris.

Additionally, pull out the rubber check valve and make sure there is no debris.

It is important to note that you should try to make the water backwasher through the impeller and rubber piece.

This will allow you to see any debris that may be getting in your way. It may take you a couple of tries before you are able to find the debris.

4.     Water Not Filling Up Dishwasher

The fourth common problem associated with Bosch dishwashers is that water does not fill up the dishwasher.

This is a problem since it will not allow the dishwasher to properly clean your dishes, which is unsanitary.

It is important to fix this problem right away.

Like many of the other problems on this list, water not filling up the dishwasher is caused by a faulty water inlet valve.

bosch dishwasher problem solving

If the valve is defective, it can cause it to close early, which prevents water from fully filling up the dishwasher during the cycle.

To fix this problem, you can replace the water inlet valve. You do this by removing the old valve, which is accessed by the lower access panels.

You will need to detach a wire harness, disconnect the water line, and remove the brass elbow.

Then, remove the old water inlet valve and replace it with the new one. Reassemble your dishwasher and test to make sure it is fixed.

You may also want to test the solenoids of the dishwasher. The solenoids are magnets that allow the water inlet valve to open and close.

You will use a multimeter to see if there is an issue with the solenoids.

5.     Bosch Dishwasher Not Drying Dishes

Finally, the last common problem associated with Bosch dishwashers is that the dishwasher does not properly dry the dishes.

The reason why your dishwasher does not dry properly is dependent on how your model dries the dishes: either with a vent, vent motor, or heating mechanism.

To fix this problem, you need to check the dishwasher vent and the motor.

You will know that the dishwasher vent is the problem if the vent does not open properly. If you find that the vent is not opening correctly, replace it with an exact replica.

If the vent is opening properly, then you will want to check the vent fan motor.

To determine if your fan motor has failed, test the motor for continuity using a multimeter .

You can also try turning the fan blade by hand to see if there is anything causing it to stick.

Replace the vent fan if the motor is not continuous or if there is an issue with its turning.

Finally, the third reason why your dishwasher may not be drying properly is a defective heating element.

Use a multimeter to test for continuity. If it is not continuous, replace the part that is specific to your model.

1. My Dishwasher Fills with Water Randomly

The first problem a lot of people have with their Bosch dishwashers is when they randomly fill up with clean water. If you don’t fix the problem, you’ll end up wasting a lot of water, and water might leak out onto the floor, causing a hazard.

This problem is caused by a faulty water inlet valve. What happens is the water inlet valve fails to close when it should and stays open, causing water to fill into your dishwasher even when the cycle ends and the dishwasher is switched off.

Here’s how to check and fix a faulty water inlet valve:

  • Turn the power to your dishwasher off.
  • Turn the water supply to your dishwasher off.
  • Locate the water inlet valve (check your manual if necessary).
  • Inspect the valve to see if it is jammed open or damaged in any way (sometimes the solenoids get jammed from buildups of debris).
  • If the valve is damaged, it will need to be replaced as it is not repairable.
  • If you do replace the valve, you’ll need to plug your dishwasher back in and test if the problem has been solved.

2. The Water in My Dishwasher Is Dirty

The next common problem people have with their Bosch dishwashers is when they fill up with dirty water. When this happens, your dishes won’t come out clean, and you run the risk of leaks, which can cause damage to your floor and hazards.

This problem is most commonly caused by a faulty check valve. The purpose of the check valve is to make sure water only flows in one direction, which stops dirty water from flowing into the dishwasher from your sink.

To inspect the check valve:

  • Turn the power and the water supply off.
  • Locate the check valve—in most Bosch dishwashers it will be located next to the drain pump. If you’re not sure, check your manual.
  • Check the valve for any signs of damage.
  • If the valve is faulty, it will need to be replaced.
  • To replace the check valve, you need to remove the lower washing rack, remove the spray arm, and remove the filter screen basket and filter screen.
  • Unscrew the cover and lift it out of the dishwasher.
  • You can then remove the check valve and replace it with a new one.
  • Once you’ve successfully replaced the check valve, you can put your dishwasher back together and check if the problem has been solved. If not, you will need to call a technician to come and have a look at your Bosch dishwasher.

3. My Dishwasher Won’t Drain

The next common problem people have with their Bosch dishwashers is when they stop draining properly. When this happens, dirty water and debris will clog your dishwasher, and your dishes won’t come out clean.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to clean out the drain. To do that:

  • Open your dishwasher door and remove the bottom rack.
  • Remove the spray arm and bottom cover if your dishwasher has one.
  • If your dishwasher has a lot of water in it, you’ll need to manually drain it out with a container followed by a towel to soak up the last of the water.
  • Locate the impeller and try to manually turn it around. If anything is getting in its way, remove it.
  • If there is no obvious debris blocking the impeller from moving around, then you’ll need to get a technician to come and inspect your dishwasher.
  • If the impeller cannot move around at all, this might mean it needs to be fully replaced.
  • If you have a multimeter, if you can, also take the drain pump out of the dishwasher and check it for continuity. If it doesn’t have continuity, it will need to be replaced.

4. My Dishwasher Doesn’t Fill with Water

The next common problem people have with their Bosch dishwashers is when the dishwasher doesn’t fill with any water or doesn’t fill with enough water. When this happens, you won’t be able to wash your dishes properly.

This problem is also mainly caused by a faulty water inlet valve. The valve is difficult to repair, so your best option is to just replace it. To replace it:

  • Turn the power and water off to the dishwasher.
  • Locate the water inlet valve—it is usually located through the lower access panels.
  • Once located, disconnect the wire harness and disconnect the water hose from it.
  • You can then attach the new inlet valve, reattach the wires and water, and put your dishwasher back together.
  • You can now test your dishwasher to see if the problem has been solved, and if not, you’ll need to call a qualified technician to come and inspect your dishwasher.

5. My Dishwasher Isn’t Drying Dishes

The final problem is when the dishwasher doesn’t properly dry the dishes after a cycle has ended.

This problem can be caused by several faulty components in your dishwasher and depends a lot on your specific model of Bosch dishwasher. The main faulty components are usually the vent motor, the heating element, and a faulty vent.

Here’s how to fix this problem:

  • Turn the power off and the water off.
  • Locate the dishwasher vent and check that it can open correctly. If not, it will need to be replaced.
  • Check the vent fan motor. To check the fan motor, you need to locate it (check your manual if necessary) and then use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If it doesn’t have continuity, it will need to be replaced.
  • If the fan motor is ok, then you should locate the heating element and check it with a multimeter for continuity. If it doesn’t have continuity, it is faulty and will need to be replaced.
  • If you cannot find the cause of the problem or if you don’t have a multimeter, you will need to call a technician to come and inspect your Bosch dishwasher.

Bosch Dishwasher Troubleshooting Manual (the ultimate guide)

Bosch dishwashers are known for their reliability, durability and great cleaning performance. But sometimes even Bosch dishwashers develop the odd fault. Which is why we’ve put together this troubleshooting manual.

In this guide you’ll find a description of the fault your Bosch dishwasher is having an issue with as well as the most likely solution to that problem. All of the faults listed in this guide are relatively common and easy to fix so you might want to bookmark this page for future reference.

Table of Contents

Common Bosch Dishwasher Faults & Fixes

Below you will find the most common faults found in Bosch dishwashers along with the easy fix solutions.

Dishwasher Fails To Start

If your Bosch dishwasher fails to start, the first thing to check is that you have connected the appliance to the mains electricity. This means checking that the plug is pushed firmly into the wall socket and that the socket is turned on.

If this doesn’t do the trick, try unplugging the dishwasher and plugging something else into that same socket. If the new appliance works then you know it’s not the socket at fault.

Or It Could Be The Door Not Latched Correctly

Another common cause for Bosch dishwashers failing to start is the door not being fully latched. When the door closes correctly on a Bosch dishwasher it creates a seal to prevent any water escaping during the cleaning process.

If the appliance detects that the door is not closed correctly, it will not start. Check for any items however small that could be preventing the door from latching correctly. All it takes is a small piece of food, dirt or other debris to prevent the door from sealing correctly.

It could even be a small piece of glass, a food tie or even a small piece of vegetable matter. Inspect all around the door seal for any objects, however small, that shouldn’t be there and remove them.

Dishwasher Doesn’t Drain

If your Bosch dishwasher fails to drain the dirty water away it means your dishes are sitting in dirty water and won’t come out clean or dry. The most common cause for this is a blocked or twisted drain hose and this is easy to check.

Just inspect the drain hose for any twists or kinks and straighten the hose if there are any. If the hose isn’t twisted, it could have a blockage which will mean removing the hose and using a plumber’s snake to free any blockage.

Heavy Duty Plumbers Snake, 7.7m Plumbing Snake Drain Auger, Hair Clog Remover Pipe Snake for Kitchen/Bathroom Sink/Bathtub Drain/Toilet, with Pipe Dredge Tool: Gloves and Shower Drain Protector

  • Professional manual drain auger snake 7.7 meters will easily resolve slow or drain clogs, free length adjustment available. It fits most drain pipes: bathtub drains, bathroom drains, shower drains, sinks, downspouts, and sewer drains.
  • Submachine gun super cool appearance design. It consists of strong recyclable ABS handle/drum and flexible manganese long steel snake, will quickly remove obstructions and be a lasting and excellent performance.

If the drain hose is clear, you should check the filter as this could become blocked and prevent the dirty water from leaving the appliance.

If the above are not the cause, the problem is most likely to be with the drain pump which is probably best left to an expert. Or it might be that the drain valve is faulty.

The drain valve will only open if there’s enough pressure behind it to prevent any water from re-entering the dishwasher. If there is any debris blocking the valve it cannot work which could be the problem.

Dishwasher Stops Soon After Starting

If your Bosch dishwasher starts as usual but then suddenly stops it’s most likely to be because of a blown thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is a safety device which detects if the temperature of the dishwasher gets too high and blows to cut the power and prevent any serious damage.

The dishwasher will not restart until a new thermal fuse has been installed. If the thermal fuse does blow, it can sometimes cause the circuit breaker to trip as well. So you’ll need to reset the circuit breaker at the same time as replacing the thermal fuse.

Dishwasher Cycle Doesn’t Start

If your Bosch dishwasher doesn’t start a wash cycle the most likely cause is that the door isn’t fully latched. Check that the racks are in their correct position and that there are no dishes preventing the door from closing.

Then check that the door latch is working correctly and the hinges on the door are working properly too. If necessary, replace the door latch with a new unit.

Another common reason why the wash cycle won’t start is because the child lock has been accidentally activated. The appliance will not start if the child lock has been activated.

Other reasons for your Bosch dishwasher not starting a wash cycle include; not enough water (check the inlet hose and inlet valve) or insufficient drainage (check the drain hose, filter and drain pump).

Flashing Red Light & Dishwasher Won’t Start

If your Bosch dishwasher is displaying a flashing red light and it fails to start, it’s because of a problem with the door latch. This could be as simple as you failed to shut the door correctly in which case the solution is simple.

You should check that there are no dishes obstructing the door or the baskets are sticking out slightly. Once you’ve remedied these issues try to close the dishwasher door again.

If it still doesn’t close correctly, or it seems closed but still displays the red flashing light and won’t start, it could be a faulty door latch or a faulty sensor. These will need checking using a multimeter for continuity and replacing if found to be faulty.

No Lights On The Control Panel

If there are no lights on the control panel of your Bosch dishwasher it is most probably caused by a lack of power. This could mean the plug has been pulled slightly from the socket or the socket has been switched off.

To fix this simply push the plug fully into the socket and ensure that the wall socket is switched on. Check the circuit breaker to ensure there is power running to the unit and inspect the power cable for any signs of wear.

If all of the above is fine, the problem could be a loose connection to the control board . If none of these apply, you might need to replace the control panel.

Dishwasher Displays Error Code E24

If your Bosch dishwasher is displaying error code E24 it means there’s a problem with drainage. This is more often than not caused by a blockage of some sort either in the drain hose, filter or drain pump.

This is usually caused by a twisted drain hose or a blockage of food or hair in the drain hose or the filter needs cleaning or the drain pump is faulty.

Dishwasher Is Beeping But Won’t Start

This can be very frustrating especially if you’re relying on getting those dishes clean in a hurry. In most cases, it’s an easy fix which just entails making sure the door is closed correctly.

However, it could be due to a faulty door latch, faulty door latch sensor or even an issue with the water supply.

The door latch and sensor will need to be checked for continuity using a multimeter while the water supply could be due to the inlet hose being twisted, the inlet valve developing a fault or the mains water supply turned off.

In some cases, it could be caused if you select an incorrect wash cycle which is another easy fix. Just select the correct wash cycle and restart the appliance.

More serious issues which could cause this fault include; a faulty timer, faulty drive motor or a faulty selector switch.

Dishes

Dishes Fail To Clean

If the dishes in your Bosch dishwasher fail to clean it could be caused by several things which include;

Dishes Loaded Incorrectly

If you load too many dishes or place dishes too close together, there’s not enough space for water and detergent to get to every item. You might also place items that are too tall in the way of the spray arms which will prevent them from moving correctly and covering each item.

You should always;

  • Place Dishes Correctly Arrange plates so that each plate has its own slot and is not blocking the neighbouring plates.
  • Arrange Cutlery Correctly Cutlery should be placed in the cutlery basket in an alternate fashion. Placing all the forks or spoons together can result in them clumping together which will prevent them from cleaning correctly.
  • Allow Enough Space For Bowls Remember that bowls are likely to fall forwards slightly and block neighbouring bowls from cleaning.
  • Ensure No Dishes Protrude Make sure that none of the dishes from one rack protrude onto the adjacent rack which would prevent the spray arm from moving correctly. Ensure that large utensils are placed on the top rack and laid flat to prevent them obstructing the water flow.

Detergent Dispenser Is Faulty

You should always use a high quality detergent in your Bosch dishwasher to ensure all of your dishes get cleaned correctly. If you’re sure the detergent you’re using isn’t the problem, check the detergent dispenser itself.

If there is any residual detergent left after the cycle has finished, this should be removed. If the dispenser failed to open during the wash cycle it’s very likely to need replacing.

No Water Supply

If your Bosch dishwasher isn’t getting enough water it cannot clean your dishes properly. This can be caused by the inlet hose being twisted, the inlet valve being faulty or the water pressure to your home being low.

Dishwashers need at least 20 Psi of pressure to completely open the inlet valve and ensure a sufficient flow of water to the unit. All British water authorities have to provide a minimum of one bar of pressure to your home.

One bar of pressure is the equivalent of anywhere between 40 to 60 Psi and is therefore more than enough to run a dishwasher.

If your dishwasher isn’t getting sufficient water to clean the dishes but your home is getting a steady supply, it’s most likely to be a problem with the inlet hose or the inlet valve.

You can inspect the hose for any twists or kinks and once the hose has been straightened, this should solve the problem.

The inlet valve will need to be checked for continuity using a multimeter and will need to be replaced if found to be faulty.

Dishwasher Displays Error Code E15

If your Bosch dishwasher is displaying error code E15 it indicates that there’s water in the base of the appliance. As well as displaying the E15 error code, the dishwasher will fail to operate. This is because of the anti-flood mechanism which prevents your home from flooding.

Error code E15 indicates a leak somewhere within the appliance. This could be one of the hoses, the water tank or the sump basin. If you feel you have the technical ability to safely dismantle your dishwasher and check for any leaks, you can but we advise you to contact Bosch directly if the appliance is still under warranty or an engineer if not.

  • Soft Reset To perform a soft reset all you need to do is press and hold the “start” button for 3 to 5 seconds. This is often enough to clear the programme and reset the appliance.
  • Hard Reset If a soft reset doesn’t clear the error code or fault with your Bosch dishwasher, you should; Remove the plug from the wall socket for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Then plug it back in and turn on the wall socket. The appliance should now be fully restored to usual operations and any temporary memory should also have been cleared.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common fault with a Bosch dishwasher is not cleaning dishes properly. This can be caused because the filter needs cleaning, the dishes are stacked poorly, using a low quality detergent or insufficient water pressure.

If your Bosch dishwasher has power but won’t start it could be because there is insufficient water. This can be caused by low water pressure from the supply, a twisted inlet hose or a faulty inlet valve.

If your Bosch dishwasher is displaying a flashing red light and won’t start, the most likely cause is the door isn’t closed correctly. Check that there are no obstructions preventing the door from closing properly. This could be a large dish sticking out, the rack not pushed in fully or an item of food etc stuck in the door. Alternatively, it could be that the door latch or door sensor are faulty.

What should I do if my dishwasher is not draining?

If your Bosch dishwasher is not draining, there could be several possible reasons:

  • Clogged drain hose : Check the drain hose that leads from the dishwasher to the sink or garbage disposal. If it is clogged, water will not be able to drain out of the dishwasher.
  • Clogged air gap : The air gap is the small metal or plastic device on the back of the sink that prevents water from flowing back into the dishwasher. If it is clogged, water will not be able to drain out of the dishwasher.
  • Faulty drain pump : The drain pump is responsible for removing water from the dishwasher. If it is not working properly, water will not be able to drain out of the dishwasher.
  • Blocked drain filter : The drain filter is located at the bottom of the dishwasher and can become clogged with food debris and other particles. If it is clogged, water will not be able to drain out of the dishwasher.
  • Broken garbage disposal : If your dishwasher drains into a garbage disposal, the disposal may be clogged or broken, which can prevent water from draining out of the dishwasher.

What should I do if my dishwasher water is not getting hot?

If the water in your Bosch dishwasher is not getting hot, there are several possible reasons:

  • Faulty heating element: The heating element in the dishwasher may be faulty or burned out, preventing the water from heating up. You can check the heating element for damage or continuity using a multimeter.
  • Broken thermostat: The thermostat is responsible for regulating the water temperature in the dishwasher. If it is not functioning properly, it may prevent the water from heating up. You can test the thermostat with a multimeter to check if it’s functioning properly.
  • Clogged dishwasher filter: A clogged dishwasher filter can reduce the water pressure in the dishwasher, which may prevent the water from heating up properly. Check the dishwasher filter and clean it if it’s dirty or clogged.
  • Faulty control board: If the control board that regulates the dishwasher’s operation is malfunctioning, it may prevent the heating element from functioning properly. A faulty control board may also cause the dishwasher to display error codes or not operate at all.
  • Water inlet valve: The water inlet valve is responsible for regulating the water flow into the dishwasher. If it’s not working correctly, it can reduce the water pressure, which can cause the water not to heat up properly.
  • Incorrect cycle selection: Make sure you are selecting the correct wash cycle that includes a heating function. Some dishwasher cycles do not use hot water, and the water will remain cold.

How do I fix a leaking dishwasher?

There are several potential causes of a Bosch dishwasher leaking, including:

  • Improper installation: If the dishwasher was not installed correctly, it could cause leaks. This could include an incorrectly installed water supply or drainage hose or an improperly levelled dishwasher.
  • Damaged door seal: Over time, the door seal on a Bosch dishwasher can become damaged or worn, causing leaks. This is a common issue that can often be resolved by replacing the door seal.
  • Clogged or damaged drain hose: If the dishwasher’s drain hose becomes clogged or damaged, water can back up and cause leaks.
  • Broken or damaged water inlet valve: If the water inlet valve on the dishwasher is broken or damaged, it can cause water to leak out of the dishwasher.
  • Faulty float switch: The float switch is a safety feature that shuts off the dishwasher’s water supply if the water level becomes too high. If the float switch is malfunctioning, it can cause water to leak out of the dishwasher.
  • Cracked or damaged tub: If the dishwasher’s tub is cracked or damaged, it can cause water to leak out.

Why is my dishwasher not cleaning the dishes properly?

If your dishwasher is not cleaning the dishes properly you may notice food particles or residue left on dishes: If you notice food particles or residue left on your dishes after running the dishwasher, this is a clear sign that the dishwasher is not cleaning the dishes properly. If your dishes look cloudy or have spots on them after running the dishwasher, this could be a sign that the water temperature is too low, or that the detergent is not dissolving properly. If your dishwasher smells bad, this could indicate that food particles and debris are stuck in the filters or spray arm, preventing the dishwasher from cleaning the dishes properly. If your dishwasher is taking longer than usual to complete a cycle, this could be a sign that the dishwasher is having trouble cleaning the dishes.

There could be several reasons why your Bosch dishwasher is not cleaning the dishes properly. Here are some common causes and solutions:

  • Overloading : If you are overloading your dishwasher, the dishes may not be getting cleaned properly because the water and detergent cannot reach all the surfaces. Try running smaller loads or rearranging the dishes to create more space.
  • Clogged spray arm: The spray arm rotates and sprays water onto the dishes to clean them. If it’s clogged with food debris or hard water deposits, the dishes may not get cleaned properly. Remove the spray arm and clean it thoroughly.
  • Dirty filters: Dishwashers have filters that trap food particles and debris to prevent them from clogging the pump or spray arm. If the filters are dirty, they can reduce water flow and prevent the dishwasher from cleaning the dishes properly. Clean the filters regularly.
  • Low water temperature: If the water entering your dishwasher is not hot enough, the detergent won’t dissolve properly and the dishes won’t get clean. Check your water heater and make sure the temperature is set to at least 120°F (49°C).
  • Old or expired detergent: If your dishwasher detergent is old or expired, it may not be effective in cleaning the dishes. Replace the detergent with a fresh one.

Why aren’t my dishes dry?

If your Bosch dishwasher is not drying the dishes, it can be frustrating and inconvenient. Dishes that come out of the dishwasher wet can be annoying because you may have to dry them by hand, which can take additional time and effort. When dishes are not properly dried, they can have water spots on them, which can make them look unclean or unappetizing. If dishes remain wet for an extended period of time, they can develop mold and mildew, which can be unsanitary and even dangerous. If you have to run the dishwasher multiple times or run longer cycles to compensate for the lack of drying, it can be inconvenient and time-consuming. If you have to use additional energy to run the dishwasher multiple times or use longer cycles, it can result in higher energy bills, which can be frustrating.

Overall, a dishwasher that is not properly drying dishes can be inconvenient and annoying, and it is important to address the issue to ensure that your dishes are clean and dry.

If your Bosch dishwasher is not drying the dishes, there are several possible causes. Here are some things you can check and try to fix the problem:

  • Rinse aid: Make sure your dishwasher’s rinse aid dispenser is filled with rinse aid. Rinse aid helps water run off dishes, which speeds up the drying process. Check the rinse aid dispenser and refill it if necessary.
  • Loading: Make sure you are loading your dishwasher correctly. Improper loading can cause dishes to obstruct the flow of hot air and prevent them from drying properly. Make sure dishes are spaced apart and not touching.
  • Heat Dry option: Make sure that you have selected the “Heat Dry” option on your dishwasher. This setting will help ensure that dishes dry thoroughly.
  • Drying cycle: Make sure that the drying cycle is complete before opening the dishwasher. If you open the dishwasher during the drying cycle, you will let out the hot air and your dishes will not dry properly.
  • Faulty heating element: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, then there may be a problem with the heating element. The heating element is responsible for heating the air inside the dishwasher, which dries the dishes. A faulty heating element can prevent dishes from drying properly. Consult a professional appliance repair technician to diagnose and fix the problem.
  • Faulty thermostat: Another possible cause of the problem could be a faulty thermostat. The thermostat controls the temperature inside the dishwasher, and if it is not functioning properly, it can prevent the dishwasher from heating up enough to dry the dishes. When your Bosch dishwasher won’t drain, it’s essential to identify and fix the root of the problem .

In this section, we’ll discuss three aspects to check in order to diagnose the issue properly: the bottom of the dishwasher, the drain line and hose, and the drain pump examination.

Checking the Bottom of the Dishwasher

First, you should inspect the bottom of the dishwasher for any debris or standing water. Start by removing the filter, which can typically be found at the base of your dishwasher. Clean it thoroughly with soap and a soft brush under running water.

This helps to prevent a clogged filter from obstructing the drainage system. Refer to your owner’s manual for detailed instructions on how to remove and reinstall the filter correctly.

Now that the filter is clean, take a look at the drain area at the bottom of the dishwasher. For most Bosch dishwasher models, you should find a small cover that protects the pump.

Carefully remove this cover and check for any debris that might be blocking the pump or causing the dishwasher to retain water.

Drain Line and Hose Inspection

The next step in the troubleshooting process is to examine the drain line and hose. Inspect the drain hose for kinks or obstructions that might be causing a blockage. A blocked drain hose can prevent the dishwasher from draining completely.

If needed, straighten out any kinks or remove any obstruction found in the drain hose. Be cautious when handling the hose, as excessive force can cause damage.

Additionally, ensure that the drain line is correctly connected to the sink’s drainage system. If the connection is loose or improperly fitted, water may not flow out of the dishwasher during the draining cycle.

The Drain Pump Examination

Lastly, perform the drain pump examination to ensure that it is functioning properly. Bosch dishwasher pumps are designed to remove water efficiently, but sometimes they can malfunction, especially if there’s an obstruction or debris present.

To access the dishwasher pump, you may need to consult the owner’s manual for your specific model. Once the pump is exposed, check for any signs of damage or visible blockages.

When in doubt, consider calling Bosch appliance service professionals to examine the pump and recommend any necessary repairs or replacements.

By following these steps and inspecting the various aspects of your dishwasher’s draining system, you can confidently and effectively resolve any drainage issues in your Bosch dishwasher.

Solving the Drainage Issue

Clearing debris and obstructions.

One of the most common causes of a Bosch dishwasher that won’t drain is the presence of debris and obstructions in the filter and drain pump. Start by removing the dishwasher filter and cleaning it with soap and a soft brush under running water. Be sure to remove any objects and food debris that may have become trapped in the filter.

Once the filter is clean, you’ll want to move on to the drain pump. Start by removing the pump cover according to the instructions in your owner’s manual. Inspect the pump for any visible blockages or obstructions, such as food residue or small items that may have fallen into the dishwasher. Clear out any blockages you find.

Disconnect and Repairing Drain Hose

Another common problem is a clogged or blocked drain hose, which connects the dishwasher to the sink or garbage disposal.

First, disconnect the drain hose and check for any visible signs of blockage. If necessary, use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to help break down food residue and clear the hose.

Don’t forget to clean the fittings near the garbage disposal while the hose is disconnected to ensure there’s no remaining blockage.

Drain Pump Repairation

If clearing debris, obstructions, and disconnecting the drain hose didn’t solve the issue, the drain pump may be the culprit.

First, check the impeller, which is responsible for pushing water out of the dishwasher. It can become damaged or blocked by debris buildup. Remove any obstructions and inspect the impeller for any signs of damage, such as cracks or scraping.

If the impeller appears to be in good condition, test the drain pump using a multimeter to ensure it’s functioning properly.

To do this, you’ll need to disconnect the dishwasher pump from the power source, remove the hose clamp and hose, then test the electrical connections with your multimeter. If the multimeter indicates that the pump is faulty, consider a dishwasher pump replacement to resolve the drainage issue.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of your Bosch dishwasher not draining completely, whether it’s due to debris, blocked hoses, or a faulty drain pump.

Preventive Measures and Maintenance

Regular maintenance and preventive measures can help keep your Bosch dishwasher running smoothly and free from drainage issues. To ensure optimal performance, follow these simple steps:

  • Clean the filter regularly : The filter is responsible for trapping food debris and preventing it from entering the drain system. To clean it, remove the filter from the dishwasher’s bottom, rinse it under running water, and gently scrub it with a soft brush to remove any buildup. TechVill Appliance Repair Ltd. suggests cleaning the filter monthly, or more frequently if you notice slow drainage.
  • Check the garbage disposal : If your dishwasher is connected to a garbage disposal, double-check that the drain hose is correctly installed and clear of any obstructions. Unclog the hose or any related fittings in the garbage disposal if necessary, as advised by Fred’s Appliance Academy .
  • Inspect the pump cover : The pump cover is located at the bottom of your dishwasher and protects the drain pump from large debris. Remove the pump cover by turning it counterclockwise and lifting it out. Clean the pump cover with a soft brush to remove any debris or buildup.
  • Remove food debris : Before loading your dishwasher, scrape off any food particles from your dishes to reduce the chances of clogging the drain system.
  • Perform periodic cleaning with vinegar and baking soda : Pour one cup of white vinegar into the bottom of your dishwasher and run it on a normal cycle, followed by another cycle with one cup of baking soda sprinkled at the bottom. This will help to break down any grease or mineral deposits that can cause drainage issues.
  • Regular maintenance : Schedule regular maintenance checks from a professional technician to keep your dishwasher in optimal working condition. They can catch potential issues early on and prevent drainage problems from occurring.

By following these preventive measures and maintaining a regular cleaning schedule, you can ensure that your Bosch dishwasher remains free of drainage issues and operates efficiently for years to come.

Before going into the details, check out the following table, which provides quick fixes to the most common issues with Bosch dishwashers.

Bosch dishwashers are engineered to be more sustainable. But, sometimes, the Bosch dishwasher fills up with clean water by itself when it should be empty.

In the Bosch dishwasher, you can find the water level sensor in the bottom left corner of the door.

If this sensor is wet and dirty , there will be a problem with the dishwasher filling up clean water. Cleaning this sensor will solve this problem .

There are many different reasons why buttons on bosch dishwashers might not work.

One of the most common reasons is that a foreign object might be blocking the button sensors.

You can fix this problem by removing the object and then restarting the machine.

If the top buttons on your dishwasher are not working, there is a good chance that the selector knob has gone bad, and you need to replace it.

This problem usually lies in a clogged hose or dirty pump filter, which is a common issue.

This is due to a defective drain pump. You can troubleshoot it by cleaning the pump filter and checking the drain hose for any blockages.

Bosch dishwashers come equipped with various flashing indicators to alert users to potential problems that may need to be addressed.

The flashing light on Bosch dishwashers could be a sign of a serious issue, and you should look into it.

Flashing or blinking lights on Bosch dishwashers are usually signs of an issue with either water flow or electrical power .

The first thing you should do is clean the filter because this can indicate that there is a clog in the drainpipe. You can also try resetting the dishwasher.

To reset , you can press and hold for 10 to 15 seconds all of the buttons on top of the appliance, then press.

Many people find that their Bosch dishwasher drains slowly when they open it. The reason for this might be the water level in the dishwasher.

Dishwashers should always be filled with water before running them. But the water does not always have to be all the way up to the top of the machine.

The solution to this problem is to clean out any food that may have been left in your drain.

Make sure there are no kinks or cracks in your drain hose. If you are still having problems, you may need a dishwasher repairman who can figure out what is wrong and fix it for you.

Repairing Bosch Dishwasher

A dishwasher machine uses a motor to turn a pump that moves water and detergent through the machine.

Sometimes, these motors can break, or bad wiring can also cause damage.

Such problems can cause the dishwasher not to start at all. In this case, you need to call the Bosch help center to properly repair your appliance.

Also, a dishwasher with a faulty door switch or power outlet will not start. Fixing these two components will usually solve the problem.

The most common reason for water not filling up in a dishwasher is that the hose is kinked or blocked.

This can happen when you have higher water pressure, and it pushes the hose out of place.

The solution to this problem is checking your hoses and making sure they are not kinked or blocked .

If they are, then try to find a way to move them out of the way so that the water pressure is not forcing them.

Dishwashers are a convenient and time-saving appliance. But they can also be a source of frustration if they are not working properly or making noise.

There are many reasons why a dishwasher would make noise. Some are minor, and some are major.

Suppose your dishwasher is making a humming or rattling noise. In that case, it could be because the water inlet valve might need replacement or repair .

Usually, dishwashers make noise when they are in use. However, the following factors can cause unnecessary noise:

  • The water is too hot.
  • A load of dishes is unbalanced.
  • There is a leaky seal on the door (the rubber seal that goes around the edge of the door).
  • A bad motor bearing or axle on the motor shaft causes a metal-on-metal vibration when it spins.
  • The filter screen at the bottom of the dishwasher has been clogged with food or other debris and needs to be cleaned out.
  • Faulty insulation between components, such as thermal insulation material preventing heat from escaping from one part to another, leads to higher-than-normal operating temperatures in one area and lower-than-optimal performance in the other.

Sometimes, the Bosch dishwasher is not drying dishes because the water is not getting hot enough .

You can solve this problem by adjusting the water temperature to a higher level.

Bosch Dishwasher not drying dishes

There are a few reasons why your dishwasher is not drying the dishes. The first reason is that the dishwasher may not be clean .

When a dishwasher is not clean, it can cause dishes to stick to the bottom and not dry off.

If this is the issue, you need to clean the dishwasher properly, and in this way, you can fix this problem.

Another reason for this issue is that the water may not be hot enough .

When the water temperature falls below 150 degrees Fahrenheit, it can’t remove grease or food from the dishes, as well as when it’s hotter.

If these problems persist, you may need to get your dishwasher repaired or replace it with a new one.

A dishwasher will leak from the motor area when there is a leak in the pump seal .

You can simply fix this issue with a screwdriver and some silicone sealant .

The dishwasher’s pump seal may also leak when there is a defective screw or when the sealant has dried out.

This can lead to a dishwasher that leaks from the motor area. However, you can fix this problem with some simple tools and materials.

Question: our Bosch (6 year old) dishwasher since being reinstalled after renovations the soap dispenser is not releasing properly and soap is caked into the dispenser every time we try another load, any logical reason for this?

Gerry Vancouver BC

Hello Gerry,

I hope you are doing well! The dispenser might be jammed. After the cycle, check to see whether there is detergent in the dispenser or on the tub’s bottom. When put on the bottom rack, tall things like baking sheets and cutting boards may obstruct the dispenser door.

Also, the dishwasher tablet won’t dissolve completely or at all if your appliance isn’t getting enough water or if the water pressure is too low. Make that the connection is not crushed, twisted, or kinked. Please schedule an engineer visit if you observe that your dishwasher is not filling with water.

Our Bosch dishwasher (model shu43c06uc) runs the wash cycle (both long wash and quick wash) and counts down the minutes to 1 minute left. At that time, it just continues to run and run. When I open the door, there is still soapy water in the dishwasher. I have to cancel the wash and let it drain the water. I then run the rinse and hold cycle to rinse the dishes. The rinse and hold cycle runs properly and shuts off after 9 minutes.

Check and clean your filters, unplug the hose and inspect it for kinks, bends, or blockages. You should also make sure there are no obstructions in the air vent near the sink. To make sure water flows through the system without interruption, replace any broken pieces.

The dishwasher won’t complete a cycle. It counts down to 1 minute and won’t stop or complete the setting. I’ve tried the auto, normlal and half load settings.

There might be several reasons for this. Water leaks: A damaged or malfunctioning dishwasher pump may spill water onto the electrical components, short-circuiting the fuse. Dishwasher parts that are broken: in addition to a broken pump, a broken heating element might short circuit the thermal fuse and stop your dishwasher. Also, inspect the door latch and tighten it if required.

I’m questioning our office dishwasher. SPE53UF52UC/42 When we run a load it does not release the soap. After the cycle runs the door si still closed with soap inside the dispenser. How can we fix it?

Hi Kathleen,

I hope you are doing great! It’s possible that not enough water will get to the soap throughout the cycle if the sprayer arm is blocked or not rotating properly. Dishwasher soap may not dissolve because there is not enough water present throughout the cycle.

water line sprung a leak after 4 years of use..replaced water line and one week later the water line is leaking again through small hole???

I hope you are doing great! You need to check the dishwasher filter first. If the filter is not routinely cleaned, food particles or other foreign items may accumulate and cause a leak in addition to impeding the proper cleaning of your dishes. Since your dishwasher is a bit old, you may also need to contact a repairperson to physically inspect the actual reason for the leakage.

The back panel of my Bosch dishwasher is always very wet upon the end of a full cycle (including the drying). Some water remains on the top of coffee cups also. I use jet dry and it still happens. Do you have a solution?

Hello Mary,

I hope you are doing wonderful today!

One of the most frequent causes of wet dishes in your Bosch dishwasher is overcrowding. There is not enough space for hot air to circulate and dry each item thoroughly when cups and plates are arranged too closely together.

The hot, steamy air produced during the rinse cycle is often released via a vent in dishwashers. The dishwasher will leave moisture on the dishes if the vent is not properly opened. Make sure the vent is working properly by checking it.

Hi- Our 8 year bosch dishwasher makes a growling sound about 1 second long several times on startup, then intermittently during the cycle. I cleaned the filter and the pump impeller looks clean and turns freely. Any help isvery much appreciated.

Is it common for the water left in the filter basin to be dirty?

My Bosch Dishwasher has begun not opening the soap dispenser door when I run a load of dishes, both express and normal settings. I do not know what to check?

My Bosch dishwasher has stopped washing dishes/glasses clean – teacups and hot chocolate cups in particular are as dirty when when they come out as when they went in, only hotter and drier…

Bosch dishwasher doesn’t continue to cycle through wash cycle Amount of time to finish stays the same. Not sure it would ever stop! I open the door to end the wash

Why does my Bosch dishwasher keep repeating its cycle? It can go for 6 hours???

A timer manages the cycles in your dishwasher. Everything is controlled from beginning to end, and the machine is switched on at the appropriate times for filling, heating, washing, rinsing, and drying. If your appliance won’t shut off, the timer motor may be broken.

Lights do not come on when I press on and start. However when the door is closed the motor comes on every 30 seconds runs for a minute, stops and repeats.

door will not click shut – or pops open when programme starts

Hi Antony, for this problem, you should contact with customer service and they will resolve this problem easily.

There is about a cup of water in the drain below the filter. I have cleaned the filter and the drain. This is a new dishwasher. Is there anything else I can do to solve this problem or is there supposed to be water left in the drain?

Hello June,

I hope you are doing great! The safety switch has detected water in the dishwasher’s base, according to an E15 error code. Your leak detection system is now active.

BOSCH DISHWASHER PURCHASED NOVEMBER, 2015 (TODAY IS JULY, 11, 2022). I HEARD A NOISE IN THE KITCHEN. LOUD HUMMING SOUND. PUT MY HAND ON THE OUTSIDE OF DISHWASHER AND FELT VIBRATION LIKE IT WAS WASHING DISHES. OPENED THE DOOR AND LOUD SOUND. IT WOULD STOP AND THEN START AGAIN. THE PANEL BOARD WAS NOT LIT AS THOUGH IT HAD NO POWER.I TRIED ALL BUTTONS AND NOTHING. TRIED TO RESET. NOTHING. HAD TO UNPLUG UNIT TO MAKE IT QUIT. THIS WAS A EXPENSIVE DISHWASHER TO BREAK AT 6 YEARS? I THINK THE CONTROL PANEL BOARD IS BROKEN. WORTH TO GET IT REPLACED OR GET NEW DISHWASHER?

Hello Caroline,

I hope you are having a lovely day! Simply press the Reset button for three to five seconds to restart a stalled wash cycle. On the control panel, locate the start button and push it for at least three seconds before releasing it with the door shut.

Hi, we have a fully integrated dishwasher Serie 6 SMV69M01GB. Since we purchased it in 2017 to open the door you push the door and it automatically opens but for some reason it’s stopped doing it, we have to pull the handle to open it. We’ve tried to reset it but was not successful. Is this a common complaint, can you please advise what to do next? Many thanks

My Bosch dishwasher won’t turn off, i have done all the recommend stages of holding button for 3 seconds to no avail,do not have a reset button on mine, also the humming noise sounds like it wants to fill up or empty, watched Video checked the pump nothing there. hoping you can help me thanks Noni

Why my dishwasher does open to allow air drying

Hello Florette,

When the temperature drops below 122°F, the door opens, enabling fresh air to flow within the dishwasher. Additionally, an internal fan turns on to keep moisture off of your surface.

Hi sir My bosch dishwacher cleans dishes normally but keeps clean water on dishes not dried. How can I fix this problem. Thank you

One of the most frequent causes of damp dishes in your Bosch dishwasher is overcrowding. There is not enough space for hot air to circulate and dry each item thoroughly when cups and plates are arranged too closely together.

I love my Bosch dishwasher! I Hit normal, sanitize, start…2:35 starts blinking. Light does not go on toward the floor. Dishwasher does not start. I have never had a problem and do the same thing each and every time. Any suggestions?

We’ve had our narrow dishwasher for years and have lost the manual: where does the rinse-aid liquid go?

Hi, my dishwasher doesn’t ‘clean’ the soap dispenser out like it used to. When I open up the door after it’s done, I find that the soap (I use the powder/granules) wasn’t dispensed and it’s like a hard cake.

What could be the problem please?

are water level sensors and/ or water inlet valves the same thing? I keep getting water in the bottom of the dishwasher after i do a load of dishes anywhere from a half day to a full day of a finished cycle. that fills up to the bottom of the door. (Bottom of dishwasher is dry after it is finished)

the reset button does not disable the “H” letter even after the reset operation wok. what is causing the problem?

My dishwasher starts then after a few minutes will start beeping and it says watertap. I cancel the cycle & restart it & it will finish. Why is it doing this? Thank for any help.

Water comes out of the door

The dushwashing soap pad us not dissolving. It gets stuck in the detergent tab tray. The dishes do not get clean.

My dishes and silverware coming out gritty and spots on them. The dishwasher is only one year old

The bottom of the door on my Bosch model #SHP7PT55UC/09 has a rubber piece attached to the bottom of the door and the base. That piece is torn, and another tube-like thing is falling out. I don’t know what the names of those pieces are, and they don’t seem to be in any diagrams I’ve looked at.

The water is not getting hot in my Bosch dishwasher so hence it’s not washing properly and not drying it say it has an E 09 fault on it but as yet I am unable to find anywhere that will lead me to the fault and how to fix it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

My dish washer will not start , push buttons, light at bottom comes on, then in 3-4 seconds light goes off

Dishwasher is turning on by itself. Could not turn it off. Had to hit circuit breaker.

I cannot change the buttons. Right now the ones that are red are Auto, Sanitize and Extra Shine.

HI WE HAVE A BOSCH DISHWASER MODEL SMS2HVW66G WHEN THE WASHER IS SWITCHED ON THE DISPLAY SHOWS A RED ASTERISK AND A ELONGATED S WITH ARROWS ON EACH END CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THESE MEAN.

Soap dispenser don’t always open. And soap ďont all devolve

E:15 showing up and tap and rinse aid. It’s making the draining sound n I cannot switch off

the dishwasher stops code E:01 comes on

Hello Paul,

An issue with the heating element is indicated by the Bosch Dishwasher Error Code “E01” in a dishwasher. The drain, wash, and heat circuits are typically driven by the Bosch dishwasher power module following instructions from the control module. These components may not operate properly if one of them fails.

I have a Bosch Silence Plus 46 dBA dishwasher that won’t start. The ‘Auto’ button blinks at me. The on/off button is the only one that appears to do anything. The ‘Start’ button does nada.

Problem: The dishwasher does not clean the dishes on the upper rack. It’s like the water doesn’t get to the upper sprayer.

Machine starts beeping a couple of seconds after washing cycle has started. The beeping could last for about 30 seconds, then stops, and the machine keeps on working. Sometimes after the machine has beeped for end of cycle, there can be water left in machine so never sure if dishes are properly washed. Help please

I hold the start button for 3 seconds but can’t get it to start the cycle?….

Dishes aren’t getting clean

Dishwasher makes sucking noise as if it’s trying to extract water when you turn it on and won’t start

Was half asleep and reached for the small bottle of blue dawn and started to fill the rinse container. How can I get the dawn blue liquid dish soap o ht of my Bosch dishwasher? Please help. Thank you.

Model SHEM3AY5*N buttons on front of door–when I turn it on it wants to stay on the 2:35 mode not the 1:30 cycle. Turnin it on & off nothing changes. Then “by chance” it will list the 1:35 but won’t start. I have tried to RESET it & the same keeps happening. I 1 time got it to go to the 1:35, it began, stopped, finally I got the settings down to 0.01 & it does nothing. EEK!!!!

The drawer for the tablet doesn’t completely empty and re open

After wash/dry cycle is complete, I find that the detergent tab is undissolved and resting in the top rack of the dishwasher.

My DW is stuck on hold position and I cannot get it to go onto any wash cycle….

Soap capsule does not dissolve completely and dishes are not clean in my Bosch dishwasher.

My dishwasher is making a noise and showing E15 which I think is to do with the water flow. The washer will not turn off and I cannot move it to get behind and tur the electric off. URGENT

Problem is when the wash program is selected, after a few seconds the drying light comes on.

The filters and hoses have been checked for blockages and kinks.

Hi Colette,

I hope you are doing great! This is normal. The drying cycle is usually longer than the washing cycle, and hence, the dryer light will come on after the drying cycle has been completed. You should check with the owner’s manual for your specific model, to find out how long the drying cycle needs to be.

Light indicates it needs salt but salt is full
