If you're connected to the internet and still receiving an "Internet connection required" message when trying to log in to ProSeries or Lacerte, use the steps below to resolve the issue.

Follow these steps to resolve the "Internet connection required" message:

  • Close the program that's generating the error message.
  • Type "Internet Options" in the Windows search box in the taskbar.
  • Select Internet Options .
  • Click the Advanced tab.
  • If it isn't checked, check the box and click Apply then OK .
  • Reopen the program and try logging in again.

Accessing the program without an internet connection:

The first time you log in while connected to the internet, the system caches your log in credentials on the computer. After that, you won't need to be connected to the internet to log in. The computer can be taken from client to client, allowing you to log in each time you need to access the program without internet. This only works if you've already done multi-factor authentication on the computer.

When you try to sign in without an internet connection, you'll receive the popup below. Click the Sign in offline button to continue.

1. The QuickBooks Company File has not been specified.

The QuickBooks sync requires that a company file be provided. This is to ensure that the sync will never connect to or synchronize data with an incorrect company file. To correct this issue, open the ‘QuickBooks’ tab of the ‘Integrations’ form (Setup -> My Company -> Information & Settings -> Integrations), click the ellipsis button to the right of the ‘Company File’ text box, and use the Open File Dialog to select the proper QuickBooks Company File.

2. QuickBooks never showed the ‘Authorize Integrated Application’ form.

The very first time you use the new QuickBooks sync, you will need to authorize the application. To do this, log into your QuickBooks company file as Administrator, then switch to Single User mode. Once in Admin, Single User Mode, open the open the ‘QuickBooks’ tab of the ‘Integrations’ form (Setup -> My Company -> Information & Settings -> Integrations). This should trigger the ‘Authorize Integrated Application’ form to display inside of QuickBooks. Now select either the ‘Allow when QuickBooks is Open’ or the ‘Allow even when QuickBooks is closed’ option, then click ‘Ok’.

3. The QuickBooks sync has been authorized, but will not connect.

This is usually caused either by an antivirus program blocking the sync, or from a corrupt installation of the QuickBooks XML Request Processor, which is a default part of the QuickBooks software. First, attempt to disable the antivirus software and make a connection attempt. If the attempt still fails, then you will need to repair the QuickBooks XML Request Processor. To do this, you must uninstall, then reinstall the newest version of QuickBooks that is installed on that system (NOT the version your company file uses). If you have QuickBooks 2012, 2013, and 2014 installed, and your company file is 2013, you still need to uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks 2014. Once you have reinstalled the newest version of QuickBooks, attempt to try to connect again, this time it should be successful.

4. The QuickBooks sync will not authorize, even in Admin Single User mode.

This issue is identical to the one above, and is usually caused either by an antivirus program blocking the sync, or from a corrupt installation of the QuickBooks XML Request Processor, which is a default part of the QuickBooks software. First, attempt to disable the antivirus software and make a connection attempt. If the attempt still fails, then you will need to repair the QuickBooks XML Request Processor. To do this, you must uninstall, then reinstall the newest version of QuickBooks that is installed on that system (NOT the version your company file uses). If you have QuickBooks 2012, 2013, and 2014 installed, and your company file is 2013, you still need to uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks 2014. Once you have reinstalled the newest version of QuickBooks, attempt to try to connect again, this time it should authorize properly.

5. The QuickBooks sync will sporadically fail to connect.

This issue is usually only encountered if the ‘Allow even if QuickBooks is not open’ option was selected when granting Office Tools Professional access to your QuickBooks file for the first time. If you used that option and QuickBooks required you to select a User for Office Tools Professional to ‘Connect As’, you will need to be sure that your staff never uses the user that was selected. If that user is already logged in elsewhere in your office, Office Tools Professional will not be allowed to connect to QuickBooks because the user is ‘Already Logged In’. To remedy this situation, you will need to either re-authorize Office Tools Professional in QuickBooks and selecting the ‘Allow only when QuickBooks is open’ option (by deleting the current authorization in Edit -> Preferences -> Integrated Applications, then opening the ‘Setup Default Items’ form from Setup -> QuickBooks -> Default Items), or by ensuring that the user you selected is never used outside of the Office Tools Professional QuickBooks Sync functionality.

Is AT&T down? Reports of nationwide outages may also be impacting Verizon and T-Mobile

Customers with cellular service through AT&T may be impacted by massive nationwide outages, which could also be impacting Verizon and T-Mobile users, according to Downdetector, a real-time outage monitoring website. 

T-Mobile claimed there were no outages this morning, according to a statement.

Customers are seeing SOS only where service bars usually appear on their devices. Here's what that means.

AT&T wireless service restored Thursday afternoon

AT&T said they have "restored wireless service to all our affected customers," according to a 2:10 p.m. CT network update on their website . "We sincerely apologize to them. Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future."  

What time did the AT&T outage happen? 

According to Downdetector , more than 30,000 outages were reported at 3:29 a.m. ET this morning. By 6:59 a.m. ET, there were up to 71,000 outages.

After AT&T customers hit by widespread outage, carrier says service has been restored

Customers of numerous U.S. cell service providers reported outages and other service problems early Thursday morning, according to the website  Downdetector.com , which tracks such reports. AT&T had the most by far, with tens of thousands of customers telling Downdetector they had no service.

Customers of T-Mobile, Verizon, UScellular and Consumer Cellular were also reporting issues, though far fewer. T-Mobile and Verizon told CBS News that their networks were operational, although some customers may be encountering problems when trying to reach people on another network.

The reports of AT&T outages appear to have started at around 4 a.m. EST, Downdetector said, then seemed to wane some two hours later, then picked up again and were about 60,000 at 11 a.m. EST.

But by 3:10 p.m. EST on Thursday AT&T  said  the problem had been resolved.

"We have restored wireless service to all our affected customers," AT&T said on its website. "We sincerely apologize to them. Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future."

Later Thursday night, the company attributed the outage to a software bug.

"Based on our initial review, we believe that today's outage was caused by the application and execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network, not a cyber attack," the company  said on its website . "We are continuing our assessment of today's outage to ensure we keep delivering the service that our customers deserve."

Officials: Don't call 911 to test your phone

Earlier in the day, some officials urged people not to call 911 to test whether their phone was working. 

"Many 911 centers in the state are getting flooded w/ calls from people trying to see if 911 works from their cellphone. Please do not do this," the Massachusetts State Police wrote on X, the former Twitter.

Likewise, Chicago's Office of Emergency Management & Communications had a similar message for local residents, noting that on X that people who actually need to get through to 911 should use a landline or find a friend or relative who uses a service other than AT&T and ask them to make the call.

Some municipalities experienced difficulties with 911 service.

The San Francisco Fire Department said in a post on X, "We are aware of an issue impacting AT&T wireless customers from making and receiving any phone calls (including to 911). We are actively engaged and monitoring this. The San Francisco 911 center is still operational."

In North Carolina, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said on X at 3:15 a.m. EST that it was "aware of a nationwide outage impacting AT&T cellphone customers this morning. Customers were briefly unable to contact 9-1-1. There are no disruptions to our call center's ability to receive 9-1-1 calls. Service should be returning shortly."

And in Florida, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office posted on X at 6:43 a.m. EST that, "Texts to 911 from affected AT&T users are now being received. If you have an emergency, and cannot dial out, send a text message to 911."

The transit system serving Philadelphia and its suburbs, SEPTA, said on X that, "Due to AT&T communication outages, some trains may reflect a delay, however all trains are operating on or close to schedule."

As of 8 a.m. ET on Thursday, Downdetector had more than 60,000 reports of service issues from AT&T customers. Most of the complaints were focused on problems with their mobile phones or wireless service. 

Outages were highest in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Louisville, Miami and San Antonio, according to Downdetector.

In a statement to CBS News, Verizon said its network was operating normally, although some customers experienced issues earlier Thursday when calling or texting people who use another carrier. It said that it was continuing to monitor the situation. 

A spokesperson for T-Mobile said it didn't experience an outage and that its network was operating normally.

"Downdetector is likely reflecting challenges our customers were having attempting to connect to users on other networks," the spokesperson said.

UScellular also told CBS News that its network was operating normally. 

"We are, however, aware of a disruption that could be impacting UScellular customers attempting to roam on or call customers of another carrier," it said in a statement.

How to turn on Wi-Fi calling

Even if you have no cellular service, you should be able to make phone calls using wireless internet access, which is what AT&T is recommending for its customers. 

To turn on Wi-Fi calling on an iPhone, go to "settings," then "phone" and next click on "Wi-Fi" calling. Apple says you may need to confirm or enter your address for emergency services. 

You'll see "Wi-Fi" in the status bar while you are looking at the control center, which means your phone will use the wireless internet service in your home or office to make calls. 

To turn on Wi-Fi calling on Android phones, Google says to open your phone app, then tap "more settings." Then tap "calls," and from there tap "Wi-Fi calling." If that's not an option on your phone, it means your carrier doesn't provide the option,  according  to Google.

What does SOS mean on my phone?

Some customers reported seeing an "SOS" message on their iPhones. 

This can happen when a cellular service isn't widely available, but your phone is letting you know that it will still work for emergency calls,  according  to Apple.

Happy Thursday! February is drawing to a close, the weather is getting slightly warmer in parts of the country, and AT&T experienced a massive outage that affected its cellular and internet services. It was a bit of a mess.

When did the AT&T outage start?

Is the at&t outage over, where was the at&t outage happening, were other cellular networks down.

How many people were without service? When was service restored? Here’s a quick recap of what you need to know.

At around 4 a.m. ET on Thursday, February 22, more than 32,000 outages were reported across AT&T’s network. Once 7 a.m. rolled around, that number jumped to over 50,000 people. Per the Down Detector website , there were nearly 75,000 outage reports just before 9:15 a.m. ET.

Thankfully, the AT&T outage has finally ended. At 11:15 a.m. ET, the company had restored “three-quarters” of its network. Then, at 3:10 p.m. ET, AT&T confirmed that it had “restored wireless service to all our affected customers.”

AT&T further said: “We sincerely apologize to them. Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future.”

Once again, looking at Down Detector, the areas most severely impacted by the AT&T outage appear to have been Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. There were also outage reports throughout the state of Florida, parts of Michigan, and New York.

In addition to the reports coming in on the Down Detector website, you can also use AT&T’s own outage map to see if there are any reported issues in your specific area.

Although AT&T experienced the worst of the issues, it wasn’t the only cellular carrier with ongoing outages. Cricket Wireless, a prepaid carrier that uses AT&T’s network, was also showing over 12,000 outage reports as of 9:15 a.m. ET. Verizon outage reports spiked at over 4,000 this morning, in addition to increasing outage reports for Consumer Cellular, T-Mobile, Boost Mobile, US Cellular, and Straight Talk.

In the case of Verizon and T-Mobile, specifically, both carriers have confirmed that their networks weren’t directly experiencing service outages and that reports on sites like Down Detector were likely a result of Verizon and T-Mobile users trying to call or text people on AT&T.
