Recently, he just bought a new row machine to see if he likes working out with it. So, pointing out that he’s more muscular than men half his age is always a great way to make him smile.

Men aren’t always just strong physically. Some men are stronger emotionally, and more so than moms.

Firstly, I thank you for giving me such a wonderful life. You nurtured me at every step of the way, giving me an excellent education, excellent advice, and a happy place to grow up into the man that I am today. I always wanted to thank you.

You always made me comfortable when I had to share confidential information, and you played video games with me when my friends did not accompany me. 16. A sorry letter from a faraway son

I have realized very late how important you were to building my life. I did not thank you enough back then. You are my first superhero, first role model, and first everything.

At times, I fought with you and was rude to you. I am extremely sorry for hurting you with my harsh words. Still, you never gave up on me and helped me in every possible way to send me to a foreign land to pursue my education.

Now, when I am living alone, I know what I am missing the most. It is you, Dad. I miss you every moment of my life and regret not being with you. Thank you for giving me the strength and wisdom to overcome hurdles and for being so patient with me.

I am coming very soon to hold your hands again and to give you a warm hug.

Your loving son, (name)

17. A letter remembering an incident

Do you remember the day we almost had a crash? I cannot forget that incident.

It was a chilly winter night, and we were heading home after you picked me from a party. The roads were blocked, you were going slow, and we were enjoying our favorite rock music. Suddenly, the car started gliding into the trees and the woods.

Within a fraction of seconds, you steered the car, and we escaped the ditch. Your presence of mind impresses me till date. You protected me without worrying about your hand that was twisted badly. That’s when I realized how special you are to me. And now I know how a father should be.

18. A sweet and warm letter

It is my humble plea to you, don’t be embarrassed at me as I’m writing this letter to share my feelings. I know we have a strong bond, and I can tell you anything. But I think these are a few feelings that I cannot express in person.

Even without telling you, you always know when something is wrong. Even with my smallest achievements, you are proud of me. Even when you have no money, you do your best to get me gifts. Even when you are busy, you call me to ask how I am.

How can you be soft and strong at the same time? Nobody can be a better father than you. I love you so much, Pa, and I miss you. Please visit me whenever you can.

Yours (name).

I am so grateful to have a blessed figure as my father. I admire you, Daddy, for everything. You have been an influential figure in my life. You have helped me set goals, and you guide me to achieve them. I appreciate your determination.

I look up to you, and I want to be like you. You have always taken the path less traveled, and I am totally inspired by that. I hope I also become a person like you—a humble person who can cook, fix anything, and be patient. Your intelligence and knowledge are what I am most proud of.

Your humor makes me laugh, and your protection makes me feel safe. Your love brings our family together. Not just me, but mom too loves you for being the father you are. Thank you for the shelter, food, education, and love you have given me.

You have always motivated me to do things that I thought I never could. Your family values will be transferred even to my children, and I promise you that. My children are also blessed to have a grandfather like you.

We all love you so much , (name and grandchildren’s names).

20. A letter from a traveler son

We went on adventures right from when I was little. Some were boring (just kidding!). They were the best adventures of my life. You used to take me in the car, without any plans, and we had so many special episodes. Back then, I did not know our unplanned destinations and trips would inspire me so much to explore different parts of the world.

It is you who guided me to do what I love the most. And now, all those traveling lessons have made me a professional traveler. I have seen so many beautiful countries and want to visit more. The next time I come home, I want you to come along with me. Yes, no plans, just hitting the road, like the old times.

See you soon, Love you (name)

21. Letter to a traveling dad from a six-year-old

I hope you are doing well. Mom says you are very busy at work and also that you are an achiever. I am very proud of you, Daddy!

I am also doing well at school. I have learned how to read and write some new words. Teachers give me stars every time I do well. I also made some new friends. We play soccer and video games together. They are all hilarious.

I am learning to do some chores at home. I help Mom do the dishes and laundry. I also take care of my new puppy. Her name is Fluffy. She is charming and playful. I am sure you will love her as much as I do. Here is a picture of her that I drew.

Daddy, I can’t wait to see you again. When are you coming home? I have a lot of things to tell you and lots to show you, too. I miss you, and I love you very much!

Yours lovingly, Your son (name)

Dad, you are so funny, and you always make me laugh. You teach me many things, from chess to biking and math. You help me with my homework and projects. You are so brave. You always protect me from the bad things in my dreams. I love how you hug me and play with me whenever you get home from work. You even listen to all my stories and recitations from school. I also love every weekend dad-daughter outing we have. I love going to the park, the zoo, the movies, and the ice cream shop with you. I love all my birthday gifts—books, toys, and clothes. Thank you for making me feel special, Dad.

You are my hero and my friend. I want to be like you when I grow up. Thank you for being the best dad ever! I hope you have a great day today. Happy Father’s Day!

I have made you a card and a cake. I hope you like them. I love you! Yours, (name)

23. A ‘get well soon’ letter to Dad

It pains me to see you so frail because I have always believed you to be unbreakable. I regret that you must endure such suffering. I also hope that you soon feel well. I constantly have you in my mind and my prayers.

You are the best dad in the whole world. You have always cared for and stood by me in good times and bad. You are my beacon of hope and the one I constantly admire. For someone so strong, brave, and healthy, I am sure you can overcome every hurdle you encounter, including this illness.

Dad, I miss your hearty laughter and strong hugs. I also miss the morning jogs and the impromptu guitar jam sessions. I am eager to see you back in action. I love you, Dad! Please take your medications as directed by your doctor. Consume a lot of water and eat a balanced diet.

I hope you get well soon, Dad. Since I can’t hug you in this fragile state, consider this letter my warmest hug to help you heal.

As you celebrate another year of life, I want to express how much you mean to me. You are the one who has shaped me into the person I am today. As a father, your knowledge and wisdom have always guided me on the right path. As a friend, you have always been my kindest confidant and non-judgemental partner-in-crime.

Father, you continue to inspire me every day, and I hope to be a similar father to my children someday. May this day be filled with joy and love, just like the happiness you bring to my life. Happy Birthday!

In times of doubt, you have always been my guiding light. During difficult times, your strength has been my refuge. You have shown me that one can overcome any obstacle with determination and a positive attitude. Your belief in me has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams.

On this day, I would like to return the favor. I recognize that you are finding it difficult to adjust to this shift, but I also know that no one else could handle it better. I understand you miss Mom. I grieve for her passing, too! Yet, as you frequently remind us, life must go on.

Dad, it’s time for you to go out and explore the world like you both have always planned on doing. Carry her in your heart, and she will be with you even while you are worlds apart. Dad, your presence in my life is a constant source of strength. And I think it is high time you became your source of inspiration.

With love and gratitude, (your name)

26. Letter to Dad from a soldier

Greetings father,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits. I received your letter, and I would like to tell you that I also miss you all. And thank you for your thoughtful gift. It reminded me of every childhood memory, from fishing to riding bikes and going on adventure trips every time you came home from the border.

Father, despite our distance, you have been my friend and hero. You are the reason I gained the inspiration to join the force. I am doing my best and giving my all towards serving our country and protecting our freedom. I have done well enough to earn myself an important mission. I might be out of reach for a while now, so before I depart, I would like to thank you for giving me the best life growing up and making me who I am. I have the strength and courage to carry out my duties well because of you.

Do convey my regards to Mom and my sisters and tell them I appreciate their efforts towards trying to send me the Christmas cake. It wasn’t successful, but I appreciate the effort nonetheless.

28. A letter of nostalgia

I write this letter as a way to revive some old memories. I was going through some old photographs today, and I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me. I saw pictures of us from when I was a kid. It brought back memories of all our vacations, birthday celebrations, and game days. It refreshed my brain with the times when we laughed and hugged.

Then, I saw pictures of your younger self, from when you had hair and a toothy grin and wore those funny clothes. I saw pictures of Mom from when she was alive. It made me recall how beautiful she was and how she loved us with all her heart. I also recalled how happy the two of you used to be and the infectious laughter that kept echoing around our house.

Those photographs made me feel happy, sad, proud, and nostalgic at the same time. I am flooded with memories of all the good times we had together and all the memories we made. It has filled me with gratitude for everything you have done and sacrificed for me. And I just want to say I hold you in great respect for being the best parent ever! I hope this letter brings you tears of joy and happy smiles.

I love you, Dad. Yours, (name)

You are the grandfather of a beautiful and healthy baby boy or girl. You have a new generation to love and cherish and a legacy to pass on.

32. A long-time pending apology letter

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter because there’s something from our past that has been weighing on my heart for a while now. I believe it’s high time I express my sincere apologies.

Do you remember that childhood prank I played on you? It was the one where I threw a lit match stick on a bunch of firecrackers. I had no idea my innocent intention to laugh would result in such a fright. The shock, anger, and fear in your eyes at the aftermath of it have continued to stay with me throughout the years. I know now that repairing the burnt pool deck must have cost you a lot. I deeply regret my thoughtlessness and the anxiety it must have caused you.

Dad, I want you to know I genuinely apologize for that prank. I have since learned that humor should never come at the expense of someone’s peace of mind. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for my immature actions.

With all my love and regret, (your name)

33. Letter down memory lane

I have lately been reminiscing about that unforgettable family vacation we had and decided to revisit the place. Seeing this place now, I wanted to share some of my favorite memories with you. Do you remember the excitement and anticipation that we felt as we packed up the car and set off on that road trip? The promise of new adventures with the family made it all the more special.

One memory that stands out as I feel the warmth of the sun on my face is when we went hiking. The view from the summit was stunning. The sense of accomplishment we felt after reaching the top still makes my heart sing. I also cannot forget the laughter and delicious meals we shared around the campfire. Those marshmallow roasting sessions and s’mores were pure joy.

But my favorite memory was simply spending evenings at the cabin, playing board games and telling stories. It was those moments of togetherness that made the trip so magical. Dad, that vacation holds a special place in my heart because it is the one time we connected on a deeper level. Thank you for being the reason I have such cherished moments. Looking forward to creating more beautiful memories with you in the future.

With love and gratitude, Your son

34. A letter to the dad who adopted you

I’m writing to express my deepest gratitude for adopting and raising me as your own. I know I wasn’t your biological child, but you never made me feel like anything less than yours. I recall asking you why you adopted me when I was little. You always told me it was because you wanted to give me a good home. I didn’t understand it then, but as I get older, I realized how much love and sacrifice it took to adopt me.

I haven’t always been the easiest child to raise, but you have always been patient and understanding. You have supported me through thick and thin and have always believed in me even when I didn’t. You have taught me so much about life, and I am grateful for everything you have done for me. I am so lucky to have you as my dad and my hero. I love you!

Love, Your child

35. Gratitude letter to a supportive dad

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering support during this tumultuous time. Losing my child was a profound and painful experience for me. Yet, your empathetic presence has been a tremendous source of strength. Thank you for offering me a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear, and a comforting embrace whenever I needed it most.

From the kind words to the countless tasks you took to ease my burden, your ability to provide the support I needed made all the difference. I want you to know that I am deeply grateful for your willingness to share in my sorrow. You are amazing!

Dad, I love you more than words can express. Your unwavering presence has been the crane that has lifted me out of the darkest days of my life. I will always cherish your love and the memories of your comforting embrace. With all my love and gratitude,

Your daughter

36. Letter of gratitude to dad from a queer child

I’m grateful to have you in my life. When I came out to you as queer, your love and support was surprising yet comforting. I know it wasn’t easy for you to hear, but you were so accepting of me. I recall the fear I had felt since the day I found out. I always worried that you would reject me or wouldn’t understand me. But this day, you told me you loved me no matter what when I finally gained the courage to come to you.

I’m so glad that I did. Your acceptance has made me feel self-confident and grateful. I now am more confident that I can always count on you. I also want to thank you for telling me to be proud of who I am and that it’s okay to be different. Your words have stuck with me, and they will significantly help me every time I doubt myself for my queerness.

I’m so lucky to have you as my dad. You’re the best! Thank you for everything.

37. A poetic letter

My Dearest Father,

You’re the chapter filled with laughter and love in the vast book of life. You are painted with hues of wisdom and strength. And as the days pass, I realize that you are the North Star that directs my journey.

Your words are like a soothing lullaby as they cradle me through the nights of uncertainty. Your laughter is the melody that fills every corner of my heart. Your advice is the compass that always points me in the right direction. Your warm embrace is my haven on the worst of days. And finally, your love is the balm that soothes my wounds. Father, you are my hero, confidant, greatest teacher, and best friend. You have been the foundation for my dreams and the wind beneath my wings. I adore you, and I cherish every moment we spend together.

Thank you for everything! Yours (name)

38. A hopeful letter

I know we’ve been estranged for a long time, but I’m hoping we can put the past behind us and start fresh. I sincerely wish for us to celebrate this forthcoming Father’s Day together.

I know I have made many mistakes and hurt you in ways I’m not proud of. But now, I am not the person I was when we last spoke. I have grown up a lot and rectified my erroneous ways. Father, I know that I can’t erase the past, so I am asking for the chance to prove myself to you.

I love and appreciate you very much for always being there for me, even when I didn’t deserve it. Father, I don’t know what the future holds, but I hope to start rebuilding our relationship. I wish we could be a part of each other’s lives again. Please accept my invitation and visit me. Maybe we could go out to dinner like we used to? Or we could just stay home and talk. Whatever you prefer! I miss you, and I just want to spend time with you.

39. Letter from a married daughter

You were my first superhero

And my knight in shining armor.

You taught me how to ride a bike

And showed me how to fly a kite

You held my hand when I was scared

And hugged me close when I was sad.

You have been the best teacher

And a great friend.

You praised me for my efforts and success

And corrected my flaws during failures.

You played games and puzzles with me

And made me laugh with your jokes.

You are the most loving father in my life,

One who has provided for me and supported me.

You filled my childhood with joy and wonder

And inspired me to follow my dreams.

Now, for all this and more, I am grateful!

I love you, Dad, and I miss you!

40. Letter to a Doctor dad

To the best doctor I know,

Dad, you are a man of great renown. Your skills and knowledge are unmatched, and your kindness is even more so. You’ve dedicated your life to helping people and significantly impacted many lives.

Dad, I am proud of you for everything you do. I know your job is often challenging, yet you always do it gracefully and with compassion. No matter what the hour, you are always there for your patients and inspire people with your never-ending dedication. Dad, thank you for everything you do. Happy Doctor’s Day!

With love, Your son

41. A letter of forgiveness

As I woke this morning, I realized I had been lugging around a load that needed to be put down. So, I am writing to tell you that I forgive you! I know your error wasn’t intentional, even though it cut too deeply into the folds of my heart.

I do not wish to lie to you; I was furious. I felt betrayed by you, and I couldn’t understand what pushed you to decide to leave us. Mother was devastated, and the whole family was in shock. But now that I think back, I realize you’re only human. You had had enough and had tolerated more than you could bear to take. You just decided to protect yourself and didn’t intend your self-preserving move to hurt me or the family this way.

I’m still unhappy about what happened, but I forgive you. I know it’s the only way to move forward in life. I love you, Dad. I always have and always will.

Respectfully yours, (name)

42. A letter reminiscing childhood

I suddenly wanted to write about my childhood memories with you while looking at my daughter. I remember that you would always take me to the park, even on days when you were exhausted from work. We would swing on the tires, slide down the tube, and hang around on the monkey bars. You would laugh with me and always have my back. You also taught me how to skate the board, tie my shoes, do my hair, and do my homework. You were always patient with me, even when I couldn’t get it right after several trials and threw tantrums to get things done.

You were always there for me, no matter what. You have been my guide, meteor, and biggest cheerleader. And yes, I will never forget the father-daughter dance at my wedding. You looked so handsome in your tux, and I felt like the luckiest girl in the world as we danced to our favorite song. I wish my daughter could have all these moments with her dad. Regretfully, she can’t. And neither can I anymore, considering you are too old to get out of bed!

I’m so grateful that you were there for me all this way. I love you, Dad. Thank you for everything.

Yours lovingly, (name)

43. A letter of sympathy

In this challenging time, I want to express my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your father. Losing a parent is an indescribable agony, and my heart aches for you. I never knew Grandpa beyond my youth, so I may never fully understand the depth of your bond with him. Yet, I know he played a significant role in shaping your life.

His enthusiasm for traveling the world, his love for adventures, and his historical wisdom have indeed left a mark on your life and, by extension, mine. It is only because of him that I now am an archeologist, and I will be eternally grateful to him for inspiring me.

During this time of grief, please know that you are not alone. Please know that I love you deeply, and I am here to support you through this painful life chapter. Lean on me and let us carry the burden of this grief together. Am sure he is smiling at us from above and wishing for us to find solace in his memories.

With love and sympathy, Your son

44. Letter of reflection

Dearest Father,

As I prepare to enter the phase of fatherhood, I find myself reflecting on your parenting style more in-depth. I have begun to realize your profound impact on my life. Father, your parenting style has always been a unique blend of love, guidance, and freedom. You had a knack for balancing discipline with understanding. You have given me the space to make and learn from my mistakes. You have never been quick to judge or criticize. You always take the time to listen to me and provide me with the guidance I need. You have always led by example and been the epitome of patience, responsibility, and compassion. Your ability to find joy in everyday life has warmed our home.

As I ponder this, I realize that I never really acknowledged the trust and independence you’ve granted me. Nor have I thanked you for the countless moments of genuine connection that we have had. Father, thank you for always being there, cheering me on, no matter what I set my mind to. Your belief in me has given me the confidence to chase my dreams. And your parenting style has instilled in me good values and principles. I am grateful for having a father like you.

With adoration and appreciation, Your daughter.

45. A poet’s love letter to dad

In honor of my loving father,

Dad, you are the golden thread running through my heart. And your love is waved into my life’s fabric from the start. In the symphony of my days, the sound of your laughter is a tune that leads me through life’s complex maze.

Like a light in the darkest night, your wisdom is comforting. My love for you is growing as time goes on, like an endless river that flows on.

You have served as my mentor, my compass, and my idol. And I will always feel comfortable confiding in your aisle. Your embrace is a haven in this vast world. I take comfort and pride in you for caring as much as possible.

So let me tell you, my loving father: I will always adore you. And my love grows like a bird’s feather.

With all my love, Your sweet poet

There are many things that you can say to your dad in a father’s day card to let him know how much you appreciate him.  Let him know what a vital role he plays in your life now and when you were younger.

Whether it’s helping you with homework, or being there during a tough time, you know he always put in the extra effort to be around for you.  These heartwarming things are what he wants to hear about today!

😃 I sat cross legged everyday, anxiously waiting for you to come through the door. The scent of dad and a light smell of cologne would cross my nose, and the memory alone brings me back home. Sending you all the love in the world today, I love you so much.  Happy father’s day.

😃 The bond between a father and daughter is special. Thank you for the best stories at bedtime, thank you for always having time for me, and thank you for the awesome memories.  I love you daddy.   You will always be my daddy and I am forever your daughter.

😃 You’ve always believed in my dreams. If I told you I wanted to fly, you would stood outside waiting to see what I had in mind. You never stomped on my ideas, instead you nurtured them. You are and always will be the best dad.  Happy father’s day.

😃 Daddy, not all superheroes wear capes. Some wear a hard hat or even a suit and tie, but you’re extra special because you have been there at every turn, almost waiting to pick up the pieces, and yet allowing me to find a way to fix myself. You showed me true strength and dependability. Because of you I’ve made it to the top of every ladder in this life. I love you.

😃 I’m so grateful to have you in my life, you are the best father I could have.  Happy father’s day.

😃 Happy fathers day to my favorite one of all.

What Can I Say About My Father?

😃 Dad, I remember one specific morning, mom wasn’t home. I came bounding down the steps at about 7 a.m. and you asked me what I wanted for breakfast. What does any kid want for breakfast? ICE CREAM! You gave me a wide eyed guilty look, slowly glanced around as if you were waiting for mom to pounce on you when the final verdict was decided, “Don’t tell your mother.” I’m so glad you’re in my life, happy father’s day..

😃 Remember when we flew to the moon? We had a picnic among the stars in the deep velvet night sky. For our next adventure, I was a scientist trying to find a cure for illness, when you made a small prick in your finger so I could experiment with my new microscope. No matter what adventure I wanted to go on, or what I wanted to be, you were always there to support me. Thanks Dad.

😃 One of the best things about having a dad is always having someone to look up to.  My father is the strongest, most hardworking person I know.  He’s taught me so much, and I’m grateful for everything he’s done for me.  He truly is the best father a son could ask for, happy father’s day dad.

😃 Happy father’s day to a great dad.

😃 My dad is the best.  He is always there for me when I need him and he’s always willing to help out.  He’s a great listener and always has time for me.  He is the champion of cooking grilled meat, and I’m hoping someday he will pass on his ribs recipe, right dad??  Above all, you are the best father a son could ask for.

😃 No-one has a better father than I do.  I love that you stay until I fall asleep, and that I always feel loved when I am around you.

Thank you for always allowing me to explore my independence.

Father's Day messages for Dad

What makes your dad the best? Well, he’s your dad, for starters, and that all by itself is pretty special. That’s why there are certain Father’s Day cards and certain Father’s Day messages that only work for him.

  • You’re the best, Dad. I love you!
  • I’m so proud to be your kid.
  • Ba Ba, I admire and respect all you do for our family. Thank you for everything.
  • Dad, you’re in all my favorite memories.
  • Dad, you’re still the one I think of first when I have a question about something or when I just need some support and good advice. Thank you for always being there for me.
  • Happy Father’s Day to the man who wore my extra tiara at my tea parties and still treats me like a princess.
  • Thank you for being there every day with just the love and guidance I’ve needed.
  • You’re my one and only dad, and I’ll always have a special place in my heart for you.
  • Having you for a father is the best gift I could ask for.
  • You made growing up fun.
  • Having a great dad is one of life’s biggest gifts. But having two great dads? I’m totally spoiled.
  • Dad, you’ve been constant support, love, and protection in my life. Plus, you’re my friend. Thank you.
  • Dad, you’ve got my back and that’s what keeps me stepping up to the challenges in life. Love you so much for that.
  • Just wanted to say that you’re one of my biggest role models—an amazing dad who loves and cares for his family in ways big and small.
  • You and Mom are still my favorite folks to hang out with. I love that.
  • I love that we can have a beer, wrestle with the meaning of life, and talk about anything—including religion and politics.
  • Now that I have kids, I realize how important your love has been in my life. I’m so grateful for you, now and always.
  • Daddy, thanks for the love, the cutting up, the keeping it real, the always being there. Thanks for being just the man you are.
  • Gracias, Papá, por tu amor y por todo lo que has hecho por mí.
  • Dad, you’re the example-setter, hugger, and hero that we’ll always need.
  • So glad we all share such fun times together, Pop.
  • We deeply admire the good man and wonderful father you are.
  • You’re the best, and we feel so lucky to have you!
  • We love how at home we feel at your house, how comfortable you are at our place, and the way the kids look forward to our visits with you.
  • Dad, how do you love our family like you do, make change in the community, and receive so much respect from everybody who knows you? Probably has something do with that big strong heart.
  • Thank you for the example you set and for your leadership in our family. We love you, Dad!
  • We could never hide how much we love you, Dad. Not even in a duck blind with camo on!
  • Pops, nobody can season the meat for the cookout like you. You’re good for our stomachs and our hearts.
  • Dad, from how to be the best person I can be to how to pick the right chair in the barbershop, you are my man, my friend, my example.
  • Eres el mejor padre que esta familia pudiera tener. Te queremos mucho.

Writing tip: If your relationship with your father is complicated, don’t feel obligated to make your message more complimentary or effusive than you feel. Instead, be warm and sincere in your message. Focus on what’s positive and true between you. Tell him you’re thinking of him. Or simply wish him a great day.

Funny Father's Day messages for Dad

Humor is the way to many a father’s heart. So if your card is for a dad who enjoys a good laugh, feel free to joke around in what you write to him.

  • Happy Father’s Day. Hope the beers are chilling and the grill is sizzling!
  • Happy “Golf to Your Heart’s Content” Day!
  • Happy Father’s Day to the man who put the fear of Dad into all my dates.
  • Sending you heartfelt appreciation on Father’s Day. It’s the least I can do considering all the gray hairs I’ve given you.
  • Thanks for teaching me all the best things I know…plus some other good stuff that I probably should have paid more attention to.
  • I hope all your wildest Father’s Day wishes come true—maybe even the one about staying awake through the whole afternoon of baseball on TV!
  • Today is all about you, Dad! Enjoy, because tomorrow it’s back to the rest of us.
  • I hope you get to waste some time in your favorite ways on Father’s Day. You deserve it!
  • Sending lots of love to the dad who did his best to keep me out of trouble…from the [son/daughter] who was really good at finding it!
  • Happy Father’s Day with love from your favorite kid. (Don’t worry—I won’t tell if you won’t.)
  • Thanks for all you’ve done for me, Dad. Obviously, I could never repay you, but I’ll happily chip in for pizza in your honor on Father’s Day or any day!
  • Happy Father’s Day, Daddy. We’ll just drop the grilled meat off at the door to your man cave.
  • ¡Hoy te has ganado disfrutar de este día por ser un papá tan genial!

Helpful Tip: Be sure to keep your humor good-natured, rather than mean-spirited. In general, the closer you are to the dad receiving your card, the funnier you can go with your written message.

  • Have I mentioned how much I enjoy your kids? Way to raise ’em right!
  • You’re a good dad and a good friend.
  • Remember when you used to swear you’d never own a minivan? Hahahahahahahahaha…

Father's Day messages for Someone Like a Father

If you’re very lucky, you have an uncle, godfather, or other caring man close to you who has been a unique mix of friend, family, mentor, and/or father figure to you through the years. Here are some things you might say to him on Father’s Day…

  • Thinking of you on Father’s Day, Uncle Mateo, and feeling so grateful that we’re family.
  • Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful godfather. My parents couldn’t have picked a better (or funnier!) man for the job.
  • You’ve always gone above and beyond to support me and celebrate important times in my life. That’s why I’m thinking of you with special gratitude on Father’s Day.
  • With love and thanks for an amazing man I’ll always look up to.
  • Tio, you’re the kind of man everyone needs in their lives.
  • Just wanted to recognize you on Father’s Day for being such a caring and positive influence in my life. I’m more grateful than you could ever know.
  • I hope it doesn’t come as a surprise that I’m thinking of you today. After all, you’ve cared about me almost like a father.
  • Don’t know where I’d be without your wisdom and guidance.
  • Having you in my life has made all the difference in the world to me.
  • Tenerte en mi vida ha traído mucha felicidad. Eres un hombre muy especial.

Helpful tip: Father’s Day is truly for all men who give of themselves with a father’s heart. Family relationship not required. Don’t hesitate to send a card and write a warm message to any man who has been a strong and caring influence in your life.

Father's Day messages when you can't be together

Some years, it’s just not possible to be there in person to celebrate all your favorite dads on Father’s Day. But you can use your written message to honor and appreciate them, whether they’re across the country or just across town.

  • Sending love and thanks across the miles to the best dad ever.
  • Thinking of all our fun Father’s Days on the lake and wishing I could be there enjoying this one along with you.
  • I miss being with you on Father’s Day, but I’m thinking about you and hoping you have a great day.
  • Happy Father’s Day! Wish I could be there helping you man the grill.
  • Happy Father’s Day from afar to an amazing dad. Miss you.
  • Popping open a cool one in your honor on Father’s Day. Cheers!
  • We may not be spending Father’s Day together, but luckily, we’re connected in a way that stretches across any distance. So grateful for that closeness…and for you.
  • Near or far, I’m always so thankful for the great dad you are.
  • I wish I could be there in person to remind you in person how much I love you, Dad.
  • Have a great Father’s Day. Looking forward to spending some time together when we visit next month!
  • Dad, whether I was living under your roof or in your heart, you’ve loved me just the same. That means the world to me.
  • Tal vez hoy no podamos celebrar juntos, pero quiero que sepas que te admiro mucho y que te deseo un muy feliz Día del Padre.

Helpful Tip: If being apart on Father’s Day is a sore subject, you don’t need to bring it up at all. Just focus on putting as much love and gratitude as you can into your message. Whatever your situation, a follow-up phone call, FaceTime or Zoom get-together is a great idea, too.

Father's Day messages for complicated relationships

It’s not at all unusual to be sending a Father’s Day card to a dad with whom you have a less-than-perfect relationship. When that’s the case, it can be tricky both choosing a card with the right message and figuring out what to say when you sign it. Luckily, there are things you can write that will feel meaningful to the man receiving your card while still remaining authentic to you and your feelings.

  • Enjoy your day: “I hope you get to spend today doing all the things you love most.”
  • Thinking of you: “Just wanted you to know you’re on my mind on Father’s Day.”
  • Honoring you: “Honoring you on Father’s Day, Dad, and hoping you have an especially happy one.”
  • You matter to me: “Father’s Day felt like a perfect chance to remind you that you’re someone important to me.”
  • Glad we’re family: “Dad, we may not always see eye to eye but, bottom line, we’re family, and we care about each other. That means a lot and so do you.”
  • Connected no matter what: “Even when things are complicated between us, I still care about you and feel grateful for the dad you are.”
  • You did your best: “I know life didn’t always make it easy for you to be the dad you wanted to be. But you did the best you could and, for that, I’ll always be thankful.”
  • Focus on good memories: “On Father’s Day, I’m thinking about you and remembering good times we’ve had together.”
  • Feel good today: “Hoping you spend Father’s Day feeling honored, appreciated and surrounded by caring.”
  • We’re a work in progress: “Our relationship keeps changing. We’re finding new ways to connect and understand each other. I like that, and I hope we keep finding ways to become closer.”
  • Honrándote: “Esperando que este Día del Padre te sientas honrado y apreciado.”

Helpful Tip: When all else fails, saying you’re thinking of him or a simple wish for a good day are usually safe bets, even in a pretty strained relationship. And those few words from you can help open the door to a better, closer relationship in the future.

good things to write about your dad

woman and father, what to write in a father's day card

Sometimes you’re at a loss for words.

Every family dynamic is different, and sometimes the state of our own family relationships changes from year to year, so celebrating holidays like Mother's or Father's Day doesn't look the same for everyone. With the latter coming quickly around the corner, many of us have begun making our plans and preparations for the big day to honor dear old dad — but when it comes to giving a card, how do you know what to write in a Father’s Day card to your dad?

There are all kinds of Father’s Day messages you can include in a card, ranging from sentimental and thoughtful to distant, depending on your relationship with your dad. Expressing some of what you feel to any relative can be complicated, and you might be wondering how to choose the right words for your particular relationship. So what are some things to write in a Father’s Day card?

Here, there's a curated a sentiment for nearly every kind of father-adult child relationship that you can put in a Father’s Day card , whether or not you’re pairing it with a gift . So whether you and your dad are BFFs, have been estranged, or fall somewhere in between, there’s an appropriate Father’s Day message something in this list for everyone. (And honestly, when all else fails, a simple "I love you" may be enough for the dad your life.)

You might choose to use the words verbatim, or take the general idea and put your own spin on it. Once you get started, you may get swept away penning elegant prose about your fondest childhood memories — or you might decide its best to keep it short and sweet, lest your list of grievances find their way to paper. You can take these words as a starting point, an ending point, or perhaps somewhere in the middle. Whatever you choose, what you write in your Father’s Day card will be just the right thing.

  • I hope this year has been a great one for you, and I hope we can spend some time this year getting to know each other a little better.

Get Well Soon Dad Messages

The most common way to send your get well wishes is in a card. Though simple, this is a small way to offer your support and kind words within a memorable card. You can choose a store-bought card or create your own, but always write a thoughtful message from the heart.

1. “Dad, I hope you feel better soon.”

Though this might be simple, it’s always better to keep it short and sweet. It’s not about quantity—it’s just about making sure you’re there for him when it matters most. This is a go-to message you can use whenever you’re not sure what to say.

2. “Hang in there, dad! You’ll feel better in no time.”

“Hang in there” is a casual way to encourage your dad to stay strong. Being sick isn’t ever easy. Knowing our loved ones are thinking of us is its own form of medicine.

3. “Dad, just take things one day at a time. Love always.”

When we’re not feeling well, brighter days feel far away. Offering encouragement by letting him know it’s okay to just take things one day at a time is a huge relief.

4. “Take it easy for a while. I know you like to take care of everyone else, but now it’s time for us to take care of you!”

Dads are known for always being the rock for everyone else. They’re there for all of life’s moments, big and small. Now it’s time to be there for him, whether that means sending a nice card or making a homemade meal.

5. “Sending all of my love and hugs as you recover, dad.”

Offering your own comfort and affection is sometimes the best thing you can do. Recovery takes time, and your support means the world to him.

Knowing what to say when someone’s sick is tricky, but you don’t have to do anything complicated. Even just sending a text or DM to your father goes a long way, so try one of these messages.

6. “Thinking of you, dad. Feel better!”

Again, sometimes it’s the simple things in life that matter the most. Just letting him know you’re thinking of him with a quick text makes him feel less alone.

7. “Sending good vibes your way.”

Good vibes are sometimes just what the doctor ordered. Send him some warmth and happy thoughts for his recovery.

8. “Hope you feel better soon, dad.”

Dads are so busy taking care of everyone else. Remind him that it’s okay to focus on himself first, and wish him well no matter what.

9. “I heard you’re not feeling well. Let’s schedule a call this week?”

Dads sometimes just want to hear from you. It’s not always possible for us to take time from our busy lives to check-in, so this is the perfect time to do just that. Send him a message asking to schedule a time and follow through.

10. “Is there anything you need, dad?”

Another great text or DM to send is whether he needs anything. This is especially true if he lives alone or might need an extra helping hand. You could send a gift, bring food, or just call on someone to check on him.

Funny "Get Well Soon, Dad" Messages

There’s a reason laughter is the best medicine. Not only does a funny ‘get well soon’ message take his mind off things for a while, but it reminds him that brighter days are ahead.

11. “Being sick is your body’s way of telling you you’re too awesome, and you need to slow down so we can all catch up!

Who doesn’t like to hear that they’re so strong and awesome? While it might not be scientifically proven, it does help to know that, even while sick, everyone’s just trying to play catch up.

12. “You once told me that duct tape fixes everything. Have you tried that?”

Dad’s love to use duct tape for just about anything. Why wouldn’t it work for his illness as well? This joke is made all the funnier when delivered with a fresh roll of duct tape.

13. “Sorry you’re actually sick on your sick day!”

It’s true that “sick days” aren’t always about being sick. Let’s face it—we all need a day off from time to time. When you’re forced to take an actual sick day, it’s quite the downer.

14. “You’re so great that even germs like you!”

Again, this pun might not be very scientific, but it’s still hilarious. If your dad got so sick, it’s because he’s just too likable.

15. “I won’t lie...I’m a bit jealous you’ll get so much time to binge-watch TV!”

One of the best parts of sick days is having unlimited TV time. Share some of your favorite TV recommendations with your dad, so he doesn’t have to wonder what to watch while he recovers.

While sending a ‘get well soon’ message to your dad might feel easier, it’s not always that simple when communicating with your father-in-law. Still, this is someone who plays an important role in your life. Your words carry a lot of meaning.

16. “I hope you’re back to your positive self soon!”

Let your father-in-law know that you miss his positive attitude with this kind of message. Though simple, it’s important to know your loved ones recognize these small things.

17. “We miss you at family dinners! Feel better soon.”

If your family gets together regularly, let your father-in-law know that you miss his company at these gatherings. This gives him something to look forward to during recovery.

18. “Let me know if you need anything. [Partner's name] and I are always here for you!”

Show him that you and your partner are always here for him if he needs anything at all. Better yet, offer to help or send something his way.

19. “[Partner’s name] is really lost without you! We hope you feel better soon.”

If your partner can’t find the right words to explain their sympathy on their own, offer a helping hand. It’s always appropriate for you to send messages together as a family, and this shows support from all sides.

20. “I know we don’t talk much, but I want you to know I’m thinking of you.”

Depending on your relationship with your father-in-law, you might feel a bit uncomfortable reaching out to him. This icebreaker lets him know that you’re thinking of him, even if you don’t usually send messages.

You can also post a quick recovery message for your father on social media. As social media becomes a bigger part of our lives, it’s no wonder this is used to send the most important messages in our lives.

21. “My thoughts and prayers are with you, dad.”

Thoughts and prayers carry a lot of weight when they come from the ones we love. When in doubt, pair your message with a short prayer or family photo.

22. “I miss you, dad! Get well soon.”

If you haven’t seen your dad in a while, let him know you miss him. This is one of the most powerful things you can say. Posting it on social media makes it even more special.

23. “I hope you bound back quickly. I can’t wait to see you soon!”

A speedy recovery is one of the best blessings you can wish on someone who’s feeling under the weather. When followed up with a reminder that you’ll see him soon, this is the perfect thing to say.

24. “This too shall pass, dad. I’ll be here, no matter what.”

Life is full of challenges and changes. Knowing that things are always adjusting and growing is a source of comfort in its own way. Sickness doesn’t last forever.

25. “Brighter days are ahead, dad. I love you!”

Together, you can help your father greet the brighter days in his future. Though it might seem like there’s nothing but darkness, sunlight always finds a way.

As a daughter, you have a special relationship with your dad. He’s one of your first teachers and role models, and you’re thankful for all he’s done for you. These “get well soon” messages come from a daughter’s heart.

26. “Dear Dad, it’s hard to see you so sick. Just know your daughter is missing you so much.”

If you’re struggling with missing your dad, it’s okay to let him know. Showing your true feelings is a source of strength, and it brings you closer together.

27. “Stay positive, Dad! I know you can get through those. Love, your favorite daughter.”

Sending a positive message can make all the difference. It’s hard to focus on the bright side when everything seems to be going wrong, but it can turn the whole situation around.

28. “Dad, I just wanted you to know that your loving daughters are always there for you. Wishing you all the love in the world!”

If you’re sending a message from multiple daughters, make sure it’s sent with love. This message is perfect for sending all the love and compassion you can think of without using too many words.

29. “Dearest Dad, I’m missing our happy times together. Though I can’t be there in person, get well soon! Your daughter is only a phone call away.”

Perfect if you can’t be there to support your dad in-person, this message reminds him that you’re always closer than he thinks. Being just a phone call or text away is like there is no distance at all.

30. “To my loving dad, I miss you so much. Your daughter is praying for a speedy recovery. I hope you feel better soon!”

Lastly, remind your dad that you know how much he loves you. Sometimes that’s what your dad needs to hear the most when he’s going through a difficult time. Though they might sound simple, words can be endlessly powerful.

"Get Well Soon, Dad" from a son

Sons also share a special bond with fathers. From early days playing catch to important life lessons, these small moments can’t be understated. If your dad is in need of some encouragement, now is the time to send one of these “get well soon, Dad” messages below.

31. “To my biggest hero, I’m wishing you a speedy and healthy recovery.”

If your dad is your hero, you’re not alone. Make sure he knows just how much he means to you with a message like this one.

32. “A father understands his son in a way nobody else can. Get well soon, Dad. I need you to feel your best!”

There’s an undeniable bond between a father and son that’s hard to put into words. If you’re lucky to have this type of relationship with your own dad, make it known. Speaking your truth is an act of bravery.

33. “Dear Dad, thank you for always being an amazing role model. I miss spending time with you, so now’s the time to get well soon. I’m always here for you!”

Dads are often the best role models. If your father was always there for you, now it’s your turn to be there for him in his time of recovery.

34. “To my awesome dad, wishing you the speediest recovery. I know you’ll be back to causing trouble soon!”

For the dad who’s always up to something, this message is sure to make him smile. Promising to encourage him on his latest shenanigans is a fun way to lift his spirits.

35. “Dad, I promise to go fishing with you this summer if you get well soon. I’ll be waiting!”

Lastly, this funny message reminds your dad of all the fun that lies ahead when he’s feeling more like himself. Though you might not always love your father-son fishing trips, you sure do appreciate the time together.

Not sure how to find the right words? Who said you had to start from scratch? These “get well soon, Dad’” quotes do the hard work for you. It’s always smart to borrow the right words from the experts, especially if they resonate with you on a deeper level.

36. “Isn’t it unnerving that doctors call what they do ‘practice’?” (George Carlin)

For the dad who always has a joke to make, this one is sure to make him laugh. George Carlin might be onto something with the language around doctors and their “practices.”

37. “Throughout history, ‘tender loving care’ has uniformly been recognized as a valuable element in healing.” (Larry Dossey)

Sure, medicine is important, but so is providing much-needed TLC. Don’t underestimate the power of just being there for your dad.

38. “A cheerful heart is good medicine.” (Proverbs)

Though this quote comes from the Bible, it’s applicable in all of life’s situations. If you’re positive and optimistic, good things come your way.

40. “There is one consolation in being sick; and that is the possibility that you may recover to a better state than you were ever in before.” (Henry David Thoreau)

Being sick is never fun, but resting is a part of life. When you give your body the chance to heal and recover, you might come back better than ever.

Poetry is the food of love, so why not share a meaningful poem to wish your dad well? We can all use the right words to make someone we love feel better. Though words aren’t always medicine, they have the power to do a world of good.

41. “Matisse, Too” by Alicia Ostriker

44. “Leaving the Hospital” by Anya Silver

13 Life Lessons Your Father Taught You That You Still Hold On To Today

Posted: May 30, 2023 | Last updated: November 20, 2023

With Father's Day quickly approaching, it’s a good time to think back to the life lessons our fathers have shared with us. Those they’ve taught us and those we’ve learned through their actions. Someone asked users in a popular online forum to share the life lessons their Dad taught them that they still hold onto....

Dealing With Tragedy

"Sometimes, when something tragic or heartbreaking happens, you never truly get over it or move on; you just learn to live with it," one person shared.

Another person agreed, adding, "Yes. Sometimes things don’t get easier, you just get stronger."

Acts of Kindness

"That small act of kindness you did for somebody may be remembered by them for many years, even if you don't realize it. We were visiting my Dad's hometown, and he saw an old friend there, and even though they hadn't seen each other in like 20-something years, the friend still remembered some of the things my dad did for him," someone said.

<p>A user said, "His exact words were "You should not drive faster than what you have sight for, you never know what’s around the corner, you have to be prepared, there could be a tractor taking up the entire road."</p>

Don't Drive Faster Than Where You Can See

A user said, "His exact words were "You should not drive faster than what you have sight for, you never know what’s around the corner, you have to be prepared, there could be a tractor taking up the entire road."

<p>"Manage your expectations for people. It can be that someone is lazy, someone is an asshole, or someone constantly breaks plans with you; whatever it is, start expecting it out of them rather than hoping or expecting them to be the way that you think they should be. It sucks that you have to do that, but in the end, if you expect more from them, you are going to be the only one that is disappointed," one person commented.</p>

Be the Defender

Someone replied, "You’re a big kid and will be a big man. Use your size and strength to help others and defend those smaller or weaker than you."

<p>Others were on the fence. One user remarked, “This one is really tough. You are willing to provide support which is great, but you’re avoiding what she’s actually asking for. She’s made it clear that it’s not about money but emotional support which she feels needs physical closeness to get.”</p> <p>What do you think? Should the OP have let her daughter move in with her? Is she being heartless by offering to pay for an apartment? What would you do in this scenario?</p> <p><em>This article was inspired by <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/12bpqco/aita_for_getting_my_daughter_an_apartment_vs/" rel="nofollow noopener">this thread</a> and does not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of <a href="https://centsandpurpose.com/is-she-wrong-for-getting-her-daughter-an-apartment/">Cents + Purpose</a> – photos for illustrative purposes only.</em></p>

Someone shared, "You’re not going to be perfect. You will make mistakes, and that’s OK. The best thing you can do is learn from them and become a better person tomorrow."

<p>“No one cares for your well-being at work. So don’t trust anyone when it comes to your job. Keep your comments to yourself and mind your business. People you think are your ride and die will throw you under the bus to keep their jobs.”</p> <p>“And you do the same if any information is shared with you. Do you think coworkers will help you with your bills if you get fired over something they did? Or vice versa?”</p>

Accomplishments

“There are wishbones, jawbones, and backbones – those who dream about doing things, those who talk about doing things, and those who accomplish things.” He always encouraged me to be the backbone," one user shared.

<p>A user said, "Once you're behind the wheel, you're never in a rush" Always something I remember to recognize is that I'm actually in control of a heavy-moving machine that can easily kill people. Far too many people forget that and get comfortable with driving."</p>

Don't Rush

A user said, "Once you're behind the wheel, you're never in a rush" Always something I remember to recognize is that I'm actually in control of a heavy-moving machine that can easily kill people. Far too many people forget that and get comfortable with driving."

<p>“Being myself,” one admitted. “I stopped trying to be something or someone I wasn’t. Instead, I wore clothing I liked, did things I liked, and acted as I wanted. Doing that attracted the type of person that matched me. So I started that, and a few months later, found a weird girl like me, and we have been together for eight years now (married for four).”</p>

Someone said, "Do everything with pride…even cleaning a floor or toilet…people see all your work, and it is your signature…this attention to detail has gotten me far."

<p>One user offers the tidbit, “Assuming good intent. This works when your partner is actually generally a good person/not trying to harm you intentionally. But assuming my partner didn’t intentionally forget something or do something to hurt me (and vice versa) makes open and kind communication easier.”</p>

Think Before You Speak

"My dad often told me as a kid "wait two seconds before opening your mouth" about conversations or saying something. That has saved me many times," one user commented.

<p>Just be sure you gather all pertinent information when doing so. Switching to a lower rate that is variable might mean you end up paying more in the long run than sticking with a so-so rate that is fixed. Just be sure to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/home/should-you-switch-electricity-suppliers-maybe--but-do-your-homework-first/2018/06/11/d0493df8-683a-11e8-9e38-24e693b38637_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.b392d0f0b3b4" rel="nofollow noopener">do your homework</a> and not switch hastily, resulting in even higher energy bills.</p>

Money Management

"Don't outlive your money. My dad sucked at being a dad, but he drilled this mentality into my head. I've been financially secure since my early 30s thanks to this (and a great career)," someone shared.

Be Adaptable

A user said, "When I was little, 6-8 years old, I think my Dad would always say, “If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”Years later, when I was about to start my career, he told me, “I’ve learned that some jobs just need to get done and out of the way. Save your time and effort for the important things. My lesson: Don’t be afraid to change your views when experience shows you differently."

<p>"Not through words but actions, he taught me that the right thing is often hard as hell and to help those who need it, regardless of who they are. When I’ve done things, like running off a tweaker who was attacking a woman in a parking lot to stopping to check a dead cat for a collar, I have looked back on them as behavior that I learned from his example. Growing up, he and I didn’t understand each other, and it’s only now that I’m older that I realize the impressions he left on me, and we get along well now," a user shared.</p> <p><em>Source: <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/AskMen/comments/13fklcd/what_life_lessons_that_your_father_taught_you_do/" rel="nofollow noopener">Reddit</a> – photos for illustrative purposes only.</em></p>
