Noun project add-in.

The Noun Project is an amazing site for vector icon graphics.

It is also a Microsoft add-in for PowerPoint. This is a web based add-in (vs. local machine install). In PowerPoint, go to the INSERT tab, and click the STORE button.

On the Store tab, search for NOUN PROJECT and install.

On the INSERT tab, the NOUN PROJECT button is available. Click to open the app pan and have instant access to over 1 million icons direct without leaving PowerPoint.

Everyone can access the free version, which are .PNG images, where each slide attribute the icon’s designer and icons are only added to a slide, they cannot be downloaded as separate art files. For TLC Creative we opted for the $40 annual subscription which does not need attribution, external art files can be downloaded and we can choose between SVG and PNG files every time we use. PowerPoint recently added its internal vector icon library (insert > icons), but if a presentation needs to expand beyond these, The Noun Project is something that can be found in many designers toolbox, and now it can be added directly in PowerPoint.

Using The Noun Project to Insert Icons in your PowerPoint Presentations

A few years back we introduced The Noun Project in our article about symbols for PowerPoint . The project itself is meant to use symbols as a visual language that can be used globally. Since its launch, the project has come a long way; with news symbols and integration for a wide range of applications including Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.

Installing The Noun Project App in PowerPoint

You can now download and install the app for The Noun Project from the Office Store to directly integrate it into PowerPoint. Alternatively, you can also use this app source link to install Icons by Noun Project add-in across all your PowerPoint products using your Microsoft ID.

Choose from Over 1 Million Icons

The app provides over 1 million high-quality icons from The Noun Project. Some icons are available for free, whereas a Pro account gives you access to all icons. Once added, you can use the app to directly search and add icons in your PowerPoint presentations.

Pick Color and Size of Icons

You can also pick a color for the selected icon before inserting it in your PowerPoint presentation. Other than a few default color options, you can define RGB values to pick a precise color. Moreover, you can also pick a custom size for the icon, ranging from 24px to 1000px. After the icon is added, you can drag to resize it and use it to design presentation slides along with other icons.

Below is an example of how you can use icons from The Noun Project app for PowerPoint to design your presentation slides. You can also use the icons the same way in Microsoft Word.

Other than Microsoft PowerPoint and Word, The Noun Project provides integration for Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Google Slides and Google Docs. There is also a separate app for Mac users.

The Noun Project Presentation Icons

The Tip: Noun Project

We can't think of a better resource for icons than The Noun Project . This LA-based company founded in 2011, has created one of the most comprehensive icon databases available out there.

Icons in platform are created by artists all over the world, who get paid each time their design is used. However, the real strength of Noun Project is that all icons are stored and shared on an SVG (vector) format.

Unlike traditional image files such as JPGs and PNGs, Vectors are infinitely scalable, and their color and properties can be changed at any time.

We have integrated The Noun Project into our Slidebean Create presentation software back in 2014, which allows our users to pull icons directly from their database into their presentations.

If you aren't working on Slidebean (we can't see why), you can also download their Windows and Mac OS Apps here .

The Bad: Apple's Scripted Excitement

Apple has become the standard for product launch keynotes. Companies like Samsung have unsuccessfully tried to build similar hype around the launch of their products.

Steve Jobs was a fantastic presenter. He owned the stage and delivered a compelling message while remaining calm and making it seem natural- which is pretty much the opposite of what we see today.

Apple trains their presenters to what I call 'scripted excitement'. Anyone speaking at an Apple event is apparently forced to finish every other sentence with a punchline like 'It's really great', or 'it's really fun'.

It's really annoying.

Not everyone has the capacity to 'improvise' an exciting presentation delivery, but completely memorizing your script is not a solution.

The Good: (Still) Fantastic Presentations

We can't complain about the quality of their slides, though. Apple's design has always been stellar and their visual aids don't fall behind.

Brand consistency is preserved across all the document (even with their guest speakers). Slides are clean and never overcrowded with information. All images are original (though we understand stock photos are sometimes necessary).
