Feast of the Presentation of the Lord 2022

Eucharistic Concelebration with the members of the Institutes of Consecrated life and the Societies of Apostolic Life

“The Spirit moves us to see God in the littleness and vulnerability of a baby, yet we  at times risk seeing our consecration only terms of results goals and success: we look for influence, for visibility, for numbers”. Pope Francis said this in his homily during Mass in Saint Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday afternoon, 2 February [2022], Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, and World Day of Consecrated Life…. The following is the English text of the Pope’s homily.

Two elderly people, Simeon and Anna, await in the Temple the fulfilment of the promise that God made to his people: the coming of the Messiah. Yet theirs is no passive expectation, it is full of movement. Let us look at what Simeon does. First,  he is moved  by the Spirit; then  he sees  salvation in the Child Jesus and finally  he takes him  into his arms (cf.  Lk  2:26-28). Let us simply consider these three actions and reflect on some important questions for us and in particular for the consecrated life.

First,  what moves us?  Simeon goes to the Temple, “moved by the spirit” (v. 27). The Holy Spirit is the protagonist in this scene. He makes Simeon’s heart burn with desire for God. He keeps expectation alive in his heart: He impels him to go to the Temple and he enables his eyes to recognize the Messiah, even in the guise of a poor little baby. That is what the Holy Spirit does: he enables us to discern God’s presence and activity not in great things, in outward appearances or shows of force, but in littleness and vulnerability. Think of the cross. There too we find littleness and vulnerability, but also something dramatic: the power of God. Those words “moved by the spirit” remind us of what ascetic theology calls “movements of the Spirit”: those movements of the soul that we recognize within ourselves and are called to test, in order to discern whether they come from the Holy Spirit or not. Be attentive to the interior movements of the Spirit.

We can also ask, who mostly moves  us ? Is it the Holy Spirit, or the spirit of this world? This a question that everyone, consecrated persons in particular, needs to ask. The Spirit moves us to see God in the littleness and vulnerability of a baby, yet we at times risk seeing our consecration only in terms of results, goals and success: we look for influence, for visibility, for numbers. This is a temptation. The Spirit, on the other hand, asks for none of this. He wants us to cultivate daily fidelity and to be attentive to the little things entrusted to our care. How touching is the fidelity shown by Simeon and Anna! Each day they go to the Temple, each day they keep watch and pray, even though time passes and nothing seems to happen. They live their lives in expectation, without discouragement or complaint, persevering in fidelity and nourishing the flame of hope that the Spirit has kindled in their hearts.

Brothers and sisters, we can ask, what moves  our days ? What is the love that makes us keep going? Is it the Holy Spirit, or the passion of the moment, or something else? How do we “move” in the Church and in society? Sometimes, even behind the appearance of good works, the canker of narcissism, or the need to stand out, can be concealed. In other cases, even as we go about doing many things, our religious communities can appear moved more by mechanical repetition – acting out of habit, just to keep busy – than by enthusiastic openness to the Holy Spirit. All of us would do well today to examine our interior motivations and discern our spiritual movements, so that the renewal of consecrated life may come about, first and foremost, from there.

A second question:  What do our eyes see?  Simeon, moved by the Spirit, sees and recognizes Christ. And he prays, saying: “My eyes have seen your salvation” (v. 30). This is the great miracle of faith: it opens eyes, transforms gazes, changes perspectives. As we know from Jesus’ many encounters in the Gospel, faith is born of the compassionate gaze with which God looks upon us, softening the hardness of our hearts, healing our wounds and giving us new eyes to look at ourselves and at our world. New ways to see ourselves, others and all the situations that we experience, even those that are most painful.  This gaze is not naïve but sapiential. A naïve gaze flees reality and refuses to see problems. A sapiential gaze, however, can “look within” and “see beyond”. It is a gaze that does not stop at appearances, but can enter into the very cracks of our weaknesses and failures, in order to discern God’s presence even there.

The eyes of the elderly Simeon, albeit dimmed by the years, see the Lord. They see salvation. What about us? Each of us can ask: what do our eyes see? What is our vision of consecrated life? The world often sees it as “a waste”: “look at that fine young person becoming a friar or a nun, what a waste! If at least they were ugly… but what a waste”! That is how we think. The world perhaps sees this as a relic of the past, something useless. But we, the Christian community, men and women religious, what do we see? Are our eyes turned only inward, yearning for something that no longer exists, or are we capable of a farsighted gaze of faith, one that looks both within and beyond? To have the wisdom to  look at things  – this is a gift of the Spirit – to look at things well, to see them in perspective, to grasp reality. I am greatly edified when I see older consecrated men and women whose eyes are bright, who continue to smile and in this way to give hope to the young. Let us think of all those times when we encountered such persons, and bless God for this. For their eyes are full of hope and openness to the future. And perhaps we would do well, in these days, to go make a visit to our elderly religious brothers and sisters, to see them, to talk with them, to ask questions, to hear what they are thinking. I consider this a good medicine.

Brothers and sisters, the Lord never fails to give us signs that invite us to cultivate  a renewed vision  of consecrated life. We need to do this, but in the light of the Holy Spirit and docile to his movements. We cannot pretend not to see these signs and go on as usual, doing the same old things, drifting back through inertia to the forms of the past, paralyzed by fear of change. I have said this over and over again: nowadays the temptation to go back, for security, out of fear, in order to preserve the faith or the charism of the founder… is a temptation. The temptation to go back and preserve “”traditions” with rigidity. Let’s get this into our head: rigidity is a perversion, and beneath every form of rigidity there are grave problems. Neither Simeon or Anna were rigid; no, they were free and had the joy of celebrating: Simeon by praising the Lord and prophesying with courage to the child’s mother. Anna, like a good old woman, kept saying: “Look at them!” “Look at this!” She spoke with joy, her eyes full of hope. None of the inertia of the past, no rigidity. Let us open our eyes: the Spirit is inviting us amid our crises – and crises there are –, our decreasing numbers – “Father, there are no vocations, now we will go to the ends of the earth to see if we can find one” – and our diminishing forces, to renew our lives and our communities. And how do we do this? He will show us the way. Let us open our hearts, with courage and without fear. Let us look at Simeon and Anna: although they were advanced in years, they did not spend their days mourning a past that never comes back, but instead embraced the future opening up before them. Brothers and sisters, let us not waste today by looking back at yesterday, or dreaming of a tomorrow that will never come; instead, let us place ourselves before the Lord in adoration and ask for eyes to see goodness and to discern the ways of God. The Lord will give them to us, if we ask him. With joy, with courage, without fear.

Finally, a third question:  what do we take into our own arms ? Simeon took Jesus into his arms (cf. v. 28). It is a touching scene, full of meaning and unique in the Gospels. God has placed his Son in our arms too, because embracing Jesus is the essential thing, the very heart of faith. Sometimes we risk losing our bearings, getting caught up in a thousand different things, obsessing about minor issues or plunging into new projects, yet the heart of everything is Christ, embracing him as the Lord of our lives.

When Simeon took Jesus into his arms, he spoke words of blessing, praise and wonder. And we, after so many years of consecrated life, have we lost the ability to be amazed? Do we still have this capacity? Let us examine ourselves on this, and if someone does not find it, let him or her ask the grace of amazement, amazement before the wonders that God is working in us, hidden, like those in the temple, when Simeon and Anna encountered Jesus. If consecrated men and women lack words that bless God and other people, if they lack joy, if their enthusiasm fails, if their fraternal life is only a chore, if amazement is lacking, that is not the fault of someone or something else. The real reason is that our arms no longer embrace Jesus. And when the arms of a consecrated man or woman do not embrace Jesus, they embrace a vacuum which they try to fill with other things, but it remains a vacuum. To take Jesus into our arms: this is the sign, the journey, the recipe for renewal. When we fail to take Jesus into our arms, our hearts fall prey to bitterness. It is sad to see religious who are bitter: closed up in complaining about things that never go right, in a rigidity that makes them inflexible, in attitudes of supposed superiority. They are always complaining about something: the superior, their brothers or sisters, the community, the food… They live for something to complain about. But we have to embrace Jesus in adoration and ask for eyes capable of seeing the goodness and discerning the ways of God. If we embrace Christ with open arms, we will also embrace others with trust and humility. Then conflicts will not escalate, disagreements will not divide, and the temptation to domineer and to offend the dignity of others will be overcome. So let us open our arms to Christ and to all our brothers and sisters. For that is where Jesus is.

Dear friends, today let us joyfully renew our consecration! Let us ask ourselves what “moves” our hearts and actions, what renewed vision we are being called to cultivate, and above all else, let us take Jesus into our arms. Even if at times we experience fatigue and weariness – this too happens – , let us do as Simeon and Anna did.  They awaited with patience the fidelity of the Lord and did not allow themselves to be robbed of the joy of the encounter with him. Let us advance to the joy of the encounter: this is beautiful! Let us put the Lord back in the centre, and press forward with joy. Amen.

Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

Lectionary: 524

Thus says the Lord GOD: Lo, I am sending my messenger             to prepare the way before me; And suddenly there will come to the temple             the Lord whom you seek, And the messenger of the covenant whom you desire.             Yes, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who will endure the day of his coming?             And who can stand when he appears? For he is like the refiner’s fire,             or like the fuller’s lye. He will sit refining and purifying silver,             and he will purify the sons of Levi, Refining them like gold or like silver             that they may offer due sacrifice to the Lord. Then the sacrifice of Judah and Jerusalem             will please the Lord,             as in the days of old, as in years gone by.

Responsorial Psalm

R.        (8)  Who is this king of glory?  It is the Lord! Lift up, O gates, your lintels;             reach up, you ancient portals,             that the king of glory may come in! R.         Who is this king of glory?  It is the Lord! Who is this king of glory?             The LORD, strong and mighty,             the LORD, mighty in battle. R.         Who is this king of glory?  It is the Lord! Lift up, O gates, your lintels;             reach up, you ancient portals,             that the king of glory may come in! R.         Who is this king of glory?  It is the Lord! Who is this king of glory?             The LORD of hosts; he is the king of glory. R.         Who is this king of glory?  It is the Lord!

Since the children share in blood and flesh, Jesus likewise shared in them, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the Devil, and free those who through fear of death had been subject to slavery all their life. Surely he did not help angels but rather the descendants of Abraham; therefore, he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God to expiate the sins of the people. Because he himself was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.

R.  Alleluia, alleluia. A light of revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel. R.  Alleluia, alleluia.

When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord , and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons , in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.  Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.  He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:             “Now, Master, you may let your servant go                          in peace, according to your word,             for my eyes have seen your salvation,                         which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples:             a light for revelation to the Gentiles,                         and glory for your people Israel.” The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted --and you yourself a sword will pierce-- so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him. OR When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord , and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons , in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.  Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. Top Presentation Design Trends of 2022, According to Creative Experts

Jordan Turner

Updated: December 14, 2021

Published: April 26, 2021

In early 2020, the world as we knew it was flipped upside down. Businesses were forced to pivot in the face of the pandemic, and as a result many companies adopted a remote work culture.

A woman using presentation design trends to create a compelling presentation

Remote work changed the way organizations and teams worked — and even how companies communicated to prospective customers and acquired new business. Employees leaned into virtual designs, presentations, and events to communicate both internally and externally.

The graphic design landscape, as a result, has changed dramatically over the past year.

Now, presentations need to work harder than ever to connect, engage, and inspire audiences into action. In fact, over 35 million PowerPoint presentations  are given each day to over 500 million audiences — but 79% of those audiences  believe most presentations they see are boring.

To help you crush your next presentation deck, we've rounded up the top presentation design trends of 2021, as predicted by creative industry experts and presentation power-users.

Here, learn from three creative experts from leading companies in the tech space on the four biggest presentation design trends that will emerge in 2021.

1. There will be increased empathy found in design.

Marissa Latshaw, Founder of Latshaw Marketing , says: "Impactful, inspiring design starts with empathy.

Empathy is one of the most powerful tools in the creative toolbox. The good news is that empathy — the ability to feel, understand, and respond to the feelings of others — is innate in us all. Our job as creators is to harness this empathy for better design, marketing, and storytelling.

Empathy boosts creativity. The empathy/creativity connection is strong — as shown in many studies over the past decade. One study asked participants to create and name a potato chip  product for pregnant women. Before beginning the task, half of the participants were told to envision how the consumer would feel  while eating the snack. The other half were asked to imagine what the consumer would think . An independent jury found the product concepts of the first, feelings-focused, empathy-activated group to be more original than the control group.

Empathy is also vital for inclusivity. More than ever, we want to communicate with others in a way that is genuinely inclusive. An empathetic approach ensures we understand the goals, needs, fears, and values of all the people we wish to engage (beyond just the way they relate to our brand or product). This is a call for us all to become proactive about inclusivity, and it starts with empathy.

Empathy creates connection. From in-home fitness giant Peloton to the new voice-based, social network Clubhouse , we are constantly finding new and innovative ways to connect with one another.

Both brands demonstrate empathy as they address the palpable and growing need for connection. They re-imagined how we work out and share conversations in a more socially-connected way.

Designing anything — from a presentation to an ad campaign — is no different. Each is an opportunity to reimagine and innovate how we engage and connect with the world.

Empathy helps us to stand out by standing in another's shoes. Creating one-of-a-kind, empathy-driven experiences ultimately brings us closer together and inspires action."

2. Designers will lean into radical simplicity.

Eliot Garcia Weisberg, Creative Director at Airbnb , talks to us about all things radical simplicity.

He says, "Despite its incredible power to connect us, teleconferencing stunts audience energy and empathy. Attention — already a fleeting resource — is further divided between the screens, speakers, slides, and sounds of the virtual landscape.

The feedback loop from audience to presenter is nearly dead. The impact of environmental design is lost. In our new world, the value of a single pixel on the cluttered screens of remote audiences is immense. And the screens themselves— their quality and colors— vary wildly from member to member.

The key to designing for the 'new normal' is embracing radical simplicity. A designer must reduce a slide to its core idea, then push to simplify even further. They musk ask themselves — 'Do I really need to show this?' Then challenge themselves every time the answer is 'Yes.'

Slide counts will be drastically reduced. Superfluous icons will fade away. Bullets will become a distant memory. Subtle textures will be replaced by solid colors. We'll see a shift away from image masks and bold text over photos. Instead, we'll see full-screen photographs or simple statements that make their point obvious and drive core concepts home.

We'll spend more time on the speaker— full screen— than ever before. Their delivery, from tone to inflection, will become a design element. Rehearsals will replace design reviews.

The end result will feel much more human. And, if successful, radically simple."

3. Great design will hold the viewers' attention.

"For decades, the job of creative designers, writers, and videographers was to get attention. Cut through the noise. Deliver ads that stand out. Use creativity as a hook," Adam Morgan, Adobe's  Executive Creative Director, says about holding an audience's attention.

He adds, "But in today's ultra-connected digital world, that hammer and nail approach isn't always the answer. People choose what they want. The trend I'm seeing today is to hold attention. Less push and more pull. We have to create experiences that provide real value to an individual — not just catch their attention with shock value or clickbait.

"We have to create communities where people want to consume our brand experiences. We have to know those individuals and groups, what they care about, and provide new information wrapped in an emotional blanket. We have to stand for things they value."

Rather than a hard sell, we have to share a story that they believe in and be open and transparent with why it matters to them.

What this means for creative teams is that you can't just make it pretty or funny. You have to think deeply about what your brand means to customers and then create immersive experiences that connect. It's no longer just about the creative craft of colors and fonts and icons. It's about stories and meaning and authenticity and purpose. Don't just get attention with your work. Hold  attention. So that you can build brands that grow and last."

4. Designers should use clean, minimalistic fonts and calming colors.

Lastly, we tapped into Beautiful.ai's Creative Director Anuja Kanani's expertise to unravel one more presentation design trend for 2021.

Kanani says, "Choosing the best colors for a presentation, and good presentation fonts, are two of the most important elements of deck design. Each design decision— shapes, words, and images— affect the way your audience feels about the presentation, but colors hold the most influence.

Taking the place of bold, bright primary colors, 2021 has warranted more relaxed, muted colors following the chaos of 2020. Not only are low-saturated and pastel colors more calming, they're more organic and natural, perhaps making audiences feel more at ease and confident in the presentation in front of them.

Using a consistent, complimentary color theme strategically can help position your brand in the mind of your customers," adds Kanani. She recommends limiting your presentation to 3-4 colors in your palette, with one accent color to highlight key points and bring balance and harmony to your presentation.

3 different color options that complement each other, all pastels (light blue, peach, and dark blue)

The trend of minimalism extends to good presentation fonts, too. Seasoned presenters are opting for clean minimal fonts, such as Open Sans or Jost, and rejecting traditional fonts like Arial or Times New Roman in 2021.

Kanani adds, "Custom typography improves your brand recognition, while selecting different weights or styles can help control the narrative on each slide."

Presentation Graphics

You've probably caught onto the fact that over-complicated slides are a thing of the past. Studies show  that 35% of millennials say they will only engage with content they feel has a great story or theme, so to avoid boring them into a snooze, use visuals to control your narrative.

Presentation graphics, or rich visuals, can help you paint a picture in bite-sized chunks so that your audience can digest the information you're presenting to them.

Kanani says, "Engaging, inspiring visuals in presentations make your content compelling, eye-catching, and helps convey your story beautifully."

Choosing rich icons, diagrams or infographics, and quality photos are powerful tools to help make your presentation more memorable and impactful.

8 Possible Presentation Design Trends 2022 We Need to Prepare

Ulfah Alifah

possible presentation design trends 2022

Table of Contents

When putting together an engaging presentation slide, there are two things we need to keep in mind: design and function. In other words, your slides look attractive, but they also need to give people information and ideas in the most user-friendly format possible.

A professionally designed PowerPoint template exploding with new design trends through customizable slides is the only way to achieve that.

Design trends can shape everything from how designers create user interface design to future websites to package design iterations. They can also zoom in or fade out quickly, making it essential to pay attention to what’s trending now so that you don’t end up with a design that falls out of style quickly.

All in all, before we settle into this brave new year, here are 8 possible presentation design trends that we predict in 2022 some of the best presentation templates to execute them.

What are the big presentation design trends that will pop up next year?

The 80s and 90s are returning, typography is taking a leading role, and dynamic gradients are ascending to new heights. Visual styles, meanwhile, run the scale from psychedelic high-tech to whimsically handcrafted.

Three-Dimensional Design Elements

While 2020 and 2021 saw lots of designers tackling full, three-dimensional designs for any design project, the emerging trend is to incorporate elements of 3D with a flatter overall aesthetic.

Three-dimensional elements can help provide extra understanding for a design, such as the architectural rendering above, or enhance visual interest.

Think about how to capture your story or product in a way that highlights the depths of the field and shadows.

Memphis Design

Memphis design—one of the defining aesthetics of the 1980s—is sometimes thought of as a flashy style, pairing many chaotic patterns and shapes together.

This attitude rings especially true today when minimalistic approaches have led to a sea of interfaces that (while intuitive) are overwhelmingly uniform.

It is no wonder why many presentation designers are turning to Memphis design for an explosion of colorful personalities no visitor will soon forget.

Typography as the central figure.

In 2022, there’s no wrong way to do typography. Big, bold fonts — even serifs — are everywhere. And they look fantastic.

When playing with this presentation design trend, think about how the typefaces will respond (everything looks different on a mobile screen) and maximize impact for visitors.

From outlines to color fonts to shifting shapes and fills, bold and experimental type options dominate presentation designs.

The design of those presentation templates uses multiple type effects on the homepage that exemplify this trend: Mix and match characters within the main headline, a somewhat experimental font choice, and colored fill layers with images and backgrounds.

Minimalism is still a noteworthy style as the possible presentation design trends 2022.

Minimal presentation design is always in fashion because it’s a surefire way of showing information clearly and concisely.

In its most simple terms, Neumorphism is a minimalist approach that’s all about giving buttons, switches, and other design elements a real-life 3D look and feel, which has made it wildly popular among app developers.

presentation of 2022

Did you know that the Neumorphism style is also popular in the presentation design world?

Muted earth tone.

We strode out into the great outdoors with indoor spaces closed down, whether for a hike up a mountain or a stroll around the local park. And this renewed relationship with our environment is influencing contemporary presentation design too.

Lockdown life may have restricted our options, but it also reintroduced many of us to nature.

Up and down the presentation agency, we’re seeing designers choose muted, calm, and earth tones in terms of background colors and illustrations.

This is a modest approach to design. It is also easier to look at and doesn’t strain our eyes too much. If you’re hoping to increase the time audiences stick around on your slides, you could do far worse than follow it.

That’s a philosophy that’s right in the wheelhouse of LA digital agency  Signature Creative , who create ‘digital products & design for the people of Earth’ and describe themselves as ‘Good people making great things. Their design combines muted earthy colors with clear, easy-to-read typography and a restrained layout that incorporates calming white space.

Glassmorphism.

The first hints of glassmorphism started with neomorphic in late 2020 and early 2021 and evolved into the full glass effect that’s popular now.

Glassmorphism is just what you might think: Design elements that have a look that’s reminiscent of glass.

Designers have played with this one of the possible presentation design trends 2022 in a major way on Dribbble.

Dynamic Gradients

Colorful gradients will be a comeback in 2022, and it looks like they’re here to stay! Gradients are the gradual transition from one color to another, creating a blended effect. So, what makes them so awesome? Firstly, they add a vibrant pop of color to your design in a way that doesn’t feel overbearing. They’re also a great way to add extra visual depth to your presentation design, as they create a dynamic, almost multi-dimensional effect.

The designer has artfully blended three different colors to create an eye-catching aesthetic that personifies the brand’s fun, modern qualities.

The beauty of this design trend is how versatile it is. You can create gradients using similar colors such as blue or yellow or create unexpected combinations using contrasting shades like purple and orange.

No matter how you want to play with gradients, these PowerPoint templates are a great place to start. You can easily swap out the colors, fonts, and images with your own to create a design that is unique to your brand.

Retro Revolution/Retro

As the beginning of the World Wide Web increasingly becomes a distant memory, today’s up-and-coming designers are taking inspiration from those early Wild West days. Web 1.0 of the 90s was characterized by bright background colors, visual table layouts, and robotic typefaces like Courier.

While the 90s internet was a showcase of unnecessary gimmicks, graphics, and colors, it was also a time when the rules had not yet been written—when “a web designer” wasn’t even a job.

The designers that have come up since—reigned in by industry standards—now see those early days as a hotbed for the free creativity of all graphic designers, especially for presentation designers nowadays.

So, what are the possible presentation design trends 2022?

The possible presentation design trends 2022 describe another step forward, but that’s nothing fresh on the internet. The future drives quickly in our current era, and digital designers often spread the way. But what makes these trends feel refreshing is their focus on creating satisfaction.

Whether they are bringing back a forgotten decade, delighting the user with interactions and animations, or offering up something handmade, the goal of this year’s presentation design trends is to tell a momentary sense of astonishment. No matter how unconventional their approach.

Best presentation software of 2024

Make perfect slides for speeches and talks

Best overall

Best for branding, best for marketing, best for themes, best for media, best unique.

  • How we test

The best presentation software makes it simple and easy to create, manage, and share slideshow presentations.

1. Best overall 2. Best for branding 3. Best for marketing 4. Best for themes 5. Best for media 6. Best unique 7. FAQs 8. How we test

Presentation software runs at the heart of business sales, management, and development, so it's important to ensure you have the best presentation software for your needs. This is especially when looking to share ideas, concepts, and workflows, and the ability to present these in a simple and understandable way is essential.

However, while presentation software has been traditionally limited to text and images, it has widened its ability to work with different media such as video and audio .

Therefore it's important for the best presentation software to not simply be easy and simple to use, but also be able to support additional media so that presentations can be more engaging, lively, and ultimately serve their purpose in educating and updating their intended audience.

Below we've listed the best presentation software currently on the market.

We've also listed the best free presentation software .

The best office software in the world is: Microsoft 365

The best office software in the world is: Microsoft 365 There are many different office software suites out there, but Microsoft Office remains the original and best, offering an unsurpassed range of features and functionality that rivals just can't match.

Even better, Microsoft 365 - previously branded as Office 365 - is a cloud-based solution which means you can use it on any computer, mobile device, or smartphone, without having to worry about compatibility. All your files are saved in the cloud and synced between devices, so you can begin work on a document at home or in the office, then continue working on it on the go.

You can sign up to Microsoft 365 here .

1. PowerPoint

Our expert review:

Reasons to buy

For most people, Microsoft 's PowerPoint remains the original and best of all the presentation software platforms out there. While other companies have managed to catch up and offer rival products worthy of consideration, the fact is that PowerPoint's familiar interface and ubiquitous availability means it remains a favorite for the majority of people.

On the one hand, it's long been a staple of the hugely popular Microsoft Office suite, meaning that for most users this is going to be the first - and last - presentation software they are going to need to use.

Additionally, Microsoft has made PowerPoint, along with their other office products, available as free apps (with limited functionality) on both iOS and Android for mobile use, meaning it's even harder to avoid them. And this is before we even consider the inclusion of PowerPoint in Microsoft's cloud-based Microsoft 365.

It does everything necessary that you'd expect of presentation software, allowing you to add text and media to a series of slides, to accompany a talk and other presentations. There are easy-to-use templates included to help spice things up a little, but even a general user with little experience of it is likely to find themselves able to use PowerPoint without much trouble at all.

Overall, it's hard to go wrong with PowerPoint, and although Microsoft 365 has a nominal cost, the apps are free to use even if they do have more limited functionality.

2. CustomShow

Reasons to avoid.

Branding says a lot about a business, and it’s something firms need to get right from day one – from a good logo to a suitable font. CustomShow is business presentation software that puts all these elements of branding first.

Using the system, you can design and present customized, branded presentations that reflect your company and the products you offer, featuring the aforementioned logo and custom fonts. As well as this, you get a slide library and analytics to ensure your presentations are a success.

What’s more, you can import presentations into the software, and use it to tweak them further. There’s also integration with SalesForce , and because the platform is cloud-based, you can access your presentations on computers, tablets, and smartphones.

Considering the focus on branding, this offering could be good for marketing and sales teams, and it's used by major companies such as HBO and CBS Interactive.

3. ClearSlide

Just like CustomShow, ClearSlide has a niche focus for companies. The platform is targeted at firms looking to generate successful marketing campaigns, pushing sales via presentations (and more), not least through a range of analytics and metrics to work for sales and marketing.

With the product, you can upload a range of files, including PowerPoint, Keynote, PDF, and Excel. ClearSlide is integrated with other platforms, including Google Drive, Dropbox, and Salesforce.

This system is pretty complex and may offer too many irrelevant features for some businesses, but you can create customized content that reflects your company and the message you’re trying to get out to customers. There are also some good metrics and analysis features, and you can sign up for a free trial before making any decisions.

The real strength of ClearSlide comes from its focus on sales and marketing data, not least being able to track user engagement alongside other metrics.

4. Haiku Deck

Any presentation app will allow you to personalize your slides to at least some extent, but Haiku Deck goes one step further than the competition. It comes with a wide range of themes suited to different needs, and you also get access to 40 million free images from the Creative Commons collection.

When it comes to creating a presentation, you have the option to do so on the web, which means your presentation is accessible across a range of mobile devices as well as desktops. Regardless of the device used, you’re able to select from a variety of different fonts, layouts, and filters to make the perfect presentation.

The great thing about these various customization options is that they’re categorized into different industries and use cases. For instance, you’ll find themes for teaching, cooking, real estate, and startups. Most of the features require you to be online, but hopefully, you’ll have a sturdy net connection wherever you go.

5. SlideDog

It’s all too easy to end up creating a presentation that’s unappealing, and the last thing you want to do is make the audience fall asleep. SlideDog lets you combine almost any type of media to create a rich presentation that’s sure to keep the viewers’ peepers open, avoiding the ‘cookie cutter’ look that makes presentations seem dull.

Marketed as a web-based multimedia presentation tool, it gives you the ability to combine PowerPoint presentations, graphics, PDF files, Prezi presentations, web pages, pictures, videos, and movie clips. You can drag these into custom playlists and display them to your audience with ease.

You’re able to remotely control your presentations and playlists from your smartphone, the web, or a secondary computer, and there’s also the option to share slides in real-time. Audience members can even view your slide from their own devices by clicking a link. That’s a handy feature if you’re looking to create an immersive presentation experience.

SlideDog is probably the cheapest of the presentation software featured, with a free account that will cover the essential features. However, for live sharing and premium support, you need to upgrade.

Prezi is one of the more unique presentation tools. Instead of presenting your graphics and text in a slide-to-slide format, you can create highly visual and interactive presentation canvases with the goal of “emphasizing the relationship between the ideas”.

Presentations can also be tailored to the specific audience, as this is a flexible platform that’s capable of skipping ahead, or veering off into a side topic, without having to flip through all the slides to get to a particular bit.

For business users, there are a variety of handy tools available. By downloading Prezi , you can build and edit presentations with your colleagues in real-time, which is perfect for companies with teams based around the globe.

When you have created a presentation you’re happy with, you can present it live (in HD) and send a direct link to viewers. There are some analysis tools here, too – you can see who’s accessed your presentation, which parts of it, and for how long. The app is available for Mac and Windows devices.

Other presentation software to consider

Google Slides  is part of the Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) office platform intended as an online alternative to Microsoft Office. It may seem a little limited by comparison to PowerPoint, but as it's browser-based that means cross-platform compatibility. Additionally, it allows for collaborative work, and Google Slides really works well here. On top of the fact that it integrates with the rest of the Google Workspace apps, not least Google Drive, and you have a contender.

Zoho Show  is another of the many, many tools and apps that Zoho has made available for business use. It also operates in the cloud so it's accessible to any device with a browser, and it also allows for collaborative work. You can also easily share the link for users to download, or provide a live presentation online. The updated version has a simpler and easier to use interface and comes with a free version and a paid-for one with expanded features.

Evernote  is normally thought of as just note-taking software, but it does provide the option to create a presentation you can share online or with an audience. In that regard, it's a little more limited than the other options in not being dedicated presentation software. However, as an easy and handy way to pull together a presentation quickly, it could serve as a backup or last-minute option, especially if Evernote is already being commonly used by you.

LibreOffice Impress  is part of the open-source suite offered as a free alternative to Microsoft Office, and comes with a powerful array of tools and editing options for your presentation, not least working with 3D images. It's supported by a large community, so it's easy to find an array of additional templates. If there is a limitation it's that it's software you download and install rather than web-based, but any presentations created should be easily portable to the web if needed.

Adobe Spark  does things a bit differently, as rather than just use images it's geared toward video as well. This makes for potentially more powerful multimedia presentations, especially as Adobe also has a big selection of photos and images available for its users. There is a free tier for core features but requires a subscription for custom branding, personalized themes, and support.

Slides  comes with a lot of features in an easy-to-use interface, and involves setting up presentations using drag and drop into an existing grid. It's also internet-based so there's no software to download, and it only requires a browser to use and access.

Presentation software FAQs

Which presentation software is best for you.

When deciding which presentation software to download and use, first consider what your actual needs are, as sometimes free platforms may only provide basic options, so if you need to use advanced tools you may find a paid platform is much more worthwhile. Additionally, free and budget software options can sometimes prove limited when it comes to the variety of tools available, while higher-end software can really cater for every need, so do ensure you have a good idea of which features you think you may require for your presentation needs.

How we tested the best presentation software

To test for the best presentation software we first set up an account with the relevant software platform, whether as a download or as an online service. We then tested the service to see how the software could be used for different purposes and in different situations. The aim was to push each software platform to see how useful its basic tools were and also how easy it was to get to grips with any more advanced tools.

The 5 Most Popular TED Talks of 2022: Presentation Design

  • By: Amy Boone

At Ethos3, it’s our job to study what is succeeding on the presentation front. So, in our next few blogs, we’re doing a year-in-review. We’ll be looking at a specific set of presentations: the 5 most popular TED Talks of 2022 as determined by the number of views. We’ll unpack the presentations for patterns in design, delivery, and content. We want to see what these speakers did to reach over 2 million views each.

Today, we’re breaking down the presentation design in these wildly popular talks. What did these 5 speakers show on the screen? How did that affect their success? And what can we learn from them?

1. “How a ‘Hi Level’ mindset helps you realize your potential.” Cordae.

Cordae’s presentation design was simple and impactful. He used the screens for two purposes only: to illuminate his main points and to show people. The main points were shown as white words on a black screen, so his deck had high contrast. The other slides he used showed people: his mom, his middle school self, etc.

The Takeaway: We love Cordae’s limited use of slides. In fact, his example gives us an easy guidebook for beginning presenters. If you aren’t sure what to put in your presentation, feature the two things Cordae does: main points and people.

2. “Why having fun is the secret to a healthier life,” Catherine Price.

Price’s presentation design was surprisingly similar to Cordae’s, which may point to guidance from the folks at TED. She used white words on black slides to reinforce her main points. And she showed pictures of what it looked like to truly have fun. She also used a screenshot of a dictionary page and a Venn Diagram to help her illustrate the three components of true fun.

The Takeaway: One of the best parts of Price’s slide deck was the series of pictures that show people having fun. She could have tried to explain these same events and scenes with just words, but it wouldn’t have had the same impact. Use pictures where words fall short.

3. “How to discover your authentic self–at any age,” Bevy Smith.

Smith’s presentation does not make use of media.

The Takeaway: While we think every presentation can be enhanced with a great slide deck, Smith reminds us of this simple lesson: Don’t add things just to add them. Every single element of your presentation should serve a specific purpose. Less can often be more.

4. “We can make COVID-19 the last pandemic,” Bill Gates.

Of the top 5, Gates’ Ted Talk has the most extensive slide deck and the most attractive presentation design. Right from the beginning he displays pictures of ancient Rome, and then uses a slide to reinforce his title. Our favorite slide in the deck (shown below) is a simple, high contrast, split screen with an image and a statistic. It shows the number of U.S. firefighters.

presentation of 2022

The Takeaway: Gates’ slide deck is our favorite because it is simple and impactful. He uses attractive fonts in a larger size than the other presenters. He also makes use of video and data visualizations. His presentation shows us how a speaker and slide deck can work in tandem to powerfully communicate a message.

5. “’A seat at the table’ isn’t the solution for gender equity,” Lilly Singh.

Singh begins with a strong personal narrative without showing anything on the screen. Her slide deck starts when she seeks to offer proof of what she’s saying. When she says that girls want a seat at the table, her presentation media layers headlines and posts on the slide behind her. She also plays silent video clips of her comedy videos behind her at one point, bringing dynamic movement to her slide deck.

The Takeaway: You can use your slide deck like Singh does, as a “back up choir” to your solo act. Instead of having to verbally walk through proof, you can let your slides back you up. And bringing in proof or examples of what you are talking about in animated layers adds both credibility and depth to your presentation.

These popular TED Talks can help us design better slide decks and presentation media. So let’s review what we learned: highlight what is important, keep slides simple, use high contrast, and use your slides to back up what you are saying.

In our next blog we’ll be looking at the speakers’ delivery styles. In the meantime, get  in touch with one of our experts to see how Ethos3 can help take your presentation design to the next level.

Presentation of France’s 2022 foreign trade figures (7 february 2023)

  • Partager sur Linkedin

Olivier Becht, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, Economic Attractiveness and French Nationals Abroad, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, today presented France’s 2022 foreign trade figures.

The year 2022 saw a degraded global context, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, persistent tensions in supply chains, runaway commodity prices, rising inflation and higher interest rates. These factors have led to a slow-down in global trade.

France’s global trade has suffered in this context , seeing a degradation of the current account balance, leading to a deficit of -€53.5 billion , after a surplus of €9 billion in 2021. In 2022, the surpluses in services ( +€50 billion ) and income ( +31 billion ) no longer offset the trade deficit in goods. The latter stands at -€164 billion , a degradation of €78 billion in one year, almost entirely ( 86% ) due to energy imports.

The situation is similar for our main European partners: those which posted surpluses have seen them fall drastically, while those with deficits have seen them worsen.

In the Minister Delegate’s words, “France is paying a heavy price for the energy bill”.

In 2022, energy import prices increased by 2.1 times compared to the previous year, due to increased cost of energy supplies and the euro’s depreciation against the dollar. The energy bill has therefore more than doubled. Gas imports increased by 248% to €59 billion, while crude oil rose by 99% to €33 billion and petroleum products by 60% to €38 billion.

The Minister Delegate did however identify positive signs in the 2022 figures:

  • The recovery of our trade in services sped up, producing a record surplus of €50 billion , following €36 billion in 2021, driven by tourism (+€14 billion) and the good performance of transport companies (+25 billion) and financial services (+€9 billion).
  • Strong growth of goods trade in value , now above pre-COVID-19 levels (+18% for exports and +29% for imports compared to 2021);
  • Agricultural products have posted one of the best performances (+37%)
  • Automobile exports have recovered to practically (97%) 2019 levels;
  • And France’s traditional export champions have all posted surpluses: aviation (+€23.5 billion); perfumes and cosmetics (€2 billion growth to +€15 billion); beverages (+€16 billion); and the pharmaceuticals sector (+3 billion).

Lastly, the Minister Delegate highlighted that the French economy has what it takes to get back on track:

  • A strong tissue of more than 144,400 exporting companies in the third quarter of 2022.
  • First place in Europe for foreign investment attractiveness in terms of project numbers for the third year running (1,222 projects identified, more than 50% of which in localities of less than 50,000 inhabitants).
  • Reindustrialization at work for 5 years and boosted by the France 2030 plan, offering businesses new international opportunities. The balance of factory openings in France has been positive since 2021.

Olivier Becht said: “We have the means to improve our trade balance by winning the battle of our exporting SMEs, by maintaining the attractiveness of our economy and by building on its reindustrialization. These structural efforts are essential. Above and beyond merely strengthening our foreign trade, what is at stake is our growth, our global influence and our resilience. We need to help French companies resist the upheaval we are seeing.”

Clinical Presentation

Clinical considerations for care of children and adults with confirmed COVID-19

‹   View Table of Contents

  • The clinical presentation of COVID-19 ranges from asymptomatic to critical illness.
  • An infected person can transmit SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, before the onset of symptoms. Symptoms can change over the course of illness and can progress in severity.
  • Uncommon presentations of COVID-19 can occur, might vary by the age of the patient, and are a challenge to recognize.
  • In adults, age is the strongest risk factor for severe COVID-19. The risk of severe COVID-19 increases with increasing age especially for persons over 65 years and with increasing number of certain underlying medical conditions .

Incubation Period

Data suggest that incubation periods may differ by SARS-CoV-2 variant. Meta-analyses of studies published in 2020 identified a pooled mean incubation period of 6.5 days from exposure to symptom onset. (1) A study conducted during high levels of Delta variant transmission reported an incubation period of 4.3 days, (2) and studies performed during high levels of Omicron variant transmission reported a median incubation period of 3–4 days. (3,4)

Presentation

People with COVID-19 may be asymptomatic or may commonly experience one or more of the following symptoms (not a comprehensive list) (5) :

  • Fever or chills
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Myalgia (Muscle or body aches)
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting

The clinical presentation of COVID-19 ranges from asymptomatic to severe illness, and COVID-19 symptoms may change over the course of illness. COVID-19 symptoms can be difficult to differentiate from and can overlap with other viral respiratory illnesses such as influenza(flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) . Because symptoms may progress quickly, close follow-up is needed, especially for:

  • older adults
  • people with disabilities
  • people with immunocompromising conditions, and
  • people with medical conditions that place them at greater risk for severe illness or death.

The NIH COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines  group SARS-CoV-2 infection into five categories based on severity of illness:

  • Asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic infection : people who test positive for SARS-CoV-2 using a virologic test (i.e., a nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or an antigen test) but who have no symptoms that are consistent with COVID-19.
  • Mild illness : people who may have any of the various signs and symptoms of COVID-19 but who do not have shortness of breath, dyspnea, or abnormal chest imaging.
  • Moderate illness : people who have evidence of lower respiratory disease during clinical assessment or imaging and who have an oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ) ≥94% on room air at sea level.
  • Severe illness : people who have oxygen saturation <94% on room air at sea level, a ratio of arterial partial pressure of oxygen to fraction of inspired oxygen (PaO 2 /FiO 2 ) <300 mm Hg, a respiratory rate >30 breaths/min, or lung infiltrates >50%
  • Critical illness : people who have respiratory failure, septic shock, or multiple organ dysfunction.

Asymptomatic and presymptomatic presentation

Studies have documented SARS-CoV-2 infection in people who never develop symptoms (asymptomatic presentation) and in people who are asymptomatic when tested but develop symptoms later (presymptomatic presentation). ( 6,7 ) It is unclear what percentage of people who initially appear asymptomatic progress to clinical disease.   Multiple publications have reported cases of people with abnormalities on chest imaging that are consistent with COVID-19 very early in the course of illness, even before the onset of symptoms or a positive COVID-19 test. (9)

Radiographic Considerations and Findings

Chest radiographs of patients with severe COVID-19 may demonstrate bilateral air-space consolidation. (23)  Chest computed tomography (CT) images from patients with COVID-19 may demonstrate bilateral, peripheral ground glass opacities and consolidation. (24,25)  Less common CT findings can include intra- or interlobular septal thickening with ground glass opacities (hazy opacity) or focal and rounded areas of ground glass opacity surrounded by a ring or arc of denser consolidation (reverse halo sign). (24)

Multiple studies suggest that abnormalities on CT or chest radiograph may be present in people who are asymptomatic, pre-symptomatic, or before RT-PCR detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in nasopharyngeal specimens. (25)

Common COVID-19 symptoms

Fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, headache, and myalgia are among the most commonly reported symptoms in people with COVID-19. (5) Some people with COVID-19 have gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, sometimes prior to having fever or lower respiratory tract signs and symptoms. (10) Loss of smell and taste can occur, although these symptoms are reported to be less common since Omicron began circulating, as compared to earlier during the COVID-19 pandemic. (11,19-21) People can experience SARS-CoV-2 infection (asymptomatic or symptomatic), even if they are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines or were previously infected. (8)

Several studies have reported ocular symptoms associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, including redness, tearing, dry eye or foreign body sensation, discharge or increased secretions, and eye itching or pain. (13)

A wide range of dermatologic manifestations have been associated with COVID-19; timing of skin manifestations in relation to other COVID-19 symptoms and signs is variable. (14) Some skin manifestations may be associated with increased disease severity. (15) Images of cutaneous findings in COVID-19 are available from the American Academy of Dermatology .

Uncommon COVID-19 symptoms

Less common presentations of COVID-19 can occur. Older adults may present with different symptoms than children and younger adults. Some older adults can experience SARS-CoV-2 infection accompanied by delirium, falls, reduced mobility or generalized weakness, and glycemic changes. ( 12)

Transmission

People infected with SARS-CoV-2 can transmit the virus even if they are asymptomatic or presymptomatic. ( 16) Peak transmissibility appears to occur early during the infectious period (prior to symptom onset until a few days after), but infected persons can shed infectious virus up to 10 days following infection. (22 ) Both vaccinated and unvaccinated people can transmit SARS-CoV-2. ( 17,18) Clinicians should consider encouraging all people to take the following prevention actions to limit SARS-CoV-2 transmission:

  • stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines,
  • test for COVID-19 when symptomatic or exposed to someone with COVID-19, as recommended by CDC,
  • wear a high-quality mask  when recommended,
  • avoiding contact with individuals who have suspected or confirmed COVID-19,
  • improving ventilation when possible,
  • and follow basic health and hand hygiene guidance .

Clinicians should also recommend that people who are infected with SARS-CoV-2, follow CDC guidelines  for isolation.

Download Article PDF

Join us on Wednesday, January 31, at 5:00 p.m. EST for a presentation by 2022 RAMSA Prize recipients Avani Agarwal and Daniela Déu.

Avani and Daniela traveled to Portugal to study the architectural styles and urban conditions of five neighborhoods in Lisbon. Their research included an analysis of the relationships between public and private spaces, street hierarchy, massing techniques, fenestration details, and materiality.

Avani Agarwal joined RAMSA full-time in 2019 and is currently working on the Marina at Kaplankaya, a pedestrian-oriented seaside resort community located north of Bodrum, Turkey. She has previously worked on residences in Hong Kong and Turkey as well as a site analysis project for the U.S. State Department, Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations. Avani serves as the events chair of RAMSA’s Women’s Leadership Initiative and co-leads our firm’s participation in the ACE mentor program, a not-for-profit organization that encourages high school students to pursue careers in engineering, design, and construction. She received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University.

Daniela Déu joined RAMSA in 2018. She is currently working on Paramount Theatre, the renovation of a landmarked theater in Palm Beach, Florida. She previously worked on the design of a new residential neighborhood on a five-acre site San Francisco, California. Daniela is a member of RAMSA’s Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Alliance (IDEA) group. She received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Miami and a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University.

Now in its eighth year, the RAMSA Prize is a $7,000 grant awarded annually to RAMSA staff to fund a two-week-long travel and research project exploring a location’s sense of place. The prize encourages staff to engage in targeted, in-depth research into a city, town, or place in a way that can meaningfully inform design work. It also supports collaboration with peers and the development of personal architectural interests as an extension of the firm’s research-based design principles. Previous recipients have traveled to Argentina, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Mexico, the Caribbean, and even closer to home, throughout Harlem and Miami.
