Speech On Unemployment - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

As we all know, unemployment is a problem that affects not just individuals but entire communities and societies. It leads to economic instability and social unrest and can have a devastating impact on people's mental and physical well-being. However, it's important to recognise that unemployment is not just a personal problem but a systemic one. It results from larger economic and political forces and requires collective action and solutions.

10 Line Speech on Unemployment

Short speech on unemployment, long speech on unemployment.

Speech On Unemployment - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

Unemployment is one of the most pressing issues across the globe.

It refers to the situation when people are without work and actively seeking employment.

Unemployment can have serious consequences for individuals, including financial insecurity and a lack of purpose and meaning.

It can also have negative impacts on the economy, as a high unemployment rate can lead to a decline in consumer spending and economic growth.

"Unemployment is the one form of misery that cuts across all social boundaries." - James Buchan.

Governments and organisations have implemented various policies and programs to address unemployment, such as job training and unemployment benefits.

However, these measures are only sometimes sufficient to fully address the problem.

Factors such as automation and globalisation can also contribute to unemployment.

It is important for individuals to continuously seek education and training to increase their employability in a constantly changing job market.

Solving the problem of unemployment requires a multifaceted approach involving both individual and societal efforts.

Unemployment is a critical issue that transcends beyond just the individual to impact their loved ones and the community at large. It constitutes a personal hardship for the unemployed individuals and a major societal challenge that requires attention and resolution.

Causes | The causes of unemployment are complex and can include economic factors such as slow growth, automation and technological changes, as well as broader social and political factors such as the availability of education and training opportunities, and the structure of the labour market.

Consequences | The consequences of unemployment are far-reaching and can have a profound impact on individuals, families and communities. For those who are unemployed, the lack of a steady income can lead to poverty, homelessness and other forms of social exclusion. This can have a ripple effect, contributing to social unrest, crime and other problems that affect society as a whole.

Impact | Unemployment also has a significant impact on the economy. When people are unable to find work, they are less likely to spend money, which can lead to reduced demand for goods and services, further slowing growth and exacerbating the problem.

In order to address the issue of unemployment, it is important to take a comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of the problem. This may include investment in education and training opportunities, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and the creation of a more flexible and responsive labour market.

Unemployment is a pressing problem in the modern world, affecting millions of people globally and creating economic, social, and political consequences. Unemployment is defined as the state in which a person who is actively seeking work is unable to find any.

Causes of Unemployment

There are many causes of unemployment, including technological changes, economic downturns, and globalisation. Automation and other technological advancements have led to the replacement of many jobs by machines, while globalisation has led to the outsourcing of jobs to other countries where labour is cheaper. Economic recessions and other economic factors can also lead to widespread unemployment. In addition, the lack of job opportunities in some areas, particularly in rural areas, can contribute to high levels of unemployment.

Historical Overview of Unemployment

Unemployment has been a problem for centuries, but it has become increasingly pressing in recent decades. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, unemployment reached unprecedented levels, with millions of people losing their jobs and facing extreme poverty and hardship.

In response, governments and international organisations have developed various programs and policies aimed at reducing unemployment and providing support to those who are out of work. These efforts have helped to reduce the extent of unemployment in many countries, but the problem remains a persistent one, particularly in times of economic downturn.

Consequences of Unemployment

Unemployment has a wide range of consequences, both for the individuals affected and for society as a whole.

For individuals, unemployment can lead to financial hardship, social isolation, and reduced quality of life.

Those who are out of work are often unable to meet their basic needs, and may struggle to pay for housing, food, and other essentials.

Unemployment can also have a negative impact on mental and physical health, leading to stress, anxiety, and other health problems.

High levels of unemployment can lead to reduced economic growth and increased poverty, as fewer people are able to contribute to the economy through work.

It can also lead to increased crime and social unrest, as those who are out of work may feel frustrated and powerless.

Unemployment can also have political consequences, as those who are affected may become disillusioned with the political system and may be more likely to support political movements that promise to address the problem.

Possible Solutions to Unemployment

There is no single solution to the problem of unemployment, as it is caused by a complex array of factors. However, there are a number of measures that can be taken to reduce unemployment and support those who are out of work.

Providing education and training opportunities to help individuals acquire the skills needed for new jobs.

Investing in infrastructure and development projects that create jobs.

Encouraging the development of small businesses and entrepreneurship.

Providing financial support and job-search assistance to those who are out of work.

Promoting economic growth and stability, which can help to create jobs and reduce unemployment.

Unemployment is a complex and pressing problem that affects millions of people globally. While there is no single solution to the problem, there are a number of measures that can be taken to reduce unemployment and support those who are out of work. It is the responsibility of governments, businesses, and individuals to work together to address this problem and find effective solutions.

In our country, there are a lot of reasons for a large section of the population of the nation for facing the problem of unemployment. Some reasons are population growth, slow economic growth, seasonal occupation, slow growth in the economic sector, and the decrease in the cottage industry.

Moreover, these are the main reasons for the problem of unemployment in our country. Also, the situation is now so extreme that people with high education are ready for doing the duty of a sweeper as an employee. Besides, the government is not taking their work seriously and that’s a huge problem we should worry about. Apart from all these things, a huge portion of the population takes part in the agricultural sector.

The agriculture sector only provides employment in the harvesting or plantation seasons. In addition, one of the main reasons for the unemployment problem in India is the vast population of the nation. The population of the country demands a huge number of jobs and occupations every year which the government is unable to deliver.

Consequences

If things will continue like the current situation then the problem of unemployment will become a major issue for the nation. Apart from this, many things happen in the economy that is responsible for the increase in poverty.

The things responsible are an increase in the crime rate, exploitation of labours, political instability, mental health condition, and loss of the skills. As a result of these things, all this will eventually affect the nation in a very bad manner.

An initiative by the Government

The government is taking this problem very seriously and is also taking actions to slowly decrease the level of unemployment. Schemes that are available for this are IRDP (Integrated Rural Development Programme), DPAP (Drought Prone Area Programme), Jawahar Rozgar Yojana, Employment Assurance Scheme, NRY (Nehru Rozgar Yojana), Training for self-Employment, PMIUPEP (Prime Minister’s Integrated Urban Poverty Eradication Program), employment exchange, Employment Guarantee Scheme, development of organized sector, small and cottage industries, employment in forging countries, and Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana and many more are also there.

To conclude, we can say that the problem of unemployment is a very important issue for all of us equally. We all need work because we all need money to secure our future. We have to earn for our families and we have to fulfil our needs. For all these things we need the money and the source of money is employment. Everyone has to work for money and we can’t work until and unless we won’t get any job.

Long and Short Speeches on Unemployment

Any individual who is deprived of earning a living and faces difficulty in getting a paid job is known as unemployed and the condition is termed as unemployment. With India being a highly populated country, unemployment has always been a major problem in our country. And this problem has been increasing at a major rate.

Here, we have provided a long speech as well as a short unemployment speech in English for the students of all categories. Students can easily refer to our speech on unemployment for any exam preparation and can also gather information on this topic to prepare their own speech.

There is also a 10 Lines Speech provided by us especially for the students of Class 1 and Class 2.

Long Speech on Unemployment

This long speech on unemployment has been provided as a reference for the students of Class 7 To Class 12 for their exam preparation.

Warm greetings to everyone! I firstly appreciate everyone who has gathered here to discuss the problem of unemployment. I am thankful enough for providing me with an opportunity to deliver a speech on unemployment.

Unemployment has become a major concern among the people of India today. With the increasing population, the job sectors fail to provide a full-time job to all the people. This, as a result, has increased the rate of unemployment in our country. Thus, unemployment can be defined as the condition where an individual is deprived of a paid job or self-employment and is unable to find a suitable job for employment.

The fear of unemployment has caused a level of depression and mental stress on the youth today. In spite of getting a degree and having the highest qualifications, they still have to go through the process of unemployment. Many individuals, being the sole bread earner of the family, struggle day and night to earn a living. Unemployment not only refers to being jobless, but it also refers to the state where an individual is being underpaid as per their experience and qualifications. Several individuals are unsatisfied with the jobs they are in and are sticking to their jobs due to unemployment problems.

Implementation of various government programs to improve the practical skills of the students must be done in every school and college. Although the government of India has introduced several employment schemes to offer jobs to the unemployed, many more steps must be taken to reduce the unemployment rate in our country. People must be made aware of self-employment and proper fundings for these government programs and projects must be implemented by the government.

Lastly, I would like to thank all of you for your patience and for coming here to discuss this issue.

Short Speech on Unemployment in English

Given below is a short unemployment speech in English for the students of Class 3 to Class 6.

Greetings everyone! Today I am here to deliver a speech on the topic of unemployment.

With the fast-growing industries and economic system, our country India still lags behind in the field of employment. In spite of having a higher degree and qualification, many people have to suffer through the process of unemployment. The main reason behind this major issue is the growing population and demand for a full-time job. Many citizens of the country are still deprived of paid jobs and are struggling to earn a living. This has also eventually led to mental pressures and depression among the youth. Although there has been an increase in the literacy rate of the people that has also increased the demand for new jobs.

It is high time that the government should take up initiatives to provide employment to the people. There are several government programs and schemes that have been introduced by the Prime Minister to help the unemployed to get a paid job. New training programs should be introduced in schools and colleges for the better development of the students. People should be made familiar with the self-employment scheme and initiatives must be implemented by the government for funding these programs.

Lastly, I would like to end my speech by saying that unemployment has become a major problem in India today and necessary steps must be taken to reduce the unemployment rate.

10 Lines Speech on Unemployment

Here is a 2-minute long speech on unemployment for the students of Class 1 and Class 2.

Good morning everyone! Today I am here to deliver a speech on unemployment.

Unemployment is a serious problem faced by many people in our country.

The increasing population and higher demands for jobs give rise to unemployment.

India being a populated country faces a higher unemployment rate due to limited job sectors.

There are several people who do not have a paid job and are surviving unemployment.

Unemployment also counts those individuals who are being underpaid in their jobs and are working outside their area of interest.

Even people having higher degrees and qualifications have to go through the process of unemployment.

This causes a high level of mental pressure and depression to the individuals as they struggle day and night to earn a living.

Due to slow economic growth and small job sectors, this problem has given rise to many unemployed people.

Lastly, I would like to say that unemployment is becoming a major concern of the youth of our country and if not solved in time, it will also bring down the economic rate of our country.

2. What are the reasons for unemployment that I can include in my unemployment speech?

There are numerous reasons for a large section of the population of our country to be facing the problem of unemployment. Some of these reasons are population growth, slow economic growth, seasonal occupations, slow economic growth and a decrease in the cost of living in our country. 1 Minute Speech on Unemployment In English

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of ‘Unemployment’.

Google simply defines the term ‘unemployment’ to be “the state of being unemployed.” Wikipedia, on the other hand, gives a much more detailed explanation. It states as follows: “Unemployment, according to the OECD, is people above a specified age not being in paid employment or self-employment but currently available for work during the reference period. Unemployment is measured by the unemployment rate, which is the number of people who are unemployed as a percentage of the labour force.”

Broadly speaking, unemployment can be classified into 10 different categories. Namely, they are Cyclical Unemployment, Frictional Unemployment, Structural Unemployment, Natural Unemployment, Long-Term Unemployment, Seasonal Unemployment, Classical Unemployment, Underemployment, Regional Unemployment, and Voluntary Unemployment. Again, Disguised Unemployment can also be taken as a form of unemployment, often seen in farms and rural areas.

The unemployment rate in India rose to 8.30 percent in 2022, owing to Covid-19.

Speech on Unemployment

Unemployment speech – 1.

Respected Managers and Dear Colleagues!

As the increasing threat of recession is looming over our heads, it has become necessary to talk about it at least amongst our fraternity. We all know that our co-employees are being laid off due to the scarcity of work and the dwindling financial condition of our organization. It’s a time that needs to be handled with utmost patience and ingenuity.

We never know that one day while walking through the office, any of us may be told by our manager, “Sorry, but it’s your last day in the office today”. Now you all must have started contemplating what you will do then, how you will make money and run your family. So let’s face this situation with dexterity and smartness. However, before we engage in a conversation or discussion, please allow me to deliver a concise speech on unemployment so that you have an insight into the things and thereafter are able to evaluate your own circumstances with the situation of the masses. Trust me; it will give you a lot of encouragement to brave the situation boldly.

There are mainly three forms of unemployment – labor class, who is illiterate, educated people without being technically qualified and lastly technical people, such as engineers. Let us know about them one by one.

With labor class, the situation is such that they have to constantly look for employment opportunities as they earn wages on a daily basis; hence they club themselves at a particular place to be able to obtain regular employment somewhere. In this precarious situation, sometimes they are able to find employment and sometimes not. But they have habituated themselves to survive in the latter condition even though it is frustrating at times for them too when they are unable to meet their basic requirements of food and clothing. Situation is quite similar for the city laborers also as they manage to get seasonal employment in some big farm or field, which help them to survive.

As the population of literate people is growing day by day, the government is unable to accommodate them at the workplaces. Already our educated youth is discontented with the incompetent wages given to them and the threat of unemployment leaves them even more frustrated. It is quite unfortunate that they are made to meander through the dark roads. Since they don’t possess any practical experience or technical expertise, they only end up looking for clerical jobs, which are not enough to accommodate the growing number of literate people.

Then those who possess technical qualification get even more frustrated because they are unable to find a good job at par with their academic qualification. Since the number of people acquiring technical expertise is increasing day by day, therefore even they get caught in the trap of unemployment. It’s good that more and more people are educating themselves and are also going for higher educational levels too; but sadly the government is proving inefficient to offer them good employment opportunities. Hence, the growing anger and frustration in our youth has become so evident these days.

But instead of increasing our frustration, we should think of combating this situation, may be through generating self-employment opportunities and channelizing our energy in that direction. In this manner, the grave problem of unemployment can be tackled to a great extent. That’s all I have to say.

Unemployment Speech – 2

Dear Employees!

It’s a rare occasion that I get to interact with all my employees under one roof the way that I am doing today. There is nothing special in the present day and behind our coming here; however as a director of the company I realized that there ought to be no communication gap between me and my employees. Secondly, if there is any concern or issue with any one of you then please feel free to put it across the table. The management would certainly try to resolve it or would bring the necessary changes in the organization.

Amidst the growing recession period, I would request everybody to join hands together and work unanimously towards the betterment of our company. In fact, we should consider ourselves fortunate that we have a job at hand and good growth prospects. Look at those who are not fairly employed or are unemployed despite a good educational background.

Do you know that the count of people, who are without a job, is increasing day by day in our country? According to experts, this is mainly owing to the economic slowdown as well as sluggish expansion in business activities that have brought the doom of employment generation.

Ideally, it’s the government that should expedite its growth measures in order to facilitate skill-based training activities so that the gap between demand and supply of work skills can be filled and necessary qualification can be given. This can also help resolve the long-term issue of unemployment.

Though there are people who remain unemployed by choice and are not willing to work, this will not be termed as unemployment. Unemployment is that situation when a person wishes to work, but is not able to find for himself/herself a qualified job. There is no doubt that our nation is grappling with this grave issue of unemployment. Unfortunately, many engineers, doctors, graduates or even post graduates are either unemployed or underemployed. Due to rising unemployment, the nation is merely wasting its human resource or is not able to unleash its benefits entirely.

In India, the rate of unemployment is depicting a growing trend since 2011 when it was 3.5 percent. Gradually, it increased to 3.6% in the year 2012 and further rose to 3.7% in the year 2013. Since then, the percentage is never seeing its decline. In fact, it has also been observed that at every stage of education, particularly at the higher levels, rate of female unemployment has always surpassed male employment.

The most important step that our government should take is to enforce strict population control measures and encourage its people to have small families. Then, some scrupulous measures should be taken to improve the quality of Indian education system. Our education system should be more focused on developing skills or providing practical training rather than confining itself to theoretical knowledge.

Then, new possibilities of employment should be created by setting-up small-scale and cottage industries. When people will be self-employed, they will not run after for jobs and would rather be able to employ others in their start-ups.

Now, may I invite the opinions of my employees on this issue of unemployment and also some concrete suggestions to combat it.

Unemployment Speech – 3

Good Morning Honorable Principal, Honorable Teachers and My Dear Friends!

As I begin, I would like to ask all the senior students a question that how many of you know that what you are going to do in your future? Nobody knows! Today, I am here to deliver a speech on unemployment that is directly related to my question and our future because it could be the worst problem that we all are going to face in our life after our education completion. As we all know that India is a huge country with 1.32 billion of population and thus it became a difficult task for our government to provide jobs to all the job seekers in the country. India has approximately 356 million youth population and probably all of them want to earn money but it is not an easy task for the government to provide all of them a job.

There are many reasons behind the rise of this problem. First of all, our education system is not appropriate. Our education should be job oriented but unfortunately it is been fixed up to the bookish knowledge. Students spend their whole time at school in reading books and writing but they also need some practical or job oriented knowledge. Second problem is our country’s huge population. This is because of the lack of knowledge among people about the values and benefits of a small family. Due to the lack of education and knowledge, our country has the second highest population around the world that creates a shortage of jobs for people living in the country.

There are some schemes and programs that are launched by our Indian government for solving the problem of unemployment in the country. First, in 2005, the government had launched Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act that guarantee a 100 day employment for an unemployed person in a year. In 200 of the district it has been implemented and will be expanded to 600 districts further. Under this scheme, a person is paid 150 Rs per day. Another scheme that was also launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment of India called National Career Service Portal (a web portal) (www.ncs.gov.in). By the help of this portal, a person who is seeking for a job could avail the information about job updates and vacancies. In this portal, private vacancies and contractual jobs that are available in government sector are available in this portal.

One more facility that government has provided is a weekly newspaper titled Employment News that can be available in every Saturday evening. It contains all the detailed information regarding government jobs and vacancies available in India. It also contains notifications regarding government exams and recruitment procedure for government jobs. Besides these schemes, there is also a choice of self-employing through business etc. If a person starts a company then it provides jobs for many unemployed people and it is a good solution for this problem.

On this note I would like to conclude my speech and I hope that my speech would be useful for your future.

Thank you and I wish you all a great day ahead!

Unemployment Speech – 4

Good Morning Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Students!

Today, this seminar has been organized for the discussion over a very important aspect from which mostly every person could go through and that is unemployment and as a teacher, I have got this opportunity to host this seminar. First of all let me tell you about unemployment. It is a state when a person who is qualified and is eligible for job but does not find any. The problem of unemployment has continued from many years and is still a major issue for every person who willing to find a job. In a country like India, it becomes such a difficult task for a government to provide jobs to every job seeker. There are many reasons for the lack of employment in India. One of the reasons for unemployment is that India is a developing country and hence the country is getting modernized, it is lacking in jobs because of the excess use of technological machines. Industries started using heavy machines in the place of many workers and thus the workers are getting laid off and unemployed. Especially, old people who live alone are facing a lot of problems due to modernization and use of technology.

There are many other reasons such as our country’s education system which focuses only on the bookish knowledge and much less on practical knowledge. This kind of education system is called as degree oriented system but we actually need a system which is career oriented. If a person has completed many years in school and colleges and is still not ready for a job then what is the outcome of those years and study. There is a need of change in our education system. There should be some vocational studies that will help in enhancing the skills of the students. Another reason could be the thinking of people. Everybody wants to have a government job and that is quite impossible. Students should get praised and provoked for starting their own business. Mainly parents or teachers create a fear in a mind of student that there is a huge risk of failure in business or self-employment. This is also one of the reasons of lack of jobs because if a person starts a business then it provide jobs to many job seekers.

One of the main reasons of the lack of job opportunity in India is its population. We get to see thousands of people who compete for one position. India is a second most populated country around the world. It is quite difficult to provide millions of people a job in government sector. There is a need for encouraging the interest of students and showing them the correct path through which they could defeat this problem. As a teacher, I would like to advise you to choose your own interest as a career option.

On this note I would like to conclude my speech and extend special thanks to our honorable principal ma’am for giving me this opportunity.

The Dangers of Long-Term Unemployment

  • Financial Management & Risk

Joseph Stiglitz

Joseph Stiglitz

Columbia University professor Joseph Stiglitz gave a thought-provoking presentation at the World Business Forum conference in New York last week. Stiglitz — one of the economists credited with  foreseeing the global financial crisis that occurred in 2008 and one of  seven Nobel-Prize-winning alumni of the MIT Department of Economics doctoral program — did a good job articulating the dangers that long-term unemployment pose to the U.S economy as a whole — not just to those unemployed or underemployed. Noted Stiglitz:

“Right now, one out of six Americans who would like a full-time job can’t get one. You know, that’s really unacceptable…. What worries me even more is that a very large fraction [of the unemployed] — almost half — are now long-term unemployed. If you’re long-term unemployed, getting back in the labor force is very difficult, and when you do get back, your wages are much lower. We’re destroying our human capital; we’re weakening our human capital. And that’s really going to make it more difficult for us to get back to robust recovery.”

Stiglitz’ proposed solution? He thinks that, despite the national debt, the U.S. government needs to spend more on stimulus — but with a focus on investments in areas like infrastructure, schools, technology and retrofitting the economy to deal with global warming.

Such investments, Stiglitz maintained, will promote not only short-term growth and jobs — but also long-term economic growth. He argued that, because the U.S. government can borrow long-term at low rates, investments in areas like infrastructure and technology can be worth the additional debt required to finance them — because they will, in effect, increase the assets of the U.S economy. Said Stiglitz:

“If you were a business and you could borrow at 2% and you can earn 15%, you would be foolish not to do it.”

Essay on unemployment

Essay on unemployment

Last updated Monday , 13-11-2023 on 09:53 am

Essay on unemployment is important for every student, and we will write several models for essay on unemployment, such as a short essay on unemployment or a paragraph, or a 250-word essay, a long essay on unemployment.

Unemployment is a serious social problem and has negative effects on both the individual and society. Therefore, we find that writing an essay about it is important and should deal with an introduction and a conclusion as well, and we will present an essay on unemployment with the elements.

There are several models to suit all students, in the primary, preparatory and secondary levels.

Unemployment is one of the biggest problems facing countries, and this problem has increased recently as a result of the spread of the Corona virus (Covid-19), as many factories, companies and stores were closed, export and import stopped, and the tourism sector and other government institutions. stopped working

The high unemployment rate in some countries was a clear indication of the deterioration of their economy and the low level of per capita income.

The government is working to solve this problem to avoid the negative effects that result from it, because unemployment has negative effects on both the individual and society.

Definition of unemployment

Unemployment is defined as the increase in the number of people looking for a job over the number of jobs offered  in the labor market.

The unemployment rate is determined by calculating the percentage by dividing the number of job seekers by the number of the labor force. The labor force means the sum of working people and people looking for jobs.

Undoubtedly, the higher the unemployment rate in society, the more this indicates the existence of major economic problems.

Therefore, we find that there is a continuous follow-up to determine the unemployment rate in society, and to try to develop solutions to this problem.

The main types of unemployment

There is no doubt that every young man dreams of having a job after graduating from university, but this dream is not easily achieved, and the percentage of the unemployed has increased.

And we can define the unemployed as the one who is looking for a job and wants it but does not find it, and we do not mean by it those who do not want to work, such as some rich young people or the elderly and those who receive a pension, and the young people who are still studying, all of these are not from the unemployed, and they are not counted in the unemployment rate in society.

Among the most important types of unemployment are the following:

1- Classic unemployment among young people

Unemployment among young people is one of the most dangerous types of unemployment, because young people are the energy of society, and they are able to work well.

A job is the dream of every young man after he finishes his studies. But often young people are shocked by the bitter reality, after he finished his studies, he could not find any suitable job for him. As a result, young people are forced to do much less work than they had previously dreamed of. In most cases, they are jobs that do not require a great deal of education.

And some of the young people refuse to work, and keep looking for their dream job, and in many cases they do not find it.

2- Disguised unemployment

The name disguised unemployment is called the increase in the number of people who work in a job, more than the number required to complete that work, We see this clearly in government institutions and bodies. Where it is overcrowded with employees and there is no real production commensurate with their number.

Accordingly, the numbers in excess of the need for work are unemployed people, but they receive salaries. The state cannot take measures against them (such as dismissing them or firing them from work) in order to take into account their social conditions.

3- Seasonal unemployment

Seasonal unemployment is unemployment that recurs permanently, because there are some jobs associated with certain times of the year, or related to some projects. Many workers work in this business. When the project or work season ends, these people become unemployed.

4- Long-term unemployment

The number of citizens looking for work is monitored through labor offices and other government institutions.

The numbers who join a job, and the numbers that did not find a job, are monitored. People who are looking for work and they did not find during a period of more than 27 weeks they are called long-term unemployment.

5- Short-term unemployment

The number of citizens looking for work is also monitored through labor offices and other government institutions.

The numbers who join a job, and the numbers that did not find a job, are monitored. Individuals who are looking for work and have not found a job within a period of less than 27 weeks is called short-term unemployment.

6- Cyclical unemployment

Cyclical unemployment also occurs in a large proportion, and it is due to the capital cycle, or because a person moves from one job to another. But in most cases, the period of unemployment is limited, and the individual can join work again.

Causes of unemployment

  • The gap between the number of job seekers and the number of existing jobs. Some may attribute this reason to the increase in population. But we must benefit from human wealth by preparing and training them, and providing job opportunities that benefit both the individual and society.
  • The mismatch between the skills of individuals and the skills required for the labor market. The state bears the biggest mistake in this matter, as the academic preparation of students does not comply with the requirements of the labor market.
  • The high interest rate, which is one of the reasons for the high unemployment rate in society. As businessmen and the rich prefer to put their money in banks if the interest is high, Thus, they do not invest in agriculture, industry, or trade. All of this leads to a lack of job opportunities and an increase in the unemployment rate.
  • Natural disasters, which are also one of the factors that increase the unemployment rate, For example, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, heavy rain, drought, desertification and other natural phenomena, all of these phenomena have an impact on human life and may lead to unemployment of many of them. Where many people lose their jobs and money as a result of natural disasters.
  • The spread of epidemics is one of the factors that increase the unemployment rate, and we have recently witnessed the impact of the Corona epidemic (Covid-19) on the economy of countries, especially developing countries, where their economy has deteriorated, and many people have lost their jobs and money.
  • Technological development and machine solutions in place of labor was one of the most important causes of the unemployment problem. The problem of unemployment appeared after the Industrial Revolution, in which the machine became more widely used, and the labor force was laid off. The greater the technological progress, the greater the layoff, and the greater the unemployment.
  • Internal or external migration is one of the causes of unemployment. This is like the migration of citizens from the countryside to the cities, which makes the number of people looking for work much greater than the number of jobs.
  • The global recession greatly affects the economy of all countries, especially developing countries, as the world has become intertwined in economic matters, and the movement of trade, import and export, and others. When the economy is weak and buying is scarce, many people lose their jobs and join the unemployed.

The effects of unemployment on the individual

Unemployment has many negative effects on the individual, as it affects all aspects of his life, especially if he is married and has a family he is responsible for.

The biggest problem that a person can face is his inability to provide the necessary money to buy his basic needs and the needs of his family.

1- The low level of income and consequently the deterioration of living conditions, which puts the person under severe psychological pressure.

2- Increasing the financial burden, as the unemployed person cannot compensate for the money he spends, and therefore he will spend all his savings, and after that he will not find what to spend.

3 – Borrowing and the accumulation of debts, happen a lot because there are basic requirements, and it is impossible to dispense with them.

4- The high rate of mental and physical diseases. Undoubtedly, the unemployed person is under great psychological and nervous pressure, which causes him psychological diseases such as depression, stress and anxiety. In addition, he suffers from other diseases such as high pressure, heart disease and others.

5- The tendency to commit suicide is the most dangerous effect caused by unemployment, because the unemployed person who is unable to provide for the needs of his family is under great nervous and psychological pressure, which may lead him to commit suicide if he does not find a solution to his problem.

6- Hatred of society is one of the negative effects resulting from unemployment, because the unemployed person will hate others, and hatred will spread among members of society.

7- Lack of loyalty to the homeland is one of the most dangerous negative effects of unemployment, as a person will hate his homeland and search for another country that provides him with a better living.

The effects of unemployment on society

Unemployment has negative effects on society, as unemployment is closely related to the economy. The stronger the economy, the more projects and job opportunities, and thus the lower the unemployment rate in society.

Certainly, the economy is a sign of the strength or weakness of the state. In recent times, wars have become very economic.

Among the negative effects of unemployment on society are the following:

1- The loss of political stability, and this is a dangerous thing because political instability will lead to a deterioration in the state of the economy.

2- The high crime rate is one of the negative effects of unemployment, as some individuals resort to theft, bribery and other crimes to get money.

3- Family disintegration and the high rate of divorce, as a result of the man’s inability to provide for the family’s needs.

4- Searching for illegal ways to immigrate, and this is what young people always think of without caring about the risks that may take their lives.

5- Weakness of the economy as a result of not benefiting from the workforce.

6- Skilled migration abroad in search of good job opportunities.

7- Increasing financial allocations for subsidy, which helps the economy deteriorate rapidly.

8- The spread of poverty among the classes of citizens and the arrival of large numbers of citizens below the poverty line.

The effect of unemployment on the economy

There is no doubt that the relationship between the economy and unemployment is close, as unemployment is an important indicator of the strength or weakness of the economy.

The higher the unemployment rate, the weaker the economy, and the lower the economic growth. While the low unemployment rate indicates the recovery and strength of the economy.

Among the negative effects of unemployment are:

  • Lack of production, and not benefiting from the unemployed workforce.
  • Consumption of products, and the need to import larger quantities.
  • Increase aid, and borrow from abroad.

All of these negative effects exacerbate economic problems, which may eventually lead to the state’s inability to pay its foreign debts.

The policy adopted to solve the unemployment problem

Encouraging the private sector.

Encouraging small businesses.

Develop education according to the required jobs.

Investing the components of the state to provide job opportunities for young people, such as investing waste lands in agriculture and animal investment, or encouraging small industries that complement other industries.

At the end of a topic about unemployment and its negative effects on both the individual and society, we must advise young people to acquire the largest number of experiences in order to be able to find a job for themselves.

Also, small projects, in which several people participate, are a good solution.

It is also important in order to eliminate the phenomenon of unemployment to study the needs of the labor market, and to make education in line with these needs.

Unemployment Essay in English

Many people suffer from difficulty in getting a good job opportunity. This is because job opportunities are much less than the number of people willing to work. Some of these people prefer unemployment rather than working in jobs below their educational level.

There are some tips that young people should follow in order to get a good job. Including self-development through the diversity of experiences in their specialization.

University study is no longer sufficient, but the young man must develop himself through specialized courses, learn more than one language, learn computer science and other modern sciences.

This is what every individual should do after job opportunities have become few, because unemployment has a negative impact on an individual’s life, whether in the economic, social and health aspects.

Paragraph on unemployment

The problem of unemployment arose with the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, as the machine became more widely used, and thus labor was largely dispensed with. This problem is exacerbated by increasing technological progress. As a result, a large number of individuals cannot find suitable work for them.

And the jobs required a special quality of employees, and they were required to be fully acquainted with the English language and computer science.

Therefore, young people must gain several experiences in order to get a good job, and there is a great development in the requirements of the labor market.

Trade, for example, through the Internet (online shopping) has become the most prevalent, and technology has become more widely used in agriculture and industry as well.

Unemployment solutions essay

The problem of unemployment has become a global problem, and it is important that we look for realistic solutions to this problem. Among these solutions is the encouragement of small projects, which are managed by one individual or a group of individuals, in addition to encouraging investors to establish huge projects that provide many job opportunities for young people.

It is important that education at the secondary and university levels meet the demands of the labor market, so that the student will not be shocked after graduating from university that what he has studied has nothing to do with the needs of the labor market.

Also, allocating funds to subsidize non-workers until they find a job is necessary, in order to avoid the risks that result from the high rate of unemployment in society, such as the high crime rate in society, family disintegration and other social and health problems.

Unemployment Essay in English 250 Words

The problem of unemployment has become a global problem, and it is a serious problem that affects both the individual and society. Therefore, the causes of this problem are studied and followed up, in order to find real solutions.

The causes of the unemployment problem differ from one society to another. There are societies that attribute this phenomenon to overpopulation, and thus encourage families to control birth, provide them with the necessary medicines for this, and use the media to direct families to birth control.

While other countries encourage national and foreign investment, in order to provide job opportunities for their citizens. Other countries encourage the establishment of projects that require many labors, and thus we find that there are many solutions to overcome the problem of unemployment.

It is important for each country to study this phenomenon separately, and to know what its causes are, so that it can develop appropriate solutions to solve the problem of unemployment. Individuals must also develop their skills, and have multiple experiences that qualify them to join the work.

The existence of solutions to the problem of unemployment is very important, because unemployment has negative effects on both the individual and society, and unemployment is considered an indicator of the strength or weakness of the state’s economy.

Unemployment essay introduction

Undoubtedly, the problem of unemployment troubles many countries, especially developing countries. This is because the high rate of unemployment in society leads to political instability.

When the government cannot provide the needs of citizens, by providing them with job opportunities, and they receive a salary sufficient to purchase their needs, then demonstrations, crimes and other acts of violence and sabotage will increase, and all this leads to political instability.

While the rich countries solve this problem by giving unemployment aid, which is an amount of money that is sufficient to purchase the needs of individuals, and is given to unemployed people until they find a suitable job for them.

The high unemployment rate among members of society will lead to an increase in poverty and the spread of psychological and mental illnesses.

Youth unemployment essay

Undoubtedly, young people are the most important group in society, and they must hold great hopes for nations.

Young people are characterized by strength, enthusiasm, and aspiration for a better future. Therefore, the government must provide job opportunities for young people, so that these opportunities are appropriate to their scientific abilities.

It is desirable for young people to arm themselves with science, and to acquire all the experiences that qualify them for the labor market. It has become necessary to learn modern sciences, especially technological sciences, and computer science. English language proficiency has also become a requirement for most jobs. The government must look for real solutions to solve the unemployment problem, because the risks of unemployment are very bad for both the individual and society.

Short essay on unemployment

The unemployment rate is a real indicator of the state’s economy. When the economy is strong, there are huge projects in various fields. Thus, job opportunities will be available to many of the unemployed.

A strong economy is followed by a circulation of money, sales increase, and imports and exports increase. All of this provides many job opportunities for the unemployed youth. Therefore, there must be projects that absorb the unemployed labor force.

The work is beneficial to both the individual and society, whereby the individual can live a decent life and provide for his family’s needs easily. The society can advance economically, and thus it can progress in all other areas, such as health, education and services.

Technology and unemployment essay

Technology has caused the disappearance of many jobs. The machine has become more accurate and faster than the human being. This made many people lose their jobs, especially in the agricultural and industrial fields. Where the agricultural and industrial sectors absorb large numbers of workers and employees. As for today, it has become mainly dependent on machines.

Also, modern jobs require that the employee be qualified to deal with modern technology, Therefore, young people must develop themselves and learn modern sciences, especially technological sciences.

The educational curricula should also be developed, and provide students with skills required in the labor market.

If everyone does what he should do, the unemployment rate in society will decrease.

Unemployment as a social problem essay

Undoubtedly, unemployment is a social problem that affects not only the individual but also his family, and unemployment has negative effects on society as a whole. The causes of unemployment differ from one society to another. But we can define unemployment as the increase in the number of people looking for a job over the number of people required for this job.

In this case, the person may accept a job that is less than his ambitions, and may refrain from working until he finds a job suitable for his academic qualification.

In all cases, there must be various solutions to this problem, such as encouraging foreign investment, establishing large projects, encouraging the private sector, encouraging self-projects and small projects.

All the previous solutions help to solve the unemployment problem to a large extent.

Problem of unemployment essay

There are negative effects of unemployment, some of which pertain to the individual and others to society.

One of the serious negative effects that the individual is exposed to is his lack of money to buy his basic needs and the needs of his family.

At that time, we expect the person to react badly. He may accept a bribe, steal, or kill in order to get money.

Thus, the crime rate in society will increase.

As a result, investors will flee to safer countries. Thus, job opportunities will decrease further, and thus the unemployed will increase and crimes will increase, and so on. The unemployment problem will only get worse if it is not resolved quickly.

One of the problems facing society as a result of the increase in the unemployment rate is the spread of poverty, and thus the increase in financial allocations to provide aid to unemployed people, and this becomes a burden on the economy of poor countries.

Essay on unemployment in 250 words

Unemployment may signal the beginning of the end of the state. In many countries that collapse and declare bankruptcy, the beginning of the matter is the high unemployment rate in them.

When there are fewer projects, less investment and production, and import becomes much greater than export, it will be difficult to solve the problem of unemployment.

As a result, the crime rate in society increases, and it is difficult to control citizens. Demonstrations and anti-government revolutions erupt, causing the state to collapse.

Therefore, the government must find real solutions to the unemployment problem. Such as encouraging the private sector to set up projects that require a lot of manpower, or allow citizens to immigrate to other countries with good job opportunities.

The damages of unemployment do not affect society only, but also affect the individual, causing him economic problems and represented in his inability to provide for his family’s needs, which causes him psychological and nervous pressure. In many cases, people commit suicide because of their inability to earn enough money for their lives.

The situation with the working class is such that they have to look for employment opportunities as they earn money on a daily basis so they are able to get regular employment by working in a particular place. In this precarious situation, sometimes they get employment and sometimes not, but in the condition of unemployment they try to make a living even if their basic necessities of bread, clothes and house are not met. The condition of the workers of the city is also very similar to that of the rural laborers because they get work from time to time in some house, farm which helps them to make a living.

As you know that the population of literate people is increasing day by day the government is getting unable to accommodate them at the workplaces. Our educated youth are already dissatisfied with the disproportionate wages paid to them and the threat of unemployment makes them even more frustrated. It is very unfortunate that they have to survive on very little money. Since they do not have any practical experience or technical expertise, they are only looking for clerk level jobs which are not enough to accommodate the increasing number of literate people.

Those who have technical qualifications have to face even more disappointment because they do not get a good job equal to their educational qualification. Since the number of people getting technical expertise is increasing day by day, they are also caught in the trap of unemployment. It is good that more and more people are taking education and also going for higher education but sadly the government has failed to provide them good employment opportunities. So the growing anger and frustration among our youth has become evident these days.

But we should think of dealing with this situation instead of increasing our despair, creating self-employment opportunities and channeling our energy in that direction can lead to positive results. In this way the serious problem of unemployment can be reduced to a great extent. That's all I had to say.

Dear Employees!

It is indeed a rare occasion for me where I have got an opportunity to interact with all my employees under one roof. Today there is nothing special that you all are gathered here, but as a director of the company, I realized that there should be communication between me and the employees from time to time. Secondly, if any of you want to discuss any contemplative issue, then please do not keep any kind of nervousness in your mind. Management committee will surely try to solve it or bring necessary changes in the organization.

Due to the increasing recession, I request everyone to cooperate with each other in the work and work unanimously for the betterment of our company. Actually we should consider ourselves lucky that we have job and good growth prospects. Look at people who don't have work or are unemployed despite having a good educational background.

Do you know that the number of people who are not getting jobs is increasing day by day in our country? According to experts, this is mainly due to the economic slowdown and sluggish expansion in business activities, due to which employment generation opportunities are negligible.

Ideally, the government would have to accelerate its development measures to facilitate skill-based training activities so as to bridge the gap between demand and supply of work and provide the required qualifications. It can also help in solving the long term issue of unemployment.

Although there are people who prefer to remain unemployed themselves and are not ready to work. Such people cannot be called unemployed. Unemployment is when a person wants to work but is not able to get a qualified job. There is no doubt that our country is grappling with this serious issue of unemployment. Unfortunately many engineers, doctors, graduates or post graduates are either unemployed or underemployed. Due to rising unemployment the nation is only wasting its human resource or is not able to fully utilize its benefits.

The unemployment rate in India shows an increasing trend since 2011. At that time it was 3.5 percent. Gradually it increased to 3.6% in the year 2012 and in the year 2013 this figure reached to 3.7%. There has been no decline in the unemployment rate since then. In fact it has also been observed that the rate of female unemployment is always higher than the male unemployment rate at every stage of education especially at the higher level.

The very first step that our government should take is to implement strict population control measures and advise people to have small families. After this some simple measures should be taken to improve the quality of Indian education system. Our education system should be more focused on developing skills or imparting practical training rather than limiting theoretical knowledge.

After this, new employment opportunities should be created for setting up small scale cottage industries. When people are self-employed, they will not look for jobs but will themselves employ others in their business.

Now I invite the views of our employees on this issue of unemployment and all of you can also give some suggestions to deal with it.

Honorable Principal, Honorable Teachers and my dear friends! Greetings to all of you from my side.

Before I begin my speech I would like to ask a question to all the senior students that how many of you know what you will do in your future? Maybe none of you know! Today I am here on stage to give a speech on unemployment which is directly related to my question and our future because it is the worst problem which we all can face after completion of our education. . As we all know that India is a huge country of 1.32 billion population and that is why it has become a difficult task for our government to provide employment to all the job seekers in the country. India has about 356 million youth population and probably all of them have a desire to earn money but it is not an easy task if the government provides them jobs.

There are many reasons behind the rise of this problem. Firstly our education system is not suitable. Our education should be job oriented but unfortunately it is fixed to acquire knowledge of the book. In school, students spend all their time in reading and writing books. They need practical knowledge or job oriented knowledge. The second reason is that the population of our country is large. This is due to the lack of knowledge among the people about the values and benefits of small family. Our country has the second largest population in the world due to the lack of education and knowledge which creates a lack of employment for the people living in the country.

There are some schemes and programs which have been started by our Indian government to solve the problem of unemployment in the country. First in 2005, the government introduced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to guarantee 100 days of employment to an unemployed person in a year. It has been implemented in 200 districts and will be expanded to 600 districts. Under this scheme a person is paid Rs 150 per day. India's Ministry of Labor and Employment also launched another scheme called National Career Services Portal, a web portal, (www.ncs.gov.in). With the help of this portal the person who needs the job can get the information about the job updates and vacancies. Private vacancies and contractual jobs available in government sector are available in this portal.

The government has provided another facility. It is a weekly newspaper named Rojgar Samachar which can be accessed every Saturday evening. It gives detailed information about government jobs and vacancies available in India. It also contains information about government exams and recruitment process for government jobs. Apart from these schemes, there is also an option of self-employment through business. If a person starts a company then it can provide employment for many unemployed people and it is also a good solution to this problem.

With this I want to end my speech and I hope that my speech will be useful for your future.

Thank you. have a nice day.

Honorable Principal, Honorable Teachers and my dear friends! Good morning to all of you from my side.

Today this meeting has been organized to discuss a very important aspect which everyone is familiar with i.e. unemployment and as a teacher I have got the opportunity to host this seminar. First of all let me tell you about unemployment that it is a situation when a person who is qualified and eligible for job but he is not getting any work. The problem of unemployment has continued for many years and is still a major issue for every person who is aspiring to find a job.

In a country like India, it becomes a difficult task that the government can provide employment to every job seeker. There are many reasons for the lack of employment in India. One of the reasons for unemployment is that India is a developing country and hence the country is modernizing. There is a shortage of jobs because of the excessive use of technical machines. Industries started using heavy machines in place of many workers and thus the workers became unemployed. Especially old people who do not know about modernization and use of technology are facing many problems.

There are many other reasons for unemployment in our country such as the education system which focuses only on hard knowledge and gives very little practical knowledge. This type of education system is called degree oriented system but we really need that system which is career oriented. If a person has put many years in school and colleges and still he is not ready for job then what is the result of those years and study. Change is needed in our education system.

There may be some business studies which will only help in enhancing the skills of the students. Another reason can also be people's thinking. Everyone wants to do government work but it is impossible. Students need to be encouraged to start their own business. Mainly the parents or teachers create fear in the mind of the student that failure in business or self-employment is certain. This is also one of the reasons for the lack of jobs because if a person starts a business it can provide employment to many job seekers.

One of the main reasons for the lack of job opportunities in India is its population. We see thousands of people competing for a position. India is the second most populous country in the world. It is very difficult to give jobs to lakhs of people in the government sector. There is a need to encourage the interest of the students and show them the right path through which they will be able to defeat this problem. As a teacher I would like to advise you to choose your interest as a career option.

With this, I would like to conclude my speech and would like to give special thanks to our respected Principal Sir for giving me this opportunity.

Thank you. Good day to you all.

Vocatives/Introduction

Mr. Chairman, Panel of Judges, the Headmaster, Guests, Co-debaters, Fellow Students, Ladies and Gentlemen. The motion before the house is “The high incidence of unemployment is responsible for the various crimes in today’s society”. My colleagues and I, on this side, will speak to oppose the motion.

Points to Refute

Please, permit me to quickly correct the erroneous impression created by the last speaker from the other side to the effect that due to lack of jobs people indulge in criminal activities. And, for that matter, if there were employment opportunities crime would not be with us. This assertion is, at best, laughable. It clearly flies in the face of logic. I believe each one of us here is discerning enough to see how porous it is.

  • How to Write a Good Argumentative Essay
  • How to Avoid Deviation in Essay Writing

Mr. Chairman, we all here will attest to the fact that developed countries like the United States of America, Germany and Japan, where jobs are in abundance, are experiencing an upsurge in criminal activities. Armed robbery, human trafficking and fraud are the order of the day even in these countries.

Now, let’s come back to our own backyard here in Ghana. Even though certain individuals are gainfully employed they still commit crimes. Have our opponents forgotten so soon the arrest, prosecution and imprisonment of prominent Ghanaian public servants, professional footballers, musicians and politicians for crimes ranging from drug trafficking, fraud and embezzlement to murder? Can we honestly say that unemployment is responsible for these crimes in our society?

To further strengthen my position on this matter, Ladies and Gentlemen, I call on you to consider the rampant embezzlement of state funds for a moment. Let us ask ourselves this one question: can one embezzle state funds while unemployed? Isn’t it those who are employed in top public positions who perpetrate this heinous crime against the state?

It is obvious that crime in today’s society is a result of greed rather than unemployment. This is why financial crimes involving gainfully employed individuals like managers accountants and cashiers have gained the nickname “white-collar crime”. Indeed, no one can run away from the unimpeachable fact that it is these greedy people, with an insatiable thirst for wealth, who are responsible for most crimes in society. You and i know this truth. These nation-wreckers do not need jobs.

Broken Homes

Mr. Chairman, another major factor responsible for crime in today’s society is the rampant breakdown in marriages. One outcome of a divorce or broken homes is the large army of street children in our towns and cities. These children lack control and guidance from a responsible adult. They have nobody to teach them the norms and values of society. So they grow up to become social misfits. They quickly learn and indulge in such deviant behaviours as pick-pocketing and advance fee fraud (or internet fraud).

Permissive Society

Finally, society as a whole must share in the blame rather than put it all on innocent unemployment. In Ghana today, ill-gotten wealth is worshipped like a deity. Young students who cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be considered unemployed receive the tacit blessing of their parents and relatives to pursue and acquire money and property through unlawful means. They defraud their unsuspecting victims and murder their fellow human beings in their quest for riches.

Closing Remarks

Mr. Chairman, Panel of Judges, Ladies and gentlemen. Granted, unemployment may force a few misguided individuals to engage in certain felonies in order to survive today’s harsh economic conditions. However, judging by the arguments I have advanced so far, it should be clear to all of us that the common criminal you and I encounter these days is not an unemployed person.

Rather, he or she is a well-dressed individual working in one office or the other. Such a deviant is driven by greed, enabled by society’s fallen moral standards or is a product of a certain broken home. Unemployment has got almost nothing to do with it.

Therefore, the motion that “ The high incidence of unemployment is responsible for the various crimes in today’s society” is seriously flawed and cannot stand.

Unemployment issues in the u s there many.

Unemployment Issues in the U.S. There many factors and issues that relate to the unemployment situation in the United States. This paper delves into the unemployment data over the past ten years, and examines the economic conditions that create large numbers of unemployed persons. The paper also looks at the various approaches to unemployment -- the Keynesian viewpoint and the classical viewpoint vis-a-vis unemployment -- and provides scholarly narratives on the subject. Unemployment between the years 2003 and 2013 Department of Labor statistics are quite different from the data used by the Gallup organization -- due to the fact that the DOL apparently, in addition to phone interviews, uses data supplied by employers (which makes the percentages of unemployed persons lower) and the federal data is seasonally adjusted. According to the DOL, in December 2002, the unemployment was at 5.6%; in December 2003, the unemployment rate was 5.6% (Bureau of Labor Statistics --….

Please use graphs as well to explain Unemployment is a particularly high topic in the news at the moment with the recession seemingly refusing to come to a stop and the number of people losing their jobs growing rather than declining. As with all issues, there is a remarkable amount of debate regarding the issues that stimulate this crescendo of unemployment. Classical economics and neoclassical economics both argue that classic market mechanisms such as that of Adam mith are reliable means of economic health and government intervention / interference stimulates unemployment. Unemployment in the Recent Recession A Comparison

Unemployment in the ecent ecession: A Comparison of Cyclical and Marxian Theories The recent (or ongoing) recession has affected the entire globe, though some countries have been harder hit than others. In the United States, unemployment hit higher levels than it has seen in quite some time -- more than doubling at the depth of the recession in 2010 from its pre-recession low (in the current decade) in 2006 and 2007 (USBLS, 2012). Understanding unemployment during a time when money is tight and business is slow might seem easy ("it's the economy, stupid!"), but there are actually many competing or alternate theories of unemployment. At times these theories come into direct conflict with each other, with different explanations offered for the same set of circumstances or trends, yet this does not necessarily mean that different theories or types of unemployment are mutually exclusive -- some are just applicable to specific circumstances.….

Unemployment Insurance Purpose of unemployment insurance Unemployment insurance is schemes under which people that have the capacity to be employed and are out of employment because of reasons that they can control or simply not their fault. Unemployment UK According to the Office of

Unemployment UK According to the Office of National Statistics, the unemployment rate in the UK currently sits at 8%, the highest figure since 1994. The unemployment rate has been in a range between 7.5% and 8.0% since early 2010. The current trends show that youth unemployment is at its highest level since 1992 and that there is no end in sight for the unemployment problem in the UK (Office for National Statistics, 2011). These figures do not include those who are considered inactive -- not actively seeking work. Their numbers have increased as well, to 23.3% of the working age population. Office for National Statistics This paper will analyze the current unemployment problem. It is understood that the current problem is related to the recent recession, as the unemployment rate spiked during and after the recession phase. Some of the causes will analyzed, and the paper will then conclude with an outline of….

Unemployment the Impact of Unemployment

The strong economy of the late 1990s has helped improve the weaknesses in the labor market (ernstein and Houston, 2000). As unemployment rates dropped, crime rates responded as predicted by economic theory. One recent study revealed that the decline in unemployment resulted in a 30% decrease in crime rates from 1992 to 1997. In addition, a review of unemployment, wages, and crime rates by region shows unemployment and crimes rates falling together. According to ernstein and Houston (2000): "As long as crime persists, strong crime prevention measures will be necessary. That is why labor markets, especially low-wage labor markets, can make a difference. To lift the economic prospects of all low-wage workers is not only a worthy economic and social goal; it is one that will pay off in the long run by offering potential criminals a legitimate alternative to crime." As a result of the U.S. chronic unemployment issue, many people….

62. Over the last 12 months, wages rose 3.7%, meaning paychecks are probably trailing inflation, said Lynn Reaser, chief economist at Bank of America's Investment Strategies Group." It can be assumed that this will lead to decreased spending by consumers. The fact that wage rate increase is not staying up with the level of inflation along with the slow down in new jobs may have an additional effect on the lack of consumer spending and sluggish markets when it is coupled with the increasing price of gasoline. "Oil price, which hit a record high of more than $75 a barrel in late April, are now hovering above $71 a barrel. Gasoline prices have topped $3 a gallon in some areas" (Aversa). Unemployment and Crime Rates Safety

With the clear decline of crime-related activities in New York City, it can be easily inferred that unemployment rate started to decline also. This is based in the regression analysis from a different study that shows that as the trend in property crime rates goes down (from 1979 to 1997), the unemployment rate goes down with it. Trends in Adjusted Property Crimes Standardized Wages and Unemployment ate Source: Gould, Weinberg, and Mustard, 2002 Analysis With high unemployment rate, it would mean that a lot of people are stressed. They will be stressed to find for possible means to earn a living that will help provide foods in the table and pay for the basic needs of the family. If there will be no employment opportunities, then a unemployed person will resort to using other means such as robbery or stealing, hold-ups and the likes. More so, some unemployed people will be too stressed to think….

Unemployment Emotional Distresses Which Arise

It showed that financial hardship which is as a result of plant closing was the main factor in negative effect on family life, Broman, Hamilton, & Hoffman, (1990). Individuals who experienced loss of jobs were more likely to face financial hardship. It argued that financial hardship was the strongest intervening variable within the relationship between unemployment and family stress and conflict. As financial hardship level rise, so does tension and conflict level rise between family members. In order for human services to alleviate the negative effects of unemployment they may be required to concentrate on maintenance of the income all through the period of unemployment. This problem of unemployment which results to stress and conflict in the family can also be minimized through ignoring unemployment compensation and concentrating on public works. However, public works are not enough, since a new super highway within Oklahoma cannot provide work to the unemployed worker….

Unemployment and Its Effects on

Sometimes, unemployment precipitates a change in career for practical purposes or even the complete abandonment career goals when the need to earn a paycheck outweighs the need to develop along-term profession. Whereas older workers have already established a career to which they could return, when young people change careers early in life, that choice tends to dictate the course of their professional lives much more profoundly. There are also negative consequences associated with unemployment among young people that pertain to personal health, happiness, and longevity. High rates of unemployment among young people is responsible for their continued dependence on parents and family long after they would otherwise have begun establishing independent lives of their own. In addition to the disruption of life for parents, this contributes to low self-esteem and lower levels of confidence among young workers even after they do eventually find employment. Young people who experience unemployment are….

Unemployment Is a Troubling Problem That Affects

Unemployment is a troubling problem that affects every area of the economic sector. In times of economic turmoil, unemployment rates typically increase for workers from all industries, influenced by a number of economic indicators, including consumer confidence, inflation, government spending, and economic growth. As economic conditions decline, businesses of all types are affected, and as a result, they must cut costs, often in the form of job cuts. Unemployment results in a number of economic and emotional consequences for those affected. The following discussion will distinguish between two types of unemployment and its various causes as well as the influence of the events of September 11 and afterward that have resulted in higher rates of unemployment across the United States. Causes of Unemployment In the fourth quarter of 2002, unemployment rates soared to 6%, the highest jobless rate since 1995 (Cooper 25). Despite promising indicators that an improvement will be seen in the….

Unemployment Is Considered to Be a Lagging

Unemployment is considered to be a lagging indicator, but even so it would seem that the unemployment rate should be dropping faster than it is, now that economic recovery is underway. The current unemployment rate in the United States is 7.3%, up from 7.2% the month previous but otherwise at the lowest level since late 2008. This level is much higher than the pre-recession norm of 5% or lower Whether unemployment is lagging too much or not is a question that cannot be answered without a benchmark. We know that the stock market is a proxy for economic activity, but as a leading indicator it is quite removed from the unemployment rate. Furthermore, many U.S. companies do a lot of business internationally. The success of Starbucks in China will move the stock but has nothing to do with U.S. unemployment. So GDP tends to be one of the best benchmarks for….

When food and energy -- two especially volatile and important price categories -- are removed from the picture however, prices actually rose two tenths of one percent in March. This is another sign that things are far more complicated than they seem. ccording to the most recent news release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 299,388 worker lost their jobs in 2,933 mass layoff events (where fifty or more employees were let go from a single employer). This is one hundred and sixty four more mass layoff events than occurred in February, and the number of individual claims that has come as the result of these layoffs has increased by 3,911 -- this is not the number of claims, but the additional number of claims made in March as compared to February. This is also over one thousand more layoff events than occurred in the same month last year, corresponding….

Adding to all of this complex (and admittedly oversimplified) interaction is the factor of inflation. One common measure of inflation is the Consumer Price Index, which actually dropped by one tenth of one percent in March when compared to February. Prices dropped slightly in February also, and through most of the last quarter of 2008, but rose significantly in December and January. When food and energy -- two especially volatile and important price categories -- are removed from the picture however, prices actually rose two tenths of one percent in March. This is another sign that things are far more complicated than they seem.

According to the most recent news release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 299,388 worker lost their jobs in 2,933 mass layoff events (where fifty or more employees were let go from a single employer). This is also over one thousand more layoff events than occurred in the same month last year, corresponding to 137,891 more associated unemployment claims. The total unemployment rate of eight-and-a-half percent compares to a five percent rate for March of last year.

Not everyone who isn't working is unemployed; the working definition of unemployment is someone who is of age and skill to be employed, and who wishes and needs to be employed (i.e. does not have a spouse/parent/child/other supporting them), but who cannot find a job. Inflation is basically the rise in the cost of goods. Generally, some inflation is a good thing -- people make more money, which means they are paid more to produce things, which means the prices of these things go up, which means people need to make more....it is a normal part of the cycle. When things get out of whack, however, inflation can rise too quickly. The government could try -- and is, in fact -- to use macroeconomic policy to address these issues. Keeping the cost of energy lower could increase business, but a lot more change is needed to turn things around and create more jobs, and this might have to take place on a micro level.

Unemployment Rate in the United States Has

Unemployment rate in the United States has fluctuated between nine and ten percent for well over two years now ("Labor Force Statistics"). That rate is more than double what it was a mere ten years ago, putting millions more Americans on the unemployment compensation rolls. More alarming than the numbers is the general feeling of pessimism that has enveloped the country as the population wonders when the economy might turn around. To most of the unemployed there appears to be no end in sight. Many of these unemployed are not even receiving any unemployment compensation from the government. At the end of March 2011, only 5.8 million of the estimated 13.2 million unemployed were collecting unemployment insurance (Hagenbaugh). Of course these statistics were key components of the 2008 election won by Barack Obama. All candidates realized the importance of the economy in the election and each drew up a plan to….

The problem to be solved was not a shortage of goods, but rather a shortage of spending. Some has dismissed these principles largely on the basis that governments cannot run deficits indefinitely or because in doing so they are sacrificing growth in later years, resulting in a trade-off that negates today's benefits with tomorrow's debt repayments. I do not inherently agree with such arguments, because the time value of money suggests that future repayments are perhaps not as onerous as they may seem today. Moreover, if we are to have anything of a welfare state, then deficit spending to create private sector employment will have a positive affect on GDP. Juxtaposed against Johnson's portrayal of the Soviet economic model, it would stand that Johnson takes his views about creating employment in Manchester and Salford more from the idea that public employment can be sustained indefinitely, for the benefit of all. Unemployment Essay

500+ words essay on unemployment.

Unemployment is a serious problem among young people. There are thousands of people who do not have any work to do and cannot find work for themselves. Unemployment refers to the situation where a person wants to work but cannot find employment in the labour market. One of the major reasons that contribute to unemployment is the large population of India and the limited availability of resources. In this essay on unemployment, we will discuss all these issues responsible for unemployment in India and how we can overcome this problem. Students must go through this unemployment essay to get ideas on how to write an effective essay on the topic related to unemployment. Also, they can practice more CBSE essays on different topics to boost their writing skills.

Unemployment is measured by the unemployment rate, defined as the number of people actively looking for a job as a percentage of the labour force. The unemployment rate for the year 2013-14 in rural India was 4.7%, whereas it was 5.5% for urban India. In the short term, unemployment significantly reduces a person’s income and, in the long term, it reduces their ability to save for retirement and other goals. Unemployment is a loss of valuable productive resources to the economy. The impact of job loss in rural and regional areas flows through the local community, damaging businesses.

Reason for Unemployment

An unemployed person is one who is an active member of the labour force and is seeking work but is unable to find any work for himself. There are multiple reasons behind the unemployment of a person. One of them is the slow economic growth, due to which jobs in adequate numbers are not created. Excessive dependence on agriculture and slow growth of non-farm activities also limit employment generation. Unemployment in urban areas is mainly the result of substantial rural migration to urban areas. This has also resulted in a labour workforce in cities. The lack of technology and proper machinery has also contributed to unemployment.

The present educational system is based on theoretical knowledge instead of practical work. Thus, it lacks the development of aptitude and technical qualifications required for various types of work among job seekers. This has created a mismatch between the need and availability of relevant skills and training. This results in unemployment, especially among the youth and educated people with high degrees and qualifications. Apart from it, the lack of investment and infrastructure has led to inadequate employment opportunities in different sectors.

Steps to Eliminate Unemployment

Various strategies and proposals have been implemented to generate employment. Many Employment programmes and policies have been introduced and undertaken to boost self-employment and help unemployed people engage in public works. The Government of India has taken several policy measures to fight the problem of unemployment. Some of the measures are the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), National Skill Development Mission, Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY), Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).

Despite the measures taken by the government, India remains a country experiencing severe unemployment problems. It can be resolved by imparting education in such a way that youth get the necessary skills so as to get employment easily. Setting up various vocational training and vocational courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students will help in finding employment for youth. The government needs to emphasise these courses at the primary level and make them a compulsory part of the curriculum to make students proficient in their early stages of life. Career counselling should be provided within schools and colleges so that students can choose a better career option based on their interests and ability. Government should create more job opportunities for the youth and graduates.

India is a fast-growing economy. There is an enormous scope for improvement in the unemployment sector. The various measures and steps taken by the government to increase the employment rate have succeeded to a great extent. The widespread skill development programmes have gained popularity across the nation. With better enforcement of the strategies, the employment level can be significantly improved. Although, we have to go a long way before we can say that all the people in India will get employment.

Speech on Poverty

Poverty is not just a lack of money, it’s a complex issue that touches many areas of life. It’s about not having enough food, a safe place to live, or access to basic services like education or healthcare.

You might think poverty only affects people in far-off places, but it’s closer than you think. Even in the wealthiest countries, many people struggle every day just to meet their basic needs.

1-minute Speech on Poverty

Hello, friends!

Let’s talk about a critical issue – poverty. It’s the state when people can’t get the basic things they need to live, like food, clothes, and a place to live. It’s a problem not just in one country or one region, but all over the world.

Imagine not knowing if you’ll eat today or not. Imagine wearing the same clothes every day, no matter if they’re torn or dirty. It’s a tough life, right? That’s what poverty looks like. Many people face this situation every day. It’s sad, but it’s the truth.

Now, why does poverty exist? Some people are born into poor families. Some lose their jobs and can’t find a new one. Sometimes, natural disasters like floods or earthquakes destroy everything they have. The reasons are many, and they’re all hard to control.

But there’s hope. We can all do something to help. We can donate clothes, food, or money to people in need. Schools can offer free meals to students from poor families. Companies can give jobs to those who can’t find work. Governments can build affordable houses for the homeless.

We can’t end poverty in one day. It’s a big task. But every small action counts. If every one of us does a little bit, we can make a big change. Remember, a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

In the end, let’s not forget about poverty. Let’s keep talking about it, learning about it and doing what we can to help. Because in a world as rich as ours, no one should have to live in poverty. Thank you.

2-minute Speech on Poverty

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We’re here today to talk about a topic that is very real and very serious — poverty. Imagine not having enough food to eat, or a safe place to live, or even a warm sweater when it’s cold. That’s what poverty means. It’s when people don’t have the basic things they need to live a decent life.

In our modern world, it’s surprising that poverty still exists. It’s sad to see that in a world full of riches, some people go to bed hungry every night. In some parts of the world, kids don’t go to school because they can’t afford books or uniforms. They have to work instead, to help their families. It’s not fair, is it?

Poverty is like a big, scary monster. It’s not just about being hungry or cold. It affects people’s health too. When people are poor, they can’t afford to see a doctor or buy medicine. They get sick more often and stay sick longer. It makes life very hard and stressful.

But why does poverty exist? There are many reasons. Sometimes, it’s because of bad luck. Maybe there’s a drought, and the crops fail. Or maybe someone gets sick and can’t work. But often, it’s because of things that are unfair. Maybe some people have a lot of money and power, and they don’t share it with others. Or maybe the rules of the society are not fair, and they make it hard for poor people to improve their lives.

So, what can we do about poverty? It’s a big problem, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fight it. We can start by being aware of the problem. We can learn about poverty and talk about it. And we can help. We can donate money or food to people who need it. We can also volunteer our time to help in soup kitchens or community centers. And we can make sure that our leaders know that we care about poverty, and we want them to do something about it.

Remember, every person can make a difference. You might think that you’re just one person, and you can’t do much. But that’s not true. If each one of us does a little bit, it adds up to a lot. And together, we can beat the monster of poverty.

In conclusion, poverty is a big problem, but not a hopeless one. We can beat it if we work together. Let’s all do our part and make the world a better place for everyone. Because everyone deserves a chance to live a good life, don’t they?

How to Write    Speech

Simple english speech on unemployment for students and children.

We, as a whole, realize that India, as a country is managing the issue of unemployment and our administration and government, is attempting to execute some essential measures for employment to the general population of its nation. The young people of the country are struggling because of no or not those good openings for employment.

Since it's such a relevant issue for us all, everybody is seen tending to this issue either openly or at school, universities, and so forth to educate the majority of individuals. In this manner, now and again, one needs to compose a short speech on unemployment, and here we are providing a few speeches on unemployment for your guidance.

Example #1 of Simple English Speech on Unemployment for Students and Children

Regarded Managers and Dear Colleagues!

As the expanding danger of recession is approaching over our heads, it has turned out to be essential to discuss it at any cost in our organization. We, as a whole, realize that our co-employees are being laid off because of the shortage of work and the diminishing finance of our association. It's a period that should be taken care of with most extreme tolerance and creativity.

We never realize that one day while strolling through the workplace, any of us might be told by our supervisor, "Sorry, yet it's your last day in the workplace today." Presently all of you more likely than not began mulling over what you will do at that point, how you will earn and run your family. So how about we face this circumstance with smartness and understanding.

In any case, before we start the discussion or talk, it would be ideal if you allow me to present a brief speech on unemployment, so you have knowledge into the things and can assess your conditions with the circumstances and examples of the many. Trust me; it will give you a great deal of support to overcome the situation confidently.

There are mainly three types of unemployment – labor class, uneducated, educated individuals without being technically qualified and at last, technical individuals, for example, engineers. Let us discuss them one by one.

With labor class, the circumstance is to such an extent that they need to continually search for open doors for work, as they earn every day; consequently, they engage themselves at a specific spot to have the option to get regular employment or daily wages. In this problematic circumstance, sometimes they able to get employment opportunities and sometimes not. In any case, they have habituated themselves to survive in the extreme condition even though it is baffling now and again for them too when they are unfit to meet their necessities of food and clothes. The circumstance is the same for the city employees too as they also have to figure out how to get regular labor in some huge ranch or field, which help them to survive.

As the number of illiterate individuals is growing every day, the administration is unfit to engage them in laboring environments. As of now, our educated youth is discontented with the low wages given to them, and the risk of unemployment also leaves them disappointed. It is very deplorable that they are made to follow the wrong paths sometimes. Since they don't have any viable experience or technical mastery, they end up searching for third or fourth-grade jobs, which is insufficient to engage the growing number of educated individuals.

In the same way, the individuals who have technical specialization get significantly disappointed because they are unfit to get a decent line of work or employment to match the standard of their academic ability. Since the number of individuals getting technical specialization is growing rapidly, hence they also get captured in the snare of unemployment.

It's really nice to see the increasing number of individuals are educating themselves and are likewise going for higher educational fields as well, yet unfortunately, the administration is not able to provide them with the decent work opportunities. Henceforth, the growing anger and dissatisfaction of our youngsters have turned out to be so obvious nowadays.

But rather than increasing our disappointment and frustration, we should consider fighting this circumstance, might be through creating self-employment and channelizing our energy toward that path. Like this, the grave issue of unemployment can be handled significantly. That is all I need to state.

Thank You, Everybody,

Example #2 of Simple English Speech on Unemployment for Students and Children

Dear Employees!

It's a special event that I get the opportunity to interface with every one of my employees under one rooftop. There is nothing extraordinary in the present day and behind our coming here; anyway, as a manager of the organization, I understood that there should be no communication gap among my employees and me.

Also, on the off chance that there is any worry or issue with any of you, at that point, please don't hesitate to put it over my table. The administration would positively attempt to determine it or would do the essential changes in the association.

During the developing recession time, I would demand everyone to hold hands together and work collectively towards the improvement of our organization. Indeed, we ought to view ourselves as blessed that we have nice projects and excellent development prospects. Take a gander at the individuals who are not genuinely employed or are jobless regardless of a decent education.

Do you realize that the number of individuals, who are without an occupation, is growing step by step in our nation? As indicated by experts, this is predominantly inferable from the economic low and sluggish industrial growth that has resulted in low employment generation.

Ideally, the government ought to speed up its development measures to encourage skill-based employment with the goal that the gap between the supply of skills and demand can be fulfilled. This can likewise help settle the long term issue of unemployment.

Even though there are individuals who stay jobless by the decision and are not willing to work, then it won't be named as unemployment. Unemployment is that circumstance when an individual wish to work; however, can't discover for himself/herself a proper job opportunity. I am sure that our country is thinking about this grave issue of unemployment. Sadly, numerous architects, specialists, graduates, or even postgraduates are either jobless or underemployed. Because of rising unemployment, the country is only squandering its human resource or can't able to unleash the advantages completely.

The most significant step that our administration should take is to authorize strict population control measures and make aware the individuals to have small families. Some careful measures ought to be taken to improve the nature of the Indian education system. Our education system ought to be increasingly centered around giving practical abilities not just restricted to provide the theoretical knowledge.

In this way, new employment opportunities ought to be made by setting up small-scale industries and promoting self-employment. At the point when individuals will start engaging themselves in self-employment, they will not only generate employment for themselves also for other people.

Now, may I welcome the suggestions of my employees on this issue of unemployment and also some reliable recommendations to battle it.

Much thanks to you!

Unemployment Speech

We all know that India as a nation is dealing with the problem of unemployment and our government is trying to implement some effective measures to grant employment to the people of its country. The youth of the nation is suffering due to no or incompatible job opportunities. Since it’s such a pertinent issue for all of us, everyone is seen addressing this issue either publicly or at school, colleges, etc in order to educate the masses. Therefore, at times one needs to prepare a brief speech on unemployment. And if you are looking to prepare one in order to impress your teacher or leave an impact on your audience, then you may refer to our both short and long speech on unemployment and complete your task without any hassles.

The biggest mistakes people make when filing for unemployment—and how to avoid them

thumbnail

Roughly 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment in the last month while the coronavirus pandemic upended the U.S. economy. But those numbers only account for people who've been able to get past site crashes, never-ending wait times by phone and other logistical challenges in order to file an unemployment claim with their state office.

On top of the surge in activity, it's taken several weeks for the U.S. Department of Labor to issue guidance to states, which administer unemployment programs, and for states to start distributing boosted unemployment checks to a wider pool of workers as part of the $2.2 trillion stimulus bill .

Experts say there are several common mistakes people make when they file for unemployment for the first time that can delay a claim, especially now when resources are stretched thin. Here's how you can avoid those mistakes.

You don't apply for unemployment insurance.

If determining whether you're eligible for unemployment, and actually applying for it, seems complex, that's because it is. Every state determines who qualifies for unemployment aid and what the application process entails.

Recently, unemployment assistance has opened up to include nearly every person who's lost work, through no fault of their own, due to the coronavirus.

"The biggest question I've been getting is, 'My circumstance is X-Y-Z — should I apply?'" says Michele Evermore, senior policy analyst at the National Employment Law Project, a nonprofit research firm. "And the answer to that is almost always 'yes.'"

Workers will qualify for aid if they were laid off, furloughed or had their hours cut. You can also check with your state's department of labor to determine additional eligibility, such as if you lost work because you were diagnosed with Covid-19, you're providing care to a family member with the virus, you have to care for a child due to school closures, you're unable to get to work due to closures or other qualifying reasons.

People who've seen a reduction in work hours and wages due to the virus may qualify for partial unemployment.

"In this particular period in history, getting an unemployment check isn't good just for you, but it's good for the local economy, and it's an important public health measure," Evermore says. "People need to take these benefits and not be making ends meet by going out to work."

You think only full-time employees are eligible for unemployment.

It might seem like unemployment coverage is available only to people who lost their jobs as full-time employees. And prior to the pandemic, part-time employees could receive benefits only in some states.

But now, under the newly created Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program , people who previously didn't qualify for unemployment insurance, such as self-employed workers, independent contractors, gig workers and part-time employees, now qualify for federal aid.

These workers will likely be asked to provide as much earning history as possible from the previous year, whether that's through 1099 tax forms, invoice statements or proofs of deposit into a bank account.

Workers who can't provide this will qualify for a minimum benefit of half their state's average unemployment payout for up to 39 weeks, plus $600 per week until July 31.

What it's like to be a working drag queen in NYC

It's possible you can claim some benefit even if you don't have any work history at all.

The stimulus bill says workers can qualify for aid if they recently received a job offer to start working, but that offer was rescinded due to the coronavirus (for example, the business closed or the position was eliminated).

Evermore suggests these workers keep an eye out for when they'll be able to apply for and receive federal aid under the PUA program in their state.

You don't understand why your claim is pending.

It typically takes a week for an unemployment claim to be verified by the state, says Edgar Ndjatou, executive director at Workplace Fairness, a nonprofit advocacy organization. During this time, agency reviewers must confirm with your previous employer the details of your work history, earnings and reason for leaving. They might also need to call you to verify details of your claim.

However, given the unprecedented level of unemployment claims, this traditional week-long process is likely to take much longer than usual.

"I can't see anybody not waiting a little while to get their benefits," Evermore says. She points out that unemployment offices are beefing up their capacity to handle activity by hiring more phone representatives, overhauling outdated websites and expanding service hours.

It's also possible your claim is still pending because you qualify for a program that hasn't rolled out in your state yet.

New York , for example, allowed self-employed workers to start filing claims in late March but marked submissions as "pending" until it rolled out the systems to handle PUA applications this week.

If your application is, in fact, stuck in limbo due to an error (because there's missing or incorrect information, for example), you should receive a notification of how to fix it. You'll be directed to make the correction either online or by phone. This can cause a delay of several weeks.

You assume a denied claim means you're completely ineligible.

As of this week, Evermore says Michigan, Texas, Louisiana, Rhode Island, Iowa, Pennsylvania and North Dakota are among the few states that have already   opened their filing systems to account for applications to the new PUA program.

If you live in a state where PUA hasn't been implemented yet, your application could be denied until your unemployment office is ready to start accepting claims from self-employed, freelance and gig workers. When your state does start accepting these claims, you might have to file a new claim, or your previously denied claim could be reviewed under the new rules.

When Michigan opened its new PUA system last week, for example, the agency noted workers who are newly eligible to receive benefits, but had previously applied and were denied coverage, should log into their accounts and go through its updated PUA process.

Ndjatou adds that unemployment claims are often denied if they don't have enough detailed information about your reason for filing.

"Be very descriptive about the reason why you're unemployed or furloughed," he says. Provide as much information and supporting documentation as possible.

Another reason a claim might be denied is if your employer says you quit on your own.

Details here matter. Under the relief bill, some workers may be eligible for unemployment if they quit their jobs as a direct result of coronavirus.

"If you quit because of Covid-19, not just because you're afraid of the virus necessarily but if, for example, your child's school was closed or you had to care for a family member who got sick, you have to be clear about that," Ndjatou says.

If someone is denied unemployment insurance coverage, they can try to appeal the decision.   The deadlines to appeal and processes vary by state, so check with your local unemployment office website for more details.

You forget your password.

With overloaded websites and phone lines, now's an especially crucial time to keep track of your username and password when you create an account with your state's unemployment office. If you lose any of these details, it could seriously delay your application process.

Evermore says in some states, the only way to reset a forgotten password is to call the agency's phone line, which won't be quick or easy these days. Don't count on getting an email to reset a password either; overloaded websites may not have the capacity to send these out in a timely manner, if at all.

"In some states, the agency will have to physically mail you your password," Evermore says.

Bottom line: "Make absolutely sure you keep track of your password."

You don't account for taxes.

Don't forget that unemployment earnings count as taxable income, including the extra $600 per week provided by the stimulus bill. Federal income tax is withheld at a rate of 10%, and you may owe state taxes depending on where you live.

You can elect to either have withholdings taken out from the start of your benefit period, or you may be required to make quarterly estimated payments . Either way, make a plan for paying taxes on your unemployment benefit.

Ultimately, "Unemployment insurance is an earned benefit," Evermore says. "People have an entitlement to it if they lose work through no fault of their own. People should see it that way and do everything they can to access their benefit."
