To make a transcript of an audio file simply register to our transcription software AudioScripto.

Select the language of your audio file and upload it. Once the file has been uploaded, the transcription will start. You will receive an email a few minutes later informing you that your audio file has been transcribed and that the transcription is ready.

Who can transcribe audio or video files?

There are several companies that offer transcription services or tools that can transcribe audio or video files into text. It can be done manually or automatically. The choice between both options will depend on your needs.

Is automatic transcription better than human transcription services?

It actually depends on your needs but automatic transcriptions have some advantages vs human transcriptions.

An automatic transcription tool like AudioScripto :

  • Is faster than a human : upload your file, wait a few minutes and receive the transcription of your audio or video file,
  • Will complete the transcription almost instantly : you are sure that the transcription will be completed within the deadline,
  • Is cheaper than human transcriptions,
  • Avoid human errors : you avoid the uncertainty of choosing the wrong person for the job.

Despite the fact that human transcription is much slower than automated transcription tools, the quality of the transcription is supposed to be better than the automated transcription. But this depends on the person that is transcribing your audio or video files. Thanks to artificial intelligence and machine learning, the quality of automated transcription gets better every single day!

How Our TTS Voices Are Made

To create our speech personas, we select and record professional voice talents.

Once a voice talent has been selected, she or he works with our voice development team for several days or weeks, depending on the type of voice, or the voice technology, we want to use.

A diverse script is used for the recordings, designed to contain all the sound patterns of the language in development. The team closely monitors the recording process to check for consistency in pronunciation, accentuation, and style.

Neural Voices

ReadSpeaker creates so-called neural voices, using techniques based on deep learning AI technology. This revolutionary method involves mapping linguistic properties to acoustic features using Deep Neural Networks (DNNs)

An iterative learning process minimises objectively measurable differences between the predicted acoustic features and the observed acoustic features in the training set.

One of the advantages of the new DNN TTS method is that the acoustic database can be much smaller than for a USS voice. Only a few hours of recorded speech are needed for a neural voice, compared to at least three times as many for a good quality USS voice.

Also, the resulting speech is generally smoother and even more human-like. This makes developing new, smart ReadSpeaker TTS voices with even more lifelike, expressive speech and customizable intonation faster than ever.

Custom voices

If your strategy is to offer an exclusive customer experience and you want to take your brand appeal to a new level, one of the most powerful ways to differentiate yourself is by using a custom voice to represent you.

A custom voice sets your brand apart and creates a powerful bond with your customers across your various communication touchpoints. If a preferred celebrity or other talent reflects your brand best and you want to be able to use their voice anytime you need it.

ReadSpeaker can create a custom TTS voice powered by our leading-edge speech engine, to give your brand instant recognition in the voice user interface.

Voice   Generator

This web app allows you to generate voice audio from text - no login needed, and it's completely free! It uses your browser's built-in voice synthesis technology, and so the voices will differ depending on the browser that you're using. You can download the audio as a file, but note that the downloaded voices may be different to your browser's voices because they are downloaded from an external text-to-speech server. If you don't like the externally-downloaded voice, you can use a recording app on your device to record the "system" or "internal" sound while you're playing the generated voice audio.

Want more voices? You can download the generated audio and then use voicechanger.io to add effects to the voice. For example, you can make the voice sound more robotic, or like a giant ogre, or an evil demon. You can even use it to reverse the generated audio, randomly distort the speed of the voice throughout the audio, add a scary ghost effect, or add an "anonymous hacker" effect to it.

Note: If the list of available text-to-speech voices is small, or all the voices sound the same, then you may need to install text-to-speech voices on your device. Many operating systems (including some versions of Android, for example) only come with one voice by default, and the others need to be downloaded in your device's settings. If you don't know how to install more voices, and you can't find a tutorial online, you can try downloading the audio with the download button instead. As mentioned above, the downloaded audio uses external voices which may be different to your device's local ones.

You're free to use the generated voices for any purpose - no attribution needed. You could use this website as a free voice over generator for narrating your videos in cases where don't want to use your real voice. You can also adjust the pitch of the voice to make it sound younger/older, and you can even adjust the rate/speed of the generated speech, so you can create a fast-talking high-pitched chipmunk voice if you want to.

Note: If you have offline-compatible voices installed on your device (check your system Text-To-Speech settings), then this web app works offline! Find the "add to homescreen" or "install" button in your browser to add a shortcut to this app in your home screen. And note that if you don't have an internet connection, or if for some reason the voice audio download isn't working for you, you can also use a recording app that records your devices "internal" or "system" sound.

OpenAI Unveils A.I. Technology That Recreates Human Voices

The start-up is sharing the technology, Voice Engine, with a small group of early testers as it tries to understand the potential dangers.

  • Share full article

The sun sets behind a large concrete and glass building.

By Cade Metz

Reporting from San Francisco

First, OpenAI offered a tool that allowed people to create digital images simply by describing what they wanted to see. Then, it built similar technology that generated full-motion video like something from a Hollywood movie.

Now, it has unveiled technology that can recreate someone’s voice.

The high-profile A.I. start-up said on Friday that a small group of businesses was testing a new OpenAI system, Voice Engine, that can recreate a person’s voice from a 15-second recording. If you upload a recording of yourself and a paragraph of text, it can read the text using a synthetic voice that sounds like yours.

The text does not have to be in your native language. If you are an English speaker, for example, it can recreate your voice in Spanish, French, Chinese or many other languages.

OpenAI is not sharing the technology more widely because it is still trying to understand its potential dangers. Like image and video generators, a voice generator could help spread disinformation across social media. It could also allow criminals to impersonate people online or during phone calls.

The company said it was particularly worried that this kind of technology could be used to break voice authenticators that control access to online banking accounts and other personal applications.

“This is a sensitive thing, and it is important to get it right,” an OpenAI product manager, Jeff Harris, said in an interview.

The company is exploring ways of watermarking synthetic voices or adding controls that prevent people from using the technology with the voices of politicians or other prominent figures.

Last month, OpenAI took a similar approach when it unveiled its video generator, Sora. It showed off the technology but did not publicly release it.

OpenAI is among the many companies that have developed a new breed of A.I. technology that can quickly and easily generate synthetic voices. They include tech giants like Google as well as start-ups like the New York-based ElevenLabs. (The New York Times has sued OpenAI and its partner, Microsoft, on claims of copyright infringement involving artificial intelligence systems that generate text.)

Businesses can use these technologies to generate audiobooks, give voice to online chatbots or even build an automated radio station DJ. Since last year, OpenAI has used its technology to power a version of ChatGPT that speaks . And it has long offered businesses an array of voices that can be used for similar applications. All of them were built from clips provided by voice actors.

But the company has not yet offered a public tool that would allow individuals and businesses to recreate voices from a short clip as Voice Engine does. The ability to recreate any voice in this way, Mr. Harris said, is what makes the technology dangerous. The technology could be particularly dangerous in an election year, he said.

In January, New Hampshire residents received robocall messages that dissuaded them from voting in the state primary in a voice that was most likely artificially generated to sound like President Biden . The Federal Communications Commission later outlawed such calls .

Mr. Harris said OpenAI had no immediate plans to make money from the technology. He said the tool could be particularly useful to people who lost their voices through illness or accident.

He demonstrated how the technology had been used to recreate a woman’s voice after brain cancer damaged it. She could now speak, he said, after providing a brief recording of a presentation she had once made as a high schooler.

News  and Analysis

OpenAI unveiled Voice Engine , an A.I. technology that can recreate a person’s voice from a 15-second recording.

Amazon said it had added $2.75 billion to its investment in Anthropic , an A.I. start-up that competes with companies like OpenAI and Google.

Gov. Bill Lee of Tennessee signed a bill  to prevent the use of A.I. to copy a performer’s voice. It is the first such measure in the United States.

French regulators said Google failed to notify news publishers  that it was using their articles to train its A.I. algorithms, part of a wider ruling against the company for its negotiating practices with media outlets.

Microsoft 365 Life Hacks > Writing > What is the active voice?

What is the active voice?

When you’re writing, it’s important to follow fundamental grammar rules. Grammar rules, like subject-verb agreement and punctuation, are the building blocks for constructing sentences effectively, ensuring your writing is concise and comprehensible. Learn about the active voice and examples of its usage to improve your writing’s brevity and clarity.

A close-up of text on a book

Active voice versus passive voice

Writing should be easy to follow—it’s all about ensuring a subject carries out an action. When appropriate, the action can flow into the next sentence, ideas can build upon each other. The active voice is a key component for promoting clarity in your writing, ensuring that your sentences are easy to understand.

When you employ the active voice effectively, the subject should be placed before the verb. For instance, in the active sentence, “The host ended the party,” the subject is “the host,” and it performs the action, “ended,” upon the object, “the party.” In contrast, when you invert the order, as in “The party was ended by the host,” the sentence becomes passive, starting with the object and concluding with the subject. This change in structure can make the sentence confusing and harder to grasp. Writing in an active voice not only enhances clarity but also results in more concise sentences, as it eliminates the need for extraneous prepositions like “by.”

Elevate your writing and collaborate with others - anywhere, anytime

To further illustrate the difference between passive and active voice, here are a few more examples:

  • Active: The parrot repeated my words. (The subject is “the parrot”.)
  • Passive: My words were repeated by the parrot. (The subject is after the verb.)
  • Active: The janitor jangled his heavy keys down the hall. (The subject is “the janitor”.)
  • Passive: The heavy keys were jangled down the hall by the janitor. (The subject follows the verb.)

An occasional passive sentence won’t make your writing entirely incomprehensible, but it’s preferable to use active voice as much as possible. Active voice simplifies your writing and delivers effective communication to your audience.

Tips for using an active voice

To ensure an active voice in your writing, try some of the following tips:

Pair an action verb with the subject

Start your sentences with a subject paired with an action verb. This sentence construction creates direct, concise, and active sentences making your writing accessible and clear.

Move the subject from the end of the sentence to the beginning

To transform passive sentences into active ones, start with the subject if it’s at the end of the sentence. Move the subject to the beginning, pair it with an action verb, and conclude with the object.

Review sentences that use the verb “be”

Passive writing often includes forms of the word “be” like “am,” “is,” “are,” and “were.” While not always the case, eliminating “be” from your writing enhances clarity and conciseness. For instance:

  • Passive: The dogs were walking toward me.
  • Active: The dogs walked toward me.

Pay close attention to how frequently you use versions of the word “be” in your sentences; selective usage can elevate your writing’s quality.

The active voice is a fundamental component of high-quality writing. By consistently, incorporating the active voice into your writing, you ensure your message is easily understood by your readers. If you need more ways to improve clarity in your writing, learn more writing tips .

No, California’s wage bump for fast food workers isn’t doomsday for restaurants. Here’s why

As the minimum wage for fast food workers increases in California, many headlines are predicting mass layoffs and price increases. These headlines are based on an outdated theory that doesn’t apply to fast food restaurants, argue two economists.

Guest Commentary written by

Michael Reich

Michael Reich

Michael Reich is an economics professor and chair of UC Berkeley’s Center on Wage and Employment Dynamics at the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment.

Justin Wiltshire

Justin Wiltshire

Justin Wiltshire is an assistant professor of economics at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, and an affiliate of UC Berkeley’s Center on Wage and Employment Dynamics at the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment.

Today, the minimum wage for California fast food workers will increase to $20 an hour, or 25% above the state’s $16 level. And a first-of-its-kind fast food council will give workers, employers and state government the opportunity to come together and set standards for the industry.

But rather than celebrating, many headlines are predicting mass layoffs , major burger price increases and even the end of fast food as we know it in California.

These headlines reflect an unsophisticated understanding of an outmoded and simplistic theory: In Econ 101, if you increase the price of labor, employers will use less of it or pass along the higher costs to consumers.

This explanation ignores that fast food restaurants have and use their power to set wages and employment levels well below the Econ 101 level. The modern theory of labor markets actually recognizes employers’ wage-setting power and that a higher minimum wage can help overcome this power, ultimately raising both pay and employment.

Outside the theoretical world, economists have conducted hundreds of studies on the actual effects of minimum wage. They repeatedly find that increasing the minimum wage raises the pay of low-wage workers, without leading to even minor job losses . Prices increase by minimal amounts that are too small to deter anyone from buying a burger or taco.

Our latest contribution  to this research looked at what happened in fast food restaurants after California and New York nearly doubled their minimum wage to $15 over seven and a half years, from the end of 2013 to the beginning of 2022. We compared federal data on fast food jobs in the 36 most populous counties in California and New York – where the minimum wage jumped dramatically – to similar combinations of counties in states that kept the minimum wage at the federal level of $7.25 an hour.

We found that fast food employment in California and New York did not fall, compared to employment trends in the lower-wage areas. In fact, in the low-unemployment years after the pandemic, fast food employers in the $15 counties added workers.

Pizza Hut operators in California recently announced they were laying off delivery drivers and would rely on Uber Eats, DoorDash and other gig delivery services. Analysts blamed the layoffs on the  new $20 pay floor . But Pizza Hut  began working with those services  in 2022 – not to save money but because they couldn’t hire enough drivers. Other national pizza chains have already partnered with delivery companies.

Recognizing all of this, a different question emerges: How do we square the absence of negative employment effects with the theory that higher wages means fewer jobs?

The answer is power.

When employers have too much power in the labor market, they can (and do) pay workers considerably less. Workers take the low-paid jobs, often because they seem to be the best option available at the time. But those artificially low wages lead workers to quit when they find better-paying options – or when they’re just tired of working for such low wages.

As a result, hiring and maintaining staffing levels becomes more difficult for employers, leaving them with unfilled vacancies.

In recent years, fast food and other low-wage workers have reset the power equation. They have taken to the streets, city halls and state houses to demand better pay, and they have convinced politicians around the country to raise the minimum wage.

By raising pay to meet the higher minimums, fast food restaurants were better able to attract workers to fill the vacant jobs. And those workers stayed longer.

Lower employee turnover and fewer vacancies demonstrate how higher minimum wages can result in more jobs. Lower turnover also helps restaurant owners because more experienced workers will be more productive, while the owners save on recruitment and retention costs.

What about prices? Won’t fast-food customers pay a lot more because of the higher wages?

Pundits claim that a 25% increase in the minimum wage means a 25% increase in prices. Again, the real world provides a different answer.

We examined how minimum wage increases in California and New York changed McDonald’s prices. Every dollar increase in the minimum wage led McDonald’s to raise the price of a $5 Big Mac by just 12 cents.

Fast food companies are reporting higher sales  and bigger profits  than before the pandemic. They have absorbed higher wage costs and remained profitable without reducing fast food jobs.

Time and time again, research – and reality – show that raising fast-food workers’ pay in California will only lead to higher living standards for workers and a more equitable economy.
