15 of the Most Creative Writing Prompts from Reddit

Creative writing is a fantastic way to escape reality for a moment and let your imagination run wild. I find it difficult to know where to start with a fun story and that’s when I use a writing prompt to ignite my flow. There’s a writing prompt sub-group on Reddit where individuals from around the world can post a prompt or reply to one with a short story of their own. If you dream of being a published author someday, you might want to consider posting publically so that others can read your writing and provide feedback. It’s a good way to see resonates with people and test out your writing style.

If you’re more of a private creative, browse the prompts and respond to it in your private JRNL. (Remember, you can keep a separate journal for your creative writing vs. a daily journal for your day’s events.) The Reddit prompts are meant to inspire new writing and inspire they do! Occasionally one of them will capture my attention and before I know it, I’ll be sucked into reading all the short stories that go along with it. Here are a few that I enjoyed.

The 10 best writing subreddits for work, inspiration, and hiring, join the newsletter.

Get my latest content on business, marketing, and copywriting.

Looking for freelance writing gigs or inspiration to get past that pesky writer’s block?

You’re in the right place, my friend.

Today I’ll be sharing the best subreddits for writers which can be used to find work, inspiration, or receive feedback.

They’re also good for hiring if you’re in need of freelancers.

I’ve used many of these myself and browse them on a regular basis.

Heck, I landed heaps of clients through them back in my early days as a writer.

Let’s dive in!

1. /r/hireawriter

This, as you could guess, is a subreddit for hiring writers . People use it to advertise writing services or hire for their business.

The minimum rate is 5 cents/word and any jobs below that will be removed. This keeps a certain standard to the subreddit.

Users must use the [Hire Me] tag in their post tile or [Hiring] if they are looking to hire a writer.

hireawriter

Keep in mind this checklist they provide to follow the basic rules of the subreddit:

  • Always mention a pay rate whether you’re hiring or offering writing services.
  • Use the appropriate tag in the title.
  • Try to exceed 350 characters and provide as much context in your post.
  • Have some karma and age on your account. That means you should post and engage with other threats to build up your account.
  • Link to a portfolio if you’re a writer.

This is a very active subreddit, as well. There are a couple of dozen posts every day, so yours will probably get pushed down quickly. Make it a habit to post there regularly for this reason or you’ll get drowned out.

2. /r/writersforhire

Also known as /r/hireprowriters , this is a subreddit similar to the first in the sense it’s used for both hiring writers and finding work as a freelancer .

writersforhire

You can not ask for free work on this subreddit, however. The same applies to samples unless they are paid.

No work can be under 8 cents/word to make it beneficial for both parties, as well.

There’s also a strict rule for no academic help . If you want someone to write that chemistry paper, you’re out of luck!

Every post must include specific instructions regarding the project, time frame, wage, needed research, etc.

Contact information must also be given in the form of email, text, PM, etc.

No personal information is allowed either than what’s required to complete a job. Reddit is massive. You shouldn’t be posting personal information, anyway.

A portfolio is a must and the subreddit admins advise to always get a contract signed. It’s better to be safe than sorry, right?

Furthermore, they don’t allow those without experience to post. It’s for more established writers. Sorry newbies!

I thought this rule was hilarious, but they say “Don’t accept Bitcoin.” 😂

There’s roughly a new post per day so it’s not extremely active but still has consistency. Your post will remain on the front page for a while for this reason.

3. /r/writing

This is by far the biggest writing subreddit there is on Reddit itself.

It has over 1,00,000 subscribers and hundreds of users are active on it at any given time.

However, it’s not a place to look for work or hire.

It’s more for discussions and talking about topics that matter for writers.

writing subreddit

In fact, their welcome message is:

Welcome to the home for writers. We talk about important matters for writers, news affecting writers, and the finer aspects of the writing craft.

They are very strict about posting being related to writing . Anything even slightly related to outside topics will be removed. This includes threads about writing software, hardware, research questions, etc.

There are weekly critique and self-promotion threads you need to take advantage of, too. These help you get feedback to become a better writer while also promoting your work for increased reach.

If you’re interested in sharpening the ax that is writing, look no further. Keep an eye out for this subreddit and you’ll find it very helpful.

4. /r/writingprompt

Here’s a fun one.

This subreddit gives you a daily idea to get you started writing. It puts you on the spot and pushes your creative buttons.

A user will create a thread with the beginning of a story, A.K.A a prompt, and everyone else has to use it to continue the story.

writingprompt subreddit

It allows you to be creative and warm up your writing for the day.

People, as usual on Reddit, will be quick to give you feedback as well 😉

It looks something like this (Weird prompt, I know):

Writingprompt example

If you’re shy, write your response in a Google Doc or Notepad file so it isn’t public.

5. /r/wordcount

Let’s be real. Achieving a certain word count for projects or on a daily basis is a big deal for writers.

I find myself writing a few thousand words per day, for instance.

If you struggle to find it motivating to hit a specific word count, use this subreddit .

wordcount subreddit

It’s your place to brag about how many words you’ve written in a single day or week.

Writing a novel and need motivation? Post!

Trying to keep a winning streak? Post!

Other writers will motivate you along the way, as well.

It’s not a very active subreddit but it’s worth keeping in your toolbelt.

6. /r/selfpublish

Do you self publish books or have thought about starting?

Then you need to check out the self-publishing subreddit .

selfpublish subreddit

Their subreddit is advertised as:

A community for writers to discuss the process of self-publishing, share experiences in the “industry,” and read up on self-publishing news.

It’s a great resource for getting feedback on marketing self-published books, formatting, and other details that’ll excel in your authorship.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the weekly self-promotion thread, too. You can post your books and get free exposure .

7. /r/writermotivation

Some times you need a little push.

Because–as a writer–you know that writing is filled with obstacles and hoops you have to jump through.

It’s nice to get a boost of motivation while writing and hitting those humps to stay productive.

That’s where /r/WriterMotivation comes into the picture.

Writing motivation subreddit

Their subreddit description puts it beautifully:

No matter how well you write, there will be times when you have to find the motivation to write the amount you want.

Here you will find motivational tips, tricks, and images to kick writer’s block in the butt .

8. /r/forhire

This is not a subreddit dedicated to writing, but it’s incredible for finding writing-related work .

I used it to secure consistent writing clients back in the early days of my writing career.

You are able to post a self-promotional thread once per week detailing your services, rates, portfolio, and other required information.

forhire subreddit

Who doesn’t want leads showing up at their doorstep? (Or, more accurately, their inbox.)

It’s also very effective for hiring . I’ve used it to onboard great freelancers who help me with client work and different projects to this day.

Makes sure you follow all of the subreddits rules or you’ll get hit with the ban hammer.

9. /r/b2bforhire

This is another great subreddit for landing writing clients with a focus on B2B .

It moves very slowly, so your thread is guaranteed to remain the first page for a long time, giving you a steady amount of messages.

b2bforhire

If you write content or copy for B2B industries, bookmark this one and post on a weekly basis.

10. /r/jobbit

Looking for a full-time writing job or freelance work?

Check out this subreddit , then.

jobbit

It’s a great resource for posting jobs or landing gigs .

They allow for bids and resumes to be sent via the comment section, but many threads will have links to contact forms, email, etc.

You must also use [Hiring] or [For hire] tags appropriately like the other subreddits.

Wrapping up the best Reddit writing subreddits

Reddit is a great website. A little weird at times, but great overall.

It’s easily one of the best websites for writers , too.

You can use the various subreddits I laid out today to find work, inspiration, or hire writers if needed.

Ensure that you read the sidebar in every subreddit, so you follow all of their rules.

What’s your favorite subreddit for writers?

Creative Writing: 8 Fun Ways to Get Started

Creative writing is a written art form that uses the imagination to tell stories and compose essays, poetry, screenplays, novels, lyrics, and more. It can be defined in opposition to the dry and factual types of writing found in academic, technical, or journalistic texts.

Characterized by its ability to evoke emotion and engage readers, creative writing can tackle themes and ideas that one might struggle to discuss in cold, factual terms.

If you’re interested in the world of creative writing, we have eight fantastic exercises and activities to get you started.

1. Use writing prompts every week

Illustration of a writer getting ready for a creative writing contest

Coming up with ideas for short stories can be challenging, which is why we created a directory of 1700+ creative writing prompts covering a wide range of genres and topics. Writing prompts are flexible in nature, they are meant to inspire you without being too constrictive. Overall, they are a great way to keep your creative muscles limber.

Example of Reedsy's Creative Writing Prompts

If you’re struggling for motivation, how does a hard deadline and a little prize money sound? Prompts-based writing contests are a fantastic way to dive into creative writing: the combination of due dates, friendly rivalries, prize money, and the potential to have your work published is often just what’s needed to propel you over the finish line.

We run a weekly writing contest over on Reedsy Prompts, where hundreds of writers from all around the world challenge themselves weekly to write a short story between 1,000 and 3,000 words for a chance to win the $250 prize. Furthermore, the community is very active in providing constructive feedback, support, and accountability to each other 一 something that will make your efforts even more worthwhile.

Take a peek at our directory of writing contests which features some of the most prestigious open writing competitions in the world.

2. Start journaling your days

Illustration of a writer journaling in autumn

Another easy way to get started with creative writing is to keep a journal. We’re not talking about an hour-by-hour account of your day, but journaling as a way to express yourself without filters and find your ‘voice in writing’. If you’re unsure what to journal about, think of any daily experiences that have had an impact on you, such as…

Special moments . Did you lock yourself out of your house? Or did you catch a beautiful sunset on your way back from groceries? Capture those moments, and how you felt about them.

People . Did you have an unusual exchange with a stranger at the bar? Or did you reconnect with someone you haven’t seen in years? Share your thoughts about it.

World events . Is there something happening in the world right now that is triggering you? That’s understandable. You can reflect on it (and let some steam off) while journaling.

Memories . Did you go down memory lane after a glass of wine? Great, honor those memories by trying to recollect them in detail on paper so that they will always stay vivid in your mind.

Life decisions . Are you having an existential crisis about what to do with your life? Write down your thought process, and the pros and cons of the possible decisions in front of you. You’ll be surprised to discover that, not only is it a great creative writing exercise, but it can also actually help you sort your life out!

3. Create an anonymous social media account

Illustration of a writer thinking

Like anonymous blogging, an incognito Twitter account sidesteps the pressure that comes with attaching your name to your work. Anonymously putting tiny stories out into the ether gives you the freedom to create without worrying about the consequences — which is great, so long as you don’t use it as an opportunity to troll people or spread conspiracy theories.

You could use the anonymous account in different ways. For example, you could…

  • Tweet from unique points of view (e.g. a dog observing human behavior );
  • Create a parody account of real or fictional people (e.g. an English poet from the Middle Ages );
  • Challenge yourself to write tiny flash fiction stories that fit into Twitter threads.

Just remember, you’re not doing this to fool anyone into thinking that your account is real: be a good citizen and mark yourself a fiction account in your bio.

But if you’re not really a social media kinda person, you may enjoy our next tip, which is a bit more on the analog side.

4. Find an old photo and tell its story

Illustration of a photo-inspired journaling exercise

Find a random old photo — maybe on the web, maybe from a photo album in a yard sale — and see what catches your attention. Look closely at it and try to imagine the story behind it. What was happening? Who are the people in it and how are they really feeling? Do they share a relationship, and of what kind? What are their goals and dreams?

In other words, bring the photo to life with your imagination. Don't be afraid to take artistic license with your story, as the goal is to be creative and have fun while writing.

How do you know it’s creative writing?

5. Create a character from a random name

Illustration of a young poet and a warrior back to back

Just as our universe started from a few simple elements, you can create a character from a few basic information, like their name, culture, and gender. Reedsy’s handy character name generator can help you with that, offering random names based on archetypes, Medieval roots, fantasy traits and more. A few examples? A Celtic heroine named Fíona O'Keefe, a hero’s sidekick named Aderine, or a Korean track star named Park Kang-Dae.

Once you've chosen their name, begin to develop their personality. Set a timer for 5–10 minutes and write anything that comes to mind about them. It could be a page from their FBI dossier, a childhood diary entry, or simply a scene about them boiling an egg.

Just ‘go with the flow’ and don’t stop writing until your time is up. Repeat the process a few times to further hone the personality. If you like what you end up with, you can always go deeper later with our character profile template .

If a stream-of-consciousness exercise is not your thing, you can try to imagine your character in a specific situation and write down how’d they respond to it. For example, what if they were betrayed by a friend? Or if they were elected in power? To help you imagine situations to put your character in, we made a free template that you can download below.

6. Construct a character by people-watching

A writer observing a person and taking notes

People watching is “the action of spending time idly observing people in a public place.” In a non-creepy way, ideally. Sit on a bench on a public square or on a road-side table at your favorite café, and start observing the people around you. Pay attention to any interesting quirks or behaviors, and write it down. Then put on your detective’s hat and try to figure out what that tells you about them.

For example, the man at the table next to you at the restaurant is reading the newspaper. His jacket and hat are neatly arranged next to him. The pages make a whipping sound as he briskly turns them, and he grimaces every time he reads a new article. Try to imagine what he’s reading, and why he’s reacting the way he is. Then, try to build a character with the information you have. It’s a fun creative exercise that will also, hopefully, help you better empathize with strangers.

7. “Map” something you feel strongly about into a new context

Illustration of a young romance writer

Placing your feelings into new contexts can be a powerful creative writing exercise. The idea is to start from something you feel strongly about, and frame it into a completely different context.

For example, suppose your heart is torn apart after you divorce your life-long partner: instead of journaling or writing a novel about it, you could tell a story about a legendary trapeze duo whose partnership has come to an end. If you’re struggling with politicking and petty power dynamics at the office: what if you “mapped” your feelings onto an ant who resents being part of a colony? Directing your frustration at a queen ant can be a fun and cathartic writing experience (that won’t get you in trouble if your co-workers end up reading your story).

8. Capture the moment with a haiku

Illustration of a haiku poet inspired by the four seasons

Haikus are poems from the Japanese tradition that aim to capture, in a few words, daily moments of insight (usually inspired by nature). In a nutshell, it’s about becoming mindful of your surroundings, and notice if you can see something in a new or deeper way 一 then use contrasting imagery to express whatever you noticed.

Here’s an example:

Bright orange bicycle

Speeding through the autumn leaves

A burst of color waves

It may sound a bit complicated, but it shouldn’t be 一 at least not for the purpose of this exercise. Learn the basics of haiku-writing , then challenge yourself to write one per day for a week or month. At the end, you’ll be able to look back at your collection of poems and 一 in the worst case scenario 一 revisit small but significant moments that you would have otherwise forgot about.

Creative writing can be any writing you put your heart and soul into. It could be made for the purpose of expressing your feelings, exploring an idea, or simply entertaining your readers. As you can see there’s many paths to get involved with it, and hundreds of exercises you can use as a starting point. In the next post, we’ll look more in detail at some creative writing examples from some fellow authors.

Creative Writing MFA Alumni Spotlight: Francisco Aragón ('03)

Published: February 20, 2024

Author: Paul Cunningham

Francisco Aragon

"I was affiliated with [University of Notre Dame], but I wasn't teaching; I was a full-time arts administrator. I was able to cultivate more meaningful and substantive initiatives that led to a more national footprint. That was when I [and Letras Latinas] began to collaborate with the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Folger Shakespeare Library, the Poetry Society of America. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how crucial Letras Latinas' ties are with Notre Dame's Creative Writing program. We typically tap MFA students to introduce our visiting poets as well as conduct our oral history video interviews."   — Francisco Aragón, Poets & Writers

Francisco Aragon AWP

"Letras Latinas' mission is to amplify and support our storytellers-poets, playwrights, fiction writers, essayists. As long as our community is producing storytellers, and as long as we live in an environment in which communities are battling being erased—think about the political climate we're currently in in the U.S., with the attempted banning of library books by LGBTQ and Black voices—I don't envision the scenario where it's 'mission accomplished'" — Francisco Aragón, Poets & Writers

ChatGPT vs. Microsoft Copilot vs. Gemini: Which is the best AI chatbot?

maria-diaz

Artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed how we work and play  in recent months, giving almost anyone the ability to write code , create art , and even make investments .

Special Feature

The Rise of Generative AI

A new wave of AI tools has taken the world by storm and given us a vision for a new way of working and finding the information that can streamline our work and our lives. We show you the ways tools like ChatGPT and other generational AI software are making impacts on the world, how to harness their power, as well as potential risks.

For professional and hobbyist users alike, generative AI tools, such as  ChatGPT , offer advanced capabilities to create decent-quality content from a simple prompt given by the user.

Keeping up with all the latest AI tools can get confusing, especially as Microsoft added  GPT-4 to Bing  and renamed it to Copilot,  OpenAI added new capabilities to ChatGPT , and Bard got plugged into the Google ecosystem  and rebranded to Gemini.

Also: Microsoft Copilot Pro vs. OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus: Which is worth your $20 a month?

Knowing which of the three most popular AI chatbots is best to write code , generate text , or help build resumes is challenging, so we'll break down the biggest differences so you can choose one that fits your needs.

Testing ChatGPT vs. Microsoft Copilot vs. Gemini

To help determine which AI chatbot gives more accurate answers, I'm going to use a simple prompt to compare the three:

"I have 5 oranges today, I ate 3 oranges last week. How many oranges do I have left?"

The answer should be five, as the number of oranges I ate last week doesn't affect the number of oranges I have today, which is what we're asking the three bots. First up, ChatGPT.

You should use ChatGPT if...

 width=

1. You want to try the most popular AI chatbot

ChatGPT was created by OpenAI and released for a widespread preview in November 2022. Since then, the AI chatbot quickly gained over 100 million users, with the website alone seeing 1.8 billion visitors a month. It's been at the center of controversies , especially as people uncover its potential to do schoolwork and replace some workers.

 width=

The free version of ChatGPT, which runs on the default GPT-3.5 model, gave the wrong answer to our question.

I've been testing ChatGPT almost daily since its release. Its user interface has remained simple, but minor changes have improved it greatly, like the addition of a copy button, an edit option, Custom Instructions , and easy access to your account.

Also: How to use ChatGPT

Though ChatGPT has proven itself as a valuable AI tool, it can be prone to misinformation . Like other large language models (LLMs), GPT-3.5 is imperfect, as it is trained on human-created data up to January 2022. It also often fails to comprehend nuances, like it did with our math question example, which it answered incorrectly by saying we have two oranges left when it should be five.

2. You're willing to pay extra for an upgrade

OpenAI lets users access ChatGPT -- powered by the GPT-3.5 model -- for free with a registered account. But if you're willing to pay for the Plus version, you can access GPT-4 and many more features for $20 per month.

Also: How to write better ChatGPT prompts for the best generative AI results

GPT-4 is the largest LLM available for use when compared to all other AI chatbots and is trained with data up to April 2023 and can also access the internet, powered by Microsoft Bing. GPT-4 is said to have over 100 trillion parameters; GPT-3.5 has 175 billion parameters. More parameters essentially mean that the model is trained on more data, which makes it more likely to answer questions accurately and less prone to hallucinations.

 width=

ChatGPT Plus, which runs using the GPT-4 model, did answer the question correctly.

As an example, you can see the GPT-4 model, available through a ChatGPT Plus subscription , answered the math question correctly, as it understood the full context of the problem from beginning to end.

Also: I tried Microsoft Copilot's new AI image-generating feature, and it solves a real problem

Next up, let's consider Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing chat) , which is a great way to access GPT-4 for free, as it's integrated into its new Bing format.

You should use Microsoft Copilot if...

 width=

1. You want more up-to-date information

In contrast to the free version of ChatGPT, which is limited to being an AI tool that generates text in a conversational style with information leading up to early 2022, Copilot can access the internet to deliver more current information, complete with links for sources.

Also: How to use Copilot (formerly called Bing Chat)

There are other benefits, too. Copilot is powered by GPT-4, OpenAI's LLM, and it's completely free to use. Unfortunately, you are limited to five responses on a single conversation, and can only enter up to 2,000 characters in each prompt.

 width=

Copilot's Precise conversation style answered the question accurately, though other styles fumbled.

Copilot's user interface isn't as straightforward as that of ChatGPT, but it's easy to navigate. Though Bing Chat can access the internet to give you more up-to-date results compared to ChatGPT, I've found it is more prone to stall at replying and altogether miss prompts than its competitor.

2. You prefer more visual features

Through a series of upgrades to its platform, Microsoft added visual features to Copilot, formerly Bing Chat. At this point, you can ask Copilot questions like, 'What is a Tasmanian devil?' and get an information card in response, complete with photos, lifespan, diet, and more for a more scannable result that is easier to digest than a wall of text.

 width=

All about the Tasmanian devil on Microsoft Copilot.

When you use Copilot, you can also ask it to create an image for you. Give Copilot the description of what you want the image to look like, and have the chatbot generate four images for you to choose from.

Also: How to use Image Creator from Microsoft Designer (formerly Bing Image Creator)

Microsoft Copilot also features different conversational styles when you interact with the chatbot, including Creative, Balanced, and Precise, which alter how light or straightforward the interactions are.

 width=

Both the Balanced and Creative conversation styles in Microsoft Copilot answered my question inaccurately.

Finally, let's turn to Google's Gemini, formerly known as Bard, which uses a different LLM and has received some considerable upgrades in the past few months.

You should use Gemini if...

 width=

1. You want a fast, almost unlimited experience

In my time testing different AI chatbots, I saw  Google Bard catch a lot of flack for different shortcomings . While I'm not going to say they're unjustified, I will say that Google's AI chatbot, now named Gemini, has improved greatly, inside and out.

Also: How to use Gemini (formerly Google Bard): Everything you should know

Gemini is speedy with its answers, which have gotten more accurate over time. It's not faster than ChatGPT Plus, but it can be faster at giving responses than Copilot at times and faster than the free GPT-3.5 version of ChatGPT, though your mileage may vary.

 width=

Gemini answered accurately, like GPT-4 and Copilot's Precise conversation style.

The previous Bard used to make the same mistake as other bots on my example math problem, by incorrectly using the 5 - 3 = 2 formula, but Gemini, powered by Google's new Gemini Pro, the company's largest and latest LLM. Now, Gemini answers the question accurately.

Also: Apple's new AI model edits photos according to text prompts from users

Gemini is also not limited to a set amount of responses like Microsoft Copilot is. You can have long conversations with Google's Gemini, but Bing is limited to 30 replies in one conversation. Even ChatGPT Plus limits users to 40 messages every three hours.

2. You want the full Google experience

 width=

Google also incorporated more visual elements into its Gemini platform than those currently available on Copilot. Users can also use Gemini to generate images, can upload photos through an integration with Google Lens , and enjoy Kayak, OpenTable, Instacart, and Wolfram Alpha plugins.

Also: 6 AI tools to supercharge your work and everyday life

But Gemini is slowly becoming a full Google experience thanks to Extensions folding the wide range of Google applications into Gemini. Gemini users can add extensions for Google Workspace, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Flights, and Google Hotels, giving them a more personalized and extensive experience.

Reddit reportedly signs $60million annual deal with AI company

Reddit logo displayed on phone

Reddit is allowing access to an “unnamed” artificial intelligence (AI) company ahead of the social platform’s initial public offering (IPO).

The deal, reported by Bloomberg is worth “about $60 million on an annualized basis” for AI models to be given access to Reddit’s material.

The move to allow an AI company into the nuts and bolts of content could be seen as a way to hook in more investors ahead of the platform making moves to enter the public trading domain, as we reported last month .

Bloomberg’s insider has said the “San Francisco-based firm told prospective investors in its IPO that it had signed the deal, worth about $60 million on an annualized basis, earlier this year.”

The move is an example of how important content licensing is becoming to AI companies that use source material to essentially feed the algorithms that create their outputs.

Due to several high-profile  arguments about the validity of source materials of AI’s outputs, more and more companies are seeking official partnerships with registered businesses that AI algorithms hope to provide expertise on.

What is happening with Reddit’s IPO?

Steve Huffman, the Reddit CEO spoke about the possibility of an IPO late last year and mentioned that people attempting to use the platform to launch businesses could be a core part of the need to expand.

“People are trying to start businesses on Reddit, but it wasn’t built for that,” said Huffman to Fast Company in an interview last year, “So just trying to flesh out that ecosystem, I think that’ll be very powerful.”

Bloomberg has reported that 16 banks are involved in the Reddit IPO that is led by Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs Group Inc and also include “JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp. and Citigroup Inc.”

An IPO is the process of offering shares of a private corporation to the public after the company meets the requirements of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This is where the phrase “going public” originates from.

This stage of a company’s life cycle is where the early investors and shareholders agree that more money is needed to expand. So they lean on the expertise of banking institutions to take the share prices of a company into the public domain and the competitive seas of the stock market.

It helps these companies get better exposure and deals with loans and investments, but this also comes with increased transparency into accounting that must be disclosed publicly.
